We have the same washing machine and it has to be over/around a decade old. As old as it is, it still works well. About a week ago we started getting water in the detergent tray and fabric softener tray after doing a load of laundry. We never realized just how filthy the detergent/softener trays and the drawer itself could actually get. When I pulled out the drawer we saw that ours was filled with slime and black moldy gel. Some of the water jet holes were partially clogged with mold and gunk. I watched a few RUclips videos that had suggestions on how to clean the jets and other areas of the machine. From now on I will be pulling the tray out occasionally and keep that area nice and clean to keep from having any problems in the future. Now that I gave the trays, drawer, jets, etc. a really thorough cleaning this Samsung washer is still working great.
I didn't realize it could possibly be that simple to pull out the drawer on the washing machine, but I'm so glad I came across this video. I might not go back to machine washing everything, but heavy duty things (like comforters) will no longer be washed in the tub.
Great video! I don’t think many people know the drawer comes out and gunk builds up in there. The “ceiling” of where the drawer is inside on mine was so filmy and gross, I scrubbed at it with an old toothbrush and sprayed with the garden hose from the garage with a pressure nozzle. Spraying it as I went along allowed me to see where I still needed to scrub. The water I sprayed in there went down and accumulated in the tub of the washer, it didn’t wash back out on me or anything. Then once I reassembled the drawer and put it back in, I ran a just “rinse and spin” cycle to empty it and then after that was done, I went ahead and used the washing machine cleaner. No faint yucky smell anymore! I searched for “gunky front load washer soap drawer” and found your video and I’m so glad I did. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one with this issue.
Wow right on. That is great that there was not a lot of mess. It blows my mind how nasty the whole front load washer gets in a short period of time. Thank you for the information and glad you got your washer cleaned up.
Thank you for taking the time to film this. I found this incredibly useful and helpful. I know it seems simple but sometimes certain jobs are intimidating and all it takes is seeing someone go through the motions. Thanks again! Edit: spelling
Thank you so much for this video... I knew there was a way to get that drawer out, just could never figure it out. You don't want to know how dirty and moldy my drawer was... YUCK... but it sparkles now.. Thanks again
It should do If you have the manual for the machine it will tell you there If not look for it online Failing that: Most drawers have a catch, a tab, a lever or some other method of meaning that the drawer doesn't come all the way out at first You need to find what is preventing it from coming all the way out When you figure that out clean the drawer but also where the drawer fits and the water is filled into the drawer There will be build up.and mildew in there Use an old toothbrush and diluted bleach and some elbow grease! Once a month 1 teaspoon of bleach in the prewash and mainwash compartments, put the washing machine on its hottest and longest possible cycle include a prewash and extra rinse Don't forget the pump filter either and also check the door seal gasket Doing a once a month maintenence wash and check will mean your machine is performing to its best 👌

How do you clean above the dispenser? Its very moldy and hard to get to.

Your very welcome! Thank you for the wonderful comments and I hope we can help again.
@@ThatFixItGuy and im happy to mention that I successfully cleaned my very nasty detergent tray and behind it.
Thanks to you!
I use pods that go directly into the washer drum, so can I wash clothes while the dispenser drawer is drying?
If you wash clothes water will go through the drawer. It is designed that way.
This is the exact video I needed! Cheers from Nova Scotia!

Does the actual housing that the tray sits in come out? I've got some mold build up and can't get to it.
I would have to look at your to know for sure, but on our washer all those trays come out. Send me a picture if you like. Ufix247@gmail.com
