CONJECTURE ONLY: Once the helicopter pilot acknowledged the tower that they saw the jet (the one taking off, not the one landing), said pilot felt safe in increasing altitude and it cost the lives of 67 people. I firmly believe the pilot of the helicopter should have maintained his allotted 200 foot altitude thus avoiding the deadly collision.

The controller could have and now, in retrospect, should have been more specific about the airplane he pointed out. He could have said to look for the plane approaching runway 33. The helo pilot would never have mistaken that instructions the plane just taking off. I still can’t really believe he thought the tower was talking about the guy taking off. • @jeffropenn
    @jeffropenn День назад +3

When watching the incident video, there’s also an aircraft behind the the jet that the helo collided with. Maybe the helo crew was focusing on it? It’s also known that flying in that airspace at night, the city lights and aircraft lights have a tendency to blend together.
One thing that stood out to me when studying the recorded flight data of both aircraft, the helo altitude increased from the required 200ft, to 300ft at the time of the collision. The regional jet altitude also decreased from 400ft to 300ft at the time of impact. I looked at airspace map for Reagan and saw the helo route and its max altitude of 200ft. Once the route gets south of Reagan, the altitude note in creases to 300 ft. Maybe the helo pilot increased altitude too soon? Maybe the regional jet pilot descended too low on the flight profile? Regardless, a terrible situation.

I think it's interesting how everyone is trying to shift blame and traffic control tower when clearly the military plane was out of compliance by being 200 ft over the airspace they were supposed to be in.
This ex-pilot said usually traffic control would say "xxx taking off from runway #xxx" but according to the reading we initially heard there was no mention of a runway which means they were not talking about the other airplane.
Third, aren't military helicopters equipped with radar that shows you everything moving in its circumference? So even with night goggles on if they didn't physically see the plane they hit notification systems on the helicopter would have let them know.
I swear the more I hear on this incident the more it sounds deliberate and like their mission was to ensure someone did not land in DC.
My heart goes out to those who lost their life but America is known for sacrificing their own to protect homeland security.
Plus the numbers of people aboard the airplane keep changing. First they said 100 people. Now they are saying 67. Other news sources say 40 something people. What happened to the other 33 people. I'm with another commenter, release all the names of those who boarded that flight. Something seems fishy here.

I had personally already listened to atc communications and watched videos of the collision before major news had even come to terms with qhat had happened... comparing communications in real time with multiple videos on scene, its seems very likely it was a tragic case of misidentification on the part of the helicopter pilot. All that is really left to be known know is what may have caused this misidentification in real time.

Helicopters shouldn't be anywhere near airport runways , period !!!!
    This is why
This helicopter went wrong direction, was spose to go other way, not sure what they waited for before not turning for 14 miles

Wasn't the heli on a training flight? The heli crew effed up. The US Army has some explaining to do. One thing is certain, no me helicopters to be anywhere near passenger planes.

They had a hard limit of 200ft altitude.
The heilo pilot is the cause hands down. They collided at 350ft...
    WAY above the limit.
Now. Was it pilot error, or an act of terrorism. 😮

I think the plane was told to bare left to land so he was going the right way and the helicopter was supposed to be underneath and coming through behind the helicopter so I seen the video and from things said its the helicopter that hit the plane so I still don't understand how the plane hit the chopper. Im confused too jamal hopefully we will get the truth of it eventually and especially for the families sake ❤❤❤❤
