You got a "Trouble with Tribbles" reference in there. Now that is awesome! I like Dehner in this as well--I love him in "The Jungle." This is a perfectly fine episode. It doesn't always come to mind, but it's a great one to discuss this close to Halloween.
Hey Joe! Much thanks for popping in! I agree, Dehner was also great in 'The Jungle'. The actor carried himself in such a suave manner which was fitting here. He's similar in 'The Jungle' which makes that one all the more interesting because he's challenged with such an insane scenario.
4:23 You made my jaw drop yet again (as you did by identifying Ted Knight in "The Lonely.") I never knew the bartender was the same actor who was featured in The Trouble with Tribbles 😮--- and I have watched both this Twilight Zone episode and that Star Trek episode dozens of times over the last half century or so.
Ha ha okay cool. I go through the same. I don't tie actors / characters together at all for years and then boom - one day it hits me and I'm like 'that's the same person!' Typically it happens with the lesser known character actors.
and don't forget that John Dehner also played Paladin on the Have Gun,Will Travel radio show. What made this so different was most radio shows were replaced by TV versions of the same show. The radio version of HG,WT started AFTER Richard Boone's Paladin and Dehner appeared on several TV episodes of HG,WT.
Hey thanks Patrick! It's always interesting to see just how many of these TZ players also featured in many of the westerns of the day. When it comes the classic Westerns, I will defer to you, but I'm happy to see some online and look forward to checking them out!
@@fromthesidelines Dehner also worked for Disney as an animator where he assisted in producing drawings for Fantasia, The Reluctant Dragon and Bambi. He had quite a career.
Awesome stuff! Loving the Trek inserts and Fred Gwynne's cameo 😂 Brilliant! I had a maths teacher who looked just like him, his nickname was Herman! 😄 This TZ episode is a favourite. Such a great story and that lead performance is on the button. Loved hearing all about this one and that's another stellar episode of FDT! Live long and prosper, Anthony! 🖖
Hey Greg! Thanks for popping in man. ha ha hopefully one day I'll get to my favorite Star Trek episodes, until then, I'll have to settle for the trivia bits, 🖖lol Have a nice day ahead!
Great choice for an episode and one of the high lights of the season. I do quite like the western theme. And Hang 'em High is one of my favorite westerns. One of Eastwood's best outside the Dollars Trilogy. And I think I've said it before, but if not, I'm a big fan of the Star Trek tidbits. Keep 'em coming. Great work as always, Ant-Man.
Hey Rob, yeah this one is fitting for the season and sort of in the spirit of Halloween, so I figured why not, ha ha. Much thanks for checking in bro! Hope you are having a great weekend! 🤜🤛
Another great video , awesome job. I just noticed that J Pat O’Malley is in this episode. He was a voice over star for Disney. He did the horse in Mr Toad. Hilarious character.
Hey Mike! Thanks for checking in, hope you've been well. I agree about Dehner, he was one of the greats and in my view, a highlight of this episode for sure.
I like this episode. I feel it is an inspiration for works like Night of the Living Dead. Like how Little girl lost reminds me of Poltergeist. This is a great review for one of my favorites.
Hey VV! No doubt the eerie black and white graveyard imagery certainly reminded me of Night of the Living Dead too. The zombies cracking one-liners not so much though. ha ha
"These are the players, with or without a scorecard: in one corner, the algorithm; in the other, one...my sanity." 😉 Happy to have you here cdanderly & thanks for the kind words! 😁
Great video Anthony! It’s funny timing because I just binged a lot of The Rifleman episodes and he’s played several different characters on the show with his customary malice and intensity - I’ll have to rewatch this episode now.
So many great actors helped elevate shows like Twilight Zone back then. Its nice seeing a lot of our big name actors do TV again even if its on a streamer series.
Yo FDT! I always love seeing your uploads. I've been in the Spooky mood so this is perfect. Yeah I love the subverted trope of how people want their loved ones back. You are right, no matter what time period people still fall for scams.
Hey Charles, yup, the townspeople even prop up a sign noting the deceased but when push comes to shove, they are totally happy leaving them all buried. lol much thanks for popping in for the spooky season. Be well my friend! 🤜🤛
I don't think I've seen this one. 😮 It doesn't look familiar. But it's up my alley because it's a western with some horror in it. Top notch trivia as always. Great work Anthony. 🙌🏾💜
Awesome video as always FDT! Even when they are executed as well as they could, unique stories tend to stick around in our minds for awhile. And at the very least this one sounds interesting.
Great to see another Twilight Zone video! The previous Zone episode "Showdown with Rance McGrew" didn't blend comedy, the supernatural, and classic Westerns very well. This one does a much better job! Love that you gave John Dehner some recognition as well. He was in my favorite Andy Griffith episode: "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man," playing a role not too unlike this one. Glad you reviewed one of the more bizarre and less discussed episodes! Hope you are doing well and watching some horror classics for Halloween!
Heeey wassup Betamax! 'Showdown with Rance McGrew' now that is one I feel like I only saw once and it was not a fav at all. Typically I end up liking these more on rewatches, so we'll see how that goes. Much thanks for checking in man. Have a good one!
10 year old me just before the twist: Ha! I can't believe they actually fell for it! Mom: (smirking) 10 year old me right as the twist happens: Why are you smiling like that Mom...holy crap!
I’m gonna check out that Star Trek cartoon. I didn’t know about that series. Great Tribble connection! Great Fred Gwynn insert! I’ll check out this Zone. I recently watched 6 episodes of the fantastic show Are You Afraid of the Dark. I’m enjoying your vid! 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
Hey Max! I feel pretty alone in liking that Trek cartoon tbh, lol so I'm actually curious what others think of it. Much thanks as always for checking in! Happy Halloween!🎃🎃🎃
Hi, Anthony. As usual, we're in substantial agreement. This is an episode that works, even though it's mainly a comedy, and we know that generally speaking _TZ_ and humor are like oil and water. I think that the _Zone_ entries with comdelic elements are ones like this (how serious can it be with a character Rod named Zelda Gooberman? 😄), where there is at least a semi-serious premise--e.g., "What's in the Box". Yes, John Dehner carries the show, but, in part, that's because he plays the part as though it was a drama. *3/5 con jobs gone **_right_* Although _Alfred Hitchcock Presents_ and _The Twilght Zone_ generally are quite a bit apart in terms of genres, scripts and overall tone, this one struck me a rather similar to a Hitchcock episode from 1960,"The Little Man Who Was There", in its basic plot outline: A mysterious stranger comes into an Old West town possessing seemingly supernatual or otherwise miraculous powers (Biblical references are made either directly or implicitly) with both having twist ends. Here's a link to main part Hitch's comedic episode: ruclips.net/video/zFJ0-5kcTM4/видео.html

Very interesting Patrick! He had quite a voice for sure.
And as a supporting player on *MANY* radio episodes of "GUNSMOKE".
And starring on the brief 1958 CBS radio Western, "FRONTIER GENTLEMAN".

Not going to lie, this ep scared me when I was young 😂 Still loved it, great take on it as always!
Oh I could see that from the premise alone. And then it delivers too somewhat at the end.

Ah okay, interesting. I saw John Dehner also worked as an assistant animator for Disney, so nice tie-in there. Thanks WW! have a good one!
John Dehner had a restrained air of flamboyance in his performances (except in "The Lonely) which works really well here.
Hey Mike! Thanks for checking in, hope you've been well. I agree about Dehner, he was one of the greats and in my view, a highlight of this episode for sure.
Dehner is a king in this. He just oozes snake oil and charm.

Because that’s exactly why my Mom did that.
