What I like about Weins is that he takes effort to travel around Asia and introduce foods that are affordable to common people. Food is his passion, just take a look at this video, he used his hands to eat Nasi Padang, following the custom of the Malays, you can see he loves his job. He is not a food critic, I'm sure he had hits and misses when he's in SG, at most he won't upload those videos, why would he give bad reviews to break someones livelihood? Keep up the good work Mark and Ying, you guys are doing great!!!

I love Nasi Padang! I spent two months traveling through Sumatra, Java and Bali but I came away with a lifetime craving for Nasi Padang. Luckily I live in Los Angeles and there are several good Indonesian restaurants here, some of which serve Padang "style" dishes but it's not the same as the full experience. I keep hoping that one day.... Thank you Mark, as always, for the vicarious thrill.
I just wanted to thank U mark because I have swallowing problem but whenever I watch ur video I can help myself mentally to eat the food! I really wanna thank you, u changed my life. Keep up the good work!

Whatever else I may have learnt from your videos, I have well and truly learnt that when dining in Asia at hawker centres, one must arrive early, or wait in a long queue! It looked delicious!
Food makes me Happy to, nothing like some homecooking to put a smile on your face. Also if theres an older person or someone whos not feeling well take them some little bag of food and watch their face smile.Food and friendship is the best medicine.
I'm just soo proud of being part Indonesian and part Indian and part Saudi and part Moroccan and part Russian .. "I know i'm all over the place but still proud"
Don't be a hater, just because he has money to travel all over the world to try food. Everything he orders has been nothing but the best food in that country. I have try some of dishes that he recommend from Thailand and they are soooooo good. Thanks Mark, love all your videos. Keep up the good work, I will be going to Vietnam, in the end of 2016, Hanoi.....Know a good places to eat? And yeah I did eat with my hands in Thailand too, specially with stick rice dish.

Very place for for Mark I,v been there for lunch with my family.very often when. I go back home to see my family before I got married I used to live nearby only. 15, minutes away they used to had very good market the market gone down because of the. Super market people don,t go there very much thank you for your beautiful video my home town ,
ohhhh i think he is a great critic ... cos unlike other food critics he gives us the chance to guess how the food is ... if his head swings ... its really good ... if he says ahh its awesome ... its average ... but once he comes out of the restaurant ... he always tells how he felt about the food . he is just very polite ... respects the time tht each people take to prepare the food he eats... Ramsay is not to be compared with him .. thats a different level .. and i love both of them for their criticism in adiff level.
For those about to visit Singapore for the first time, Mark has just given you a warning. Small time food stalls tend to take their weekly day off on Mondays after the most hectic workday for them (Sunday). Also I hate it that they stopped using leaf make their ketupat. Although they say they use food safe materials to cook the rice in, I can bet you with that 10 to 15 years from now, someone will come up with findings that there are actually chemicals given off from the heat to give you some sort of cancer causing agent.
Is it really about safety precautions? I think its really just efficiency and maybe cost saving cos those plastic-wrapped ketupat are factory made. My mum and I called it instant ketupat. I find traditional way of making ketupat a pain. My Dad used to make it. Not every malay men and women know how to make it now.
Mark I am super jealous of you right now... Rendang, sambal and satay are three of my absolute favourite dishes... Looks stunning. Seems I'm going to Singapore this year. Thank you for your videos, all excellent and so helpful and entertaining.
Being a Singaporean who loves nasi Padang, man I've never had geylang serai nasi padang, my Fav one is at Stirling road. I'm definitely gonna go try them. Thank you!
Wow awesome, thanks again for the video, i very love those foods you ordered, and tour getting a hundred subscribers, keep up the good work, and good luck to your next destination, and also ying!!
Unbelieveable coincidence. Today was the first time i ever heard of roasted coconut when searching for a Thai Massaman recipe and yet you talk about it in this video.... I never had the chance to taste stink beans. I will if i get the chance though.
i think i need to watch more of your videos because I'm actually impressed at the way you eat with your hands! And the Nasi Padang looks delicious n does the sambal! Maybe I'll just go for it although I can't endure the spiciness. :)
nope. some Indonesian food are just weird for foreign palate and not for everyone. for example : Rujak Cingur, Rawon, Pempek, Kerak Telor. Thats some of them. So nope, you still can go wrong with Indonesian food of course.
padang in sumatra is known as the land of minangkabaus or minangs. rendang and satay are also available in malaysia. the jackfruit curry is made from young jackfruit. you can try the famous jackfruit dish called gudeg whenever you are in yogyakarta.
Hey Mark......Your success in life is being yourself.......Don't change anything trying to please a few disgruntled viewers........Best wishes to you and Ying .................
Hey Mark, at the 9:16 on this video timeline, your camera is actually pointing to a local Restaurant called Hajah Maimunah. They serve awesome range of Malay/Indonesian food. Try a bowl of Siput Sedut when you are there! Also, since you like hot/spicy chilies, maybe you should try Mr Teh Tarik's Nasi Ayam Penyet just to get the kick from their chili condiment.
that "rice cake" is called ketupat or kupat or lontong in indonesia, come to bandung mark there are plenty of spicy foods in here...you're a big fan of chilly right? you will have a great experience here, try to google some of the food such as seblak, rujak, lotek, liwet rice and there are also a lot kind of sambal you should try..more than 20 i believe, hope you'll try it :)
Mark. I'm glad that you enjoyed the malay food. I subscribed to you upon seeing a video of u eating Nasi Padang in Singapore and I'm happy to see that you are enjoying it again. And as always, watching your video at this hour ( midnight) is not a good idea. haha!
Mark, you should fly by to Medan! It's just over and hour flight from Singapore and about two hours from Jakarta! When you do, try our Mie Pansit (Wanton Noodles) and a lot more of glorious cuisines in which you can taste most of them in Selat Panjang and Semarang Street at nighttime.
The compressed rice is called Nasi Ipit. Very common in spore n malaysia. The Sambal Ijo green chillies is the real winner. Dendeng is another. The beef Rendang preparation varies from Indonesia.
Guys, can we just stop the stupid comments about authenticity?! Singapore is known to be a melting pot of different cultures, that is what makes us unique. Mark already explained in his video that Nasi Padang originated from Indonesia. Can we just accept that somewhere along the way, some Indonesians, or Malaysians came over from Indonesia and Malaysia to Singapore and decided to make Singapore their home? Maybe they missed their hometown food, so they cooked it and decided "Hey, why not sell my hometown food to the people here!" But they had to tweak their recipes due to different tastebuds in Singapore, or maybe they couldn't find the exact ingredients in Singapore and found a different one and Singaporeans liked it so they kept it and they passed the recipe on to their children. It's called adapting.
Mark when we go to S pore. We always eat there and go down stair the market to get the best curry powder it is very curry powder and you can the herbs for bah ku teh. As well. Just ask Ying to tight in a bag and put it with the meat when it boil low down the heat for an hour or more full of goodies try it

Factoring their size and portion, prices in Singapore is very similar to prices North America. After watching your videos, you made Thailand and Vietnam one of my priority places to go to in Asia.
Hey Mark, glad to see you're enjoying your trip in Singapore. By the way, that rice cake in the green plastic is actually called 'ketupat'. It's very popular to be served with satay and during the Muslim celebration of 'Hari Raya'. Originally, they are cooked in coconut leaves woven into a diamond shaped little bag. That really adds flavour to it. The plastic diamond shaped bags are more for mass production and convenience. Just thought you shd know. :)

Indonesian authentic satay usually has peanut sauce smothered on it. I am always amazed at how you can eat the satay in one bite. Mad skills. Respect!

+smutpow I cringed when I saw the ketupat packed in plastic. ugh

I find traditional way of making ketupat a pain. My Dad used to make it. Not every malay men and women know how to make it now.

It's called a lot of things in Indonesia, depends on where you are.
Alhambra satay is my fave satay. Always go to the stall whenever i'm at geylang serai. The mutton satay the meat is so tender and juicy.
For a westerner you are very skillful eating with bare hand!!
Finally Mark enjoyed some food in Singapore :)
Mark. I'm glad that you enjoyed the malay food. I subscribed to you upon seeing a video of u eating Nasi Padang in Singapore and I'm happy to see that you are enjoying it again. And as always, watching your video at this hour ( midnight) is not a good idea. haha!

The compressed rice is called Nasi Ipit. Very common in spore n malaysia. The Sambal Ijo green chillies is the real winner. Dendeng is another. The beef Rendang preparation varies from Indonesia.
Mark, u should try Nasi Kapau Uni Lis in Bukittinggi!! The BEST Nasi Padang in the entire world!! 🍛✨🔥
That last part of food plate 😋 looks so delicious m drooling looking at it !! 🤓 Mark thanks for your suggestion at the end 😀.

Bruhhh like have u heard "bali island" located in indonesia? DAMNNN i went there it was the best shit ever
The nasi padang is so tempting. But nothing beats the Indonesian foods deliciousness if you eat it in Indonesia.
Not saying that it's wrong, but please let me add to that very Malaysian/Singaporean POV. The rice cake has many names in Indonesia & Southern Philippines, depends on the locality. It is served with many types of food, not just satay. It is also served in various festive occassions. In Indonesia you will see it on Eid, Christmas, Hindu holidays, & even Chinese New Year.
