Bryce Young Might Be in Serious Trouble | The Play Sheet

  • The Ringer’s Ben Solak talks through first overall pick Bryce Young's rookie season so far. His tape can be rough to watch, but with new coaches, a shaky O-line, and a WR corps devoid of star power, it'd be reasonable to place the blame for his lackluster performance elsewhere. The Carolina Panthers have put their faith in Bryce, but his future might depend on his ability to evolve his reads, timing, and ball placement.

    The words, "Why I won't panic on Bryce Young just yet", make him sound ridiculous. You mean a rookie QB on one of the least talented rosters in the League is struggling? Nooooo. 🥱
    Put Bryce on the Colts and see what a more accurate passer would do with an actual receiving corp and a very good offensive line.

      Our original pick was #9 soooo just doing the simple math here but the Texans and the colts picked earlier than 9 because they were a worse team last year 😅 Anthony Richardson doesn't have an issue pushing the ball downfield, and he's a threat rushing the ball which forces the defense to make sure everything is accounted for. Carolinas receivers all had more yards of separation than Justin Jefferson on Sunday....Jefferson was guarded almost all game by a guy from the practice squad.......and if Bryce would stop holding the ball and get it out on time (like he was advertised to be able to do day 1) he wouldn't be taking near as many sacks. The seahawks sacked DJ 11 times......behind the same oline as Bryce Andy Dalton got sacked twice 😅

    I still can’t believe the Panthers traded all that just to draft Young. Not Stroud, who’s a prototype at the position, but Bryce a small QB. It’s a really dumb decision seeing how many better QBs will come next year. This will get Frank fired after a couple seasons.

      I that makes you happier I highly doubt CJ would look like he does in Houston. Bobby Slowik and DeMeco Ryan’s might have been a bit underrated because nobody knew really how they would transfer to OC and HC but they’ve done a terrific job in designing the offense and getting around weaknesses like the injured line. The Panthers star studded coaching staff has let me down a bit in that regard but I really wouldn’t be surprised if the Panthers would really point upwards in the second half of the season

    everything that you stated is everything that i have seen from watching bryce in the games. with no film. or No advanced stats. i have been telling people frank calls streak,fades and out routes outside the numbers and young never delivers. on all the deep ball he overthrows and if you watch the path of his balls they always tend to be wobbly and not a tight spiral. Bryce is a huge disappointing 1st overall pick. his ceiling in the NFL at most is a avg qb. btw thats not a drop on thielen. bryce has two drops from wr in three games.i dont believe thats one of them. thielen had to jump for that ball i get it. touched his hands but that ball should have been placed better. i dont think that was really a catchable ball. And thats a ding on the qb. Bryce struggles with ball placement. he also doesnt push the ball down the field as he ranks dead last in aggresivnes stat at 6.8 meanwhile andy dalton like you stated which i already knew does play way more aggresive backed u by his 13.8 aggresive rating. bryce is also bottom 10 in the league for 2.93 slowest releases mixing that with a weak arm says a lot. Dalton is top 5 with 2.5 behind dak who 2.49 so you can see why our offense looks alot better with dalton than bryce you dont have to compensate. last bryce is also dead last in avg passing yard intended 5.2 also 33/34 qb in avg pass yards per 4.9 thats terrible. you breakdowm shows me that because of his style he is severely capped in the NFL. theres alot of other metric for qbs that he bottom or dead last in i didnt understand them so i left them alone but you should get the point good video.

      How can Young push the ball down field with the receivers he got? Sure Dalton was aggressive for one game but for one its a small sample size and he's not a rookie! He's also 6'2" and plays like he sees over his linemen so of course he's more comfy airing it out to WRs who can barely separate. But overall the passing attack is not sustainable to be able to have a consistent deep attack for those either those 2 QBs in this poor offensive system.

    I've watched him in high school, college as well - the only reason this kid is in trouble is because of his surroundings. His offensive line is porous, pass catchers are as well. This is why I applaud if/when Caleb Williams decides to hold out for the right opportunity.

    • @brandonjackson6323
      @brandonjackson6323 8 месяцев назад +1

      Caleb should not do that. Eli was able to do that because of who his pops and brother were and I feel that was more with Archie than Eli. Anything can happen and you can’t pick and chose whose to say the same team or a worse organization doesn’t get the pick the next year then what does he do

    • @Chalk89
      @Chalk89 8 месяцев назад

      Eli's decision was not 'OK'ed' because of his bloodlines. It was heavily scrutinized then, and still is in some circles. While one cannot guarantee that a team Williams wishes to go to won't be a dumpster fire, there's a strong chance that he is going to elevate a franchise and give stability to the most important position on the team. I'm not OK with perennial dumpster fires getting first grabs to ruin a player and will continue to support those who don't want to go somewhere because, 'that's how it has always been...'@@brandonjackson6323

    For folks making the odd job comparison with Stroud doing better with little, lets give flowers to OC Slowik for designing a pass game and putting solid talented receivers in winning positions. Collins is 6'4 210 lbs with a big catch radius and he's leading the league in YAC. Dell of course is the speedster and the staff is finding ways to try get him open down field. You can tell me all of the accolades Theilen has but he's 33 yrs old and isn't great at separating. The rest of the Panthers receivers aren't ball winners and nice route runners either. Add with Reich/Brown's uninspiring play calling and the pass game just doesn't have that punch that either Young nor the rookie QBs in Stroud or Richardson can excel in. Nor a run game where those guys can catch a breather (lol Miles Sanders).
    And for someone whose pretty young, I'm surprised you dropped the David Carr reference. That guy never caught a good break as a rookie QB and neither did Tim Couch.

    Plus the smarmy remark that Thielen wasn't a #1 WR for the Vikings. Which is true because they had Diggs and then Jefferson, two of the best WRs in the game now and probably will go down as all time greats. Even still, Thielen had two pro bowl seasons where he had more catches and yards than Diggs.

    You missed your calling. You need to get up to DC and fill in as the presidential spinmeister. This offense, play calling and qb play has been terrible. They showed life with Dalton. So what do they do? They go back to the rookie.

    He has to take an extra step back or two. He can’t see over the line too small

    I am a Panthers fan. I don’t have an issue with Bryce’s height. Only thing I have seen with him is pocket presence issues and reading blitzes.
    We lack talent and I am not too crazy about the staff, but Our biggest problem is the Oline. We can’t run the ball, and there are communication problems on most pass plays. Even with those problems, ball needs to come out or he needs to take off the moment he senses a breakdown. I think he’s not anticipating and reading some blitzes

    He's not good. Had huge Zach Wilson vibes before the draft, but for some reason he was the Clear #1 pick. tiny noodle arm quarterbacks. People get paid to scout these guys and he was picked probably because of Tua and Jalen Hurts.

    Hey dude, leave Young alone...you admitted that he has a weak OL and weak receivers...the Panthers were bad before he got there

    Bryce is gonna be fine. Theres only 4 skills player on the whole offense that were even on the team last year lol. And a completely new coaching staff. Keep Pounding.

    Problem with Bryce Young is that he lacks so many physical traits that he has to be near perfect on every play and have a ton of help should've never been #1 pick. Would be playing decent with good supporting cast but don't think he'll ever be elite with missing so many physical traits.
