  • Build focus and connection with your dog even in a distracting environment. In this video I demonstrate how to get a great connection with your dog even in a VERY distracting environment with a dog playing FETCH right in front of Goofy. That dog is Goofy's BEST FRIEND the Duane o Mator.
This can be done with a number of tools including pinch / prong collar, chain collar or as I demonstrate in this video with the slightest correction from an ecollar. I love the e-collar because, especially in this case, it allows me to give me dog the lightest correction to re-gain his attention.
No matter how you feel about ecollars, love them or HATE them, you'll see that this is a very fun experience for Goofy with the BEST RESULTS.
Building and keeping your dog's focus is not only important for training, but it can save your dog's life.
    In my members section at:
robertcabral.com I have a number of videos of how to properly introduce, use and understand the ecollar for your dog and that section as well as all my dog training lessons continues to grow.

@@RobertCabralDogs I was a member when my Boxer was younger (now 21 mos.). She is my 2nd Boxer and 100 fold more high strung than my 1st girl. It's the breeding! Only thing I didn't like about being a member is trying to get a question answered. Never did get one answered. I am disabled am need to get this girl to stop jumping up on folks. She sees the world as her toy! I have placed her in her crate, in another room.....she still has this issue even after months! She is well behaved at home with me, knows sit, lay down (down), go lay down (does this automatically when I sit to eat,) off, knows names of ALL her toys picks them up and places them in my hand, sits politely and waits for her meals to be placed down......but goes nutz when someone comes into the house, and yes I have tried having her sit 6 feet from the door before opening it. I even put her into crate as soon as a car drives up.
I trained my 1st girl to be my helper og and she was amazing. I am trying to train this girl to do the same.
      What would you do?

I just cared to explain to a group of positive only dog trainers how an e-collar is used correctly. They would'nt have any of it, even when the proof was right before their eyes. I was threathened by them, they said someone should use that e-collar on me. I told them i would'nt matter as long as they used it how i showed it to them (My dog gets really exited when i put it on, bcs he know it's training time = fun time). You can't help some people, a lesson i have learned this day.

It's completely unnecessary and it's extremely easy to hurt the dog. There shouldn't be "tools" in the market that can so easily hurt available to anyone. If it's only ok to use them with a very low intensity, why are there more "intensities" available? Plus, everytime It just confuses the dog and makes them scared, It should never be about punishing. Dogs WANT to do It right, you must just make them understand what you want and make It better for them to do what you want, building a connection between the person and the dog that gives them an emotional reward when the dog does what you want correctly.

    Robert, thought of you today.
We had a new "lawsuit waiting to happen" mal come into the groom shop I work at. Definitely not in the right home and living with people oblivious to the breed, so probably gotten from an irresponsible breeder.
Her original groomer turned her away after she was snapped at, so my boss groomed her. This mal somehow damaged our wall during her groom, too. Now my boss is a tough lady, but not even she would finish brushing her or do her nails because this dog was such at a high risk for biting, she couldn't even get a muzzle on her so my boss told the owner she refused to cut her nails.
Well, the owner comes in and has her own muzzle for the mal, and my boss did manage to clip her nails after that, but the mal still snapped at her. Oh, and the mal had an ill fitting collar.
Anyway, like I said, this owner was completely oblivious to this breed. Even tried playing the whole "oh I can't believe she snapped at you" bs, yikes! My boss tried giving her some advice but it went in one ear and out the other.
My point is, I just wanted to thank you for making videos and advocating that mals are a special breed and not for everyone. 🐕

We have been hand feeding him since we got him where we work on sit, down, and heel (and a tad of place). He’s pretty good with those commands was wondering when to start implementing new commands? On my days off I work him in an open field and then have him run around to stimulate his mind and body. Any suggestions to implement new commands also he and my American bully (year old) don’t get along all the time. Lastly where do you get your durable tugs? To train a kelpie one keeps it tied on a long rope for a few weeks (The Working Kelpie Council of Australia). If your dog gets into the woods and marks territory the challenge really begins. In 17th century Europe it was the fashion to keep a bird hopping around one's writing desk; a few weeks the bird was tied (by the leg) then the tether was released and the bird remained in the area covered by the tether. Similar with a dog. It's also a good idea to keep rewards/entertainment/interest concentrated in the area you want the dog (i.e. a bit like us, Why should I go looking elsewhere when everything I want is here). Being part boxer dog may help your cause, them being territorial by nature.

    • @kevinwilcox1835
      @kevinwilcox1835 4 года назад

Doesn't mean you can't take your dog for a walk in the woods. Go together. Most walks are (replication of) a hunting party. Walk/exercise the dog, return home (to the den) and feed it there. Familiarity: ritual and routine. if the dog sees you as a leader it will look to you for direction.

@@Wolffeathers21 Get over it, it's just a dog. What! He's 10, in our years around 70. Shouldn't need a "shock collar" at all. If he does, what's happening Mr. C? But Robert says it was just for fun. So that makes it ok? No. So a bloke says "I didn't hit the dog it was just a tap. I thought it was fun." I find it strange behaviour.

What do you think carnivores eat in the wild? Sanitised kibble dog food?
Parasites are no problem for dogs. It's the owners that need to watch out. Don't you buy raw chicken from the grocery store to cook at home? See? It's not a big deal. Just use common sense and properly wash the places the raw content has touched.
Also, you can't just give a dog/pet a slab of meat and pretend that it gets all the necessary nutrients from it. It needs to be a BALANCED meal. Research "BARF diet" (BARF = biologically appropriate raw food). Processed dog food is junk.

What fails to be said: E-collars don't come with a set of instructions on optimal use (Mr Cabral has kindly provided video on usage). E-collars need to be placed firmly at top of neck; behind the ears are "pressure points" (don't they just love it when you scratch them there, but I digress). Trainers will put an E-collar around the owner's arm demonstrating, "see it doesn't hurt", the neck is far more sensitive And at what point do you move on from E-collar? I hadn't taught my hunting dog "come" cue. Took him to a large wooded area he wandered off. In the park there was a German Shepherd did the same; both dogs out of sight. His dog was "trained". He called his dog. Which failed to come. He had to go find her. I called. My dog came. Guess it's "Who's calling? Sounds good. Might be something in it for me (meaning my dog). I'm coming." Like us, dogs don't necessarily respond to name. Cats are tremendously independent. Usually far more independent than dogs. Call. They come. No use of E-collar there :)

We recently got a puppy German Shepard and we have him set up to take obedience class in the middle of December. My wife said the trainer uses the e collar. Does it hurt the pup? I know nothing about the e collar.

(Quote Mr Cabral) "There are many ways you can do this. JUST FOR FUN WE'RE GOING TO USE AN E-COLLAR"? Just for fun we're going to give our dog electric shocks!!!! Please explain how one "gets fun" from electrocuting one's dog when there are alternative methods (you know of) to gain the same obedience.
