Anyone else take all the materials the freighters have when comparing them? In the compare menu when your current freighter is next to the one youre looking at, you can click on their materials (usually iron, gold, and platinum) and itll transfer to your freighter lol not much but hey its free.
(Disclaimer: I am new to NMS and found this last nite, so apologies if you already know about it) If you jump into a system and the freighter battle starts, go back to your last save. Then u know u are 1 jump away from triggering the battle. If you are after a specific capital ship or freighter and have a base already set up next to a monolith portal you can take the portal to the system where the capital ship spawns. Once you reach the target system I would chuck down another save here for speed. Next hyperdrive to a red star system nearby that does NOT have a space station (you'll need the hyperdrive technology upgrade for this on your ship). The freighter battle will not trigger in this system as there is no space station in the system. Then hyperdrive back to the previous system you were in (where the capital ship u need spawns) and the battle should start. Rinse and repeat from your save until u get the capital ship as an S class! It takes a lot of set up, but works!
For anyone who wants the freighter they found but want it in another class, you DO want to create a restore point at the space station, that way you can go to the freighter - Scan for class - Reload restore - fly back - hope for S class.
FYI - In PC VR landing on a pad (the landing areas that makes your ship rotate) requires you exit the ship and reenter to lift off. I can only confirm this for Normal and Survivor. So keep that in mind while doing this. I am not sure if this happens PSVR.
It's kinda hard to actually shoot the freighters, unless you hit a cargo pod it won't damage the ship unless the shield is destroyed, and if you stay on the outside of the shield you have no issues..
Came back after 5 years not playing and found a nice class S freighter with a 1,965ly hyperdrive.. After upgrading it. I'm playing creative & didn't have to fight pirates to get it, I played 3 hours and warped 3 or 4 times. My advice to guarentee a class S freighter is to jump to geck pirate systems with pirate stations. Thanks Jason!
I finally got mine today for FREE. I watched another video that said to take the "reward " for the first freighter you save then this even will happen a second time after another 5 jumps and it will be a capital ship. If you B line it for the space station and save every time you reload the enemies are no longer there and you can just try to go in the freighter, scan and then reload if needed. Took me 98 NINETY EIGHT reloads to get my S Class Capital ship. I saw 19 A Class ships, 42, B class ships and 36 C Class ships in that time and it took me just under 2 hours.
The warp count is definitely a bit janky. The 3 hours is 100% in my opinion. But I’ve occasionally had one pop in for me say after 4 warps. All I can assume is that after the 3 hour play time mark, the “warp counter starts to count down. “ meaning hypothetically if you play for 6 hours and don’t warp any, maybe it takes only 3-4 warps
I could be wrong, but I think the warp counter starts when you start playing, and then the battle will trigger only if after you've played for 3 hrs and warped at least 5 times in that playing session. So if you've warped 2 times before 3 hours, then you need only 3 more to get that 5 warp min. Likewise, if you've already warped 5 times within that first 3 hours, then your next warp after 3 hours should be the battle. My theory at least. Second theory is the warp count is a random between like 2 and 5 or something. So after 3 hours of playing, the RNG for warp count kicks in.
A few tips to save you some time: 1. You don’t have to fight the pirates at all. (EDIT: They fixed this part now.) When you get in the system ignore the pirates, go to the freighter in the front of the group that is under attack, and just fly into the blue hangar area. Battle is over. If you like the ship and the class, go ahead and claim it. If you don’t like the class, don’t claim or take the reward, just leave and go do an auto save at the station and reload. Then keep going back to the freighter and checking the class. It will say you are buying it, but it will still be free. 👍🏻 2. If you wait until your 10th warp instead of your 5th, you will be guaranteed a capital class freighter. Not S class, but the capital style of freighters. 👍🏻 Edit: Finish the freighter battle on the 5th warp, but don’t accept the freighter, just get the reward instead. Now when you do your 10th warp, the freighter will still be free.
I believe he means that you should not accept the first freighter you get, the one you get the first time you do your 5th warp. The first freighter will always be a system freighter, so it is best to receive a reward (manures, gold, etc) instead. Then, all subsequent freighter battles will feature a Capital ship, and you will still be able to claim one for free.
@@takewithfood Yes, sorry guys. You finish the freighter battle on the 5th warp, or you simply enter the freighter instead of fighting, which ends the battle. Then you need to play 3 more hour of game time and on your 10th warp you are guaranteed a capital ship. Sorry I wasn’t super clear.
Also, I believe they fixed the hanger thing. I got my first freighter without having fought any pirates by flying into the hanger, but now I'm going for an s class and I tried to do it again, but they are sealed up until the fight is over. That could be a patch only for vr, but I don't know
Main takeaway I got from this video: "go to space station if you accidentally shoot the fleet". I'm definitely glad I watched this whole video because I was about to leave. I've seen several videos like this but never heard about the space station thing
I was actually able to pick up my S class after warping into a wealthy system and just checking the freighters that randomly spawn in. No battle or anything, landed on one and it was an S class. You may get lucky like that also.
Doesn’t work for me i finaly find the battle and then i reload autosave and go to another system because i didnt like the freighter and it doesn’t spawn the battle and yea it sucks reeeeeeeeeeaally bad
The rng in this game is ridiculous farmed it for 6 hours in a 3 star booming system. Had to get off cause it is so late rn. Made a manual save before getting off to hopefully be able to pick it back up later on. At the same time though why can't we use nanites to upgrade class like any other item. Makes no sense why you can't turn an a class into an s class.... this venture was soul crushing. Great video and info though. Hopefully everyone else having better luck than me.
Thank you jason, im starting the grind now, I'll update when i get my star destroyer, i didn't know this was in the game and im a star wars fan so i have to get it
Crazy last night I got into a battle and on the first run it was an S class sentinel battleship only 3 slots in length I went ahead and traded my A class Dreadnaught for it because hell it was an S class even though smaller in size it was fully decked out. I upgraded the storage to max on both storage and tech and I am good the total worth of my new freighter is now 600,000,000.00 600 million . I have to say it's the most expensive so in the future if I did trade it I don't have to worry about ever needing cash to cover lol.
1. I've heard that you can claim your first freighter for free and if you decide not to take it you can take the 2nd and it is always better class than the 1st one.
I just started playing no man's sky and I recently got a freighter and it just so happens to be S class (first try). I came here on RUclips searching for a video guide on using freighters since it's my first playthrough and it all looks so confusing and I stumbled upon this video. Now seeing how difficult it is to get S class I feel so lucky 😄.
If you find the design and style you like, go straight to the space station and create the autosave. You will always have the battle ready when you leave it. So if you dont like the class of it just reload and leave the station and do the battle again. Rince and repeat until you get the class you want. It's a lot quicker and easier than having to relocate the system again.
@@luc2o agreed, I haven't been able to get this save method to work. I'll land and save then finish a fight. Reload and combat is done, no freighter offer. Three different saves I've tried and it's been the same.
Someone mentioned that you have to save before entering combat, maybe that's what I was doing wrong. I'd head straight to the station but perhaps I was getting flagged for combat before hand from being close to a freighter battle.
I finally did it! Got the big boy black and red striped Venator for FREE as my FIRST EVER freighter in NMS BUT, after a 10+hours reloading, I learned you CANNOT have a Capitol ship spawn as the first ship. So if you want an S class capital ship, DECLINE THE FIRST, wait 3+ hours, make your 10th jump to the 3 star system with the freighter you want. After 10+ hours, I could only ever get the most basic of cargo freighters to spawn and only B and C class in 3 star systems. Seems HG don't want you to get an S class roll on the first one.
@@dukecunning7046 since this is my first time playing the game, I don't know for sure, but I assume you can, due to the Galaxy controlling what type of freight spawns. Every time you visit, it SHOULD be the same freighter, with the only variable being class.
I've heard you always get a freighter battle on the 5th jump .. it did not happen , I ended up buying a freighter , played at least 4 hours jumped 5 times first day I owned the game 4/20 (it was half price) , been playing since , love the game make lots of units and nanites because I do what you guys tell me work and it dose couple mil. units an hour no prob , more nanites than I know what to spend them on , but the freighter thing never worked for me , oh well , thanks for all the awesome vids and advice its worked wonders , so long and thanks for all the fish , oh and liked of course
Does this method still work after the Waypoint update? The save puck is gone now, and exiting the starship OR saving from a Save Beacon are both treated as a manual save. So I think if we land in the freighter bay and exit the ship, we can't reload to before the jump anymore.
I played for a few hours tonight like he mentioned. Not liking my chances so far haha does that really work? Saving it at the space station and it refreshing it would save time lol
..........I have a dumb question -------- I have an A class Dreadnaught - and I have a lot of stuff being grown in there: gravatino balls, nip nip buds, and other stuff; not to mention, storing a lot of stuff I've collected....if I ever come across an S class freighter and trade my A in for an S, will it delete all of that stuff I've been farming on my A class?
Nope, all the base/room stuffs you built in the old Freighter will magically teleport to the new one right away. BUT you need to move your inventory from the old one to the new one (when select Compare you can just click on each item you want to move, just make sure before you click Exchange)
I got a S-Class on boot up of my game, didn't need 3 hour game play. Didn't need a battle to save a freighter, when you go to a new system warp or teleport to station or base. When you see a fleet in space at least 1 will allow you to board, then scan the deck once aboard and see it's class.
Have to add, the shit looks terrible and it was after 3 days of warping around, but it was the first warp of that game session if found it. Testing now to see if I have another way to get an s class with out having a battle to fight.
Yep. Ok. So you don't need space battle, I have a base in a well off system, teleported there and zipped up to space. There was 1 fleet and another warped in. So I had 2 choices, as 1 always allows boarding. First hour game play C and B class ships, teleported away through said base waited for over an hour game play, went back to that system same fleet in space same one warped in. Both were now A class. Went back out of system waited 20 minutes went back to that system first one was S class. Bought it and now have a better looking S-class Frighter.
I finally found my dream freighter. I would look and get distracted/discouraged rocked a class for all most two yeas before the game game me a s class that I wanted. By then my a class was so decked out I almost didn't want to swap but knew the upgrade was worth it in long run :]
i got an s class freighter for free on my first try at a two star system and it had 4 supercharged slots. 3 together and 1 to the right. thx for your help
Question wouldn't be it be easier just to reload the system and keep going into the freighter without the fights then reloading that?when you find the one you like?idk new player
A tip would be that you can tell which class the freighter is by looking at how many segment it has. That way you dont have to beat the pirate and waste time, thats what i did for my s class.
A new guide is needed, which YTer will be first with the new guide? Since Endurance, if you land on the station, the battle ceases and will not restart, if you make a save in the battle system and fly back, the battle is over and your chance is gone It seems the only way now is to reset back to your pre-warp save point, or to fly in to an uninhabited system (like a red, green or blue one) and save there But since Endurance or possibly before(?) It is possible to claim your freighter from a random battle that beings once youre flying around the system - the "rescue a distressed freighter" mission. So as i say new guide needed I bet Xaine is already working on it, will you beat him to it? :)
The battle does not matter, you can reload your save, just fly back into the freighter and the options will be "claim" ship. No need for a new guide. Trust me I just did my reload 98 times in a row, no pirates, no fighting just me flying to the freighter as fast as possible, scanning and reloading.
Love your videos Jason they’re so helpful been playing nms since day 1 but honestly waiting for the switch release in august to continue playing just for the portability factor 😁❤️
Might be a silly question i may have fucked up and just took what ever freighter popped up is there another way to farm for s class freighters without using the guaranteed one?m
Can some explain when he says you have to play for 3 hours does that mean you have to actually have been on for 3 hours straight or just have 3 hours in the game?
I disabled and then took over an S-class pirate capital ship last week during one of the Post warp civilian protection conflicts. Is that a decent s class?
Is the 3 hours of playtime referring to after you launch the game and load the save? And how active do you need to be during those 3 hours for it to count
play 3 hrs straight, then 4 system jumps and SAVE in station, then jump into any contested system? If I don't like ship, I reload autosave at the 4th jump and continue just doing 1 jump, and rinse repeat? that it ?
Question: with the endurance update, if you swap freighters will it still have the same base inside that you have built or does it reset and you have to build again
Yep, I'm not too worried about getting an S-class either. The A does the trick. It takes work to grind out more storage slots! I still haven't bothered getting them all, since the 9 storage contrainers hold all my stuff!
What hurts me is that I followed these instructions (albeit not on purpose. I was trying to find some exosuit upgrades), I found the VERY same ship as the one in the thumbnail, S-class and everything. But since I was just 10k units away from a purchase, and since I wasn't planning on buying a freighter, I had nothing to trade with on the station, and I had to let the damn ship go. Complete bs :(
So, of I do pick a freighter and buy it, can I continue to look for another freighter without the 3 hours and 5 warps? Or once it is saved with the new freighter I just bought that resets the cycle e, and I have to do 3 more hours and 5 warps? again
Love ya Jason, but I still hope we're getting a freighter update soon making this obsolete. I've done this grind too many times now and would rather have a system like we have for multitools and starships.
They've added so much to this game, but still have so much they could add. Like allowing us to have multiple freighters like the AI does, allowing us to expand our ship inventory space, or maybe just adding 6 more slots for each freighter your own. Also they need to be better about fixing glitches like the dup glitch so many people use it and ruins a lot of the game
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 I just happened to come across this while reviewing other stuff, it baffles me how hit or miss youtube notifications are... I agree with almost everything, but the swag tho
Anyone else take all the materials the freighters have when comparing them? In the compare menu when your current freighter is next to the one youre looking at, you can click on their materials (usually iron, gold, and platinum) and itll transfer to your freighter lol not much but hey its free.
(Disclaimer: I am new to NMS and found this last nite, so apologies if you already know about it)
If you jump into a system and the freighter battle starts, go back to your last save.
You can scan for the class? I always thought you had to beat the pirates to be able to board it to find out.
@@davidhuynh2560 same here, I had to wait 5 hours to try again
Great video, thanks very much!
Followed your excellent advice. Now got an S Class Resurgent after around 12 reloads. Well happy.
FYI - In PC VR landing on a pad (the landing areas that makes your ship rotate) requires you exit the ship and reenter to lift off. I can only confirm this for Normal and Survivor. So keep that in mind while doing this. I am not sure if this happens PSVR.
@Jason just to add to this, I believe the Pirate systems have an increased chance of S-Class over a 3-star economy system
You don't need to land in the space station to clear your heat. Just finish killing the pirates, and you'll still get the reward prompt.
I believe Outlaw/Pirate systems have the highest change to spawn an S class.
Really? I’ll try it out
@@lemonpie9633 how’d it go
Goes to show how dedicated this legend is, he just happily stumbles across a wave exotic and just brushes it of😮😂
I finally got mine today for FREE.
I totally agree. It never happens before 3 hours but warping is a little iffy. For this one I had to warp 3 times, but it can take up to 5 sometimes.
A few tips to save you some time:
2. If you wait until your 10th warp instead of your 5th, you will be guaranteed a capital class freighter. Not S class, but the capital style of freighters. 👍🏻
Edit: Finish the freighter battle on the 5th warp, but don’t accept the freighter, just get the reward instead. Now when you do your 10th warp, the freighter will still be free.
What do you mean wait until your 10th warp? If the event spawns on the fifth warp? Do you just not engage the event and keep warping?
Point 2. Doesn't work for me
I believe he means that you should not accept the first freighter you get, the one you get the first time you do your 5th warp.
Problem with Sentinel Freighters
I keep crashing into that antenna cluster when I take off....
For all my NMS needs, your channel always delivers
Finally got the S-class after 432 attempts.
what is that ship you use?
I was actually able to pick up my S class after warping into a wealthy system and just checking the freighters that randomly spawn in. No battle or anything, landed on one and it was an S class. You may get lucky like that also.
Was it a super capital? I think you only get those from thr missions
Found mine on first try too. I thought its normal
Tysm this has helped a lot. Keep up the good work, i love ur vids😊
Hopefully everyone else having better luck than me.
where did you find that ship your flying?
Do i have to continuously play 3 hours or can i play for 1 hour then quit and come back and play for 2 more hours (excluding the time i spend in menu)
I did that 60 times last night in a wealthy system and never an S Class. I gave up, I'll try it again later.
@@luc2o 61 was the one.
@@mmack66 it probably was , I just keep my eyes open
@@luc2o agreed, I haven't been able to get this save method to work. I'll land and save then finish a fight. Reload and combat is done, no freighter offer. Three different saves I've tried and it's been the same.
Someone mentioned that you have to save before entering combat, maybe that's what I was doing wrong. I'd head straight to the station but perhaps I was getting flagged for combat before hand from being close to a freighter battle.
I finally did it! Got the big boy black and red striped Venator for FREE as my FIRST EVER freighter in NMS
BUT, after a 10+hours reloading, I learned you CANNOT have a Capitol ship spawn as the first ship.
Does this work even if the you have already visited the system with the freighter you want?
One problem with this video, at 7:08, if you are playing PSVR, you have to get out of the ship to take off again.
Does this method still work after the Waypoint update? The save puck is gone now, and exiting the starship OR saving from a Save Beacon are both treated as a manual save. So I think if we land in the freighter bay and exit the ship, we can't reload to before the jump anymore.
Worked for me today.
cheers! reinstalled after 2 years n it's about time i upgrade my a-class freight to an s-class.
Once you've found the ship you like, auto save in the space station. Then every time you reload, it shuffles the class.
I played for a few hours tonight like he mentioned. Not liking my chances so far haha does that really work? Saving it at the space station and it refreshing it would save time lol
@stevenflaton2693 Yeah it works. At least it did at the time. Updates may have changed it.
@@rider3859 unfortunately it doesn’t work ;/ but, today I found a dreadnought and did 8 fights and I got an S class ☺️
..........I have a dumb question -------- I have an A class Dreadnaught - and I have a lot of stuff being grown in there: gravatino balls, nip nip buds, and other stuff; not to mention, storing a lot of stuff I've collected....if I ever come across an S class freighter and trade my A in for an S, will it delete all of that stuff I've been farming on my A class?
Nope, all the base/room stuffs you built in the old Freighter will magically teleport to the new one right away.
BUT you need to move your inventory from the old one to the new one (when select Compare you can just click on each item you want to move, just make sure before you click Exchange)
@@ThunderWolfOmega thanks that was very helpful! Cheers
Do you have a video for the coordinates for the solar ship used in the guide? that's pretty close to the exact one I want!
i got an s class freighter for free on my first try at a two star system and it had 4 supercharged slots. 3 together and 1 to the right. thx for your help
I wish you had gotten the glyphs for that red exotic :D
Best explanation yet! I finally understand how to get one thankyou!
I like that aliens awesome head, it's brain swirls like a atomic symbol.
It's got lights around its head too.
Question wouldn't be it be easier just to reload the system and keep going into the freighter without the fights then reloading that?when you find the one you like?idk new player
Great tipp!!!
First attempt found my arrowhead s-tier capital freighter. Now building up my base...👍️🤗
I findly got one !! Took like 200 reloads but I finally got S Class freighter.! Looks like the one in the thumbnail but bigger.
NMS version of Ground Hog Day. Thanks Jason, learning tons from your videos...
A tip would be that you can tell which class the freighter is by looking at how many segment it has. That way you dont have to beat the pirate and waste time, thats what i did for my s class.
wtf how have i never noticed that. Mind blown
A new guide is needed, which YTer will be first with the new guide?
Since Endurance, if you land on the station, the battle ceases and will not restart, if you make a save in the battle system and fly back, the battle is over and your chance is gone
It seems the only way now is to reset back to your pre-warp save point, or to fly in to an uninhabited system (like a red, green or blue one) and save there
But since Endurance or possibly before(?) It is possible to claim your freighter from a random battle that beings once youre flying around the system - the "rescue a distressed freighter" mission.
So as i say new guide needed
I bet Xaine is already working on it, will you beat him to it? :)
The battle does not matter, you can reload your save, just fly back into the freighter and the options will be "claim" ship. No need for a new guide. Trust me I just did my reload 98 times in a row, no pirates, no fighting just me flying to the freighter as fast as possible, scanning and reloading.
I got lucky. The 2nd freighter I saved on the latest expedition save was an S-Class. I'm making that my main save for sure.
I would too!😂😂
Hey jason do you know how to get different mining tools
Doesn´t work for me. As soon i reload i appear in the space, not in the station.
Ah man! You are the best! You help and entertain at the same time. You are the first NMS RUclipsr whos videos want to watch until the end! 😀
Love your videos Jason they’re so helpful been playing nms since day 1 but honestly waiting for the switch release in august to continue playing just for the portability factor 😁❤️

where'd you find that red solar ship? looks nice!
Might be a silly question i may have fucked up and just took what ever freighter popped up is there another way to farm for s class freighters without using the guaranteed one?m
Do you have to be playing that save for 3 hours or just the game in general
Can some explain when he says you have to play for 3 hours does that mean you have to actually have been on for 3 hours straight or just have 3 hours in the game?
"3 Hours straight" I assume you could just chill at a space station for 3 hours if you're bored or something.
I disabled and then took over an S-class pirate capital ship last week during one of the Post warp civilian protection conflicts. Is that a decent s class?
Do you actually have to wait 3 hours or can you time skip like with the settlements?
Is the 3 hours of playtime referring to after you launch the game and load the save? And how active do you need to be during those 3 hours for it to count
play 3 hrs straight, then 4 system jumps and SAVE in station, then jump into any contested system? If I don't like ship, I reload autosave at the 4th jump and continue just doing 1 jump, and rinse repeat? that it ?
Question: with the endurance update, if you swap freighters will it still have the same base inside that you have built or does it reset and you have to build again
They ask you if you want to bring your base over when you get a new freighter
@@zookaloogie7953 and do you keep all your stuff in your storage rooms
Very helpful. Thank you kindly.
Over 200 hours played and i still have A class Freighter 😀
Yep, I'm not too worried about getting an S-class either. The A does the trick. It takes work to grind out more storage slots! I still haven't bothered getting them all, since the 9 storage contrainers hold all my stuff!
Yeah me too I’m in the same boat , I’ll eventually get it an S class !
With all the ways to manage inventory, especially after getting cargo slots on our spaceships, A-Class works just fine for me too.
Anyway, if you still "need" that much inventory space, you might want to take a look at what you're holding on to. I struggle to use half of what's available at this point.
So I’m assuming before switching you should remove all your upgrades from your old freighter first right
the play fo9r 3 hours thing is not correct. i've now several times had tyhe scene trigger when i first jump after loading a save game.
I created a save point at the space station during the pirate space battle and then loaded restore point. Didn't get battle again upon reloading.
Do some specific freighters help you in battle?
any point in those? they dont hoot even when you bring enermies close they don't fight others they just have the guns for looks
I came across a freighter battle yesterday after 3 jumps and less than 1 hour of gameplay. Maybe they've changed something with 4.0?
Hopefully this still works to this day because I’m playing no man sky for the first time after seven years. I don’t want to mess up my first choice.
Do you have to have been playing for three that play session or that save file?
You can do this even if you already own a freighter right?
Good video J man
once you find the style of freighter you want, how do you remember which system it was and find it again on the galaxy map?
great vid, i didn`t do the battle for one, so had to put the freighter is always mod in your first system when u get there, finally after 2 days i found 1 , not the tiny ones , the big fat one, i was like omg, as i was almost done searching, then landed at the space station and saved and was looking for a s one, took a while and bought 1 S Class
Don't forget if you compare freighters check the cargo, you can take the stuff they have without having to buy it.
