When Dumbledore said "Lily and James put their faith in the wrong person" he wasn't referring to himself failing to keep them safe, he was saying that they literally put their trust in the wrong person, remember they told Peter Pettigrew and HE sold them to Voldy, Dumbledore wasn't the reason Voldy found them

The movies leave out Dumbledore's correct guesses which may or may not redeem him somewhat in your eyes. Most importantly, he guessed that Voldemort would not be able to kill Harry because V had used Harry's blood to resurrect himself. This meant that Lily's sacrifice now resided in V himself. Oops!
He also guessed that Harry would become obsessed with the Hallows (which he does in the book). Harry realises that the reason Dumbledore made it so difficult was to give Harry time to understand: he was meant to know about the Hallows but not to go seeking them. They were, ultimately, irrelevant.
And he couldn't tell Harry any of this because it would have affected his actions. Harry moved blindly - and therefore correctly - along the path that led not only to Voldemort's downfall but also to his own survival.
Edit to add: as a bonus, because Harry intended to let V kill him, he unwittingly cast the same protective charm as Lily's over the Hogwarts fighters. You don't see it in the movie, but from then on, Voldemort can't get his spells to stick.
As a final wrap-up, Voldemort puts the Sorting Hat on Neville's head and sets it on fire; the Hat responds by giving the Sword to Neville, who promptly kills Nagini with it. The Prophecy could have referred to either Harry or Neville, and that by choosing, Voldemort would "mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not." He chose Harry, but he also handed Neville the weapon to destroy the last Horcrux. In other words, he engineered his own downfall out of his arrogant ignorance.

Idk how no one has mentioned this, unless I missed it! But the resurrection stone doesn’t bring people back from the dead, it’s not how Harry came back. This is one of the reasons dumbledore wouldn’t have told snape or anyone about it. He just gave it to Harry because he knew he would be walking to his death in the end, and he knew a little extra strength from his fallen family members would help Harry. A lot of people don’t remember the story of the deathly hallows mentioning how the brother took his life after bringing his dead lover back, because she wasn’t suited for the living world anymore. I had to read the books to fully understand this and still to this day I look up different peoples theories and reasons for things!
What I’ve found most supported by HP fans is that Harry came back because of Lily’s protection in his blood. It would have expired when he turned 17 if Voldemort didn’t take Harry’s blood in GoF to return to life with his new body. Since Lily’s protection now ran through Voldemort’s veins, Harry’s life was tethered to his!
Someone can correct anything I’m saying if it’s wrong but that’s what I’ve gathered from all the Reddit reading and researching I’ve done lol
Edit: You also may have realized this and not added it in or maybe I missed that too but thought I’d mention it in case you didn’t!

No, you're right. It's explained pretty well in the book by Dumbledore at Kings Cross in the void. And in GOF when Dumbledore finds out how Voldemort came back using Harry's blood, Harry notices a momentary look of triumph appear on Dumbledores face.
The movie makes it too ambiguous on why Harry didn't die. Some people think it's the stone, others think it's because the elder wand wouldn't kill its master. But until you read the books, it's understandable that people don't know the real reason. It's the biggest thing the movies didn't do correctly.

@@travgorin9136 ah that’s right, thank you for confirming! I agree, I have always wondered if they almost purposely made it look like Harry came back using the resurrection stone for the non-book readers if they felt explaining it would be too difficult. Before reading the books I always thought that’s what brought him back! Even after hearing the details of it in the tale of the three brothers, I guess it’s just easier to place the /why/ on a stone made for ‘resurrection’, lol

    Deathly hallows part 2:
Jk Rowling knew there would be 7 books and had the main plot and story lines planned out, as you get towards the end you realise how so many things connect together in the books. For example she knew that Harry would need to lead a large group of people at the end (hence dumbledores army in the fifth film)
    - the patronasus: a doe patronus was Harry's mother's patronus and his father's was a stag. A male and female version of the same animal means you are soulmates. James matured in his seventh year much more and was made head boy while lily was mad head girl. They grew closer and lily and Snape were no longer friends because he called her a mudblood when she tried to help him when James was bullying him. (Scene from fifth film). If a changes to the same as that person's it means that you were either influenced by that person or that you feel deep love for them and that is why Snape's patronus took the same form as lily's. In the end when he asked Harry to look at him and told him that he had his mother's eyes was because he wanted to see lily's eyes one last time before he died.
    - the three deathly hallows each belonged to three brother, like in the story. One was Harry's ancestor (the cloak) and the other voldermorts (the stone which was on voldermorts mother's ring, the ring being turned into a horcrux)
    - when lily sacrificed herself for Harry she protected him, this was the same act that Harry had done for everyone else meaning if he knew that he was going to live after watching Snape's memories no one in hogwarts would be protected by voldermort because he would have done because he knew he would live anyway. That's why he couldn't know.
    - in the books, Snape would never have had the elder wand even if he disarmed dumbledore anyway because they had planned for it and he was doing it so dumbledore wouldn't have to suffer with the curse on his hand, this would mean that the connection would die with him.
    - Harry got rid of the stone as it said that no one would be happy for coming into the mortal world when they were supposed to be dead. And in the books he mends his own wand with the elder wand and places back in dumbledores grave so that no one could truly own it afterwards. Harry kept the cloak to give to his children as it was a family heirloom. If is revealed that the master of death would also be one of the most targeted people, I think Harry had had enough of that 😂
    - Harry and Ginny's children were James Sirius, albus' Severus and lily Luna. Hermione and Ron's were Hugo and rose Granger Weasley. Harry, Ron and Hermione became top auras at the ministry and were on the chocolate frog cards. Ginny became a chaser on a famous quidditch team and Neville became the new herbology professor.
    - for the malfoys, narcissa asked Harry when he laying there if Draco was alive, he very slightly nodded her head and that's why she didn't give him away, she just wanted to protect her son. When voldermort was seeing if Draco would go over to his side, he was waiting for someone to keep him back and him and his family would have just been killed there and then, he didn't have much choice. His father was sent to azkaban where as him and his mother were fine.
    - Remus and tonks had a son named teddy lupin, after tonks' father. Harry was made his godfather. He was a metamorphagus, like tonks meaning he could change his appearance at will to anything.
    - dumbledore and grindlewald: these two met when they were teens and would always get together and were one of the few to find out about the deathly hallows. There constant saying was "for the greater good" however grindlewald for power driven and was then the leader of a war just before voldermort came to his full power. Grindlewald had the elder wand and dumbledore was always adamant that he wouldn't fight him....because he was in love with him. However dumbledore realised what had to be done and in a fight between grindlewald, dumbledore and aberforth, Ariana got in the way and was hit with the killing curse, it is not known who actually killed her. The end battle between dumbledore and grindlewald is probably one of the most famous in the wizarding world. This is how dumbledore came to possess the elder Wand and have grindlewald but in prison.
    Hope this helps :))))

10:41 I've noticed in a lot of reactions that people seem to think that Dumbledore doesn't care about Harry with this line which is completely wrong. When Dumbledore says "Don't tell me now that you've grown to care for the boy" he is alluding to the fact that Snape has shown nothing but contempt towards Harry ever since he started in Hogwarts but now that he is questioning Dumbledores plan about Harry, Snape is revealing that he does in fact care for Harry and this is what Dumbledore is highlighting with that line, the very best of Severus.
Dumbledore is basically saying: "I thought YOU of all people hated the boy but now you've grown to care for him?", not "Harry is expandable, I don't care about him and neither should you." which seems to be how a lot of people interpreted that line.

One thing the movies never explain is that Snape was the one who told Voldemort about the prophecy. He overheard the prophecy, but only half of it. The prophecy was possibly about two wizards that fit the description: Either Harry Potter or Neville Longbottom. Voldemort chose Harry because Harry was a half-blood like him, and turns out, Harry was the chosen one indeed. At the beginning, Snape only begged Dumbledore to hide Lily, and Dumbledore expressed his disgust at Snape, saying: "What about her husband and child? Do you really care only about what you want?". Then, Snape asked for him to hide them all, and that's why Snape turned a spy for Dumbledore. Snape never cared for Harry, but had always loved Lily.

And guess what? Harry is the kind of person who would agree with that and it shows when he names his son after Dumbledore, Harry understood Dumbledore's actions because he would have done the same.
And about the quote "Don’t tell me now that you've grown to care for the boy" it's because Snape openly showed his despise for the Potters, he just loved Lily and Lily only and did the things he did for the love he felt towards her, so it's just logical Dumbledore found his concern like something odd of him

Dumbledore did care for Harry. When he said “don’t tell me now you’ve grown to care for the boy” to Severus it was out of surprise that Snape cared for Harry, it wasn’t referencing his own feelings about him. Dumbledore knew what had to happen, yes, and he did keep it from Harry, sure. But, he knew Harry would learn the truth one way or another, and that he would do the right thing. He didn’t tell Harry *because* he cared about him, and didn’t want the looming shadow of self-sacrifice hanging over him for longer than it had to. Albus trusted and cared about Harry.
Also, I wouldn’t say he was using Harry. Harry had to die no matter what, that could not be changed, but he also had a target painted on his back, and got into most of his predicaments due to his own curiosity. Dumbledore just fostered and aided Harry’s own willingness to fight for good, against Voldemort.
The only thing in my mind that Dumbledore blatantly *used* Harry for was getting Professor Slughorn back at Hogwarts, and subsequently, his memory. But, Albus was pretty clear with Harry that he was indeed using him for that purpose.

I am unsure if you know this but in order of the phoenix there is a chapter in the book that talked about the prophecy. It basically said that the one with the power to vanquish the dark lord was a child born at the end of July, and whose parents escaped voldermort 3 times, but the most important thing about the prophecy is that the dark lord would mark them as his equal. This prophecy was actually about harry and neville since their parents escaped 3 times and they were born a day apart. But it becomes harry's prophecy because Voldemort went after him instead of neville. So in another reality Neville would of been the main character in this story. Also the prophecy was made my the divination teacher Professor Trelawny. This makes the dynamic of the golden and silver trio better to me in which the silver trio was like the yin to the golden trios yang. Ron and Ginny being siblings, Harry and Neville being who the prophecy was about, and then Hermione and Luna (since Luna is like an anti-hermione in which she is more focused on faith while Hermione is focused on logic).

This is what happened in the 19 years since:
Ginny and Harry have 3 kids:
James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna Potter. Also, Harry is the godfather of Teddy Lupin. After graduating Hogwarts, Ginny played professional Quidditch for a few years, until she retired to start her family, and she has since started working for the Daily Prophet in the sports session.
Ron and Hermione have 2 kids: Rose and Hugo.
Draco Marries Astoria Greengrass, a pure-blood. They have a son named Scorpius Malfoy. Draco has since changed his ways, as he doesn’t believe in the whole blood purity thing anymore and neither does his wife. He vows not to be like his father and shows his son love, affection and support. A sad thing is that Draco's wife passed in 2019 due to a long-standing blood curse in her family that caused her body to become fragile, and she knew she would die eventually, and because of that, she pushed to have a child, despite the fact that childbirth was dangerous for her, because she didn't want to Draco be alone after her death.
After the war, McGonagall became Headmistress of Hogwarts and Neville works there as a Herbology Teacher. Neville also married Hannah Habbott, a Hufflepuff, while Luna married Rolf Scamander, the grandson of Newt Scamander (Protagonist of Fantastic Beasts). Umbridge was sentenced to life in Azkaban for her crimes against Muggle-borns.
Kingsley became Minister of Magic after the war, and Harry and Ron never returned to Hogwarts to finish their final year (only Hermione did), and they both became Aurors, and they revolutionized the Ministry, as Harry, Ron, Kingsley, the Weasleys and their allies all pretty much erased all traits of corruption, and Harry became Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Ron later retired to help George with their Joke Shop. If you consider Cursed Child canon (which many of us don't), Hermione later becomes Minister of Magic.
George married Angelina Johnson (the girl Fred asked to the Yule Ball in 4th movie) and their son's named after Fred. In another sad twist, George never became capable of using the Patronus Charm again, as his happiest memories were with Fred. Harry and Dudley remained on civil terms, and exchanged Christmas cards every year. Whenever they were in the neighborhood, Harry and his family visited Dudley and his wife, and while their kids played happily with each other, Harry and Dudley remained in awkward silence.
Harry's aunt, Petunia, passed away in 2020, and in her will, (again, if you consider the Cursed Child canon), she left Harry the blanket that he was wrapped in and brought by Hagrid when he was a baby, a final sign of affection from his aunt.
Ron and Hermione's kids were sorted into Gryffindor, but in a surprising twist, Albus was sorted into Slytherin along with Scorpius, and they quickly became best friends, as Scorpius was nothing like his father at the age, thanks to Draco and Astoria's influence.

The resurrection stone does not work. Or it least it can’t resurrect people. All it does is bring that ghostlike form of your loved ones that died. The whole point of the stone was that the brother killed himself because it didn’t work. But yeah many people get that wrong because of the movie. Harry actually survived because Voldemort used his blood in goblet of fire. Inside that blood was the protection Harry’s mother gave him, making Voldemort unable to kill Harry. Dumbledore also knew this and the he didn’t tell Harry about it is simple too. Because Harry was willing to sacrifice himself for them just like his mother did for him, everyone inside the castle got the same protection against Voldemort he had, making Voldemort unable to harm any of them after that.

Great reaction! One thing I wish this movie did was explain how Harry survived:
    The Deathly Hallows Chapter 35:
“He took my blood, said Harry. “Precisely!” said Dumbledore. “He took your blood and rebuilt his living body with it! Your blood in his veins, Harry, Lilly’s protection inside both of you! He tethered you to life while he lives!”.............”He took your blood believing it would strengthen him. He took into his body a tiny part of the enchantment your mother laid upon you when she died for you. His body keeps her sacrifice alive, and while that enchantment survives, so do you and so does Voldemort’s one last hope for himself.”

The movies never explain for... unknown reasons, but here's what happened between Dumbledore and Abeforth, and it also explains what Abeforth meant by Dumbledore sacrificing his sister. It's quite a long read, but at least you'll learn a lot about Dumbledore:
In his young age, Dumbledore was very different from the man we've seen in the movies/books. While kind and good-natured we've seen him be, Dumbledore was rash and rather adventurous. After his father attacked the Muggles (the movies say he killed them, but that was INCORRECT. Why did he attack them? Because those Muggle kids were harassing Dumbledore's sister, Ariana, and the attack caused her to become mentally and emotionally scarred, and her magical powers were left severely altered and would manifest themselves on rare occasions usually in random or destructive ways.
After graduating Hogwarts, Dumbledore planned to take the traditional "Grand Tour" of the world. However, tragedy ensued on the eve of the departure when his mother, Kendra Dumbledore, was killed by an outburst of Ariana's uncontrollable magic, leaving Dumbledore the head of his own broken family and now in charge of his younger siblings. Dumbledore returned to Godric's Hollow full of bitter resentment at his situation, feeling trapped and wasted, although he refused to let Aberfoth quit school and insisted he complete his education first before taking care of Ariana.
That's when Dumbledore met Gellert Grindelwald. Thrilled to realise that Grindelwald was every bit as brilliant as himself, the two young men took to each other right away and quickly struck up a close friendship, unified by the revelation of Grindelwald's research into the existence and whereabouts of the fabled Deathly Hallows. Dumbledore also quickly became fascinated by Grindelwald's ideas of wizarding domination, obviously considering Grindelwald an unexpected new chance to show his own brilliance and come out of the local misery. Over the course of the two months Grindelwald stayed in Godric's Hollow, the two young men’s friendship became romantic, with Dumbledore ignoring any misgivings he had about Gellert's dark intents by convincing himself the revolution they were planning to embark on was truly "For the Greater Good", and that any harm caused would be repaid a thousandfold after its conclusion.
Aberforth, however, was disgusted with Dumbledore for his plans and concerned over the fact that he and Ariana would have to be dragged along for the ride. Aberforth angrily confronted Dumbledore over his neglect of Ariana over the past few weeks, bluntly telling him that he couldn't carry out his plans with Grindelwald, as he would have to take her with him. This brought Dumbledore back to reality despite not wanting to hear the truth of the words his younger brother shouted at him. Grindelwald, however, was furious with Aberforth's intervention, and used the Cruciatus Curse on him in a fit of anger. Dumbledore moved to defend his brother and a violent duel erupted between the three teenage boys. Ariana herself tried to intervene in the fight, but couldn't due to her erratic abilities, and in the ensuing chaos was hit by a stray curse and died. No one knew whose curse it was that killed her, but Grindelwald fled immediately, as he already had a bad record back home, leaving the devastated Dumbledore and Aberforth behind.
After that, Dumbledore and Abeforth's relationship fell apart, as Abeforth couldn't forgive Dumbledore, and Dumbledore became guilt-ridden and heartbroken at having caused his sister's death. Dumbledore never truly realized who exactly cast the curse that killed Ariana, but always feared that it was his wand. Because of that, Dumbledore realized that he could never be trusted in a position of power. That's why Dumbledore refused the position of Minister of Magic three times, because he didn't trust himself. The only place he ever felt comfortable at, was at Hogwarts. He returned to the school and became the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, before being promoted to Transfiguration Teacher, before finally becoming Headmaster.

McGonnagall actress, Maggie Smith was undergoing chemotherapy at the time and was really tired, but she maintained her presence on the set and kept the role like a boss and a true professionnal, she's as bad ass as the character.
McGonagall was a powerful Griffindor witch and even plyaed on the Quidditch team, she's an accomplished sport player as well as having learnt her transfiguration skills with none other than the best: Albus Dumbledore himself.
Snape could have had nasty surprises up his sleave had he not pledged himself to Dumbledore and acted like a villain to ensure Dumbledore's plan to unfold, so naturally he wasn't to oppose strong resistance to McGonnagall who didn't know. (less people know about a secret, the better... even if you have to keep your most trusted people in the dark)
Slytherin are supposed to be cunning, not necessarily smart... Cunning in the sense of sneaky bastards. Cunning to be in reach of power positions or connexions. And we know that power thirsty individuals won't necessary take the right decisions about some things more complicated. Voldemort was kinda Smart but his hubris was ultimately his undoing.
Hate is not the opposite of love, it is indifference. Hating Harry meant he cared... but was angry about himself caring.
Of course Dumbledore was using Harry as a pawn in a game of chess, it was the only options that circumstances and Voldemort's recklessness and fear left... the ONLY plan that could work. Do you think Dumbledore didn't know what it meant? All of this because Voldemort believed a stupid prophecy that fullfilled itself because of his own hubris and fear of death. Ultimately it was all Voldemort's fault.
Dumbledore not explaining things through, is also part of the plan to avoid Harry being distracted by another objective, everything comes in due time.
Resurrection stone doesn't work as a resurrection stone. It just calls back the echo of your dead loved ones so they can guide you peacefully through the process of dying, nothing more. The legend blew up as a magical artifact to resurrect people when it wasn't.
Dumbledore gambled that Harry might have a small chance of getting through it and come back but he had no insurance that it was gonna work. As far as he knew, Harry was gonna die. Lilly's sacrifice and Voldemort stealing that protection for himself meant that Harry's blood was still around while Harry was killed. And not defending himself meant also that the Horcrux took part of the damage from the attack. Beyond that Dumbledore was just speculating on the outcome for Harry and it also laid on Harry's shoulders to decide to live or not, ultimately.
That's why making a Horcrux out of a living thing with independant thinking is not a good idea... You never know how that being is gonna react or if that being might turn against you at some point...

  • @HygorBH
    @HygorBH 3 года назад

You might be confused as how Harry was able to come back from Limbo. Well, remember in the Goblet of Fire, how Voldemort used Harry's blood to resurrect himself? He took in a part of Lily's sacrifice and therefore kept said sacrifice alive as long as Voldemort lived. Harry was anchoring Voldemort to life by being a pseudo-Horcrux, whereas Voldemort was anchoring Harry to life with Lily's sacrifice.
In Rowling's own words: "Having taken Harry's blood into himself, Voldemort is keeping alive Lily's protective power over Harry - except that the power of Lily's sacrifice is a positive force that not only continues to tether Harry to life, but gives Voldemort himself one last chance ... Voldemort has unwittingly put a few drops of goodness back inside himself; if he had repented, he could have been healed more deeply than anyone would have supposed. But of course, he refused to feel remorse." (Feeling genuine remorse would have put his soul back together.)
"Also, since Voldemort is using the Elder wand, which actually belongs to Harry, neither the Cruciatus nor the killing curse works properly. "The Avada Kedavra curse, however, is so powerful that it does hurt Harry, and also succeeds in killing the part of him that is not truly him, in other words, the fragment of Voldemort's own soul that is still clinging to his. The curse also disables Harry severely enough that he could have succumbed to death if he had chosen that path."
What Harry also did by sacrificing himself in the forest is that he gave all of his friends the same magical protection his mother gave him. The books show that none of Voldemort's spells were binding.

It was very fun and enjoyable to be with ur journey in watching the whole hp movies and it’s kinda sad how the movies don’t get much details from the books and you should definitely read the books someday! And I don’t know if you already watched these or won’t watch these but here are some movie recommendations:the maze runner, the hunger games, narnia.anyways I loved ur movie reactions hope to see more !!

In the book, Voldemort just falls over dead like a normal ass loser, which IMO is a more fitting and ignominious end for him than getting dusted.

Cinema Sins: being put into slytherin means you're a bad kid (kinda harsh if you ask me)
    Harry: not slytherin not slytherin
plus being in slytherin Kinda makes one of the kids the heir to slytherin meaning they could unleash another monster on the school again

dumbledore has always liked games and goofy side the books show that in his welcome speechs each year.
the same time he knows what he is doing and if he tells harry to just do this do that he could be a different person.. he wants harry to work it all out for himself because one he is still a teacher and two he wanted harry goals to been set on the horcruxes for a reason.. only someone who is not looking for the power and greed will be the true worthy master of the deathly hallows.. Dumbledore sort after that in his youth and blames himself for Ariannas death so he makes sure he doesn't try to overstep the power again and why he always rejects the offers to be the minister of magic because he doesn't trust himself. he wants the students to make their own mistakes but at the same time he wants to lead them to make the right choices

I knew you'd feel bad about Snape, and knew you'd assume the resurrection stone would be the reason Harry lives. Everyone who reacts to these movies does those two things, it seems. Shows they did a good job with Snape's story, but not so good of a job explaining why Harry lived. Harry survived Voldimort's killing curse because Voldimort has Harry's blood in him, keeping Lily's protection on him going.
Dumbledor is not at fault for Voldimort. When he brought Voldimort into the magical world, he didn't know he'd turn out to be so bad. Lots of students would lash out like he did and turned out to be fine wizards and witches later on. The talking to snakes thing was unusual, but not an evil trait. Really, it's only Voldimort who is to blame for his own existence as an evil wizard.
I love that this movie humanizes Dumbledor at last. All the other movies just show him to be a very powerful, and very wise wizard who seems to always know what's going on and how to deal with it. The Deathly Hallows revealed him finally to be flawed, just like everyone else. He didn't just think of Harry as a pawn, though. He cared for Harry and knew that things would turn out okay. He played everyone like chess pieces because that's what needed to be done in order to win against Voldimort. In a way, Dumbledor trusted Harry every bit as much as Harry trusted Dumbledor.
Snape is, in my opinion, the true hero of the story. He died hated by everyone, not even knowing Dumbledor's full plan, all to make sure that Harry wins in the end. He didn't even get to know that Harry would live through Voldimort killing him because Harry couldn't know that part of the plan. If he did, then it wouldn't really be Harry choosing to die and the plan wouldn't have worked. Harry had to accept death and Voldimort had to be the one to kill him.
...I kind of wonder what you thought of the line "of course this is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" In my opinion, the best line of the movie and shows for sure that's really Dumbledor.

dope reaction!! You should read the books they're really good (most popular fiction series of all time literally) or audiobooks if you prefer those instead.
