I've only seen J.P. perform live once, at Merlefest more years ago than I care to remember, but that 45-minute set made me an instant fan. Good singer, terrific song writer, and master of anything with strings.
This is more than just a song to me. It's beautifully written even if we're taking the song literally, but the lyrics represent the fragility and shortness of life unlike any other song I've ever listened to. Passion, ambition, confidence, age, weakness, experience, emotion, connection, replacement, the continuation of time before and after an individual lifetime, all explained straight down to their roots. It's truly amazing.
Absolutely beautiful song, Nathan Rogers covered this song at Stan Fest this year with JP by his side on stage and made him tear up. It's was emotional to watch and wish I could have caught it on film!
“Just a lad I was of 13 years when my father passed away” I’ve always loved this song but that introductory line hits extra hard because my dad actually did die when I was 13. I didn’t embark on a naval life but I do relate to the theme and message of this song… suffice to say, this is beautifully composed and executed, I can’t say enough good things about how he performs this. Well done sir
John is an exceptional musician in any respect. If you have not heard him before, check out his other spots on youtube. If you ever get a chance to see him live, do it. You won't be disappointed.
never thought anyone could write another ''Jeannie C.'' but JP did it with the Molly May. I know what im doing this morning. Good one to add to my repetoire
Molly May in June… love it…
Absolutely beautiful.
Would love to go to my grandpa's homeland and see JP live .....
