As a kid i thought this song was kooky and pacified my mom by playing it for her. My dad loved more traditional classics, Chopin, Schubert, Beethoven, Debussy which were of course beautiful and amazing. My mom came from left field with this one. I pondered as a kid but now I'm older I appreciate her taste on this more. Agreed it needs to be played a certain way to convey it's intriguing layers

I'd love to hear an orchestral version of this piece... I think it would make sense, in this case

@@AndewMole yes! Well, I've a couple ideas for the beginning of the first movement: maybe it would be nice to begin with brass for the first chords (and maybe other sections doubling some lines as well, I don't know...) and when those chords finish, violins could play the following phrase, and the rest of the strings (and maybe some woods and/or brass) playing the chords of the left hand, and some snare drum rolls to emphasise a bit the accents and strong beats.
And maybe the B section could be played by strings and woods, making it more dolce?... Well, there are several options for that part

Oh Gosh! Despite knowing he exists & I/my music was often compared to his when I was still doing soundcloud, this is the 1st time I'm actually hearing any of his piece and I want to feel so flattered but I know I'm never near his level so I'll just laugh silently while pinching myself... BUT GOD!!! HE'S RAD!!! I'll try to learn this. How exciting!

It's nice, but played without soul, like this: sound flat and hollow. With a better interpretation we would all have to gain. And ok, arranged for orchestra would be a good idea because just like that it's dry and a bit empty.

I was about to say, the 3rd movement of this sonatine is usually my favorite piece to hear, but here's it loses that sense of joy and excitement that comes out of a good performance. It's the light after the sorrow of movement 2. the Hope for the future.
but it's fine for just showing the technical basis on which the music is built i guess

3rd mvt is much too fast. You cannot hear the triplet figures that make this piece so "Kabalevsky"

I've been working on the 1st movement recently. Is it supposed to be played as fast as many people do? By playing at their tempos, they lose sight of the intricate things going on in the music.
