Discovering Guthrie's channel a few years back has done wonders for my playing and overall musicianship. My hour long masterclass with him hasn't hurt either. Thank you Guthrie!
I am self-employed, too. You should never feel awkward about making a sales pitch: 1) you have to put food on the table, a roof over your head and have a little fun along the way; 2) you give away so much free information and hard earned experience, the people who watch these videos without a doubt get more than whatever we put in the tip jar or pay for lessons.
Been working on this concept more and more and as I've gotten better I've started visualizing the neck differently and stop just thinking in terms of Pentatonic but more so seeing the chords within the scale. It's a game changer.
Hey Guthrie, I joined up for your class on Artist Works couple days ago. Im 60 and learn slowly, but if I go through this whole lesson. I know I will be better well rounded player in 6 months. Everyone should sign up. There is something about the way you teach that i dig! Im a straight ahead blues player. And want to play more melodic. Udaman Brah. I want to add something. I figured out why I like his lessons more than most. Its like really getting a lesson. I havent had one in 30 years, but i remember its kinda like this. He has a way of perfectly going step by step in perfect order. Like my 3rd day I think. And already platin better. Very slightly but ya. Im not getting anything free or nuthin like that. I dont know GT. Just something different bout these online lessons. Sorry for the spiel as he would say! LOL GC, Boston
Guthrie, its always great to see you play through the changes and see the arpeggios, scales, wicked phrasing, etc..... You have such ability to fill the space man, unreal! Been putting in the work and when you start to be able to see these things all over the fret board, playing is so much more free and melodic and especially more fun and creative. Your help and influence has been huge. Enjoy the pool man, peace
Hi Guthrie, I would so have loved to have known you when I first picked up guitar, you know the road man. So if you want to enjoy your guitar journey support and listen to this guy. Thanks Guthrie love your vibe.
Well Mr Guthrie, the positivity you give away to us might convince me falling off your cliff wouldn't end in a bad landing. Thanks so much for putting all this good vibe out into the world. And man....what you can do on that little Epi....just amazing...there isn't style you apparently can't play....amazing.
Your timing (as usual!) for choice of subject matter is impeccable!! I'm really focused in on triads this past week … used the concept at a jam session Tuesday and it really boosted my confidence up the neck! Now I'll use today's RUclips lesson to tighten down my focus on melodic lines. I also like diving in to your student exchanges on Artist Works to get ideas from your exchanges with your other students, so I'll explore that, too, to find more ideas about triads. Thanks, Guthrie!!
I know I've said this before, but about a year and a half ago I forced myself to sit down and learn some triads, it has really helped me to play up the neck and improvise some stuff, I'm by no means a lead player yet, and I've gotten lazy just focusing on the triads on the e B and G strings, I need to practice more of the other triads. I do incorporate the 7th shape triad on the B G and D string a good bit especially when playing along with someone in the key of E, A, or B. Like Folsom Prison for instance, it's easy to get to that A7 shape after the little solo. I just get lazy sometimes, I need to step it up lol! But it's enjoyable, and like I said it's helped me a lot already to just be able to play something up the neck while playing along with my friends and family.
Great video as always. Had the opportunity to see GT perform last week at the Kitchen Downtown and WOW! I was blown away. Been watching the videos here for a few years but the live performance was outstanding. Great performer and also very personable! Great job Guthrie! Can’t wait to get back to Nashville.
Keep up the great lifestyle work GT. The many benefits are so obvious to see in you. Congratulations. And many thanks for the excellent guitar content!
It would be cool to make a video demonstrating how you use this in improvisation over the changes or in actually writing a solo. Great stuff Guthrie, thank you!
I think of "melodic" playing when I think of CAGED system lead guitar. Then I think hard about all the "great guitar" I've heard and would love to play and it's pretty much "riff" or pentatonic shape based. So, then I ask, "Is this Caged system mostly then for Country and folk?" I'd love to hear your reply. But either way, I'm a big fan and I work on Caged for 15 minutes or so of nearly ever daily practice cuz of your adamant plugging for it. Thanks!
As always Guthrie, it’s a pleasure to watch you. My honeymoon will be in Nashville Halloween weekend. You were the person to influence that and I can’t wait to see you live.
As for the Gibbons scarf: take one corner and roll towards the middle diagonal. Do the same with thd opposite corner. Then twist the whole thing a bunch of times. Finally tie knot and wear it knot facing forward
Man I'm SO excited for the next level for u, you've become more than just a guitar inspiration to me, desperately need to take a 1 on 1 course with u asap!
Your are just killing it, Guthrie. And we are so proud and happy for you. This is a lesson I needed back when I got started. Both my kids want to learn. Unless you let them come stay with you, they'll have to be satisfied with their minor league dad. LOL.
Thank you so much, Guthrie, for all you great free lessons. It's a pleasure just to hear you play. I'm not asking for sympathy, really, but I'm a pensioner and just can't afford your private lessons, but I wish you continued good luck in your business. I agree with Ken Elkins...never feel awkward about it..... But I would like to suggest another possible free lesson for your RUclips 'students,' like me. What is a good practice technique to learn to play melodies while playing chords [interspersing melodies and chords rhythmically...I know about melody notes at the top of the chord...]. I'm talking about being able to play chord progressions and wrapping improvisational solos around them without skipping the beat? I'm sure you know what I mean, even if I can't explain it well....you do it all the time. I love your channel and have passed it on to others and I hope it continues to help grow your presence as a performer around the world. Your sense of humour adds to the charm....great one with your mom and dad, too....... PS. I hope you can get to London one day...... and thanks for the diet tips......it's already helping.... 😎
Love, Gratitude, and Blessings always GT, thank you for the video. Also, hopefully you won't be changing too much in your teaching offerings, as I am really enjoying what's available at artistworks.com and it's really a great value. But I understand also you do need to eat, just hope it will continue to be available at accessible pricing, at least with the pre-recorded teaching side of things. Bless you and all the GT youtube community.
Thanks so much for the inspiration that you provide with your videos! Man that '59 335 is just awesome, unfortunately my bank account isn't backing up my desire to own one of those! And as far as the printer goes....sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Best to you man, love your playing! 👍🎸
Great lesson as always. You know what would be super helpful? If you spoke the chord name as it changes, so we always know what chord you're playing over.
Guthrie, thanks so much for this, and all your lessons. You make it look easier than it really is, but I know it comes from years of experience as a professional musician.
Watch you play and the way you visualise the fretboard and connecting all the dots in such a melodic way is inspiring and frustrating all together :) Thanks for the lessons Do you have a course specifically teaching techniques and practices for playing over chord changes. I am watching the channel and understand I need to know triads and visualise them all over the neck and connect the, with the scale and I learned them but still feell stuck (altough I actually improved)
I just started getting into triads. Been watching you and a couple others most of today. I'm wondering if your Artist Works gives me exercises to do for this? And are the exercises tab out so I don't have to sit and see what you fingers are doing all the time? I do appreciate all you do on here.
Just joined your artist works this week (1 year).excited to start Where I’m from garage sales are on Wednesday and Saturday (not sure why), When shall we expect yours? Thanks
Hey, Guthrie! I also have a 1966 Fender Deluxe Reverb, but unfortunately I A/B'd it against a new Deluxe Reverb (don't remember the speaker, may have had other mods), and the new one was so much better! It felt like it had a wider range and was bouncier or more responsive than the vintage one. My amp speaker is unmarked/unbranded, but might be late 70s CTS. What would you do to improve the amp tone?
Busted lip.... in my head I see a bunch of guys walking up to Guthrie in a dark Nashville alley. To which he says "Howdy friends" then starts throwing down 👊🏻.
Triads for life. The #1 thing I ever learned to open up the fretboard.
Reinforces what I forced myself to do a while back, take the time to learn the triads, helped me a ton!
So simple but I can listen to this all day.
Great video!! You are so awesome!!
This is wild! Two of my guitar heroes in the same place!
Discovering Guthrie's channel a few years back has done wonders for my playing and overall musicianship. My hour long masterclass with him hasn't hurt either. Thank you Guthrie!

Hear, hear! Sell away, Guthrie. You are worth it!
I’d jump on that guitar if I lived in the Usa .. import tax to Ireland is a nite mare . Great lesson .. hang the scarf 🧣 on the wall 😎
Been working on this concept more and more and as I've gotten better I've started visualizing the neck differently and stop just thinking in terms of Pentatonic but more so seeing the chords within the scale. It's a game changer.

Epiphone reminds me of the Gibson ES-125TDC I had circa 1965 - until stolen. Those old P90s on hollow bodies has a great, bell like but full sounds.

The very thing I've been working on..the bottom top end strings ,,great excersize
This is beautiful melody and approach.
Well Mr Guthrie, the positivity you give away to us might convince me falling off your cliff wouldn't end in a bad landing. Thanks so much for putting all this good vibe out into the world. These videos keep getting better. Love it.
I think the "off the cuff stuff" is what we're here for, never stop doing that!
Exactly , my favorite guitarist on Earth .
Yessir! Keep it positive folks good vibes and great guitar guidance from GT and 335.
The triad lessons are always great GT. Thanks!!
Absolutely the best teacher, a professional guitar player showing techniques that the pros use everyday!!! GREAT INFO!!! THANKS GUTHRIE!!!
Looking great! And, as always, sounding great!
Love seeing you adapt all this into your career. You play how you live. Outside the box!

That's one beautiful guitar . Original & best , Thankyou for sharing your time and God given talent . Peace .
Keep up the great lifestyle work GT. The many benefits are so obvious to see in you. Congratulations. And many thanks for the excellent guitar content!
thank you as always Guthrie

Absolutely love your channel and how you teach. Just signed up for your Artistworks instruction. Keep up the great work.
How inspiring! I just started with triads last week and this video popped up! I am going to be working on this much more thanks to you Guthrie! 👍🏼
The only one who teaches triads with musicality...❤❤❤🎸

Very nice!! Thank you👍

Great video lesson sir. When Tomo comments you know you prepared a great lesson🤘🤘✌🖖
"Trapped in these Triads" You gotta love that.
Man I'm SO excited for the next level for u, you've become more than just a guitar inspiration to me, desperately need to take a 1 on 1 course with u asap!
Looking lean Guthrie! Good job
Keep up the great work, Guthrie.
it's a beautiful sound :)
luv me some triad pointers ! Thanks : )
The jam on the Epiphone was phenomenal! I was gettin' some serious Django Reinhardt vibes from those chord changes.
Dude your rippin on that epiphone so reminded me of Barney Kessel! Sweet!
Nashville Tennesseeeeeee!
Yeah man
East Nashville !!!!
Your are just killing it, Guthrie. And we are so proud and happy for you. This is a lesson I needed back when I got started. Both my kids want to learn. Unless you let them come stay with you, they'll have to be satisfied with their minor league dad. LOL.
Purchased a years worth of lessons through Artistworks today. Can't wait to dive in and learn to play some country guitar :)

Reminds me of JS Bach, Cello prelude in G major.
Thanks so much for the inspiration that you provide with your videos! Man that '59 335 is just awesome, unfortunately my bank account isn't backing up my desire to own one of those! And as far as the printer goes....sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Best to you man, love your playing! 👍🎸
This lesson needs to be published in written form.
Very good,,got to connect things
Great fat mellow tone off that Epliphone no charge for mistakes
Great lesson as always. You know what would be super helpful? If you spoke the chord name as it changes, so we always know what chord you're playing over.
#48👍 Dig your stuff, Guthrie!
Guthrie, thanks so much for this, and all your lessons. You make it look easier than it really is, but I know it comes from years of experience as a professional musician.
I'm going to be as fluid as this one day! Hahaha
Watch you play and the way you visualise the fretboard and connecting all the dots in such a melodic way is inspiring and frustrating all together :)
Thanks for the lessons

If all you got was a busted lip I would hate to see the other guy! Love these lessons GT!
Great!
you are an awesome guitar player and I want that epiphone, just cant justify to wife lol, keep on keeping on
He done played all the notes out of the guitar!
its the changing of the chords that throw many of us
Hey Guthrie
Can you demo your G&L Asat guitar.. 😀🙋♂️
Hi Guthrie, huge fan of yours and learned so much from you.
what do you think about john mayer ? i'd love to hear from you about his music.
Maybe you should switch to green tea, dude. 😏
Also I assume your garage sale does not include that '59 335. It's bloody gorgeous.
How much for your blue telecaster that turned green 😉
Great advice for the 1,3,5 and WHAT A STEAL for the Epiphone!! Wish I had that xtra cash. I’d certainly like to have it!
Epi's got great tone.."sorry for all talkin' it's not going to get any better" LOL!! You're pretty funny sometimes!😊😊
Busted lip.... in my head I see a bunch of guys walking up to Guthrie in a dark Nashville alley. To which he says "Howdy friends" then starts throwing down 👊🏻.
6:00
Are you plugged in straight? What amp?
THANKS FOR THE LESSON
Congrats on the scarf from Mr. Gibbons. Wow. Give you cap a break and doo-rag that thing like a welder.
Please tell us what's happening with your gear! It all fell apart at once?
Think that's supposed to be worn as a dew rag. Then you wear the Billy Gibbons toque over it. The new look for GT. Lol!
East!
Beat the dust off that ol Epi caused a 🤧 haha
If Bach were alive today, I think he’d be heading to East Nashville :) great music
4:09
playing like that could sell any guitar .!
I has dug meself in so deep that... HUH?
...i has dug me self in so deep me tootsies is gettin' quite damp
How much for the amp??
Hey man.. $3000
It seems that you are going to buy a Marshall amp and a Jackson guitar with Floyd-Rose bridge instead of this cool Epiphone. Am I right? :)
That’s funny….lol
What kind of coffee you drinking bro
What happened to your lip Guthrie?
Whatever you do, don’t sell the green tele.
Did someone punch you in the face? I’ll come up there if you need help 😀
Coffee is better than getting tuned up by bouncers
