Erica Griffin do you think there will be a note 8 or will the re re release of the note 7 be all? I have a Nexus 6p that's working fine but I find myself wanting a new rig due to lack of expandable memory and no waterproofing. I've had it break a couple of time with fingerprint scanner and external speaker not working, plus waking up from the black screen is very slow as well as the camera speed.
I think what will help is giving some brief summary of your feelings about the phone at the beginning, and then getting into the nitty gritty after that. Perhaps some time stamps too.

Erica Griffin if you have the Snapdragon galaxy S7, that is the reason you're phone is getting bogged down over time. the Exynos is much faster and has much better ram mamagement
Alot of comments on exynos still being fast, snapdragon bogs down. I had 2 s7 edge snapdragon and still have 1 exynos s7 edge. The exynos was always faster without the snapdragon issues. I was set on the s8+ as I always get big phones but holding the s8 at best buy. Wow what a nice hand feel. Now I can't decide what size I want.
Got my Galaxy S6 right when it came out, 2 years later and my phone is running just fine. And that's after I've dropped a 45 lbs weight on the screen at the gym. Screen is cracked but damn it held up, no issues what so ever.

Jenelle Anderson how high did it drop from what weight? I dropped a 45 lbs dumbell on mine. I was sitting down and dropped them to the ground and hit my phone dead on the top left corner. Cracked and even left a little crater deep into the device. Even took off the screen protector and the glass is still basically all holding up and no issues with me not being able to press any buttons etc. Keep in mind this was over a year ago. A whole year after I already had it. So 1 year of clean use, gets smashed, 1 year later and still running smooth.
Sadly the S8 will not compete with the Note 4 after mid afternoon because the battery will be flat. My dream is to have a Note 8 with a beautiful plastic back and five batteries, then I can use my device as an office and not as a toy. A good case/stand is vital if you are not a skilled at juggling.
I currently have the Note5. it's a beaut'. I think I've had it for over a year. it's still really fast and I really love it. I've dropped it so many times and it still shoots like a new pistol. However, out of boredom, I pre-ordered the 8+ cuz its pretty. For people that say "why waste your money on a phone?" I don't watch TV, or buy name brand clothes/shoes and I don't drink and my phone is my ultimate entertainment device. Everyone has their thing they spend money on and for me, that's gadgets like phones.

Between the Bixby button, the shitty (yes it looks nice for 5 minutes but SUCKS usability wise) edge display, and the shitty fingerprint placement, this phone SCREAMS "Please use our shitty gimmicks! Please!" Not impressed at all Samsung. It's sad that now, so many are falling for Samsung's marketing *worse* than people did for much of Apple's spin. I prefer having a fingerprint scanner on the front and no iris scanner, like with the iPhone 7. Even the iPhone edition will have the fingerprint scanner on the front while still having that large almost bezeless display.

When Erica mentioned about unlocking the device with photo, she was talking about facial recognition. Please listen to her properly. 2. S8 has both OIS and EIS. It's just the first when Samsung put stabilization on 4k recording. If you don't believe me, listen to her again or google it. Phone Daft from what I heard, Samsung is offering a 3 Month Garrantee, that if for any reason at all you are dissatisfied withthe S8 or S8+ they will give you FULL Refund. & Samsung has always taken responsibility when it comes to stuff like that. So I say go ahead & pre-order it & if dissatisfied with the battery life get the full refund. P.S. I am a Samsung Person but do like Apple devices aswell BUT unlike Samsung, Apple will never commit to any garrantees like that so yea keep that in mind lol, Apple wont take responsibility on their mistakes & find a reason to blame the consumers.

Omg , i had problems with this phone bought it last may 20 ....not more than 7 days ive notice it was heating up... Samsung store didnt.want to replace it until they did... But now june 16 im having problems with its sounds .... No sounds at all ... It is a big pain for me coz ... The service center said that they wont be changing my phone anymore but will just repair or whatever they can do to resolve issue.... Omg its like i bought a worst second hand phone ... My Oppo is functioning well compare to this s8 + ... Oppo i have been dropping it several times.. But this samsung i treat it like a fragile baby yet.... It sucks... Hello samsung... Matjaž Šparaš I am actually going to get the Note 4. Upgrading from Note 3, which is now needs an MOT. Managed to get a new one for £200. Love the flat screen (easy to put glass screen cover!), removable battery 🔋 and IR blaster, no back screen to crack 😀. Superb screen resolution at 515ppi. Screen mirror.... What more do you need. 👌👌👌
Erica, you are the first tech reviewer that has pointed out that a phone has slowed down. I've experienced the same issue on many Android devices. I had the S7 Edge after the Note 7 fiasco and returned it due to it slowing down the horrible DAC. I got the LG V20 but it slows down at times as well. I don't know if it's something to do with Android and how it's optimized with these devices but if the S8 and the G6 keep slowing down I might switch to the dark side. Any thoughts? The review was great btw very helpful.
Mrunal Trivedi I had the Note 7 and enjoyed it while it lasted, but I agree with the slowdown on the Samsung phones. The V20 is my first LG and that I have a difference of opinion. I originally would've agreed with you. I thought I started to notice some issues. I now restart my phone at minimum once a week. I also made some tweaks to it and I have it running like it did the day that I took it out of the box. I'm using Nova Launcher and I shut off the animations on the phone. No lag and very responsive. Like, I said there was a point that I would've agreed with you, but I think if you tinker a bit with it and also get in a habit a restarting it every 3 days to a week you'll notice the better performance.
I actually did start restarting the phone for the past month or so and that has helped. I'll give the animations a try. I have also tried using other launchers but can't get around the fact of liking them(for example using google launcher on an LG, i'm better off getting a pixel if that's the case)
Mrunal Trivedi I guess you can try the Pixel, but I know 3 people personally who got rid of the Pixel for the V20. I happen to like Google and use a lot of their apps, but not their launcher. I tried it, but didn't like it personally. (I guess Google doesn't love it either because I guess that's why they're discontinuing it). I would try Nova Prime. I love that launcher and keep using it on on all my phones. I'm trying to think about what other tweaks I've made. If I think of the other things I've done, I will let you know. In the meantime, I would tinker with it more because I do feel if you can get the right settings it works great!
Son Goli I was trying to recommend a different launcher. He felt if he was going to use a Google launcher why not just get the Pixel. So if he used that launcher it would be more or less than same. I personally like Nova the best. There are a few I think are a close second, but I'm most happy with Nova Prime. Especially if he wants a different experience from the Pixel launcher.

Neanderthal no. Apple is a different os altogether. You can't compare the two. With that being said, Apple better at least put a 2k display on the iPhone 8. The iPhone 7+ does have dual rear cameras, and dual front speakers. Both of which the s8 and s8+ do not have.
If you don't want your S7 to lag, don't buy a US variant buy the SM-G935F AKA the European variant which is the best because it comes with the Exynos 8890, and the US variant comes with the Snapdragon 820.
IKR idk why does Samsung sells the Snapdragon ones. Well this time we'll have to see whether or not Snapdragon is better than the Exynos. Cos this time Samsung had a hand in making the Sd 835. Not expecting much though. I still trust Exynos over Snapdragon

I don't think it was a choice. There was no place else to put it once they realized that the" under-screen" fingerprint scanner wasn't going to be ready for the S8. Sammy was probably blindsided by that and had to rush to put it where it is to avoid delaying the release on the phone. Not to say that Sammy never made stupid choices before but this was not one of them.

Despite what other people might've said, i really enjoy these in-depth hands on review as it's really great at giving us a detailed first glimpse at the product before eventually followed by a great super in-depth review. Your reviews are one of the best of RUclips since you really dig deep at every point of the device, making it easier for us to make the decision to buy a smartphone. (bought a moto g 1st gen and later an iPhone 5s after watching your vids, so it did work! thanks!)
My s7 edge hasn't slowed down one bit and I have probably 39 games on it and a ton of apps on it as well. If your experiencing lag issues go into your apps especially Facebook RUclips Google apps any type of video app or social media go to storage and clear cache. This will keep your phone running good. I've done this to all apps on my phone at least once every 2 months and never had slowdown issues on any of them. I also have most stock apps disabled keep developer option enabled get rid of animations Al together and as well do a full clear system cache in recovery every 3 months. I have never experienced my android phones slowing down on me as long as I do this once every 2 months I'd say is sufficient some people do this more often most people don't even realize they can do this. My s7 edge is just as snappy as the day I bought it which is stain something considering its got alot of apps on it and also many on the SD card the only time I do see any type of lag is when turning it on since so many apps are also on the SD card it takes a few minutes for it to fully boot up to where I can actually start really using it this could also be because I have secure lock enabled. I love my s7 edge though and already have an s8+ pre ordered and it'll be here on April 21st which I can't wait for. I love the looks of the s8 kind of upset about the Fingerprint scanner location as I use my Fingerprint scanner for everything but the way they utilized the front of the phone is quite impressive.
Lemme know how it works for you I've had all the galaxy phones pretty much I've set them all up very similar and done this and never had an issue with them.

I've experienced the same slowdown on my s7 edge, it's usually fast but has those annoying moments when it slows down to a crawl for a few seconds. Very very frustrating!

my s7 since I got it was sluggish while even next to my note 5 there was a clear difference of which one felt better to operate. Samsung phones have never really aged well while my lg g4 is still snappy and my v20, which has the same processer(in America) runs circles around my s7.

What's the point of having a 2k display and the fastest processor if by default the screen is set to 1080p and the cpu is throttled just to get adequate battery life? The more I see this phone the more I think it's just a showpiece for the screen.

You xant run cpu to the fullest, brightness need to be lowered to keep phone running for longer...these phones need batteries 5000 mAh + and maybe this unhealthy obsession with big screen need to stop, phone is mobile device and i want to be able to fit it in my jeans and my hand comfortably.

Everyone really should spread the news from this video that the camera sensor is not the same from the S7 series. That's a huge factor being misreported everywhere and will definitely influence lots of buyers out there

Still running a Samsung Mega from 2013. Phone has been an UTTER BEAST! No cracks, lockups, failures and runs any software I throw at it. I love that phone for a million reasons. That being said, my Samsung S8+ is IN THE MAIL!!! I can't wait!

dude i use a note edge and the IR blaster comes into use with the peel remote control for AC TV etc and its good to have one.
my fix for that was just getting a harmony hub. A while ago you could get one for $40 but I don't remember if you can still get it for that.

Pre-ordered my s8 plus, can't wait for the 21st. My s6 was still running totally fine until a few months ago I dropped it and the lcds under the screen broke so I can't see anything so I decided to upgrade

Omg , i had problems with this phone bought it last may 20 ....not more than 7 days ive notice it was heating up... Samsung store didnt.want to replace it until they did... But now june 16 im having problems with its sounds .... No sounds at all ... It is a big pain for me coz ... The service center said that they wont be changing my phone anymore but will just repair or whatever they can do to resolve issue.... Omg its like i bought a worst second hand phone ... My Oppo is functioning well compare to this s8 + ... Oppo i have been dropping it several times.. But this samsung i treat it like a fragile baby yet.... It sucks... Hello samsung... Can you please....
My S7 is as snappy as ever, no slowdown what so ever. The triple tone display I got is just as shit as day one though.

I am actually going to get the Note 4. Upgrading from Note 3, which is now needs an MOT. Managed to get a new one for £200. Love the flat screen (easy to put glass screen cover!), removable battery 🔋 and IR blaster, no back screen to crack 😀. Superb screen resolution at 515ppi. Screen mirror.... What more do you need. 👌👌👌
Erica, you are the first tech reviewer that has pointed out that a phone has slowed down. I've experienced the same issue on many Android devices. I had the S7 Edge after the Note 7 fiasco and returned it due to it slowing down the horrible DAC. I got the LG V20 but it slows down at times as well. I don't know if it's something to do with Android and how it's optimized with these devices but if the S8 and the G6 keep slowing down I might switch to the dark side. Any thoughts? The review was great btw very helpful.
Mrunal Trivedi I had the Note 7 and enjoyed it while it lasted, but I agree with the slowdown on the Samsung phones. The V20 is my first LG and that I have a difference of opinion. I originally would've agreed with you. I thought I started to notice some issues. I now restart my phone at minimum once a week. I also made some tweaks to it and I have it running like it did the day that I took it out of the box. I'm using Nova Launcher and I shut off the animations on the phone. No lag and very responsive. Like, I said there was a point that I would've agreed with you, but I think if you tinker a bit with it and also get in a habit a restarting it every 3 days to a week you'll notice the better performance.
I actually did start restarting the phone for the past month or so and that has helped. I'll give the animations a try. I have also tried using other launchers but can't get around the fact of liking them(for example using google launcher on an LG, i'm better off getting a pixel if that's the case)
Mrunal Trivedi I guess you can try the Pixel, but I know 3 people personally who got rid of the Pixel for the V20. I happen to like Google and use a lot of their apps, but not their launcher. I tried it, but didn't like it personally. (I guess Google doesn't love it either because I guess that's why they're discontinuing it). I would try Nova Prime. I love that launcher and keep using it on on all my phones. I'm trying to think about what other tweaks I've made. If I think of the other things I've done, I will let you know. In the meantime, I would tinker with it more because I do feel if you can get the right settings it works great!

Son Goli I was trying to recommend a different launcher. He felt if he was going to use a Google launcher why not just get the Pixel. So if he used that launcher it would be more or less than same. I personally like Nova the best. There are a few I think are a close second, but I'm most happy with Nova Prime. Especially if he wants a different experience from the Pixel launcher.
Seriously even my Note 5 runs like a champ with 7.0 Nougat, how the hell ppl manage to cripple their phones thats what i always wondered

Neanderthal no. Apple is a different os altogether. You can't compare the two. With that being said, Apple better at least put a 2k display on the iPhone 8. The iPhone 7+ does have dual rear cameras, and dual front speakers. Both of which the s8 and s8+ do not have.
If you don't want your S7 to lag, don't buy a US variant buy the SM-G935F AKA the European variant which is the best because it comes with the Exynos 8890, and the US variant comes with the Snapdragon 820.

Great review Erica! I was looking forward for the S8, but the fingerprint button near the camera is killing all the buzz. Why didn't they put it under the camera? It was a stupid choice! Users will hit the camera all the time!

I don't think it was a choice. There was no place else to put it once they realized that the" under-screen" fingerprint scanner wasn't going to be ready for the S8. Sammy was probably blindsided by that and had to rush to put it where it is to avoid delaying the release on the phone. Not to say that Sammy never made stupid choices before but this was not one of them.

Despite what other people might've said, i really enjoy these in-depth hands on review as it's really great at giving us a detailed first glimpse at the product before eventually followed by a great super in-depth review. Your reviews are one of the best of RUclips since you really dig deep at every point of the device, making it easier for us to make the decision to buy a smartphone. (bought a moto g 1st gen and later an iPhone 5s after watching your vids, so it did work! thanks!)
My s7 edge hasn't slowed down one bit and I have probably 39 games on it and a ton of apps on it as well. If your experiencing lag issues go into your apps especially Facebook RUclips Google apps any type of video app or social media go to storage and clear cache. This will keep your phone running good. I've done this to all apps on my phone at least once every 2 months and never had slowdown issues on any of them. I also have most stock apps disabled keep developer option enabled get rid of animations Al together and as well do a full clear system cache in recovery every 3 months. I have never experienced my android phones slowing down on me as long as I do this once every 2 months I'd say is sufficient some people do this more often most people don't even realize they can do this. My s7 edge is just as snappy as the day I bought it which is stain something considering its got alot of apps on it and also many on the SD card the only time I do see any type of lag is when turning it on since so many apps are also on the SD card it takes a few minutes for it to fully boot up to where I can actually start really using it this could also be because I have secure lock enabled. I love my s7 edge though and already have an s8+ pre ordered and it'll be here on April 21st which I can't wait for. I love the looks of the s8 kind of upset about the Fingerprint scanner location as I use my Fingerprint scanner for everything but the way they utilized the front of the phone is quite impressive.

I've experienced the same slowdown on my s7 edge, it's usually fast but has those annoying moments when it slows down to a crawl for a few seconds. Very very frustrating!

my s7 since I got it was sluggish while even next to my note 5 there was a clear difference of which one felt better to operate. Samsung phones have never really aged well while my lg g4 is still snappy and my v20, which has the same processer(in America) runs circles around my s7.

What's the point of having a 2k display and the fastest processor if by default the screen is set to 1080p and the cpu is throttled just to get adequate battery life? The more I see this phone the more I think it's just a showpiece for the screen.
Jose Vazquez true, fanboys get too excited by specs but im not impressed, most important feature, battery size, is too small for screen that size. You xant run cpu to the fullest, brightness need to be lowered to keep phone running for longer...these phones need batteries 5000 mAh + and maybe this unhealthy obsession with big screen need to stop, phone is mobile device and i want to be able to fit it in my jeans and my hand comfortably.

Everyone really should spread the news from this video that the camera sensor is not the same from the S7 series. That's a huge factor being misreported everywhere and will definitely influence lots of buyers out there

Still running a Samsung Mega from 2013. Phone has been an UTTER BEAST! No cracks, lockups, failures and runs any software I throw at it. I love that phone for a million reasons. That being said, my Samsung S8+ is IN THE MAIL!!! I can't wait!
