Not sure I'm absolutely in love with the music itself (not a huge fan of that "messy" backing electric guitar), but I really like this mashup as a commentary on each song individually, if I can put on my pretentious liberal arts major hat for a second. The Score's music tends to be... superficial, for lack of a better word? There's a lot of language reminiscent of, say, famous revolutionary speeches, or sort of generically uplifting anthems--not that there's no substance, but that the listener is expected to supply the context and so the lyrics are vague enough to apply to a conveniently broad scenario or set of scenarios. It's the sort of music that can be played over a fanvid of hundreds of clips of fight scenes and still make sense. It's catchy as hell but it's more... vehicle than driver, if that makes sense.
Grandson's music is angry in a very specific way, focused on climate change, on environmental disaster, on wealth inequality and the ultra-rich 1%, in a way that **doesn't** generalize to a lot of other scenarios, but it's also rather defeatist. The point is the betrayal, the point is the injury that's been done, the point is highlighting that and saying, this is wrong, this should not be happening. Which is definitely true, but it also doesn't leave any room for fixing any of it. It is a direct message to the people setting the world on fire that they will burn too, even if we have to douse them in gasoline ourselves.
So on their own we have a rebel without a cause and a cause without a rebellion, but together the songs directly compliment and support each other's "theses," if you will. It's all the justified anger of a generation inheriting the ruins of their ancestors' greed, with the determination and belief that we can still fix it, or at the very least salvage **something**. It's hope with bared teeth: the fight, and something worth fighting for.
would you say that your ability to pick apart a song's components and evaluate them individually rather than as a sum of parts has hampered your ability to enjoy music?

I actually really like this interpretation, and may explain a lot of the appeal of the music. I personally do quite it like this piece musically as well, but from a commentary perspective it definitely expands the meaning of I think both pieces.
