I work in maintenance and they eventually want to make me a multi craft technician. This video helps get my brain going. I don't know why this makes it low voltage (I'll have to do research) or anything but I've seen it before working with electricians. We do a lot of 480V motors where I am, about to watch that video and see if I don't answer my own question. Sorry I'm just a nuts, bolts, and hydraulics guy.
Great video explanation. So useful to me in wiring the motor on my new-to-me Bridgeport which was wired for 480 volts (I watched your 480V video also). This helped me wire it correctly for 240V 3-phase. Thanks so much!
Jerry, if it’s brand new in box I would say it’s numbered or at the very least numbered. Never had my hands on a Weg motor before. I work on mostly Baldor and Sumitomo motors.
Thanks for the video! I’m a novice and trying to get my 3phase lathe connected to a vfd. My 9wire motor low voltage setting is wye like this one. My question is about 4,5,6. After wiring L1,L2,L3, do I just leave 4,5,6 capped together inside ? Also if the motor has no ground would it be acceptable to wire my own ground to the chassis?
Hiw ablut you show hiw the wires going out of the motor are connected I have two reds which i dont know what they are spliced to the old motor just melted down
I just wired my 3 phase motor but its running slower than my old one that was rated at same rpm. I wired it as low voltage. The nameplate shows 60Hz 230/460V RPM 1770 but also shows 50Hz 200/400V RPM 1480. How do know I which one I'm running? Have a feeling it's running as 1480 rpm
Hi i want to ask something. After u run the motor for 2-3 minutes, do u realize about the motor is become hot easily? I check the amp, i got quite high amp (5A) after run using this connection. And 1 more thing, i actually want to convert the panasonic inverter washing machine to using universal board (no need to replace original 3 phase motor if using this trick). But i have a problem that, while in wash mode, the motor only run in one direction only (usually running in two direction on off, in wash mode). Can u help me if u have any idea. Tq.
Hi, I have a U.S. brand # p63tyeke-4993 2 hp 200-230 volt 3 phase motor with only 3 wires coming out marked 1,2,3. How can I wire this to 220 volt single phase?
question if you can help me running a VFD with this motor I have 3hp model number EM3611T. i want to power it with a house hold 220/240 single phase power converted to 3ph 230v. the VFD from amazon i want get says it puts out 3 phase 220v not 230v? my motor is 3hp 230/460v
Kyle, always remember the word B.O.Y (brown / orange / yellow) brown is usually L1, orange is L2 and yellow is L3. Now I can’t guarantee every conduit will have those exact color code, in those situations I can simply hook the wires up and see if the motor turns the direction I desire. If it doesn’t I can simply pick any two line and swap them and your rotation will reverse. Hope that helps.
@@waynesgarage8579 Thanks Wayne! The key was in realizing the order of connection only affected the direction of rotation! Had I have known that first, I would have just tried it until I got it the right way. Thanks again!!
I just purchased a 5hp 3 phase Compressor. It has a dual voltage (230/460) motor The Company that I purchased it from had already re-wired it to 230 low voltage for tbeir usage.. It worked find at their shop (230v). I have added a 35ft 30A 250v power cord to it. However, it will not run. It has that low voltage Hum!. But can't get started. This is a 9 wire motor. No start capacitor is needed!. don't have a switch or Breaker. Straight plug. It fill like low voltage to start. Fill like it does not want to be plugged in. But the main Breaker does not kick out. Any Ideas?
Why does your motor have more then 6 wires coming out? I thought there are 3 sets of windings which should be a total of 6 wires then 3 more for l1, l2, and l3?
Hi is it possible to use 3 single breakers @ 120 volt to run a 3 phase machine? The machine only uses 3 phase for electrical purposes, not powering a big 3 phase Motor.
Hi, I have a 3 phase motor which I wired according to your video to a single phase 220V.It came with a switch with 3 wires going to and from the switch. The power lines are missing from this Machine ( BIRO 34, meat saw). I bought this used. Now, how do I run the power supply to the switch and do I change the switch. The power supply comes 2 wires and a ground. Thank you.
Awesome but need more info for a novice like me. Don't understand the diagram and what settings on ohm meter to sort out colors of wires etc. Need way more info for a dummy like me. Thanks and a great job.
I don’t understand you just hooked up 3 hot wires L1 L2 and L3 but the title of this video is hooking up 240v..... 240v is single phase so shouldn’t you only wire nut together 2 hots? A L1 and a L2????? Did you mean 208v 3 phase?
You know what? You guys just assume anyone who would be watching these videos would already know WHY you are hooking this motor up the way you are hooking it up and they just need to be shown how to find the correct wires or how to figure out which wire is which in order to hook it up the way they already know it should be hooked up. Just once I would love to see a video explaining WHY it is being hooked up this way. I would love to see a video that is “too long” so to speak explaining everything from scratch assuming I know absolutely nothing about how a motor works. I would love it if someone could explain the wiring diagram to me instead of assuming that by looking at the wiring diagram I would somehow intuitively understand why it’s being hooked up the way it’s being hooked up, like that would explain it all. But don’t feel bad, like it’s all your fault. I have searched and searched and I have NEVER found a video explaining WHY you’re doing what you’re doing from scratch. That may be deliberate for certain liability reasons or because I don’t deserve to know or I wouldn’t understand unless I’m at a certain level or higher. Whatever the reasons maybe you could go against the grain and be the first to explain ALL of it instead of the part that if I personally understood the rest of it I probably would intuitively get without you having to show me. I can promise you one thing though. If you did, you would reach a much broader audience. Or I could figure it out on my own as a layman. Then I could explain it to others on those terms and I could reach a much broader audience.

how do you reverse the rotation?

no, conection is 220V 3 phase

yes it is i think 230v but is it from the grid in the US or maybe a generator ?? or dedicated transformer , we do not have grid 3 phase 230v in UK .
i just thought 230v 3 phase VFD .
can a 9 wire 3 phase motor be connected to a 2 terminal air compressor pressure switch?
