Wow what a player! Christian Cullen may be my favourite player to watch in our Rugby journey so far. Really caught me by surprise after reading the description of what a fullback does. Does anyone else compare to him in current day Rugby? Apologies for all the pauses in this one! Had a lot of questions and comments throughout.

CC is the best fullback ever! As a South African, we would shit in our pants when he got the ball but would celebrate his genius as if he was our own!
Wow that's high praise. I loved watching him play. His running style was so smooth and he had crazy acceleration. As a full back myself I always wanted to play like Cullen, but the thing I can't understand is how easily he could get himself next to the ball when there was a turn over. He'd just pop up out of nowhere, it has to be to do with his acceleration I guess.
Aye.
Same. South African, but no one has come close, but their Will Jordan will come close if not better in time.
@@TheMarathonomahos WJ certainly looks on track to become one of the greats. Unfortunately I don't get to watch enough of him but I know his reputation. The few games I've seen him play, he's definitely class but for me, I don't fear him like I feared CC. He's still young though with many years ahead so maybe that will change 😉🎉👍
Cullen played his last test at 27 because he was dropped from the squad by quite possibly the worst All Blacks coach of all time, John Mitchell.
Edit: I should add that this happened when Cullen was the All Blacks' top all-time try scorer, having passed Jeff Wilson.
I was at Twickenham in 1999 when Mitchell put the greatest ever fullback (CC) in at outside centre...and the AB's lost to France. I'm English, married to a Kiwi and CC is the reason I've been a 'canes supporter since before I ever stepped foot in the country.
Aye. Mitchell👎.
God It still cuts me deep. I hate Mitchell.
Yeah Mitchell didn't like "show offs" that stood out. I think he saw Cullen as not a team player, that didn't pass the ball enough and got too many individual tries! Cullen was a tall poppy that had to be cut down to size in his mind I think. Probably reminded him of his own mediocrity. Instead he preferring hard workers that put their head down in the middle of the forward pack that no one noticed . So he got rid of one of our best players ever! One of the most stupid sporting selection decisions in sporting history. Other rugby nations must have been stoked! I still haven't got over it! lol
Hart must be in the ring too…!
As a South African he made me very nervous. A real Magician. Loved watching him when he wasn’t playing against us. Would be in my top 10 rugby players of all time.
Annoying thing is there is no really good RUclips clips around that show how REALLY good he was. One of the best Fullbacks ever. Moved like lightning ... could slice through a defensive line with ease ... could score from ANYWHERE on the field ... and a solid defensive player. On his very first match for the All Blacks, he scored 3 ties against Samoa ... then the following match he scored 4 tries against Scotland. He has retired from Rugby for a while, yet he STILL is number 10 equal for international test try scorer of all time (46 tries from 58 games).
What I remember about was apparently how strong he was. In the Hurricanes weight training room, he was one of the strongest for bench pressing ... out lifting a lot of the Forwards.
So sad, he got shafted by John Mitchell.
Absolute legend.
I lived and worked in Hong Kong from 1994 to 1999 and was lucky enough to see both a young Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen make their 7s debuts in 1994 and 1996 respectively. Most impressive players I have ever seen live and what an impactful start they both made to their careers on that stage. There have been other attacking full backs over the years, such as JPR Williams, Gavin Hastings, Serge Blanco, Jason Robinson and Stuart Hogg, to name a few off the top of my head. But nobody did like Cullen as far as I am concerned. He was a very special player.
Ask any New Zealander old enough to have seen him play during that era who the best full back of all time is and everyone will tell you Christian Cullen, he was a freak, pound for pound he was the strongest all black ever, 84kg and could bench 145kg, great acceleration but a real magician at running into space at the right time. He would be the first name on the team sheet every damn time. John Mitchell is a household name in Nz for all the wrong reasons because of what he did to Cullen.
There was no one like him beforehand and we have not seen anyone close ever since. As a boy born in the early to mid 90s everyone wanted to be CC when they stepped on the field and we will always remember him forever as the greatest player in his position, even if he was cut short by an absolute munter of a coach
"Pie Cock A Ree Kee" express. A slim, unimposing guy whose upper body strength made the big forwards impressed. Christian's strength was in explosively fast acceleration from standing still. As a winger he liked to score, brushing off weak tackles, accelerating, weaving and scoring.. He was fast, deceptive, strong and simply gone in a blink of the eye, a classy glide to the try line.
A great All Black!
The greatest player I ever saw. He was on another level.
Cully is our all time favourite and he gave us Kiwis much joy. Until he got unfairly axed. Paekakariki is a small beach side village with a big rail station and express trains that run through it. Very insightful of you to compare with Gareth Edwards the Welsh halfback of the 1970s. I find Cullens style very similar. The Welsh had some amazing players in that era including Gerald Davies and Phil Bennett. I use both Bennett and Cullen to show my daughter how to defeat people at a distance for her field hockey. What makes his tries special also is that alot of those were during test matches. Tests are not like games, They are often more like a war. Especially against South Africa.
I spent 2 days in Pie Cock, the Bowling Club was a blast especially on the kareoke night.
As a South African we loved to hate Cullen. He could dismantle your defense and make you look like a nothing team. For me he is and has been the best Fullback(no 15) to ever grace the field. True legend of the game. Would have broken more records if he was not done in with the NZ coach of the time.
Some other All Blacks you may want to look at is Ma'a Nonu, Dan Carter, Ritchie McCaw.
Gave us Bokke fans hell. McCaw's highlights may not look so flashy but he is probably the most influential player in my lifetime if not of all time.
Oh and Jerry Collins was massive too. Had a good rivalry with Schalk Burger but they were mates off the field.
Def watch Jerry Collins. He was a phenomenal man on and off field
Watch Jonah Lomu too
Collins vs burger is what rugby is about, beating the living day lights out of each other for 80 mins just to have a beer n a laugh afterwards
I have great respect for Grant Fox as a fullback; AN EXCELLENT KICKER.
@@brianwhetton9621 He was a first five eight aka fly half
Hand signal is because the mascot is Captain Hurricane
I'm still gonna need an explanation haha.
The mascot of the Wellington Hurricane, Christian Cullens' home team he played for.
It's a military salute.
@@EamonnReacts Captain Hurricane was the mascot of Cullen's professional club 'The Hurricanes' - he was a military pilot caricature. So that was Cullen saluting him!
@@EamonnReacts There were a few Hurricanes in the All Blacks at that time, notably Cullen, Umaga, and Lomu, the Hurricane salute got a lot of use!
All Black teams use the fullback as an attacking player, they still have defensive duties, but particularly in this time period, the All Blacks were fitter and faster than the competition. Unfortunately Rugby has become defense orientated again, the South Africans have taken it to the extreme (successfully).
As good as Cully was, I'm not sure if he'd survive in today's game, which is a damn shame cos he was freakishly talented, and a decent bloke too.
The Australians were astonished when he wasn't picked for the All Blacks, they called him "Jet Boots".
my favorite player. Back three of Cullen, Wilson and Lomu, pretty special. Wilson was considered by many to be the best player of the three.
Cullen, Howlett, Lomu for me, Colin.
They were excellent players but as a combination they never really won anything. Wilson was a seagull who couldn't tackle , Lomu couldn't defend in behind and Cullen was the worst positional fullback going around.
Yeah that's one thing I was noticing. It seems all these greats played but didn't seem to win the major championships together for whatever reason.
Thank you for pointing out those flaws to their game, however, I will have to respectfully disagree as to level of those flaws. It was only their exceptional ability at the other tasks their position required of them that made them great. I personally think, as a spectacle, Lomu and Cullen were the greatest proponents of their positions ever. Yes, Lomu had a little difficulty turning around, but when he touched the ball everyone stood up to see what was about to happen next. I've never seen such a balanced and effortless runner as Christian Cullen. His ability to read a defensive line and time his run was unrivalled, and as many South African commenters have stated, the opposition would have been sh*****g their pants. Yes they had a flaw, but their attacking abilities more than compensated for them. What rugby player has their ability and no flaws? The only full back I can think of who had no flaws was Mils Muliaina, but was more of a Jack of all trades rather than the excitement machines of Lomu and Cullen. @@troyocarroll

Not nothing mate
I gotta say , when i saw some of these compilations of Christian Cullen , it imediately showed me , he was the best . its a wow factor ! & a lot of these games were from early super rugby & test matches ....... I can remember the times that these games were played just not long after it turned proffesional. Cully was the best ever & i'm a Crusaders supporter .
ps: the Crusaders is all about a succesful team ( which is worth watching the history) , Youv e got a great grasp of the game Eamon , awesome man ! best wishes John H
The last plaxer who legitimately could go the length of the field for a try..
The Barbarians rugby team is an invitational team that is brought together to play touring international sides. It has a history as a club in Britain, but is known now as an invitational team where some of the best players from around the world get together to play mostly tier one international sides, such as the Six Nations sides and the SANZAR sides, usually in a one-off game. I love this traditional little quirk of the fantastic game of rugby.
Christian Cullen was the greatest running fullback of all time and im glad I got to see him in his prime! Its easy to forget we had Cullen, Lomu ,Wilson and Umanga all in the same team in the 90's!
I played against him at high school. He was a silky smooth runner of the ball then too.
This man was pure skill, I don't have to watch the video to even comment. I'm watching though. He made a try that Lomu scored, he handled the ball twice in that once phase, pure magic!
In my opinion Christian was the finest attacking full back who ever played the game. A supremely talented athlete. Almost 'born to be a 15.' His try record was eventually beaten by Dougie Howlett. Both men were seriously fast and elusive sprinters. Ironically both went on to play for Munster. Cullen at full-back and Howlett 'winging' it were extremely "hard to suppress".🏴☠☘
I still remember the Hong Kong Sevens when he completely overshadowed Lomu with the amount of tries he got. Still 3rd in top All Blacks try scorers with only Julian Savea also 46 but less tests and Doug Howlett 49. In the current team only Rieko Ioane 36 and Will Jordan 31 have a chance of overtaking them.
Aye, me too bro.
I loved watching him play 7s with Jonah and Rushy he was pure silk with all that space stepping the whole backline defense with only his left foot lol met him once he was really quiet and I was lucky enough to shake his hand
So in Rugby, every position has attacking and defensive duties.
Cullen was amazing, recognized as one of the best full backs of all time - what made him great was the combination of speed, agility, skill and anticipation - not many have the mix and balance he had.
Generally the Wingers (11/14) will score most tries (the generally look to finish off moves), full backs score plenty too.
The most prolific try scoring players generally have a ration of around 1 try per game over and extended period - that's considered great. So five in one game is phenomenal (two or three is great).
New Zealand (the All Blacks) play Australia and South Africa a lot (the annual competition for these teams is against each other (and now Argentina).
I think fullback is built as a running kicking and playmaking position It was rare to have guys with all atributes back then , Cullen wasnt known for kicking but he did great when he did
There is a similarity between the try scored by Welshman, Gareth Edwards during that Barbarians v All Blacks game from the 70's, and the tries scored by Christian Cullen. However, while the two are backs, Edwards was a 9, while Cullen was mostly a 15. You are right in speculating that a 15 is a safety. Traditionally, with NZ rugby the 15 would have to be a solid tackler and have the ability to retrieve the ball and kick it out, and kick goals. They were used only as an attacking option in limited ways. Over time, the role of the fullback started to become that of an extra winger (speed-based try scorer) and they had to have the skills as mentioned, but also be fast and able to score in ways reminiscent of a winger. Cullen is the embodiment of this NZ evolution of the game. You are right in thinking NZ fullbacks have traditionally been bar-room brawler types. One of the most famous such was Fergie McCormick, who once said that any player who cut back inside deserved a stiff-arm tackle. When it comes to players 'moving up', the career of Cullen mostly meshes with the professional era. As an All Black, he was at the pinnacle of sporting achievement in NZ. These days, players going after more money or who are in the twilight of their careers, generally go to Europe or Japan. In days gone by, they may have moved over to Rugby League, usually in Australia, but also in the North of England.
Christian Cullen is a Samoan Kiwi from Paraparaumu. One of the best All Blacks fullbacks who ever play the game.
Ngai Tahu actually.
@@titahibayflier3160 True I didn't know he was also Tangata Whenua
@titahibayflier3160 I dont know mate apparently he's 1/64 maori.....think he had a bigger ancestral route to play gor Samoa..
what people don't realise is, not only was he very quick, but, he was also very strong, he could bench press as much as the front row forwards, he was a freak for such a small ( in rugby terms ) player, the best " back " to ever don a pair of rugby boots, followed closely by Jonah Lomu.
There has never been a player like Christian Cullen before or since. Cannot give you a name to compare.
brody lol
Rupeni
he looks for the gap in the defense and stays on that line behind the ball carrier to give them enough time to pass the ball. With everything timed perfectly he will begin to accelerate and punches onto the ball to split the defense.
There is a team mate running outside of Christen that the outside defense is marking so Christen will speed up just behind the defender always showing the ball as if to pass it to his running mate keeping the defender out as he tucks in behind him and passed his own defender with blistering speed - splitting the defense
It was his acceleration that was so deadly, 2 or 3 steps and he is at full speed, it is pretty hard to defend that when he is able to position himself in gaps. He was also super dependable in defence which was an added bonus. There have been plenty of good offensive Fullbacks before, it is a common tactic, but usually it is a trade off, those players who are good in offence are generally weaker in defence so to pull it off the wings and centres have to cover for them. Cullen was one of the first who was very good at both and at that time NZ had probably the three best players in the world for each position in fact there were two other legendary full backs at least in these clips playing with him Geoff Wilson and Glen Osbourne.
This is according to what I've seen in his gameplay. A full back will usually join the line on attack to cause an overlap. An overlap is when the attacking team has on more player in the line than the defence. This usually results in the wing scoring because there is one more player in offence. With Christain though, he would take on the defence and often break the defence and score. It made it very difficult for the opponents to setup a proper defence when he joined the line.
Cullen! My favourite player ever! He was also strong.
Fullbacks generally don’t score as many tries as say the wings but Cullen could run and side step from anywhere.
He was fearless under the high ball too.
Feel lucky to have seen him play.
My greatest rugby player ever lol played for our local rugby club Porirua RFC as did Lomu they were great to watch at the time Cullen was a genius !
Nice video man! Cullen is one of the GOAT players; definitely the GOAT fullback and also my favourite player of all time. FYI, Cheslin Kolbe has played wing, fullback and even fly-half for his clubs and is also a goal kicker (has kicked goals for the Springboks as well) and on top of that, he sometimes covers the scrum-half position for the Boks when they do a 7-1 bench split.
As a South African, I'd suggest you react to Andrew Mertens next. The man we loved to hate. I'm sure there is a couple of NZ's out there that would support me in saying the man was pretty entertaining. Well if you won... LUL
Cullens superpower was the way he could swerve at speed while staying so stable and strong. It’s a bit like how strong and quick Messi is with the ball in soccer. In terms of other fullbacks I think the most similar to him since was prime Israel Dagg
Respects to Cullen! From a Canes/Lions follower. 2nd attempt with Pie-Ka-Ka-Ree-Kee pretty decent. NZ 🇳🇿
An amazing player who like a lot of unsung heroes just seemed to glide along and leaving opposition in his wake.
Im 63 , CC is the best player I've ever seen
He was the best there has ever been for me an Englishman and avid ruby fan, others come close Jonah and Dan three of the best and all a class above damn all blacks, love them really till they play us but to watch wow is all
Christian C First burst on the scene in the Hung Kong 7's then progressed through the 15s game.
The unique action to his running, wasn't just his blistering speed. But when he swerved or side stepped ( you guys call it duking) he never lost pace, were as 99% of players lose some speed with directional changes.
He was relatively small , maybe 5'9 and 83-85 kgs but he could bench press 160kgs bettering all of the bigger forwards I think barring 1.
Cheers Eamonn

As a south african - Cullen is arguably the best attacking full back ever. Hate him agaist the springboks. Loved to watch him play..still catching myself ewatching videos of him in his highlights videos.
nice reaction ,,,cully is the GOAT of attacking fullbacks ,,,check out beauden barrett he too is a good watch ,,,
the salute is from the hurricanes super team, mascot is a captain. live close to him and he is a top bloke. one of my all time fav players. ability to find space and glide and change direction at exceptional pace.
Hand up to the forehead is the Hurricanes salute( his provincial "super 12" team back in the day). 15 is an attacking position as well as defensive. Depending whether you're on attack or under pressure. So one has to be able to read a game really well, and make sure they're always in position to be back for the chip "over the top" (of the defensive line) or the long kick down field from the opposition. One also has to be good under the high ball or "bomb" that the opposition often likes to kick high down field as the run at you at full speed. On attack you support the backs, center and wings generally, for the "cut out pass" to the out or inside.
In addition to the obvious speed and agility. He was famously strong for his size as well. Out benching many of the forwards was the tale I remember,
A bit of trivia for you - in the entrance to the smallish high school I taught at there are pictures of famous previous students including Christian Cullen and - wait for it - Peter Jackson (I remember that you love Lord of the Rings).
wasnt peter jacksons family from pukeroa bay
Maybe you are thinking of Pukerua Bay which is in the high school zone for Kapiti College where I taught (as is Paekakariki).@@bodybalanceU2
You may mean Pukerua Bay which is the next Bay heading south from Paekakariki. Both are in the school zone for Kapiti College in Paraparaumu (well, Raumati Beach actually).@@bodybalanceU2
Maybe you meant Pukerua Bay which is in the same school zone (Kapiti College) as Paekakariki.
Yep fullbacks and at least one type of winger are interchangable, both very fast. Think Beauden Barrett, he can fill both roles, has done so, and reminds me of Cullen.
yes cullen was a seagull much like beauden barret is he is always there to collect the last pass but in support which is what you want in rugby especially
Christian Cullen, Tana Umaga and the Goat Jonah Lomu... all on one team.. crazy 😅
Cullen was phenomenal to watch. Incredible player…so fast.
Another to watch is Jerry Collins….as Cullen was phenomenal at making breaks and scoring tries, Jerry was phenomenal at defence and stopping players. Jerry is another NZL legend.
Side note: Australia used to be a great team. They hold 1 RWC…though now the more popular sport in Aussie is Aussie rules and league
Christian Cullen had unlimited stamina and unstoppable agility a fullback is not just the last defender in rugby the FB has to be able to catch high ball / kick punt / Christian Cullen had all that i miss the days when one dude ran through a team by them self :) so in the opponents red zone the fullback will join the back line to add numbers and score a try.
The fullback, when attacking, has a roving role, he can basically be anywhere on the field. He is looking for developing plays or ready to exploit a weakness in the defense.
And that might be a potential overlap out wide (3 attackers on 2 defenders) or up the middle where the bigger players are getting tired and don't respond as quickly.
Yes its common for fullback to switch to the wing or even centre. When I played rugby i started off on the left wing. But as I got older started to lose a bit of speed and was shifted into the inside backs, playing at centre
Is it that you were remembering the 'jinking' move by Phil Bennet at the very start of that Barbarians try (that was finished by Gareth Edwards), and thinking of the jinking move Cullen did against Scotland just short of the tryline? If so you are bang on.
Lots of great fullbacks throughout history, but in my view, the greatest ever
Cully was magic on wheels. After his knee operation he wasn't quite the same but he could still foot it in the international game; unfortunately, even the best players don't have much chance when their coach is against them.
The head to hand is a reference to his provincial teams mascot. Captain Hurricane. It is meant to be a salute.
"This is the magic of a world-class fullback"
With the Aussies and South African Vids, this was the Tri-Nations, It was basically the best in the world at the time.
The barbarians are an invitational club basedd in England. A coach will be anounced and they'll select a team from players who put themselves forward. The players will usually wear their club socks to represent their club as opposed to their country adn as you ntoed can eb from across the globe.
Also they'll have one non-international player. England and New zealand are the countries that have Babarian teams that I know of. I could be wrong, let me know if I am anyone.
I'm 99% sure Cullen was based in Ireland and playing for Munster when he was on this Bahbahs team after John Mitchell dropped him from the All Blacks.
Rugby league wise, check out Paul Hauff who played for Queensland in State of O. Lanky and hard to tackle he was amazing
On defense, the fullback stays back for the kick or be the last line of defence. On attack, they can insert into the line and create an over lap. They can also counter attack and link up with their wings.
The Cullen, Lomu era was the most exciting to watch in my opinion. Maybe because i was a kid, but it seems like too many stoppages now, too much kicking back and forth now.
When you see Cullen do a salute like action after scoring a try that was a "thing" in those days for the Hurricanes (yellow shirts not Australia) to do. So you will see other players who were Hurricanes also do the same thing, even if they are playing for New Zealand. Different teams had there own way of celebrating a try.
Christina cullen was the best ever himnand john lomu, after they stopped play ,i finis wathing ruppy
in the 90s australia was the team to beat - they were the first to won two RWCs in 1991 and 1999
The modern equivalent is Will Jordan. All Black fullback/wing. Check him out. 😊
I met Christian Cullen and couldn t believe how small he is. And to answer the question at 15.00, Colby would be an excellent attacking fullback
He held the bench press title at the Hurricanes. Not bad for a skinny guy.
As a fullback he’s the last line of defence and the general at the back.
On attack Fullbacks are given free range and chime in any time any where they feel fit.
If he chimes in on the left then the right winger will drop back into fullback temporarily.
I heard a story once about a guy on the treadmill at the gym. This beautiful girl was on the other treadmill. Another guy gets on the third treadmill on the other side of the girl. The other guy starts at 6 so he goes to 6 trying to impress the girl. The other guy goes to 8 so does. Finally, the other guy goes to 10 and he looks at who the other guy was and it was Christian Cullen. So he decided to start turning the treadmill down and slowly walked away. If it's true who's to say. What I do know is that when I was in the gym when Ex ABIsaia Toeava got on the treadmill. He set it at level 10 and would jump on for 20 seconds then jump off. he did that for 30 minutes.
The Salute is the Captain Hurricane salute. The Hurricanes are the Wellington based Super Rugby team. Captain Hurricane is the Mascot.
I don't know if someone mentioned it below, but the Barbars are usually a world class team, and the usually play against the current world champions.
You should check out The footwork of Shaun Johnson and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. Awesome video of them two breaking lines and ankles. NRL
Cullen knew exactly where he needed to be in support, one of the differences between class players and the also rans ( like me lol ) .PS when the All Blacks play Scotland, the home team wears white jerseys. At a World Cup , I think it is decided in advance.
That Gareth Edwards' try was started by Phil Bennet!
He looks like a small guy, but I was walking behind him one day (though didn't know it was him at first) and his forearms looked like Popeye!
And those 'easy' tries are all about being in the right place at the right time, which is more difficult than it sounds. The best players make the game look easy.
Cheslin Kolbe can + does play Fullback from time-to-time (he's even played Scrum-half & Flyhalf before).... Also, it does happen from time-to-time whereby Wings cover Fullback or vice-versa; it's just helpful to a team when Ur Back-3 are able-to cover these Positions inter-changeably.
However, I believe Wing is his preferred Position or the Preferred Position Coaches like to play him in @least.
Aussie League Supporter (NSW): Without a doubt, the best mover in any rugby code is CC. The only other player who is similar is Darren Lockyer for QLD RL.
I wonder if there's a video of Cullen's defensive work - he put in some huge tackles for a smaller guy.
All the All Blacks are legends, Cullen is a legend among legends.
Cheslin has played fullback, and was great at it.
Do check out Brent Russell though -amazing!
Cullen is one of the best to leave them up no doubt.
Heard his hurricanes teammates nicknamed him beer bottle, because he was empty from the neck up 😂
You might find Football (League and Union) will have at least 2 different coloured jersey's they wear for games. It's because e.g. if Scotland plays All-Blacks, Scotland's colours are Navy Blue, and All Blacks being... all black... it can become confusing to the players on field because both have dark colours. So one team may wear their opposite colour jersey to avoid that situation.
pie cocka riki is how you say it, im about 10 min north of there in pram lol
They usually change places because they have brought someone new into the team and they are trying them in their position. It's not common but it is also not rare. 15:34 looks like they have put Jeff Wilson in the 15 position, Full Back.
It is common enough for wingers and fullbacks to interchange. Sometimes a club fullback will start their test career on the wing.
It even happens with other positions such as centre where players will be shifted to winv in some games at international level to blood them.
Kolbe also plays fullback, and, believe it or not, 10 as well.
The salute was to do with his super rugby team the hurricanes, the mascot was captain hurricane hence the salute.
That hand signal he does was between Hurricane players, the no 11 who comes in is Tana Umaga another Hurricane
All Blacks have had many great players obviously.
Christian Cullen is my pick as best in our generation. Dazzling, balanced , strong.Super quick rugby speed.
He got hurt in a no count game and lost a yard of pace which brought him back to the field.
How's about doing a reaction to the Aussie team of 1984 they were a team which consistently beat the All blacks more than the other way around. They had an amazing number of great players and one of the most exciting wingers David Campese but he wasn't the only notable player in this team.
Don't no what John Mitchell was thinking dropping the best fullback to ever play the game
He punched in a pub after the 1995 Springboks game, I have never been hit so hard in my life.
His best try in my opinion is against Fiji,he was inside his own in goal area and stepped his way the length of the field to score
Cullen was so deceptively fast, you dont realise how fast he is going until you see him next to someone else. He seems so effortless. These days it is common for wingers and fullbacks to cover each others positions, but back then only really Cullen and Jeff Wilson were wing and fullbacks. Cullens vision and timing are next level. Have a look at Carlos Spencer - think you'll like it
PS, if you want to see a legendary football game, watch NZ women v Aus women in the commonwealth games gold medal final - this one I think: ruclips.net/video/a0PRc1TT04s/видео.html
Pai ka ka ri ki ...express. If you want to see someone who revolutionised rugby John Kirwan. He did what Tiger Woods did to golf. Weight training, specific skills training. Video analysing games. Etc etc.
The salute is a nod to his wellington Hurricanes team from super rugby they had a mascot called captain hurricane who saluted when hurricanes scored a try the all blacks had several other hurricane players who you will see saluting as well
