I've been listening to "Physical Graffiti" since 1975 and it forever remains my favorite Led Zeppelin album....and I'm a HARDCORE LedHead. Hearing the change-overs of the LP sides is INGRAINED in me. I'm also of the opinion that "Custard Pie" and "Sick Again" are THE GREATEST album opener and closer EVER......and I will go to my grave with that opinion. 🤩
Nearly half a century since it's release.....I'm an old man now.......Where does the time go?!?

Dude; are you f'n kidding me?! I have been watching many of your other impressive videos-but I was absolutely captivated by your "St. Mark's Groove". If this is something you created with some foundational elements of Kashmir-it contains some epic, Rock God's of the 70's chords that I would listen to then-or now. Major props for your comprehensive work on these videos and your talents as a musician yourself 🌟

One of the best reasons (I feel) of all of the crystal clear, perfectly balanced stereo soundboard tapes from 1975 is that: we all get a front row seat to hear John Paul’s work. In fact one of the main reasons I’ve loved Zeppelin all these years for is because we get to live vicariously through the insight of John’s (and the others of course) thought processes. Kashmir live from the US ‘75 tour is something that Jones could handle. Between the Hohner keyboard atop the Mellotron and bass pedals, he had it all covered. When the songs drawn-out ending begins when entering the key of G is where we get to hear the goods. It’s like having a full orchestra in one man. We’re all forever indebted to Mr. Jones. I recommend to all here to go back to the Dallas tapes, St. Louis, Nassau, N.Y., Baton Rouge, Vancouver and Seattle board tapes and check out Kashmir once again…to hear the master at work on top of Bonham’s HUGE bass drum trudge.

I paid 100 dollars for a “reprint” from 1976. assuming yours is screen printed and not an iron on graphic, those original 1975 tour shirts were printed by winterland productions. they licensed some of their tour prints from this 73-76 era and reprinted them in the following years. an original is worth 300 dollars easily.

Another great job as always JCM - thank you. Funny story on the 1973 robbery at the Drake: was watching the movie on VHS at friend's home around 1982 - my friend's dad was retired NY police officer....walks in and instantly states: "oh - led zeppelin - I am coming up in the next scene" - friend and I like at each other like what? My friend never knew it, but his dad is the officer driving the patrol car that takes Grant in for questioning - said he met the members and they were all gentlemen - he did say they looked a little worse for wear (party the night before???) and that Jimmy was asking Grant for cash so he could go buy records! He also stated the police thought the money was stolen by a member of the hotel management staff. One of the books I read mentioned someone they thought stole the money who worked at the hotel who suddenly retired and moved to the carribbean!

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories not well, but the band mentioned in the review, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, recorded at one of the studios I work at, so would often see them and chit chat with them. But this gives me reason to do so next time I see him.

Glad to see that you are going to include some of the cuts from one of the best bootleg's that I have ever heard, the name I know it by is Physically Present but it probably has a dozen others. I saw it in a record store (remember those?) and it was behind the counter in a glass top case and I asked about it. The guy said he didn't know much about it so I asked if I could listen to it, he said sure. It starts off with the run through of Custard Pie, and immediately I said SOLD! It was far and away the most I had ever paid for a bootleg CD! Bootlegs are traditionally expensive, but this was like $80 that was a shit TON of money for a bootleg CD! I took it home and listened to it, and then listened to it about twenty times in a row! I brought it over to my friends house and told him, you HAVE to hear this! My buddy was the ULTIMATE LZ fanatic! He & I loved everything Zeppelin! He had a look on his face when the version of In The Light started that was like looking at the face of someone watching their child being born! We listened to that entire thing 10 times! We got hammered and just enjoyed hearing the different ways they were putting all these songs together, it was great! My buddy passed away suddenly from a heart attack a number of years ago, it devastated me. I never got to say goodbye, and we really loved each other. I miss him a lot! That bootleg makes me think about him, and it makes me feel good that we shared that together. There are people that try to convince you that it is fake! It's a tribute band doing an impression of Zeppelin. If you are a true student of Zeppelin, you know it's them. I know those tapes were stolen from Page a number of years ago. So yes, it's Zeppelin! Raw and real! Hope you will play the version of In The Light with the different lyrics and the harpsichord intro. Looking forward to the next video!

Jose !!!! What really makes your videos compelling is your personal connections to the albums and music. That is what intrigues me and I connect with also as we share the same deep passion of Led Zeppelin. I enjoy the time capsule spots you put in the videos. The time and effort you put into these is wonderful. I do not have the patience or talent to do something like this but I have plenty to offer in passion and sharing my collection and thoughts. So ignore the haters I would like to see them try and do better. Now on to Physical Graffiti. Such a monster to lay down a time line and I can see why its been building up in the back of your mind. Ten Years Gone is a top track as also Sick Again from PG but who am I kidding I could never rank them as it would be a tie with all the songs. I have heard many that feel they could of had a single album and then saved songs for another. Being this is still one of the best selling double albums of all time I think they did ok. Many also say it marks the excess of the band being "over the top" at this point with the 3 hour shows and luxury tours etc. It was a very challenging time with Jones and Plant and the events that would come will make it even harder to overcome. In my eyes this band can do no wrong, I don't care what the haters say. PG its a epic body of work and some of the best riffs in rock!!!!

Vance! Thanks so much man, i appreciate it. Working out the script for this one has been tough, specially the intro, because i wanted to say a lot heheheh. Graffiti you can sense is not my favorite but...this series has helped me A LOT to understand a gray area period for me and to better understand what they were dealing at the time. I still confirm the 1973-1974 stuff they recorded is mindblowing, i love these songs. Where the story is leading me...it's fascinating because i can see a big picture that really affected the whole INDUSTRY you know? Funny because now it seems Houses was their least focused work, and i love that album, but the more i do Graffiti's timeline, the more i see it.....maybe i'll do a video one day on this. Working hard to make it all happen. Hope you are doing well, and enjoying the fine Chicago restaurants i hope i can visit one day!

There are great albums that are a mere collection of songs, required by the record company, contractually: then there are major album projects: Pink Floyd The Wall, Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club, etc. The vibe of the album and Zeppelin's musical growth puts Physical Graffiti squarely into the Major Albums category.

Cassettes - not that you said differently - were in 1973, cheap, plentiful - and if you were lucky - of suprisingly high quality.

I used to own HQ Cassettes, i miss them....Vinyl i find it to be unstable you know? CD's for me the most reliable format. Thank you for watching!

      @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Agree.
Totally unscientifically - but pretty damn unlikely to be 'coincidence,' but because analog formats have those weird 'moments' when something unusual "pops out," that makes you go wow - most people love tape. I've played cassettes on a Nakamichi to folks without them knowing it's a cassettes - for young folksway too young for tape, to, everyone...they say stuff like "this makes music fun again."

    JCM: great job as always.
About Kashmir, did you ever notice that Jimmy always starts the main riff with the upper A note? I noticed it when sometime ago I heard a outtake with Page and Bonham playing alone, then I started to do some research on live vertions and I confirmed that he always start the riff like that.
Thak you so much for tthese precious documentaries.

Hey Man What's happening! Yes, i've noticed plays the upper A note as in a Fifth or D5 power chord. It definitely adds character to it. Thank YOU very much for watching. Stay tuned for Episode 2!

"Graffiti" contains a tremendous amount of variety, a good amount of experimentation, and it rocks as hard as anything they had done before. But it also shows excellent advancement in maturity and songwriting. It gets my vote for the perfect example of the best mid-70's hard rock.

it's my favorite Zep album but it just makes me to sad to think about the way Page Plant and Jones avoid each other now. But Jones did an AMAZING job doing "Levee" with the "Playing For Change" virtual musicians.

Love those personal anecdotes at the beginning. I've broken so many two-cd jewel cases because the damn things never opened right. In lieu of buying CDs I always bought two cassettes instead because I got more music for the price, and I picked up PG and Presence.

Glad you dig my personal experiences with these works! I battled my way through that jewel case and guess what, it's broken now, i think that happened some 10 years ago. Cassettes were always a great deal indeed!

Peter Grant best rock and roll manager? I agree WHOLE-HEARTEDLY. Grant was willing to die for this band. Grant was like the 5th member.....much like Brian Epstein was for the Beatles. No ONE comes close.....no one.

Yeah, no one comes close. Peter Grant's loyalty is a ONE OF A KIND thing in rock and roll...unlike Don Arden.

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Unlike two other bastards - Stan Poley (manager of Badfinger., I believe...and one of the saddest stories in rock and roll)......and Allen Klein....his crimes stretch back to Sam Cooke...much less the Stones or the Beatles.

Oh yes Klein certainly is a dark page in rock and roll....Paul McCartney never trusted him, wise.
