This is the future of LARP. It will be cringe to watch from the outside, but if you're actually playing with friends it will be nothing short of magical. Imagine if they add the ability to overlay your character over your real body. Your friends would see you as your character, but in the real world space.
I was just thinking this. I think it would be awesome if they incorporated something remotely like an overlay for your body. The potential is really intriguing.
I would actually prefer just for them to see my weapon.

we're in the "NES" era of VR and it's already mind-blowing what's being accomplished, imagine what this will be in 10-20 years once developers fully utilized their capabilities, things like ready player one and SAO are gonna be a reality and it'll be so dope

Well, so far from what I've seen, the better the lighting the better the passthrough quality. I've yet to see a dimly lit passthrough video without a ton of static. Just like older phone cameras that require a lot of light. That's all I was saying. As are most reviewers for what it's worth.@@iakobkv271

So apparently my camera just decided to BE OUT OF FOCUS for the entire gameplay portion, but I couldn't not include it. I wanted to demonstrate how much I was moving through the space and really give an idea of how active I was to accompany the gameplay. So hope you guys understand

I know dude I was so bummed when I saw the footage, my lens just took a poop and me cause all my others ones worked fine. For some reason the auto focus sensor was just scuffed on this recording :(

For playing in the same room, meta quest actually has a tech for this called shared spatial anchors. It probably wouldn't work in open environment too well though
then 2 years from now, all the public park will be full of adults playing AR,
and some will handing out quest

VR will end obesity, kids will exercise for a couple hours a day instead of sitting on the pc or xbox all day, such a good thing, I wish we got it earlier, I would have been in good shape when I was in school, now lets hope that we dont get any side effets from vr usage, because we dont even have 20 years of human testing, maybe people are developing brain tumor in the long run, who knows

Im jacked asf boy 4 years gym, im talking about incells siting on their computers 24/7, better than playstations and pc bullshit, I was overweight in school because i was addicted to consoles and pc, because this generation from 2010 upwards have been babyfeed on tablets and pc from the age 1, 5 year olds with gaming pc's, 2 year olds with tablets, 10 year olds with vapers and weed, ive seen it, y personally only use vr like 3 times a week for boxing because its fun and I go hard on it for like 30 minutes straight@@neetea2

When this starts to become mainstream we will solve world obesity, people will excersise for a couple hours now instead of sitting 24/7 on the computer, such an amazing achievement, everyone has a ps 5 now, imagine everyone gets a quest 3 or 4 in the near future
This reminds me of Swordplay on wii sports, just rapidly flinging your controller to get a bunch of damage off fast. A little weird.

Wow the hand tracking is actually pretty amazing here. The fact you can wield a sword without controllers.. pretty awesome. Can't wait to see more AR and Mixed Reality games like this come out.
Okay now imagine a fully fleshed out AAA Mixed Reality Sword Art Online MMO that's built like pokemon GO in a sense where traveling to different locations in the real world can discover you new items , NPCs , enemies , bosses , skills , ect.
I feel like with the way tech is progressing give it like 10 years and something as ambitious as that would probably be pretty common place.

I would think using this AR/VR outside would be way better than indoors as long as the battery lasts. Grass is like carpet.

Like, holy crap! Think of what the future could bring! Pokémon GO first comes to mind, and with the AR tech they have tried out I can totally see them going for it when the time is right. Throw on a pair of AR/VR glasses or goggles, and see pokémon on your commute, actually sneak up on them and catch ‘em, or see a raid pokémon tower above like in the first trailer… The possibilities are huge!
My brother had the idea of blade and sorcery MR, where you’d set up a large playspace and massive walls would come up around you to form a huge free roam arena. Once we have self tracked full body on headsets like this, we could even kick the enemies to our heart’s content! Add the upcoming combo hand and controller tracking and you could use one hand for sorcery and the other for combat!
I think this small combat demo really sold me on the future of MR, cause up til now I thought all of these were silly concepts that may never come to fruition. Now i’m fully convinced we are well on our way. I’m excited more than ever to see where we go from here.

Very cool stuff. Obviously the game is just a simple little tech demo but i see huge potential in this technology. I imagine in 3-4 more generations we'll have insane stuff like proper AR horror games.

It would be cool if they programmed it to take note of the direction of shadows in the room or outside via the cameras and match the monster shadow direction and lenght.
I was thinking the same thing.
Or atleast an option to change the light direction manually to match the IRL shadows, should be easy enough

It only damages the lenses apparently, and if you’re wearing the headset that can’t happen obviously. If you want to be safe just bring a bag that you can put the quest in as soon as your done so it isn’t exposed to sunlight off your face

Apparently, it only damages via direct sunlight. So most shaded or cloudy places will be fine

@@Lightmaster420 sunlight only damages the lenses, and no sunlight can get to them when your using the headset. its only a problem if you leave it on a table facing direct sunlight

This looks so cool, not imagine this with glasses and controllers like the niantic lightship headset and everyone being able to see enemies in the same place and same instance based on location and some sort of cloud spatial anchor as well as seeingng names above others heads like Minecraft ar could above other’s devices.
dude! amazing content. You are the first the show the real potential of this. Every other MR game look kinda lame but this is insanely cool. It dhows the real possibilities of this tech. Pokemon in real time with real fights....fitness apps that take you outside.

wonder if in for when AR mode one could print out markers to create boundaries that will act as virtual walls so you do not end up running on the street..of course you are not meant to use it outside but for these massive space required AR applications/games i think it would be needed.

I'm pleasantly surprised how the Quest 3 controllers handled outdoors. If that was Quest 2 controllers, the tracking would have been shot to hell. I used to put shades on the Quest 2 exterior cameras when I played outdoors to take out the glare.

Seeing this video makes me remember an idea I had for an AR game like this. The game would be a Star Wars RPG that uses a headset like this plus the addition of gloves and ankle trackers. The gloves would act as the controllers whereas the ankle trackers would track certain movements such a Force dash if you were a Force wielder to dodge an attack. The gloves would give hand tracking and gestures. There would different roles regarding Jedi, Sith, Rogue Force sensitive people, bounty hunters, or other play-styles. The entire game would be online so that you could play with friends. The game would be ran through a mobile device such as a phone or tablet. I'd go into more detail but this comment would be stupid long than it already is! hehe

would be much possible! it already can track the hand movement. Now they only need to tracck the shadow of irl shadows like the tree, then using its reference and or more than one reference, it can accurately makes the shadow facing the same way

There already is some demo of AR raytracing on the varjo xr 3 for example, so it's definitely doable on pc vr but it needs a nvidia rtx card and is not real time and you need to set a specific environment so you can't use it anywhere and doesn't work a standalone quest

It's called subspace hunter and is currently in the demo stage so what he played, you can just download and play for free. I think it's only on Sidequest so far tho

they are adding peer -> peer connection basically if ur on the same wifi you can fully see them
I hope there will be soon VR parcs where we can all hang out with our headset always on ^^

It won't, unless you take off the headset and allow sunlight to hit the eye lenses to damage the screens.
The external cameras will not be hurt by this.
It'll be fine just like the other dude said don't take it off in sunlight, if it's on your face the sun can't reach the lenses

Now imagine this game uses the WiFi 6e to create a local play lobby so that the data is fast and could even display oufits over the top too with a level system and event like pokemon go raids but in parks and not as often of course as smaller solo adventures possible both from home and out and about with the possibility of triggering said raid timer

this is more like the netflix movie "Memories of the Alhambra". Amazing movie for augmented reality. scary part of the movie was that the augmented reality persisted even after the guy took off the device n he started and he was entrapped in an ongoing battle n mystery that gave real sensory experience
I did a short doing this with q2 in cosplay but can't wait for q3
