Beautiful Art Nouveau interior following the end of the Gilded Age! How I wish there were more hotels and buildings that survived this spectacular point in time.
Agreed. NYC had many most of which are gone. The Biltmore, Astor, McAlpin (stripped) Drake, Ambassador, Pennsylvania, Belmont - all gone. Fortunately most from that same era have survived in Europe.
For several years in the 1950's we would live at the St. Regis for several months each year. My parents were concerned so I was told to say I lived in a boarding house.....One of our neighbors was Salvador Dali who met my sister when she kicked him in the shins in the very small elevator. For whatever reason this endeared her to him ; A sketch of her hangs, i believe, in a museum in Florida. To this day I still stop there when in New York not only for the memories but because it is the best place to stay in New York.

Love the St Regis. I lived across 5th Avenue at the Peninsula... which has a nice bar n great pool area high up.... missus lives right near the Carlyle, Mark etc. Love Bemelmanns Bar at the Mark but I agree the St Regis is A+
If you havent been in Munich, Germany I recommend Bayerischer hof and Mandarin Oriental Hotel München. Make sure to dine at three - michelin - restaurant Atelier at Bayerischer hof, where Innegrit Volkhardt general Manager will welcome you in the most posh city in Germany.

That Maxfield Parrish is (rightly) insured for $60 million, but there is no true comp on the market and never will be - not unless they tear down the St Regis, or someone makes a real-life “Oceans 18” movie.

Thank you Christophe. I always wanted to step in that hotel for a peek around. Welcome to NYC.
The only place we stay in NYC! The best there is and classic old school!
Christophe Choo I heard that the peninsula and Waldorf Astoria are also very upscale
Christophe Choo oh I just remember you are the luxury realtor in Los Angeles right? You only sell like 25 million dollar homes
Peninsula rooms are teeny tiny.....

The bar is merely the King Cole Bar not the "Nat" King Cole Bar.
Awesome. Very opulent.

It’s the ‘Old King Cole Bar’...not the Nat King Cole Bar. The name is right on the mural behind the bar!
I heard that, too - Nat King Cole. ahah ha. But many people would make that error
It’s not the Nat King Cole bar- it’s the King Cole Bar as per the painting of Ole king Cole - who was a merry ole sole ,,,,,,
...for your edification the correct name of the bar is the KING COLE BAR, Nat has no bearing on the name...)
What did I call it the Nat King Cole bar lol? I always stay there but never remember the name of the bar 😂 lol.
@@Christophechoo that's cool, just thought you'd like to know...)

It is an amazing work of art and I love sitting at the bar admiring it!
