This gives me so many happy memories of my Irish Grandad from Clonmell, Jimmy Farrell (Big Jimmy). God I mist him everyday, the kindest, most adventurous, funny, and generous grandad a boy could have.
In 1992, a friend whose father organised the concerts took me backstage, so I had the honour to greet Ronnie Drew, Barney McKenna, John Sheahan, Sean Cannon and Eammon Campbell. Nice elderly men who had loads of fun in what they were doing.
Never tire of listening to the fabulous Dubliners. Ronnie had such a sparkle in his eyes and that voice is memorable. Each one had his own unique qualities and they blended incredibly well.
Awesome song, I went to Dublin, Ireland this summer for the very first time and it made me want to go back there. It was amazing and It has become one of my favorite countries
a simple song, but so so catchy and easy to learn and tells it as it is for a lot of people, you know the first verse then ya know them all ;) but these guys performed it like gods, i've never seen anyone do it as good. RIP to all who have passed on. I thank you so much for all the memories and incredible music.
Ronnie Drew was born to sing that song, it was just waiting for Ronnie who had the perfect voice and style of singing to come along and make it a brilliant song, just like Lee Marvin, with wandering star, no one could better it, and the same with the songs Ronnie sings, his voice is perfect for the songs,R.I.P, RONNIE, you were a legend.
For those who maybe are wondering about the closing part in the video, is the theme from the Greek song "Never on Sunday" by Manos Hatzidakis (OSCAR award 1960, best song)!
I'm what is considered a prod. I'm not. I love your music. I wish I could've told you when you were alive. But maybe your descendants will make sense of it. Absolutely brilliant. I love nearly all the tunes. Tbh I don't know were I belong. But your music makes me feel happy 😊
This song we listened in Zagreb in 90s. And in 2018 maybe, Irish man McCarthy who was in Siroki Brijeg in Herzegovina, sang this hit to lads crew in caffe Pajo, today I heard he passed away, r.i.p. McCarthy. 🙏
As an Irishman who has sung this song deep in his cups manys a time, it gets bloody hard to remember what day you're on lol Generally when this is sung at a gathering, by the time you get a few verses in which day of the week you're on becomes a point of contention and the lyrics become more like "when I came home on Thursday ni...no, it's Thursday now. We just did Wednesday. Shut up John it's never Friday yet. Look, look, let's just go from Thursday, alright? Wheennnnn...."
Les paroles ont été adaptées en français par Graeme Allright avec pour titre "Ça je ne l'ai jamais vu" Belle interprétation de Ronnie et surtout jolie finale coquine avec "Never on sunday"

Funnily the song originates from Scotland or England rather than Ireland but the version The Dubliners sang was translated from Irish to English. An English song made famous in England by an Irish band.
@@TheDublinersOfficial It was a favourite of my Welsh grandfather (born in 1916) so I think it does originate from Wales, Scotland & England but Ireland did us proud with this version. Diolch, Thank-you and Go raibh maith agat xxxx
As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a horse outside the door where my old horse should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her, "Will you kindly tell to me" "Who owns that horse outside the door where my old horse should be?" Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk You silly old fellow, still you can not see That's a lovely sow that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But a saddle on a sow sure I never saw before And as I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a coat behind the door where my old coat should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her, "Will you kindly tell to me" "Who owns that coat behind the door where my old coat should be?" Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk You silly old fellow, still you can not see That's a woollen blanket that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But buttons in a blanket sure I never saw before And as I went home on Wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her, "Will you kindly tell to me" "Who owns that pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be?" Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk You silly old fellow, still you can not see That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But tobacco in a tin whistle sure I never saw before And as I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw two boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her, "Will you kindly tell to me" "Who owns them boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be?" Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk You silly old fellow, still you can not see They're two lovely Geranium pots me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But laces in Geranium pots I never saw before And as I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a head upon the bed where my old head should be Well, I called me wife and I said to her, "Will you kindly tell to me" "Who owns that head upon the bed where my old head should be?" Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk You silly old fellow, still you can not see That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me Well, it's many a day I've travelled a hundred miles or more But a baby boy with his whiskers on sure I never saw before
It was a shame when this came out, Luke Kelly was sadly deceased and no longer with us and he gets mentioned which is nice a shame to see Ciaran looking really ill and sadly he died not long after this show he was only early 50s.
Is the slip up and response by the band at 1:57 deliberate? I'm sure I've heard him do this before in another recording of the same song. Last time I thought he had just made a mistake, but now I'm thinking it's part of the song. Or am I just overthinking it?
