Chan himself said this is VERY VERY experimental song and Hyunjin said he was surprised this song was included in the album, it's is very weird at first cause it something you don't hear anywhere else but istg the more you listen the best and after reading the lyrics you can say they're geniuses, the song it's obvious not for everyone but but it's soo good
yes same! when i first heard it i was like "whoa, this song is weird...but i like it". and now it's one of my favourite SKZ songs.
I was also very surprised to find such an experimental gem in a kpop album because i couldn't believe the company allowed it. but it's paid off because skz keep getting recognition for their musicality.
yeah i thought it was such a strange song at first but it ended up as my most listened to song of 2021

I love how much information, knowledge and "deconstruction" you give about SKZ music. It gives us fans, the opportunity to see SKZ (3RACHA especially) production skills from a more deep perspective. Bang Chan's "lazy rapping" is easily my favourite part of this song. It fits so well with this song. It's so nonchalant, it goes with the message that they're trying to say; "Go your own pace. You'll get there no matter what." So he's almost rapping in that lazy tone to show that he KNOWS that he'll get there, it doesn't matter to him who is going faster. "You can take an airplane, but I'll take the train"
THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE is a reminder to most of us Stays/non stays that Stray Kids are really experimental, creative and story tellers. This reminds me that they are uniquely different which I love so much about them. More than the “story” or “message” like even the thought of creating such song, like WOW! These boys will go far. I am proud to support such talented, fearless and hardworking artists. Thank you so much for this reaction! I love it and I learned so much 🤍

Can we talk about how wild it is that Skz threw a literal speedcore beat on a song on their Kpop album. Depending on how you count, the fast beat is literally 300 BPM, making this by far the fastest Kpop song. THEY DID THAT.

Imo Tortoise & the Hare is one of Stray Kids' most genius creation, the lyrics & arrangements, the play on words & rhythm while conveying something meaningful is totally mind blowing

I was taken aback when I first heard it. It was daring for SKZ to make it AND include it in the album. It has message and interesting structure. Chan’s music universe, philosophy, and world view are broader than Korean market.
I want skz to advance as fast as a hare yet anything big and grand doesn’t happen overnight, like skz is taking turtle steps or crawling pace. I am old enough to be their grandma. I surely want to see how far Chan and Company go in life before I kick the bucket.

11:27 I like that he mentioned how the song still feels short. That it’s longer than the preview they first watched and yet still feels incomplete. That’s what I love about the sound of this song. It doesn’t feel complete and yet the rhythm of it is so hypnotic that it makes me want to play it on repeat. I want the feeling of a satisfactory conclusion but this song doesn’t give you one so all you’re left with is to put it on a loop.
When i listen to it I have to listen to it multiple times before I can move on from it, so I feel you 😆
@@saorise28 no one’s gonna convince me that this wasn’t the intended reaction to this song! I think I once went like… several hours listening to it on loop just cause I lost track of how long it had been playing. It just never felt like I was getting tired of it so I let it play.
Honestly, if I was a music teacher (I'm a teacher but I know nothing technical about music lol) I would use Stray Kids for my examples!! Their music is so rich and versatile that I'm sure we could analyze everything about their discography. Thank you so much for this review, I was waiting for it so bad! The world needs more reactions to "The Tortoise and The Hare" it's such a masterpiece!

I love listening to people talk about their passions in a detailed way, specially listening to these musicians go so in depth into every aspect of music. I really enjoyed learning even more about my favourite song and why I love it soo much. The guy that explained that part about the shift from fast pace into a sudden slow pace explained into words my exact feelings about that part of the song, it really does envelop you into expectation. I also think one of my favourite parts of the song is the chorus, where they’re singing(?) kind of in like a normal pace and the beat is rushing past them in the background, so it creates an imagery of those movie scenes where a person is stuck in place whilst everything else is at a fast pace, like a timeline. Great video!!
Love what Jason said about enjoying their youth by not forcing themselves to try and make music that is ahead of their current pace, like trying sounds just for the sake of "progressing" their music

Experimental song that shocked the music industry. WE STAN FEARLESS KINGS for trying and experimenting plus the meaning of the lyrics was also deep.
TTATH is the song that you find it funny and weird at the first time you listen to it, but when you going deep dive into the song, it's literally an art, very experimental yet still authentic but addicting at the same time.
Honestly i'm glad that Stray Kids don't really care about the music trends, but they make what they want to make, so they work on unlimited creative resources, although sometimes it's kinda hit or miss but that what makes it more interesting, we never know what will they do with their music.
Already said it but will say it again, if The Tortoise and the Hare had an equivalent in cinema it would be Takashi ITO's Thunder or any japanese experimental films by him or Toshio Matsumoto. Everytime I listen to this song (surely one of my fav of Stray kids), I have their movies running into my brain and just want to do m own, this is just so cool !
(Came back after watching the reaction : I posted months ago a quick editing of Thunder on top of The Tortoise and the Hare right after discovering the song because I was so shocked about how the 2 fit perfectly together. If some are curious about how it looks like, you know where to find it, but please be careful because there is a LOT of flashing lights !

I think I'm gonna watch this video 10 times over just out of appreciation, because I definitely learned a lot and I've been craving to know why this song is sits so well with me! Stays know and love and FEEL the creativity and authenticity coming from TTATH. The structure and overall ambiance drew me in immediately and it's just one of my favorite songs by them, and now hearing your breakdown of it made it even more fascinating.
the fact that this song receives a lot of hate from the antis (specially tiktok) says a lot about what stray kids can do a difference from other groups, they give it its essence and meaning, it is sad that many people still don’t appreciate it in the same way, thanks for the whole information tho!
I really like the girl who noticed that although rythm changed and the subdivisions changed, the tempo stayed the same, and that shows that although everybody goes at different paces in life, in the end, everybody will end up being the same.
I'll never forget when i played it for a friend of mine the first time. i was introducing him to skz over the course of a few days/weeks, and eventually i decided that it was ttath's turn to shine. the first thing he said when we finished listening to it was "can we play that one again?". he loved it so much that we wound up listening to it 3 times in a row lmao
like around 18:40 im not a music analyst person, I'm not well versed in any of this rlly but I think it's also interesting how the beat stays the same the whole time like how time irl just goes the same pace no matter what (for most humans, I'm not taking into account the whole thing w gravity changing time or whatever) so really no matter how 'fast' or 'slow' we go in our lives, time is still gonna go the same for everyone

It's so hated for some reasons but I think it's one of their best tracks it's so captivating, I love how the song literally is like a tortoise and a hare having a race with each other with the slow and speed rapping/singing parts alternating, and the lyrics are so clever as well

If you are interested in the commentary that stray kids do on their creative process and the stress they feel to “go fast”, I recommend their song “chronosaurus”. It is really interesting and a little bit sad but still one of my favourite songs since a long time ago.

Like Han said "this is a masterpiece". Like it or not, you can't deny 3racha are taking risks and experimenting a lot. This is one of the most Stray Kids songs ever, it has the strong rap line, the double meaning and lots of word play, a deep and smart meaning behind the song but they also tell the story in a fun way, the Changbin ending verse is the cherry on top, his laugh and the members clapping and laughing... i love it 💖 the analisis and reaction was awesome as always 💖

Hey Umu, out of curiosity do you plan on reviewing Stray Kids’ NOEASY album w/ Crystal Bell again? Or possibly interviewing any of the co-producers on the album like Krysta Youngs or TELYKast, etc? I loved hearing yours & Crystal’s thoughts about Go Live In Life last yr. So I thought I’d ask
