I dig this very much you could make epic cabinets out of one of these huge logs.
Large candle holder? Rebuilding Roman columns?
I don't know what's more shocking, the danger to life & limb or the complete waste of wood.
That wood isn't wasted it's returning to nature just bite sized for the forest floor to enjoy a fest for the ground bugs that wood chip and shavings are not being wasted believe that.

Amazing to watch, not sure I'd want to be in the same room as that tree trunk when it's on the lathe - if anything went wrong and it got loose it would come at you like a steam roller.......and probably out through the wall of the workshop. Excellent video :-)

There are a bunch of these, is he turning balusters for the worlds most ridiculously massive balustrade or something. What could these possibly be for? Also how has he not burned his shop down in an enormous fire shooting off sparks from tool grinding into a shop with 2 feet of sawdust covering the floor
