    A clean stick is a happy stick. I’ve never seen the mitten style leather protector before. Cool.

    Perfect explanation. I'm just starting to replace fuses now. I never thought to put the finger in the front. One pointer that my journeyman told me was to tap it and make sure it swings freely back and forth. That way you know it is seated in the cradle properly. Thanks for the video.

      💯 percent ! Awesome tip ... Yes if the door swings freely , you know it's seated correctly !
      I often times remove doors from the side part and hang them from the front . Especially if they have that Grove into them ! You can literally hang a door from the middle of the street with the grooved one!

    Clean 'n' tidy dry gear is most important, when in contact with HV.
    Never like the HV when it's wet windy and raining, just another sly way for it to try and find a way to ground!
    I'm following your channel to see more of your trade practices.
    Thumbs up 👍👊

    I have been using hot sticks for years and never knew the name power guys used. We called them pike poles. I use to work heavy towing and we would use sticks just like that to get straps and rigging in place. Interesting crossover in use. FYI we NEVER moved or touched anything electrical with them.

    One night at 3:00am a racoon crawled up my power pole and blew the fuse. I called the power company and a guy came out. He was having an awful time getting the new fuse back in and was throwing his hot stick down in the wet grass each time he chased after the fuse. It really surprised me that he didn't get shocked. A couple of weeks later they were out and replaced the fuse holder with a newer style and insulated the wire to the transformer. No more problems since.

    That’s cool to know. I do residential tree work and found one of these today at an abandoned house and knew what it was, basically. I only intend to use it for propping up phone/cable/triplex to get trucks underneath.

    Hot stick also works great for changing are light bulbs with the correct attachment, nice demo with the cut out, don't you love it when you have to hold that fully extended stick at shoulder height just to get one of those buggers in the slot then have to close it in. i can feel the burn

    Great tool. I always hated closing a cutout while standing directly under it with the old style double hotstick.

    I would like to know how strong the pole is, how much the pole can be arched, what is the diameter of the thinnest tube. Thank you

    a trick a lineman told me that when you are cleaning the stick you would want to only go from the head down and no back and forth movement. the reason for it is that if you have dirt and stuff on the stick that you can't see that so it doesn't get the contaminants back on the stick. instead of the one motion you can trapp all the dirt and junk that is on the stick

    Hey there! My sisters robotics team is competing in the B.E.S.T competition and this year, the theme is creating a robot to help with safety of linemen. They have to give a presentation to a panel of judges and I was inquiring to see if we could use some of your video in that! We won't publish anywhere, strictly for her Elementary-Highschool robotics team. They've toured several power plants and gotten footage there, but it's hard to get some of the more real life stuff when you aren't on the job. I'd be happy to email you more info about the team. Again, totally for education and not monetary purposes. Let me know if this is okay!

    I think the works come to a standstill when it rains and winds. You know you can't easy fit the fuse properly with the long extendable stick. Moreover, is it possible to see if the fuse is correctly installed into the cradle?
    In Russia, transformers and fuses are never hung on the power poles.

      I had a yellow round one with a blue stripe down the entire length that I really liked , but it was too damn short lol . Ive been using this triangle one for a few years now and find its really easy to use , but they do get wore out a lot faster then the round ones!

    What do you do if it goes off center when going up? Bring it down

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  5 лет назад +1

      If it goes off center , you should be able to manipulate the bottom stick to line things back up. While extending the stick, You'll find it easier with the top wobbling around rather then fully leaning to one side. If it's due to a heavy wind however ,you might have to coordinate moving the stick along with extending it !

    Where I work we do our own stick testing and we test the whole thing. Interesting you guys only test the top piece.

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  5 лет назад +2

      Yessir ! Good to know . We also do our own testing ..While the remaining sections are inspected and maintained , it is only the 1 section that is actually certified as a live line tool. I'm curious now as to what others do also ... thanks for the info!

    Is it right or wrong to use a hot stick without rubber gloves? I know that some utilities do and some don't.

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  Год назад

      A much debated topic!
      Our work methods indicate: 20kv gloves must be used while "switching"... Therefore regardless of the 100kv per foot tested fiberglass, they must be used.
      Meanwhile, 8ft tested sticks of the same specifications are used "bare handed" while working on 138kv lines.
      In our jurisdiction, our rules must be followed. If while working in another jurisdiction (where it's not required) I worked alongside a lineman that wasn't using them, I wouldn't be concerned. As long as they were following work methods particular to their company and work area.
      When in doubt, use em!

    Is there any way to lock that extendo in a shorter section to use it in a t-former vault or maybe just use the first section as a shorty since it's the highest rated part of the stick? My point being is we're doing a job that has residential transformer vaults and the inspector is trying to tell me that specific stick can only be used for things like harness retrieval. He's obviously wrong because you're using the same stick to pull cutouts!

    • @pumkinface1

      I take out the first section all the time to put buckrodgers on it (high voltage voltmeter for phasing) or to put my tag200 on it

      @@pumkinface1 Thanks for the info. Its old directed burial cable, 7200V. I've been putting a Hastings disco hook on that part of the retrieval stick to move the sketchy sections going under t-formers when I have to

    What is the material of hot stick boss?

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  4 года назад +3

      They're made mostly with fiberglass, and tested at very high voltage. Typically 75-100kv per foot!

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  4 года назад +2

      I should add; These particular sticks are only usually tested at the final extension, while the entire stick is fiberglass. The end piece has a glossy finish to help keep clean

    I actually work at the company that makes these Parts Hastings fiberglass So when you said that's the only part that gets tested that's not true every foot every part that we make is tested through the electrical tester at 100,000 volts every single part literally have made thousands and thousands of these parts work there for over 5 years only have had one part not test out

    • @Bobsdecline
      @Bobsdecline  Год назад +2

      I stand corrected; the top piece is the only one tested/stamped by our company after purchase
