    I know this might b a stupid question but here it goes anyways. Are u growing silver.? This is so interesting and is honestly very informative. I’ve learned more from you than I ever did in school. I just don’t get one thing though. If you are yielding silver like growing it. Or is this just a way to refine it. Thanks for the good content.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  4 года назад +1

      I am growing silver. But not out of thin air. I am adding impure 99% silver shot to the anode basket and passing an electric current through it. The current dissolves the impure silver. The impurities get trapped in the anode filter. The silver passes through the filter. The dissolved silver travels through the blue electrolyte and plates out as absolutely pure elemental silver on the inside of the stainless steel bowl.

    And a second question. If you just put the diluted acid in the cell. Would it create its own silver content?

    • @sreetips

      No SG. Some folks add nitric to the silver cell. I think it’s to dissolve some of the silver crystal to increase concentration of silver.

    • @sreetips

      Current flow does the work. Higher silver concentrations increase conductivity. I could use 350g instead of 600g but the electrolyte would be less conductive, slower, and increase risk of becoming depleted and start to codeposit copper

      Hello Australia. I’d recommend that you hold that silver like it is. It contains a known quantity of silver and will track right on up with the bullion. No need to refine it so long as you don’t try to “melt it down” and ruin the markings. Do that and its value becomes questionable.

      Yes! The system is very expensive and the cartridges must be replaced. I use about 20 gallons per month. At $1 per gallon it’s more economical to buy Food Lion distilled water. About 80% of my distilled water usage goes towards rinsing my glassware after cleaning it.

    Another dumb question- at 5:50, why remove the previous stainless steel bowl? Can't the same bowl be used for many batches of silver crystals? Shouldn't any copper released from the shot remain in solution, and a few silver crystals on the steel serve as nucleation sites? It seems to me that you're making extra work for yourself, unless there's details that I don't understand.

    One note that could have been included: When adding the distilled water to the electrolyte solution, an annotation "Don't use tap water here, it will precipitate the silver as silver chloride" will emphasize the need for distilled water at this stage.

    Why does my silver look like cement silver when I have my cell running for around a hour ?
    I have a stainless steel bowl, a plastic Tupperware lid with 250 micron stainless steel mesh as my basket.
    Positive is hooked up to the basket and the negative hooked up to the bowl and a fairly dilute nitric acid electrolyte.
