      I'd love to see the 2.3, but for a transverse mount North American spec engine they only larger one they have ready to go is the 2.7 Nano, which I could see being problematic shoehorning into a C2 platform vehicle as it barely fit into the Edge (though the transmission could take it, it's the same used on the Edge ST). On the other hand, keep the 2.0 and swap the rest of the drivetrain with the hybrid out of the Nautilus, and that should fit and get you to the same horsepower as the 2.3 and keep CAFE happy.

      The Corsair is probably running 87 octane. Which only makes 20hp and 30ft-lb more than the 2.0.

    • @ScottAyers-

      @@gsc76 How is the 2.3 not much more powerful than the 2.0? The new 2.0 is 238HP and 277Tq and the 2.3 is 300HP and 310Tq and itis currently in the Explorer. Now put that in a lighter and smaller package and you have a rocket ship that can corner. Not to mention the Focus RS had 350/350 with the 2.3 so this is detuned because we know it can do more. Basically, the Lobo is the cheapest way Ford could "claim" to release a "performance" trim and charge more for a tranny, rear diff, breaks and seats. The Lobo Mode is useless because it's track only, and I don't think anyone is taking this "truck" to the track.

    I usually judge a package by the amount of things I could add after I buy the vehicle. So if the package is wheels and stickers and painting you can always change those things later . This does seem like a well put together package . The transmission,brakes rear end aren't things that are things you can change out after you buy one . I just wish first could have kept the price down in the 20s it's what was extra amazing about the first one . I had a f150 I wasn't particularly impressed with so I'm a little gun shy about getting another Ford . The only upgrade I would like to do without would be the electronics it's all available in the phone in my pocket. Would almost like a model with a double din blank in the dash where you could add your own or not .

    The base price of this car has gone up by 30 percent since it was introduced as a parts-bin price-leader special. This car doesn't start at 20k anymore - they are at 26k. No function has been added, but the cheap model doesn't even exist. I suppose Ford can do this because no one else makes a good small truck for the US market, but I think this whole thing is daft. As daft as the Dark Horse being as expensive as the purpose-built, all aluminum C8. What was supposed to a cheap but cheerful car that brought utility to people who weren't wealthy or subsidizing their truck with business write-offs - has become a 38k parts bin truck with blue speckled pleather and less utility. Although I'm sure that this drives nicely and will find people who love it, the naked, unadulterated upsell is hard to celebrate. It's also a mystery to me that not a single competing company has slapped something together to compete with this - though we do have multiple mid sized trucks that cost 60k.

    I don’t believe that explanation about the transmission one single bit. There is a reason for using it, possibly it makes room for bigger clutch packs…but a computer controlled transmission can skip gears when ever it needs to. Start in second, skip fourth stop up shifting at seventh….there’s no limit to the method nor combination of gear shifting.

  • @ouch1011
    @ouch1011 3 месяца назад

    The transmission difference is likely no more than a software tweak. The 8 “gears” are achieved by just combining different underdrive and overdrive combinations from the multiple planetary gear sets in the transmission, so its very easy to just skip over one (or more) of the combinations. Lots of transmissions already do this during part throttle up shifts and full throttle downshifts, so it’s really nothing novel to do it for a full throttle up shift. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they still use all 8 ratios for part throttle and only skip the 2nd “gear” for full throttle.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  3 месяца назад

      It’s almost entirely a software tweet, apparently there is some sort of hard hardware change inside but it mostly has to do with the valves and the solenoids. All they do is disable second gear, they don’t physically remove it because they can’t as those planetary gear set are used for every other gear as well

    If this is the same transmission, then it is the same weak link - the transmission is rated for LESS torque than the stock engine delivers. That means it has to use sensors and software to limit torque output of your engine so your trans doesn't blow up. You think you have 275ft-lbs? Nope, you got around 240. Oh we are going to skip second? Then torque will be limited even more than before to protect that third gear acting as a tall second. GARBAGE.

  • @Zaonce

    Redundant Maverick with worse performance. You can't sell it as a performance vehicle and compare it's identity with previous year Mavericks. It has -12HP and a redundant 7-Speed.
    Any Mavericks Pre-Lobo that're equipped with the 4k Tow-Package will benefit from it's better gear ratio and actually more performance inclined that whatever this is.
