It isn't working because it only launches sand when it's falling - it launches entities, to be exact, so ANY falling blocks. For example, if you could setup falling netherite blocks with no gravity, you could have something like a shrapnel So, for example, do super slow tick speed, do a big cube on slabs, light TNT, break all slabs in the right moment and you have it
That final bit with the TNT gave me an idea for a minigame. Everyone has a fishing rod, and all the players start next to the TNT. It's lit, and the goal is to get away; but between fishing rods to pull people back and punching them, you have means of keeping others near it. The goal would be to get others blown up without dying yourself. Could be done elimination style, tournament style, or points based on rounds survived.

You should add hitstun to Minecraft using the tick command and see how it affects how it FEELS... to play Minecraft. ( Hitstun is where the game has a very very brief pause when the player hits something, adding impact. In most games with hitstun, the amount of time of the stun is longer for harder hits ;D )

Make superhot in minecraft!! Its fast when you're moving but the second you stop, time also stops so you could have some epic battles with skeletons straight outta the matrix
for the sand explosion thing you could use light blue concrete powder for a shower!!! you can also use other concrete powder for other colors of "sand"
only one thing i didnt see was having like super speed in slow motion, like take swiftness potion but use command to make it the max lv and then slow the tick, see how fast it really is

knarfsauce is canon so for that, ill do some smart stuff i guess Minecraft runs 20 ticks in a second, so 2 ticks is a 10th of a real life second. So at 2 ticks per second it would take 10 real life seconds to run 1 ingame second. and since a full day in minecraft is 20 minutes, we could do more math. 20 minutes is 1200 seconds, 1200 * 10 = 12000. A full minecraft day at 2 tps would take 12000 seconds

when i tested the sand getting launched thing it was on bedrock which might have changed the mechanics of it.

For the first one you could download a realistic block explosion
To make the sand canon you have to make the sand an entity with water and soul sand then explode it
Some mods would be amazing with this, especially horror mods, like from the fog or cave dweller or man from the fog
