My teachers said they did not give 100s because nobody is perfect. Boy, were they wrong...but they did not know the absolute perfection that is Sissel!!!
Her voice is stunning. I actually started getting chills at the end and it's amazing that she did this performance live! I wish she would produce more albums and go on more tours. :/
Not true! She is a badly (or not at all??) trained soubretta who really should not sing this kind of repertoire. Her tiny voice makes this sooo boring. This song needs a heavier, more majestic, powerful voice from a REAL classic soprano or mezzo. This is and always has been a ridiculous version made for those who fell for Sissel's likeability and beauty. Soubretta voices are pretty but week. That's why Julie Andrews, a soubretta Sissel can't even dream of competing with, never sang this song.
Absolutely not. It's a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this better.
The hero's journey, Sweetness. One has walked it more than once but not with complete success. Now he's old but happy. Instead of slaying the dragon he found a shining gem in the northland with whom he dwells everyday through music.
"like an angel"? EFFORTLESS??? She sounds terrible here because her voice is just to weak and tiny for these bombastic arrangements. She sounds laughably weak. This song needs a more powerfull, majestic voice, not a tiny (and badly, if at all, trained) soubretta voice like Sissel's.
Absolutely not. It's a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this better.
Absolutely not!!! Julie Andrews sand so much more skilfull and was clever enough to avaoid any repertoire that is to heavy for a soft soubretta voice. This terrible screaming from a singer who really doesn't sound like having had a single singing lesson is not at all compareable to Julie Andrews.
For the Robert Wise's movie ' The Sound of Music ', Rodgers and Hammerstein composed this wonderful ' Climb Every Mountain ' (1965) here masterly performed by Sissel...I became her fan !
They did NOT compose it for the movie but for the stage. The movie version came years later. But above all: Sissel has a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this much better.

The Sound of Music is one of my favourite musicals and I love each and every song of it. Sissel does a beautiful job by singing this. Did she sing Maria too ???
Absolutely not. It's a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this better.
Sissel Kyrkjebo es una bella soprano sueca que consiguió marcar un hito en el catálogo de cantantes líricas con esta bella versión de "Climb every mountain" de la película "La Novicia Rebelde".
@1979marty She is a natural soprano. She hits the high notes absolutely spot-on and unlike many sopranos doesn't have to sound as though she's busting a gut to get there. Give me her innate talent over that of an overtrained opera singer any day
@Mariano Alojado Sissel sang this as Maria, in the norwegian version of Sound of Music in the 80's - due to the incredible vocal talent(but originally it "belongs" to Mother Superior in the musical).
@Yellie876 I think I know what you are trying to say, but I believe she is able to hit the notes with just the right amount of power and pitch. Too many singers, especially some of the better known opera singers tend to rely rather too much on power of voice alone and this can have the effect of detracting from the music rather than adding to it. I think Sissel has got it just right
@MrGunterguerrero Rodgers and Hammerstein actually wrote Climb Ev'ry Mountain in 1959 for the broadway musical Sound of Music. Hammerstein died shortly after in 1960. Robert Wise's movie only came along after the stage version had become a resounding international success.
If i'm going to be absolutely honest i think the first few lines are not so solid, but after that she is insanely good, i like this more than the version i was looking for =)
@1979marty You're either intentionally trying to start an argument or you're deaf. If anyone ever had the innate ability to sing this song it is Sissel. @blackbeasthamish is exactly correct. She reached the high notes on this song as she does on all her other songs: effortlessly. Had there been video on this clip you would have seen a lovely smile on her face through the most difficult parts ... no straining, no grimacing, just beauty.
Hear My call and prepare for the pouring out of My Holy Spirit. -Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 @ 20:00 My dearly beloved daughter My love for all of you means that I now pour the Holy Spirit, once again, over humanity to entice them to open their hearts. Many souls will feel the power of the Holy Spirit pour over them in mind, body and soul very soon. This is essential in order to wake up all of God’s children to the truth. Some people will now see the world in a different way. Then they will begin to question everything. No longer will they be willing to remain slaves to masters whose only goal is to control them for personal gain. No one will be able to ignore this pull of the Holy Spirit. All of Heaven awaits so that the moment of enlightenment will create a new dawn, a new beginning. The lies you are being confronted with hide a master plan, born out of a world alliance designed to control all of your countries. By making your country rely on giants to feed their families you will become slaves. Already they are taking away everything you own but you are blind to this. Now with the gift of the Holy Spirit, millions will see through this mask of deceit and oppose these wicked masonic controlled groups. This gift will give you the armour you need to throw this army off the trail of your destruction. Hear My call and prepare for the pouring out of My Holy Spirit. Absolutely terrible! One of the worst versions I've ever heard. Tiny voice screached and pressed to make it sound bigger. It almost hurts.Sissel is a (badly or not at all trained) soubretta. But honestly, she should forevermore stay away from this kind of repertoire and sind pop music or so.

wonderful version of this lovely song. The brilliant Sissel.
Sensational! The best rendition after the original. Hats off to her!
Sensationally sung by one of the very best!
Her voice is stunning. I actually started getting chills at the end and it's amazing that she did this performance live! I wish she would produce more albums and go on more tours. :/
Sissel has crystal clear voice!! Beautifull girl. I did not know about her. I missed so much!!
For a soprano the timbre in her voice is incredible, every word is as clear as a bell and she sings like bells also.

Adore SIssel - An amazing and beautiful voice.. I love this song from "The Sound of Music."
This sublime performance was even not a studio recording - but live in concert!
Beyond description.
Absolutely not. It's a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this better.
Sissel....beautiful, amazing , divine, God voice !!!
Climb Every Mountain is our Elementary Graduation Song. Truly, Sissel's voice is a gift from heaven. She sang it very well...
Her voice is in deed beautiful but not suited for this song.
Wonderful
Thank you
The hero's journey, Sweetness. One has walked it more than once but not with complete success. Now he's old but happy. Instead of slaying the dragon he found a shining gem in the northland with whom he dwells everyday through music.
It brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful.
Wow just fantastic she sings like an angel and is effortless at doing so I would love to go see her in concert!

MY EYES ARE FILLED WITH TEARS!!!
Her English and Norwegian versions are SENSATIONAL
thank you
So inspiring!
Beyond words.
Right! It's terrible beyobnd words.
What a beautiful voice.
True but not for this song.
Ivamar Just discovered this fantastic voice through an email sent to me.Wow, now I am hooked.
Omg, one of the best versions I've ever heard.. Kinda like a soprano/more operatic enya.
LOVELY!
Yes, Sissel played Maria in the Norwegian version of The Sound Of Music in Norway in 1989. :-)
thanks for that information . now I will be looking for it .. dang , I hope you're still around to read this , 12 years is a long time
This must be the best interpration of "Climb Every Mountain" on RUclips.
+Dreamer Her 1991 version is probably even better
No, it's actually one of the worst.
I agree, unfortunately it's in Norwegian.
Oops. "Se over fjellet" is from 1989, not 1991.
WOW!!!
this is really good !
Jeg elsker se over fjellet...
TREMENDOUS SINGING
Absolutely not. It's a tiny and badly trained soubretta voice. Really nothing special. Thousands of girls all over the world in hundreds of theaters sing this better.
love it. :)
I just realized how much Sissel reminds me of Dame Julie Andrews. Her voice is so pure and angelic like Julie's. They even look something alike
u'te right. Beautiful 😀

I can't say enough about the beauty of her voice.

She is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice and and her songs, in a way she reminds me of Kate Smith you can understand what she is singing.
The Sound of Music is one of my favourite musicals and I love each and every song
of it. Sissel does a beautiful job by singing
this. Did she sing Maria too ???
I think she did Maria in a Norwegian liveversion...
This version is incredible. So well managed and intimate. I enjoyed this.

True! And "Climb every mountain" was NEVER supposed to be sung by badly trained soubrettas with tiny voices like Sissel!!!😄😆😂

How beutiful (Pent) Har due noen Norske sanger?
Kaare Bye (Woodland, Utah 84036
Ann-Marie MacFarlane - Climb Ev'ry Mountain (Rodgers and Hammerstein)
Another terrible version but at least a little better that Sissel, I'll give you that.
@12rosebud12 Basseys version of this song is quite remarkable.
@emmycutes No, not Maria but Mother Abbess.
Is she singing EV-wy?
Would you be familiar with Shirley Bassey?
Unlinke Sissel THAT was a really good singer who was smart enough never to sing a song (or arrangement) that didn't suit her voice.
@jleb22 I'll tell the sax player.
..still no Helsinki in the list....
