  • I decided to do a review of the two common tire sizes that fit onto the 2.15-19 rear rim on todays MX bikes. What is the difference and can you tell? I'm no expert but I'm probably better then you and MXA combined.

    Best tire explaination I've seen. My son and I have done basically the same test with our KX450f and KX250f besides ours being both 4 stroke's. But your exactly right on all counts. Awesome video

      @@zackiaryruddick701 google aspect ratios . Here’s an example -The aspect ratio, or profile, refers to the height of the sidewall as a % of the section width. In our example, 55 means the height is equal to 55% of the 195mm width. The bigger the aspect ratio, the bigger the sidewall will be.

That just makes it sound confusing you may be right but I don't understand how the tyer measures up

    thank you so much for that video !!! i've been searching everywhere to find such an important info , wanting to swap my rear wheel to 19" (cr500r , because can't get 18" motocross tires anymore here in Israel...) , and didn't know which mx33 to choose - the 120/80-19 or the 110/100-19 ! and i just hate tall tires because they give the "stink bug" feeling rear end. now, if i get the forks lower, it does compensates in a way but not so good because you still get a longer wheelbase, for you must take the rear wheel more back in the swingarm or the taller tires bite off the mud flap and get too close to the swingarm ... so, great comparison, take care , greetings from Israel !

    Great Video. Been searching all this data for the XT250. Stock 120/80-18. Was wondering what 120/90 would do? Raise the rear and set suspension off. Might just stick with stock sizes.

    It's only 3mm taller. The sidewall height is a percentage of the width. 80%of 120 vs 90% of 110. 3mm.

    • @keithalexander36
      @keithalexander36  2 года назад +3

      In theory yes. However as you see in the MX33 tires it's over 10mm. It's not always an absolute with tires and brands its more of a range or group. Even my mustang with staggered wheels I have to pick the right 315 rear tire to keep from rubbing because it Even varys in width by as much as an inch from Nitto 555r to Nitto 05r and they are both 315/35/17. Thats why I made it clear both tires were mx33 as other brand may have a much different outcome.

    So my son has a SSR 189, it comes with 100/90-16.. I’m wondering what a 110/90-16 will do if anything, he thinks it’s a bit squirrelly with the narrow rear tire.

      I would suggest against it. I'd look at picking a better tire in stock size. Premium tires for small bikes are honestly pretty cheap and totally worth the extra (better tires means more traction means more safety... tires are cheaper than medical bills). A 100/90 means 100mm width, with 90% of the width as tire height, so in this case, 90mm height. A 110/90 would be 10mm wider, but still 90% width to height ratio, so 99mm height. Pretty much an extra centimeter from rim to tread over the stock size on BOTH sides of the tire, meaning that it would be an overall increase of about 2cm or roughly 3/4" wheel diameter. Not only would that have an impact on the overall gearing ratio between the final drive and the wheel (bigger wheel means less torque, more speed), but it would also impact the geometry and handling of the bike, effectively shifting weight bias toward the front wheel. That might not be a complete negative since it will help with front-end turning, but it will also reduce the traction of the rear tire and likely make the "squirrely" feeling even worse.
