After having my hip replaced last summer I have been adding lower body weight and jump training twice per week this summer to build back muscle coordination. I also do upper body during these sessions to balance things out

I do an upper body strength workout all year once a week. I do a lower body strength workout every week in the off-season and every two weeks otherwise. It’s all a mix of dumbbells, elastic bands, and bodyweight exercises.

Lots of functional lifting (slow and controlled and heavy for power, approx 8-10reps) and isolated movements for injury prevention about twice a week. I leave plyometrics out of the equation and leave that for hill repeats, sprints etc.

the fact people don't understand this is so funny, you are an all around athlete, you need to lift weights. Plus it can literally make your bones stronger!

I usually do strenth training in winter month and switch to do hill intervals on bike and when running. I also use hanpaddles and paddle kayak in summer. Should I do strenth training at the gym instead? 🌞

I run 3-4× a week and do strength 1x, yoga 1x. My fastest adult pace was when I was doing HIIT 3x a week, I just don't have time.

2-4 times a week in the gym in addition to my 10-12 hours triathlon training. Without it I get weaker plus the risk of injury increases. The other point is that triathletes are skinny and don’t look good so a bit of work on the guns and muscle definition is another bonus :-)

I’m a runner who wants to get into triathlon. My normal running week was 4x runs and 1x str training. Now I’m swimming 3x a week and running 3x. I need a day for a break and now I’ve run out of days. When do I do the gym session? Or is this something I don’t worry about for now? Long story short how do you fit in all the training?

I would add at least a strength session before or after the easy/long run day it you have time

    Can anyone help ?
Where can I get a triathlon programme with strength training included in it ??
Any programme I've seen only shows what to do when it comes to swim bike run, but no strength training . Where can I get a programme with all, broken down into what day to do it ??

There are some very good previous GTN/GCN videos on strength workouts (core, legs- in this video it was shown how Mark was stepping on a box, which was taken out of one of them) - why did you not mention those videos and include links to them? 🤔
Now that you motivated your audience (again) to do more strength training they will look for workouts- it would be easier for them to show them your recommendations.
And of course I personally totally agree that strength training is very important- and it becomes more and more important the older you get. Not just for endurance performance, but simply to stay healthy.

Hi there, can you please help with a debate I am having with my partner. Initially strength training for endurance athletes required more reps, with lighter weights. This video is saying less reps and heavier weights. Can you please clarify how lifting heavier vs lighter shouldn't build too much muscle? Is it because there are less sets involved?

I really don’t think you can get bigger muscles when you follow an Ironman or a 70.3 program!!! (At least my case)
It is so much cardio for long periods not enough time to recover, will kill all the muscle mass gain ! calories intake is also a big factor!

Strength training increase resistance. Resistance training does not increase strength.
