    I had the Steeda closed box CAI. I tracked it recently and it went down hill fast. Car would throw error messages and then go into Limp Mode. Finally, we looked at the MAF sensor and it was covered with oil. We cleaned the MAF sensor and that did the trick. I also banged the oiled high-flow air filter against a wall and saw a load of rusty fine particles drop to the ground. I went to Lund to update my tunes and they told me that they highly recommend I either use the Steeda plastic air restrictor insert or return the car to the stock CAI. I decided to reinstall the factory CAI, remove the stock box carbon filter insert, and use a dry paper air filter. Car is running like a champ.

    • @blackgt19
      @blackgt19 3 года назад +1

      Damn that's crazy. Does a stock air box with a aftermarket drop in air filter and a tune peform the same as a steeda intake for the gen 3s?

    • @markboen
      @markboen 3 года назад +1

      @@blackgt19 I never used the Steeda insert, which helps with turbulence, but restricts the airflow. I just had too many issues with the Steeda --- and the factory airbox, minus the carbon filter, performed just as strong. I recently purchased the Corsa dry closed. Being N/A, I hope to see a small improvement.

    Just curious Gold Pony, why did you choose Steeda (Tuning by James) for your 18+ GT? I think Steeda makes really safe and reliable tunes, but I’m just curious why you chose them over other tuners (Lund, PBD, AED, etc.). Trying to make a decision myself. How have you liked the Steeda tune long term? Any issues?

      Steeda makes good tunes, I’ve had their tune on my 14’ Focus ST and it was spot on with zero issues or drivability and I also had it on my 14’ Mustang 3.7 with zero issues also, I don’t have any experience with the newer Mustangs but my past experiences were great. I went with the Ford power pack 2 on my 17 and it’s also been great. Don’t completely avoid a tune just because one person had an issue. Just my .02

    Nothing but bling .... the Mustang community is getting smart to the whole CAI scam. The added HP, if any, is from the tune and nothing else. But, if you like $400 for black plastic bling, have at it.

      @@loanshark99 the stock air box works very well, throw a K&N filter in the box if you really want to. All a Cai is going to give you is a little more noise. At 430ish whp, you're not going to notice a difference with a tune on the street. There are better things to spend your money on, in my opinion. I'm not touching my powertrain warranty. So I've done a cat-back exhaust. Ordered some steeda progressive lowering springs, a short shifter, clutch spring, track pack spoiler to replace the ugly pp1 spoiler. I'll put anti wheel hop kit on and the rest will continue to be cosmetic. Keep in mind, I'm never going to track mine. If your goals are different than build accordingly. Just remember, you can have all the power is the world, but if you can't get the grip to put it to pavement, then it really doesn't matter does it?

    This is B.S. For one thing, when you have more than 400 hp under the hood, your not going to really notice 30 more hp. Its gonna feel the same. Also, the steeda filter used the same air cleaner box as the old one, just the hose changed, which by the way, looked just like the stock hose, so how could it be much different? Sorry, I ain't biting on this one. A K&N filter would probably work better, or just as good, and you probably wouldn't have to reprogram the cars computer.

      Paul Knauf
      I’m with you 100%. I had a PMAS intake on my 2016gt with a 93 tune from Lund. Ended up switching back to stock air box and a k&n filter. I dyno both setups and the stock box w/k&n gave me only 3 LESS hp and the same tq, so these “cold air intakes” are not worth it at all...

    • @donfinkey692
      @donfinkey692 5 лет назад +2

      It looks like the tube diameter is a bit bigger allowing a little bit more air flow, maybe.....
      I agree, it’s not worth the $ considering the cost of the tuner as well.

    • @modaddiction7485
      @modaddiction7485 5 лет назад +1

      100% they are not worth the money. They don’t make any more power. Even open air JLTs. The only time they make more power is with hood open same power when closed. Even with the hood open it’s only 7hp and no one drives with their hood open :)

    • @KlipschHead281
      @KlipschHead281 5 лет назад +2

      121mm, sure yeah it's the same diameter, listen Paul Knauf, you know nothing about this box and yet pontificating as if you do. Peoples butt dyno probably won't notice 30hp but they will notice better throttle response, transmission tweaks etc, the box has an insert to help drivability because of that 121mm size which requires a tune and no the tube won't fit the original lid. So sure, continue telling us how this box would work no better than a K&N filter. Combine this with corn and the car will easily go 4 tenths or more faster. IAT's are better due to being a closed box.

    • @madmotorhead9425
      @madmotorhead9425 5 лет назад +2

      Without the insert the size of the tube is 130mm . Granted it is rune required but the combination works.
