Thanks for this. I took my stang in 5x with the same problem. They kept checking the coil packs, plugs, and fuel injectors. Finally they said it was my cat back exhaust that was causing the issue. After talking to the service manager and showing your video, they checked the runners and found that it was the issue. Thanks a lot!
Scott Boatwright gets an A+ for this excellent and accurate diagnosis. Your analysis made the most sense for DS 2, 4, 6 misfires but not 8. I had the same concerns about dealerships so I started on internet with take-off manifold for $70. Once you have that part in hand it's easy to see IMRC butterfly plates driven with single plastic shaft actuated by vacuum could break. Cylinder 8 is first in order since diaphragm is in back of motor so that left 2, 4, 6 hanging. I reluctantly had this discussion with service adviser at a San Jose Ford dealership which deals a lot of performance vehicles. And of coarse "We've never seen that before" but after 3 weeks they figured it out through process and finally replaced Intake Manifold. They confessed there was a second S550 Coyote with same symptom on PS bank. A corporate Ford service rep showed up to evaluate this particular problem and hopefully maybe generate a permanent solution.
OK. Problem solved per your video. Right bank on this one 1234. Same misfire on all cylinders but no codes. Got intake from back east as a take off from a new car. $90. Manifold off and it was immediately obvious the shaft was broken. All the flaps on that side are flopped open. Other bank they are all closed. i would say about an hour and a half to swap it over. Misfire obviously gone. Again , thank you for a well done diagnosis and fix.
Ron Sykes yay! Glad u got it fixed the quick n easy way. The new vehicle take offs are a great deal, I’ve seen quite a few on ebay. Update us if this happens again. I have yet to hear of someone have this happen twice
This is the best explanation I’ve ever seen. I had the exact same issue. The solution was to replace the manifold. Also found an uncomfortable amount of oil in the manifold. The oems were back ordered so I had to get the gt350 manifold along with some catch cans. After the first oil change the driverside was empty while the passenger side had a bit of oil in it.. these are good fun cars but after owning several new edge cars my personal opinion is “these are not made like the old ones” After 3 months I went to turn at an intersection I thought the trans broke when in fact it was the half axle $$haft$$ Also eventually a few weeks later the transmission did break on me. Fast forward to a week after it being rebuilt I experienced the shifter getting stuck in reverse I would have to rip it out of reverse. Also I noticed gurgling or bubbling noises the car would run only at 20.0/afr under some acceleration and mostly under diminished load(downshifting or bliping) I would notice excessive heat coming from the shifter Now it is hard to get the car in first gear it’ll go straight into reverse won’t allow me to get into 2nd. I have to start in 3rd sometimes it lets me downshift into 2nd but not always. Sometimes I can start in 1st but as this car only being a daily driver I’m not sure I’d recommend. I have a new edge drift car and I never touched the transmission and never experienced a problem redline and bounce off rev limiter like “it’s nothing” this car I can’t say the same as I’ve not pushed this car to the limits. But after reading so many forums and watching videos about the problems 15-17 have I’d give it a 5/10.. I have a pp 2015 less than 60k mi I’ve replaced the half axle shafts, intake manifold and had the transmission rebuilt (due for another rebuild) it’s sad. My best advice for anyone wanting one “don’t” also if you do then do this. Intake manifold if it’s not damaged delete the cmrc whatever it’s called. It will save you a truck load of problems. If you don’t you will have to replace that manifold and if you do be sure to get catch cans so you don’t damage the manifold. Half axle shafts can be a hit or a miss my car had 4 previous owners and I’m sure yours may be fine but any drivetrain part on these cars seems to break (reading other comments on them) Also that transmission. I’d get rid of it asap if not change the fluid to something a bit more on the performance side. I was told 3rd and 4th are the weak components of an mt-82. Get a t56 if you can if you can’t be sure to get something to cool the trans I know the fluid on my car got boiled. T5/t45 I never had a problem. Also 2x tap your traction control to turn it off the tcs seems to work against moving components and limits the travel electronically which makes sense as to why everything wore out so fast for me the 1st time. I’ve been told to turn it off for that very reason.
I’m not a mechanic, but brought it to Steeda for a tune after being dismissed from the first Ford dealership who just sent me on my way w/o fixing after waiting .4 hours- check engine light came back on but brought it to Steeda thinking they would know -,( who told me it was a misfire code,) sent me to a dealership that had a service tech with knowledge about Mustangs. saving me from void warranty issues for after market modding engine- now sitting waiting for another diagnosis. Hopefully their Mustang tech -at new dealership knows how to read the diagnostics and fix / if not I need to show them this video, I’m saving this - it does & thank you
Nice to see a problem correctly diagnosed and fixed instead of the hum and haw and try this and that stuff that pervades the internet. You are to be commended for a job well done and for posting the problem and remedy so clearly. Thank you.
Ron Sykes i appreciate it! I was the guy sifting through hours of the hums on the Internet. Happened to see one slight mention of this being a problem which was vague and barely brushed over in a thread. Since the obvious stuff didn’t fix it i assumed i should check for this. Once i went through it all I wanted to make sure everyone can see first hand what’s going on.
This is a great video.....I went through this on a 2016 GT......I ended up swapping out with a 2018 + intake manifold.....What a difference across the power band.....Did the injectors while the rail was off......This is a really simple fix.....Even if the actuator isn't broke the flaps still need to be cleaned or they will stick on cold starts......Ford should be all over this and recall this problem.....And definitely don't lock the IMRC open unless you're running turbo or charged systems......I'd recommend pulling the manifold after 25000 miles because it's gonna happen!!!!!!
Did you need a tune with the 18+ manifold. I have one as a spare and I believe my stock manifold might have this issue. But I don’t want to swap my stock manifold with my 18+ if I need a tune for the car
Dealer has my 2015 gt its throwing the error codes I'm gonna mention the manifold issue to them .thanks for the vid.they are talking about replacing injectors and or coil packs!!!🙄 update the dealership replaced the intake it was the same issue outlined in the video.replaced no charge under the manufacturer warranty. Took them 1 day to diagnose and replace.
My biggest regret about buying my Mustang GT was not considering Ford Service Centers. I absolutely refuse to ever enter one again. Completely useless people who don’t care about you or your car. I will not even get my oil changed there. Honestly if I knew how bad Ford service centers were I probably would’ve never bought a Mustang
out of the 4 ford dealership in my area, one is good. my wife has a nissan and I thought I was going to have the cops called on me there. I three a huge bitch fit because the service manger didn't hold the word of one of his service clerks.
Outstanding! This is the exact problem my Ford service guy said. He said he'd never seen anything like it failing ever. I've been all over the internet looking for what he was talking about. Thank you for the video
Michael Pait i had a feeling I wasn't the only one. Weird hat the metal shaft would break like it did. Also sucks that you can't get that part to replace it either. I did pull my good one out before throwing the manifold away just in case i need a spare in the future
Paradise Ford fixed mine under warranty... It would have cost me almost $1400 for that! $400 just for the replacement manifold. Apparently it's a pretty major issue a lot of Mustang owners are seeing. This is the first video I've seen about it. You, Sir, win the internet for the day. Go crazy my friend!
Michael Pait yeah i felt it was my civil duty to make a video so we all have a clear understanding. I was in the dark and decided to handle it myself. I opted to go with the stage 3 power pack instead, have you heard anything about the gt350 manifold doing this?
I have not. I have a couple of friends that have the 350. 2 of them do track days in central Florida and they haven't had this problem. Fuel pump issues but not the manifold.
Btw, Love the blue. That's the color I wanted but, at the time Nov 2014, it was a 2 month wait... opted for the Oxford white. Still want the blue though lol
This is a fantastic video but I do have a question as to why you replaced all the coil packs instead of swapping them and seeing if the cylinder code changed. Thank you for this video.
Scott, I've got a '19 F150 with the Coyote. I know they're not exactly the same as the mustang motor, nor the same as the '15-17 F150. I'm getting a P0307 code. I changed the plug in cylinder 7, and swapped coils and the code stayed with cylinder 7. My next guess was either an injector or it needs a compression test....jury is still out. I didn't even think to consider the intake being a problem, so thank you for that. In the future, if you can get in to Future Ford Fleet in Clovis, they've been super helpful with me. They did a complete transmission overhaul on this truck, and changed injectors on my '18 ecoboost, all under warranty.
Appreciate this video shit 5 years later. My mechanic told me a year ago I need a manifold but the issue went away on its own now its back and the car will go into limp mode often. First time hearing this is a problem with the s550s
Thank you for posting this video! Been trying to figure out my random misfire for a couple weeks now. Took manifold off yesterday after watching your video and same issue. On another note, I think I have seen you around northwest Fresno before. (Recognize the decal and wing, small world)
Broo thankyou this is most likely my issue. I did plugs, coils, and even swapped out the cylinder 8 injector and the misfire always returned on 8 and 5. This has gotta be it. I bought my s550 as pretty much a lemon and have been chasing down issues for months. This is my last one and hopefully i'll finally have a good car.
Brother....I had the exact same thing...same break location same bank.... I drilled out front of manifold and pushed rod out the back. I put a spot weld where the shaft goes into the ball socket ....slid rod back in and sealed front of manifold....used IMRC lockout kit to lock them open and had a tune from Lund to delete the IMRC controls from the computer altogether....👍
My car has a jerk at about 1500 to 2200 rpms especially bad when in lower gears. 6th gear cruising down the road does it too just not as bad. Under hard acceleration I don’t notice it at all. Sound about the same? Also had a random missfire and cylinder 8 codes.
Was reading about this in multiple postings and just did the same and replaced the manifold. Old one didn’t work and car runs great again and no check engine light. Total costs around $140 vs. Ford talking about 2k.
Kevin Boullard awesome! That’s why I posted it, I figured we all are in the same “screwed” state together. From my experience I knew Ford would be worthless in helping
thank you. ran rich and had same codes at Road America today and had to leave track session early. dropped the car at the dealer. they promised to replace if it's the manifold.
Kapss 08 I ended up installing a o ring on the crank position sensor I think. It’s crazy to think I had this issue 2 years ago but all I remember was there’s a sensor behind the left head on the backside in youre lookin at the engine from the front
Scott, I have the exact problem on my 2017 but on the passenger 1234 side. Every cylinder missing like crazy in the low rpm range. I did the plugs but they all looked good. Thought about the coils but hesitated on that. I am an old time hot rodder and would have never dreamt that they had something like those flaps in the intake plenum. And with those large vacuum motors operating them. I could not tell from your video exactly how they are configured. Obviously they pull on a bell crank device to create circular motion. I will be interested to see the set up when I get the intake off.
I’m having similar issue with my 2018 coyote I’ve got lost compression. Did you do a compression test prior to removing the intake? any additional advice would be appreciated
I've seen a few questions about if this applies to 2014 and older and the manifold here is different then the 14, so I dont think this applies to the 11-14 5.0
Great video buddy. Super diagnosis and informational. Mine is the same model year with same issue and it’s being replaced on mine under warranty as I type the comment.
that problem only happens in idle? because my mustang gt shakes the engine a little when it is stopped. the car does not register any fault, it does not light any warning light. which problem could be?
Got the P0300, P0308 & P0316 but only on cold start where the RPM will rev sometimes over 2000RPM+ and slowly drop to idle 30-45 seconds after? Wonder if my Pedal Commander is the cause of the high RPM's at cold start as Bama is stumped and can't figure it out? ...,Most of these high rev's will run around 1500-1750RPM. If I run the stock tune then everything runs fine and it's partially the tune that's making these errors pop up!
ive got a misfire on my gen 1 coyote, it doesnt happen every time but happens around 3-5k rpm, it also happens on two different sides i got cylinder 2 and 8 mifiring changed the coil packs and sparkplugs already dont wanna pay ford to look at it again for no reason, could it be the crank position sensor?
I'm almost positive I have the same issue. I have a 17 gtp. I want to swap out the 17 intake for the 18 that gives a small boost of HP. I'm thinking of removing all the IMRC crap from the back of the new intake and locking the flaps open. Long story short and here is the million dollar question ---- will I need to a tune OR will the car throw a CEL with out the IMRC crap hooked up? I will zip tie all the loose connectors tight to the wiring loom so they wont rattle - but because they won't be plugged in anywhere, will it throw a CEL?
My 2017 mustang GT is having the same problem. My question is will this solve the check engine light codes? Should I have this problem again? I heard the'18 intake doesn't have the"flaps"!
I just had a McLeod RXT clutch and aluminum flywheel installed and now I'm getting the p0300 random misfires. It sucks spending a lot of $$$ and now I'm getting what seems to be the misfires but the engine isn't actually misfiring from what I can tell there's no difference in engine noise or power. I'm at a loss if anyone knows anything I'd love some answers. I'm considering getting new flywheel heavier or both. Btw I've done the crank position sensor relearn.
After getting a clutch and flywheel upgrade on my 14 5.0(with 124k miles) these codes starting popping up too, changed the sparks and coils and still same issue. Never had problems until after the install.
@@street6924yes I got it semi fixed, we’ll at least my power and all the good response etc. but the codes still pops up every now and than. So I just did a crank relearn on my sct tuner a few times and it eventually fixed the problem, except the code reappears semi often, my mechanic said it’s likely that when they were working on the install they accidentally bumped tap or messed with a sensor or wiring where it throws of the reading to the computer in order for the car to run properly.
@@sudogallo ahh gotcha thanks for the response. I bought mine just a month ago and they guy said a small transmission shop replaced the whole transmission and clutch I hope that’s what’s causing the code .
Quick question was your runners stuck closed for misfire to occur? Eason asking they have a delete system to by pass the system that keeps imrumners open so was wondering if yours was stuck open to cause misfire?
My 2017 is at the ford dealership now for this suspected issue right now. How much of a power loss did you notice? But it seems like this should be a recall
Does the 2014 coyote have the same intake? Getting random missfire cylinder 2 and 7 along with the infamous p0300. Check plugs and gap all checked good. I moved #2 coil pack to cylinder 1 maybe nexts time if it does it again it'll be on cylinder 1. That would tell me the coil is faulty.
So what was the final result of your efforts? I'm getting a P0302 and changing plugs and coils didn't help. I've yet to remove the manifold to check it out. But I was curious if you got fixed
Ray Sharpless i got the shelby manifold. The only options u have if the shaft broke is to get a new manifold or replace the shaft. U will have to get the shaft out of another manifold since ford doesn’t sell it individually. But u could probably find a broken manifold on ebay to pull the shaft out of. There’s plenty out there with broken plastic pieces that sell for really low
Condor1970 no rattle for me. There were no sound differences, just a very slight stutter feeling. It was so slight that I think most people wouldn’t have noticed it
Here's some fun for you. I have a 2019 Mustang GT. About four months ago, I noticed the odd idle behavior, and it would occasionally stall at start up, but it wasn't throwing a code. Ran diagnostics. Nothing. Checked all fuses. Nothing. So erring on the side of caution, I changed the spark plugs, air filter, and ran fuel injector cleaner through it. Didn't help. Still no codes. Performance was great though. It finally popped a misfire code on cylinder 2 last week right before an HPDE event, so I changed the coil. At the event, multiple codes occurred. Since I had reached the limits of the me-fix-it, and I was at 57K miles, I took it to the dealership. First thing, these %$#@ tried to tell me it was because of the aftermarket, better than Motorcraft spark plugs. No. Nice try. We fought about it. They agreed to replace the manifold, because I knew and they do too, that the S550 has issues with the manifold and misfires, especially at low RPMs. They tell me it didn't fix it (I'm two hours away right now), and they have to look for other issues now, but they need to replace the spark plugs because it's part of the SOP to go further. Fine. I know it isn't the spark plugs. They call today and tell me the car is fixed. I'm suspicious. This dealership has been shady af from the start. The manifold likely fixed the issue. They just want to be right. I love my Mustang. It is a beast. But never again will I buy a Ford, mostly because of their service departments.
I have a similar problem but with cylinder 3, I tried replacing the spark plugs and coils as well, now I’ll try checking the flaps inside the intake, wish me luck 🤞🏻
Welllll....... the 2011 automatic gt doesn’t have the flaps, however I removed the engine wire harness and checked for any shorts or damage, didn’t find anything, so I reinstalled the harness and used dielectric grease for each connector, now the injector problem is gone but the check charging light is still on, engine runs better now.
Hello. Thanks for the video. I am new to this kind of stuff and am not very knowledgeable! I have a 2017 GT /w 10k on it and my P0300 and P0308 AND P0306 came on. The dealership suggested I bring in my stock intake and swap it back for my aftermarket one I installed because they think that's the problem. Does this make sense? Why would they think it is the aftermarket cold air intake over the other dozen possibilities? Is my dealership just stupid? Should I suggest them they try this first? Please any input would be good, thank you so much!
ConstantinCCC dealers allllways automatically assume problems are due to aftermarket stuff. Put everything back stock on the engine just so they can narrow it down. But, your codes are related to the driver side of the engine just like mine, I’m pretty sure you have the same issue I did. Let them know about my issue and show them the video if they don’t already know what you’re talking about. If they are lazy, they’re probably going to send u home after a software reset, and then have you comeback later
ConstantinCCC yeah i fixed it by going with the stage 3 power pack in order to have the gt350 manifold. The broken shaft is causing one side of your manifold to be fully open at cruising speeds whereas the other side is partially closed. The shaft isn’t sold separately so you’ll need a new intake manifold. It should be covered by warranty, but if not it’s about $400 from the dealer.
Once again thank you. Last question. Did yours have any signs of having misfiring cylinder heads? What I mean by this question is was there a physical noise you heard or a different kind of idle that made you aware of this problem besides the check engine light being on? I will admit that I feel no difference in power or feel anything has changed in sound or my idle. If it wasn't for the light coming on I would not think anything is wrong. Is this normal? Thank you!
ConstantinCCC glad to be helpful, I’m glad my pain in the ass paid off. Ide was pretty much normal and so was full throttle, but the car had a stutter and a hesitation in the engine Performance while driving at low rpms and that’s how I knew there was an actual problem. Try driving in 6th on the freeway and keep the rpms low, like 2500 or less and set cruise control. See if you notice a hesitation or hiccup in the driving. I have tons of experience with cars so I notice any tiny thing that seems wrong, but someone with less experience probably wouldnt have noticed. With your intake, did the problem happen as soon as you switched? If so then maybe the intake is causing an issue, but i really think its the manifold, the fact that your problem is isolated to on side of the intake
@scott boatwright , Did you have any luck replacing the shafts? I have a ported 350 IM among other supporting mods and have the same issue. I'm hoping that it's possible as I dumped some $$$ into the part. Thanks for making this video, a great help!
2Morrowdesign no because i got a shelby manifold, but it tested it and that shaft just slides right out easily. There’s no way to buy just the shafts though. If u buy a used manifold, you could pull the shafts out and swap them tho!
@@ScottBoatwrightRacing I'm thinking so, I have been having this issue and I think it might be the shaft. I been troubleshooting the IM by checking electrical connectors and vacuum hoses to the actuator and everything looks good. I have been getting codes 2004 (IMRC stuck open) and P0300 (Random misfires as well as cylinder 7 misfires. However this issue appears intermittently. While trying to research the problem (after discovering it over the weekend) I had a discussion with my motor build partner (Paramount Speed) and tuner (PBD) and they suggested the above tips however after some independent research I came across your video (which was very helpful). I have a track day this week so I have to get it sorted out soon.
2Morrowdesign well damn, glad this video helped! I haven’t looked in awhile but i assume a gt350 manifold is still super pricy unfortunately which is what you’ll need for the shaft swap. The shafts on each manifold is different, so u can’t take ones from the base model. Although, on the gt350 the end of the shaft is threaded on to the actuator arm rather than welded like the base model. So maybe u can get stronger shafts made!? If it’s the same problem i had, this wont effect your track day, the flaps are open at WOT, so the AFR and other stuff will all be correct while on track, this problem only effects lower rpm street driving
HAVASU1985 i saved my passenger side shaft before tossing the manifold. U gonna have Ford fix it? They may have you bring it back a few times before actually pulling the manifold, unless you have a smart dealership
@@HAVASU1985 now here’s my question I have the same issue going on and I plugged my N gauge in and read the codes P0300 and the code for cylinder 8 misfire. I still have warranty on my car should I leave the Lund 93 tune on or should I flash back to stock? I did reflash my 93 tune and it got rid of the CEL for the codes. But they prolly need to be on in order for Ford to replace the intake?
Yeah I'm getting multiple cylinder misfire as well as cylinder 2 misfire and also p2004& p2011 intake manifold runner control stuck open bank 1a and 2a. So Im guessing this is the problem. Should I buy another oem intake manifold as well or just wait and save a lil and get the cobra jet intake or the 302 intake manifold??? Give me advice!!
OnTheDaily RGV here’s what my thought was. Well i can get a used one in mint condition on ebay for $100-$200 so this isn’t a big deal, but if I do why wouldn’t any other oem manifold do this at some point, so do i really wanna have to do this potentially 1 or 2 times a year!? So i got the stage 3 power pack and solved it for good. I think
OnTheDaily RGV i get a deal on the kit and it cost me like $1800, retail is like $2400 i think. The stupid gt350 manifold is $1000 on its own. Replacing it with a used one is the cheapest option. I was wanting the stage 3 anyways so this just pushed me over the edge
Great video, I have a 16 GT, with Roush 2300 Supercharger installed, with LTH Cat Delete and VMP tuned. With the Roush my understanding is the intake manifold is deleted. So I am now getting the dreaded P308, P345 and P349. Any idea when there isn't a manifold installed due to supercharger?
@@roybadrill4310 Yes. They replace the Cam Position Sensor and the Cam Phasers. Sorry to say, it cost me a pretty penny. Start with Cam Position Sensors since its not that expensive.
I'm starting to get this code but I have a ported 18 mani on my 16gt, with lockouts. Do you think maybe the sparkplug? I'm at 52000 miles. I have Ford performance injectors that where purchased when I bought the manifold
Did the crank relearn end up working? I just put on a ported 2018 manifold with 47lb injectors, uploaded my tune from vmp and now I have the dreaded cylinder 8 misfire, I’m praying tomorrow the crank relearn thing works as idk what to do after that
A little late on my end as I got an 18 that I bought in October. At dealer over a month now (30 business days next Friday) so I’ll have them lemon it. P0300 with all cylinders misfiring. I told them early on to check the imrc after watching this vid but they brushed it off and are doing what the engineers tell them to do. So I got a call today and they will take manifold off to... (drumroll)... Change the crankshaft sensor. I was like “you’re literally there but oh well...” they’ve changed spark plugs and everything too. Car prob has 2500-2600 miles now. I honestly forgot. I know I was at 2400 or so.
6ixSpeedStang damn! So this problem is happening on the 18 too!? That sucks, I expected it to get fixed with the revised manifold. But damn yours has such low miles it doesn’t make sense
Scott Boatwright Yup. I guess I’m one of the few that got a bad batch. Love the car, my first ever Ford and first ever v8 and first ever stick. They tried to blame my race exhaust but I told them that’s impossible. Back pressure test and it passed. Oh well... idk how a crankshaft sensor could fix a p0300 that’s got all cylinders misfiring. I just hope I can keep it out of service until Friday so I can go through with the lemon review that I’ve had been trying to start through my rep.
6ixSpeedStang i am having exactly the same problem with my 18 did you find out what was the problem. Ford told me that i need a brand new engine but i i did a compression test and all my cylinders look fine.
Great vid 👌. Just had a few codes pop 75k on my 15 gt. Daily driven for 3 years straight winter and summer and it gets lots and lots of wot so my imrcs have had their workout 🏋️♂️! Curious any luck removing the shafts ? I have an 18 mani I never bothered installing but looks like it’s time I do but I want to know if the shafts and flaps can be completely removed instead of just overpriced billet lockout plates.
I got p0300 p0308 and p0302 u think it would still be the manifold? I’d have to check my spark plugs and coils this weekend I don’t wanna buy a new manifold yet unless I find out it is and I’m definitely not taking it to the dealership I’d appreciate the response.
@@carlosandresh__ oh ok, but i have trouble narrowing down the issue because i noticed if i have it on 2nd or 4th gear for too long that's when the check engine pops up ajd starts blinking so yea
My Mustang 2016 consume oil about 1Litre in 2000km and at about 19000 km start misfire and now its runing only on 7 cyl, had it checked for engine light and told the cyl 5 mifire. Have apointing at the dealer next week. Now the engine lights are on again.
Jee. I find it hard to believe this would happen that soon. Also i know they changed the intake manifold in 2018, so i was assuming this problem would’ve been fixed. Let us know what happens
hah i just got my 2018 orange fury 5.0 and only 90 miles and got the code p0300, im showing up to the dealership with no appoiment, they better take my car
@@LVprankstervlogsjesus Took car in last, well according to my paperwork this is what they did: Check engine light is on, perform a visual inspection, verify cincern, hook up IDS, retrieve DCS for DTC P0316 and P0300, check oasis for TSBS and SSM for TSB 18-2130. FOLLOW TSB AND REPROGRAM THE PCM , CLEAR DTC VERIFY REPAIR OK. Hopefully i won't get it back, so far so good. I must say they treated me very well and I felt comfortable.
This is very helpful and yet a little discouraging, too. My son's car is identical to yours. Same Ford Racing/GT350 CAI and even the same color. I say discouraging because ironically we also live in Fresno so will be faced with the same choice of dealers. His just started throwing the codes today and you can feel the lowspeed surging.
65sohc yikes. Im shocked it’s doing it on that manifold. Let me know if it ends up being the manifold! Yeah I’m sure u guys will have to leave it at the dealer for awhile or will have to go back multiple times. Just very annoying. Is his manifold installed by the dealer?
Sorry if I was unclear. Our car has the GT350 CAI and throttlebody from Ford Performance. That's what I thought I saw in your video. Actual intake manifold is original.
65sohc ah gotcha. Yea it’s definitely the same issue. They’ll likely try a ecu reset. Then you’ll probably have to come back for plugs or injectors before they go for the manifold
Well, it turns out my trepidation was unwarranted. Lithia did an unbelievably complete diagnostic workup, ultimately determining it was the IMRC and replacing the intake manifold. We got a two page printout of the work. A few interesting comments the tech made: program in PCM not recognized. They then connected some other reader and determined it was an aftermarket (Ford Performance) tune. They then did some further testing and noted "aftermarket tune not cause of problem." Next it says "fuel checked for ethanol. No ethanol found." That certainly gave me pause as my car has a Lund flex tune so I'll be sure it's filled with e10 any time I go in for service. They went on to test coils, compression, power balance, fuel pressure both in the shop and on the road, and a bunch of other stuff. I will say I was highly impressed.
Thanks for this! Been having same code except mine is cylinder 2. Swapped coils around and changed plugs and say codes. Going to give this a try. I've been dealing with it for months now
Same thing happened to me. After a week at the dealer they figured it out and replaced the intake manifold. I can't find an IMRC online anywhere. I just got the code again tonight, Ford really needs to redesign this system and have a recall.
Hey I gave a 2013 gt and once I hit 5k rpm and it pulls hard then once I hit 5k rpm it just doesn't pull like it used to it is like it is bogging out or something do you have a clue ?
Next time before you spend all that money on coils you could reach out to me I could tell you how to test every coil in the rarity of all the coils failing causing new misfires is super super rare good find on the manifold a lot of the old manifold used to also get carbon up and they would stick halfway and they would cause random misfires carbon buildup on the runners and stick the butterflies what it is it’s trying to make a single plane manifold and a dual plane manifold in one unit. I’ve been a Mastertech 27 years and there’s so many people at the dealerships working these days don’t even have a clue what they’re doing you’re exactly correct
My 2020 Mustang GT has had the cel blinking for about 20-30 seconds then turn off. It’s done that twice. Haven’t scanned any codes yet but now I’m a little concerned. Car doesn’t idle weird or I feel no hesitation in power. Regardless a new car with only 1300 miles shouldn’t be having these issues. I have an appointment next Monday.
Should I just replace the manifold altogether for a performance one, or stay stock? (Asking because I don’t want the same issue on a performance piece)
@@oscarsanchez8941 2018 intake manifold and then you will need a tune, so I just bought an ngauge and got a tune. Problem went away. The 15-17s have shitty flaps and they either get stuck open or closed. Common problem but don’t change out spark plugs or do “reset” of the computer. That’s all garbage. Just spent the money once and don’t waste it doimg everything else like I did.
@@AYETHATSREESE yea it was like 400 something for intake, my performance shop has a custom tuner. Find a reliable shop and don’t let them charge u up the ass. I’m not sure about Lund and PBD with the whole EPA thing rn.
@@chriswickster thank you! And one more question it said something about lockout required and it only includes gasket so do I need to buy the separate parts ?
I think I have the same exact problem. If changed my spark plugs and coils and still get ruff idle and engine code. It seems to run better once I get rolling but idle is ruff
Do you all think it’s bad for the motor if this issue isn’t corrected? Or does it just simply run crappy at low rpms. Mine does it but it’s bearable. Just a bit irritating.
kemnik1 well in reality naw it shouldn’t hurt anything. But! Technically this IS bad for the motor. At the lower rpm the engine isn’t getting the right air/fuel mixture and therefore creates extra load and can cause issues if it’s too right or lean. These issues could kill plugs or gunk the cylinder. Also not to mention you have one half of the engine running right and the other half running rough which creates an unnecessary load. It really is so minimal that in reality u would probably never see any effects of this but just know that it’s not good to have this. I say u make it a plan to get it fixed, but it’s not urgent. Just dont plan to leave it this way
Scott Boatwright thanks Scott! Makes sense! I’m shopping for the GT350 intake now. Speedy, but at least it’s an upgrade! ;) thanks again for the guidance.
Scott Boatwright it shouldn’t hurt anything. Remember these cars have 02s and widebands so no it won’t run too lean or rich for long. The imrcs are there to increase velocity of the air charge into the ports. With them wide open at lower speeds there will be some torque and response loss.
I have cops and plugs that aren't very old and not many miles driven on them I have 2013 GT, and I recently noticed a difference when wtfo throttle and like a Snell, getting ready to change my cops and plugs just n case I ordered wrong set for turbo or supercharged engines, but if I get this again well I have my 302 intake ready to go on but awesome vid very helpful, also noticed a difference n the sound went from screamer to deep, was also thinking maybe had a bad plug or coil for that reason
I have a 2017 mustang GT I just had p0300 and p0302 codes come up I myself had the same hesitation @6th gear in cruising speed @ only 15k miles , the loss of power was very noticeable, this is very good info now I know what to look for thanks 👍
Hey man I'm having that issue but mine also shows that I have more than 4 cylinder misfires just by changing the manifold will it take away the the misfire?
Andy Sanchez hmmm tough to say. It’s possible thats the same problem but seems like a bit much to be the same issue. I would start bu changing all the spark plugs, see if any of the codes change. If not, try switching the coils from the good cylinders to the bad ones to see if the codes move with the coils, if so then they’re the problem. This many codes could be a software issue and may need the computer to be reset. If i had to take a guess, i would think your intake manifold has a crack in it. Seems like quite a few people have had that happen, my guess is that your manifold is letting in too much unmetered air and is tripping out the sensors. If that is the the problem, then ya you’ll need a new manifold
Scott Boatwright yeah man I already switched my spark plugs and switched around my coils pack and still got the codes popping up and I'm assuming it's probably a broken manifold as well my dealership won't do anything about it cause they blamed the headers and my intake..
Andy Sanchez lol wow, yeah the dealers are horrible, if all u had was an aftermarket shift knob, they would’ve found an argument to blame it on that. Go on ebay, you can pick up used manifolds for $100-$200 in perfect condition, some are even new take off items
Scott Boatwright yeah man I've been trying to find the big deal about it but It's this man aha i got a new cobra jet manifold so I'm debating on buying a stock one as well.??
Damn I put gt350 intake manifold on and got p2006 and p2007 codes. The imrc sensors are plugged in and locked so I’m not sure why im getting those codes lol
TehZured on each side there should be 2 plugs. The top controls a solenoid and the bottom ones are positions sensors. Make sure all 4 are plugged in, it’s possible the bottom positions sensors are plugged in on the wrong side? Also make sure the actuator vacuum lines are all on. This sounds like either they are actually stuck open or the position sensors aren’t reading
Scott Boatwright lol I don’t know why but the imrc sensors underneath were in the wrong ports. Dealership said the gt350 intake manifold was reversed compared to stock gt one
Thx for the vid. My '17 is doing this now but it's cyl 2 (p0302) on passenger side. I guess I'll pay the dealer a visit when I get back from vacation. Already replaced the plug and did a coil swap between cylinder 1 and 2 and misfire remained on cylinder 2. Now the dilemma to let dealer replace or upgrade to the '18 manifold. If they give me shit about it being tuned, having, CAI and headers then I might just upgrade.
Same p300 code my gt has 68K miles engine light came on took it to lithia ford Fresno changed the spark plugs now light is in again debating to take it back or do it myself SMH
Peanut Butter the exhaust 🤣🤣 idiots
Did the new intake solve the misfire?
"Catback was the issue" LMFAO.
issue resolved after they changed the intake.

I'm sorry did you guys ever figured out what it was ? I'm currently having the same issue
Ron Sykes, how was swapping out the shaft(s)? Any tips? Thanks in advance!
YOU THE MAN! Almost a month trying to solve this issue!
Were You Misfiring, Rough Idle, Rich Air To Fuel Ratio? All With No Check Engine Light?
This is the best explanation I’ve ever seen. I had the exact same issue. The solution was to replace the manifold.
Also found an uncomfortable amount of oil in the manifold. The oems were back ordered so I had to get the gt350 manifold along with some catch cans.
After the first oil change the driverside was empty while the passenger side had a bit of oil in it..
these are good fun cars but after owning several new edge cars my personal opinion is “these are not made like the old ones”
After 3 months I went to turn at an intersection I thought the trans broke when in fact it was the half axle $$haft$$
Also eventually a few weeks later the transmission did break on me. Fast forward to a week after it being rebuilt I experienced the shifter getting stuck in reverse I would have to rip it out of reverse. Also I noticed gurgling or bubbling noises the car would run only at 20.0/afr under some acceleration and mostly under diminished load(downshifting or bliping) I would notice excessive heat coming from the shifter
Now it is hard to get the car in first gear it’ll go straight into reverse won’t allow me to get into 2nd.
Half axle shafts can be a hit or a miss my car had 4 previous owners and I’m sure yours may be fine but any drivetrain part on these cars seems to break (reading other comments on them)
Also that transmission.
MMR makes lockouts now that keep the intake butterflies open full time. Wouldn't this solve the issue?
Sorry 1 bad lube tech who didn’t actually know what he was doing worked on your car one day. Not all Ford service centers are bad
out of the 4 ford dealership in my area, one is good. my wife has a nissan and I thought I was going to have the cops called on me there.
(Recognize the decal and wing, small world)
Same here. 2017 GT with the same issue. Thank you.
William Parker yeah sounds about right. Mine didn’t feel like it jerked much but it did have a little hesitation
Was reading about this in multiple postings and just did the same and replaced the manifold. Old one didn’t work and car runs great again and no check engine light. Total costs around $140 vs. Ford talking about 2k.
This helped me solve my problem! Thanks the ford dealer near me did the same thing to me wanted to keep the car and I wasn’t having that
Kevin Boullard awesome! That’s why I posted it, I figured we all are in the same “screwed” state together. From my experience I knew Ford would be worthless in helping
man!! i got to try this I'm getting charged about 2k for replacing all this parts 😬😬
So did you buy the same intake manifold for your year or did you get another years and just replace it ?
Yup just dropped mine off today at the dealer for the same issue same codes thank God for warranty coverage
thank you. ran rich and had same codes at Road America today and had to leave track session early. dropped the car at the dealer. they promised to replace if it's the manifold.
I have the same exact thing in my shop now. Great video. Confirmed my theory.
I have a 2013 5.0 with 54k miles and mines misfiring 1-4, would this be a reason? I switched out my spark plugs already but still misfiring
Did you ever fix your issue? Mines misfiring on cyl 3
JB1O bro same with me cylinder 3 please be alive and tell me you fixed it!
Kapss 08
I ended up installing a o ring on the crank position sensor I think. It’s crazy to think I had this issue 2 years ago but all I remember was there’s a sensor behind the left head on the backside in youre lookin at the engine from the front
Crank shaft position sensor. Its caused by the sensor being “loose” and not giving the ECU an accurate reading thinking that engine is misfiring
Brandon Padilla okay will look tomorrow thanks man!
So basically, its a broken acuator inside the intake manifold?
I've seen a few questions about if this applies to 2014 and older and the manifold here is different then the 14, so I dont think this applies to the 11-14 5.0
I just got my 2017 GT back from the dealer.. same issue...
so if i ported my intake i broke those flaps?
06 GT multiple misfire under load could this be the same issue ?
Wondering same thing.
Showed this to my tuner and wala...ty sir and youtube..
Hey man would your mustang loose power because of this ?
The 19 does, and same issue.

Thanks for this. Son has a 19 GT and getting this code
@@sudogallo did you ever end up finding the problem
Do the v6 have this
Quick question was your runners stuck closed for misfire to occur?
Did you get it resolved im having a misfire on cylinder 2, same car
dude i apreciated the information , really hope that my problem only be the coil and plugs pack of 2 and 8 cylinder...
Yeah man , Sometimes you just gotta do it yourself
Did you notice any rattling noise, like the so-called 2k Rattle everyone keeps talking about?
Did that noise go away when you replaced it?
With the runners mest up did u have adle issue as well ?
I have a similar problem but with cylinder 3, I tried replacing the spark plugs and coils as well, now I’ll try checking the flaps inside the intake, wish me luck 🤞🏻
How did it go?
Welllll....... the 2011 automatic gt doesn’t have the flaps, however I removed the engine wire harness and checked for any shorts or damage, didn’t find anything, so I reinstalled the harness and used dielectric grease for each connector, now the injector problem is gone but the check charging light is still on, engine runs better now.
Though I did replace the intake manifold with a new oem one, at the same time.
I really appreciate the fast response Scott. Is your problem fixed and if so was it what you described in the video as your solution?
2Morrowdesign oh wait what!? The gt350 manifold is doing this too!?!?
2Morrowdesign oh wait what!? The gt350 manifold is doing this too!?!?
I've had this problem for almost a year now and don't know what it is exactly so now I'm thinking it could be the manifold
Mine is having the same issues, 2017 GT PP 10,000 miles 8 track days.
Thanks
HAVASU1985 i saved my passenger side shaft before tossing the manifold. U gonna have Ford fix it? They may have you bring it back a few times before actually pulling the manifold, unless you have a smart dealership
Scott Boatwright just checked with the dealer this morning they're replacing the manifold
I think
Scott Boatwright and how much does that one go for?
Hi, I have 2017gt pp, supercharger roush 2300, and also error p0300, did you find a solution?

@@roybadrill4310 Yes. They replace the Cam Position Sensor and the Cam Phasers. Sorry to say, it cost me a pretty penny. Start with Cam Position Sensors since its not that expensive.

I had this problem and I changed the stock manifold for the boss 302 manifold. Do you know if the boss manifold has these flaps too?
The Boss IM does not have IMRC's. Hence the lack of low end torque
I'm starting to get this code but I have a ported 18 mani on my 16gt, with lockouts. Do you think maybe the sparkplug? I'm at 52000 miles. I have Ford performance injectors that where purchased when I bought the manifold
Same code for me and same manifold. What was wrong with yours?
@@NewBreedRising if you have an N guauge do a crank relearn. I did this about a month ago and so far so good, takes literally about 30 seconds to do
@@FJTabb thank you bro.
Did the crank relearn end up working? I just put on a ported 2018 manifold with 47lb injectors, uploaded my tune from vmp and now I have the dreaded cylinder 8 misfire, I’m praying tomorrow the crank relearn thing works as idk what to do after that
Also I have the sct x4 so hoping my tuner has the ability to do a crank relearn
Im getting this problem and i have 2017 roush charge GT. Im getting random misfires
What was the problem same here bro
Great vid 👌. Just had a few codes pop 75k on my 15 gt. Daily driven for 3 years straight winter and summer and it gets lots and lots of wot so my imrcs have had their workout 🏋️♂️!
Curious any luck removing the shafts ? I have an 18 mani I never bothered installing but looks like it’s time I do but I want to know if the shafts and flaps can be completely removed instead of just overpriced billet lockout plates.
How many miles did u have on the car
I got p0300 p0308 and p0302 u think it would still be the manifold? I’d have to check my spark plugs and coils this weekend I don’t wanna buy a new manifold yet unless I find out it is and I’m definitely not taking it to the dealership I’d appreciate the response.

Did it stall out on you
This is very helpful and yet a little discouraging, too.
It will be interesting if their attempt to fix it involves overwriting the Ford Performance tune was that the intake requires to run.

Hey I gave a 2013 gt and once I hit 5k rpm and it pulls hard then once I hit 5k rpm it just doesn't pull like it used to it is like it is bogging out or something do you have a clue ?

I just had this issue thanks for the video …
Next time before you spend all that money on coils you could reach out to me I could tell you how to test every coil in the rarity of all the coils failing causing new misfires is super super rare good find on the manifold a lot of the old manifold used to also get carbon up and they would stick halfway and they would cause random misfires carbon buildup on the runners and stick the butterflies what it is it’s trying to make a single plane manifold and a dual plane manifold in one unit. I’ve been a Mastertech 27 years and there’s so many people at the dealerships working these days don’t even have a clue what they’re doing you’re exactly correct
Can you help me?
My 2020 Mustang GT has had the cel blinking for about 20-30 seconds then turn off. It’s done that twice. Haven’t scanned any codes yet but now I’m a little concerned. Car doesn’t idle weird or I feel no hesitation in power. Regardless a new car with only 1300 miles shouldn’t be having these issues. I have an appointment next Monday.
Mine is doing the same thing. Brake torque it to 2k and hold for about 5 sec and it fouls all the plugs on the driver side
Should I just replace the manifold altogether for a performance one, or stay stock? (Asking because I don’t want the same issue on a performance piece)

muchas gracias sr. My el auto de mi cliente hace lo mismo en mi caso. son los dos lados
can somebody give me advice on a 2012 GT 5.0 giving me misfiring codes could it be that manifold
Speedy, but at least it’s an upgrade! ;) thanks again for the guidance.
foilhat71 thanks for the reply! Appreciate it.
Scott Boatwright it shouldn’t hurt anything. Remember these cars have 02s and widebands so no it won’t run too lean or rich for long. The imrcs are there to increase velocity of the air charge into the ports. With them wide open at lower speeds there will be some torque and response loss.

Yes one bank the passenger side the shaft was broken at the actuator, at the time dealer replaced under warranty.
@@fty150 bro thanks
2013 Gt's have this too? Or is this just new tech in the S550?
Newer cars only only, not the Gen 1 Coyote
Matt Glandorf Oh that's good to know. Thanks
TehZured do a imrc delete and retune the car for open flaps
Thx for the vid. My '17 is doing this now but it's cyl 2 (p0302) on passenger side. I guess I'll pay the dealer a visit when I get back from vacation. Already replaced the plug and did a coil swap between cylinder 1 and 2 and misfire remained on cylinder 2. Now the dilemma to let dealer replace or upgrade to the '18 manifold. If they give me shit about it being tuned, having, CAI and headers then I might just upgrade.
