    I don't know why, but I could watch B-52's all day. There's just something so majestic and bad ass about them, plus the fact they've lasted so long. When I was a kid I got that Monogram 1/72 model kit of the B-52, and have been in love ever since.

    • @trigger9779
      @trigger9779 3 месяца назад +2

      Agreed. I think what makes them most majestic is the fact that something that big and heavy should not be flying at 40000+ feet. Just crazy

    Watching this video, all I could think was, “man, that’s a clean BUFF!” A lot of troops put a lot work into that, and they should be proud.

    My father flew these after B36s were pulled. At one base, they deployed parachutes from the back on landing to slow them down on shorter runways. When either plane took off the noise was deafening and the ground shook.

Also, their aspect would be terrifying if you were on the receiving end, especially coming toward you, yet on the ground there's something oddly innocent about their noses and the look of their windows! 😄😄

    1968 coming from R&R we stopped in Guam to refuel and we were told to go to the end of the runway a flight is taking off shortly.
    We watched as the B52 was loaded with bombs in the bay plus under the wings I believe the held 113 bombs, as they were taking off they used every inch off the runway, the wings were like flapping from the weight of the bombs, and all of a sudden we heard a flap noise and it went airborne
    We had arc lites almost every night on the DMZ but this was my first close up for me to see them. Each wing tip had wheels attached to compensate for the wing stress.

    • @Apoindeed
      @Apoindeed 6 лет назад +4

      The Bomb bay is in the middle and its pretty long, which prevents the landing gear to be placed in the „usual“ center of gravity, but instead makes it necessary to be placed behind instead. The Plane does not „rotate“ on take off, instead the wings are shaped in a downward position and not straight like normal airliners. So basically the plane always stays in a straight position and never rotates on its axis. That makes securing the loaded bombs also easier and not really necessary. It just is a revolutionary plane with techniques that never got used again apparently!
