I also love how you pay attention to their stress levels. A couple of times I thought he was going to calm down, but he went right back to worrying those boots off so I agree 100% with your decision to take them off. It's never fun to have to come up with a plan B when you're not sure you can even find plan B.

I know Apollo is incredibly miserable with those boots, but I couldn't stop laughing at him!! He's hilarious in his attempts. He is trying his hardest "GETTTTTT OFFFFFF!" Poor fella. I don't like to see him under this stress! The parade is really not that necessary for him to appear in, it would just be nice for him to be able to do it. He doesn't have a clue what's going on, it's simple us humans wanting to be able to have him in the parade. I hope in your "thinking cap" you come up with some other solution, but I don't know what that would be. My heart goes out to Apollo.

The it’s obvious the boots need to be changed. Not only is. It a dangerous situation for humans and the other horses but it’s causing more problems with him. He will fight any type of material on his leg. Please take them off asap, he is such a beautiful animal! 🌷

Wraps/bandages may be better since they are more fitted. I never laughed so hard at seeing him cross his legs but yes that kicking was hard and the poor boy is aggravated.

Very intelligent boy. I had a beautiful Belgian Groenendael Sheep dog I was taking to classes for us to learn to Show. He was not happy in classes...bored & didn't like some people. After about 2 months I decided it wasn't for him......he was telling me. Now Agility Classes were defintely to his liking. We both were much happier. I hope you and Apollo come to some kind of understanding/agreement that suits you both. He is a beautiful and intelligent animal. Thank you for sharing you videos.

I do so hope you can find something he doesn't mind, I agree it's too much to see him for whatever reason unable to tolerate them on. Good on you for trying to figure out some other way! But your videos always make my day more cheery and Apollo is a very funny smart horse. I have a Lusitano from Portugal he is super sweet but doesn’t have pizzaz like Apollo. Looking forward to seeing what possible alternative options you come up with for Apollo's parade requirements. He sure was using advanced horse reasoning to try and figure out how to get those irritations off his legs! He had the other two pretty stirred up, too. And it was impressive to see Bella be able to rear, twist and buck...all at the same time! She's so athletic! I hope Apollo likes your next attempt better than the boots, but it IS strange he used to accept them before. Hoping for the best outcome❣

It is so fun to watch this video where one can really observe the different moving styles. Farouk is ever dainty, speedy and so fast in his change of direction. I consider Bella sturdy and quick but not like Farouk. Apollo is commanding and large and in charge. So amazing.

What a clever horse Apollo is trying to pull off the boots with his legs. Apollo seems to have forgotten he has worn boots before, he is really throwing a fit and could pull a tendon contorting his legs in unnatural positions to get them off. Try bandages on him the pressure is spread more evenly and they are softer perhaps he will be more tolerant of those. One could always paint his legs white and fake it! Bella thinks it is all a bit of fun and wonders what the strange things are on Apollo's legs!
Thank you Tara, I was really stressed watching Apollo try to take his boots off. As disappointed as you may be, finding an alternative or calling off his participation in the parade is wise. On the other hand, seeing Bella run interference between Apollo and Farouk was very interesting. Not sure why she did it. Perhaps she was trying to protect Apollo because she knew something was wrong? I would be interested to read what you and others think. I am not a horse behavior expert, Just simply interpreting what I thought I saw.

Maybe if Bella wears some boots, Apollo will see how stylish she is and follow along wanting to wear them also. She probably wouldn't mind them at all. He really is quite a clever boy trying to remove them. I can just hear him thinking. Boots are for humans Mum and I'm not going to wear them!
Oh, Apollo. He’s temporarily breaking out of his mild mannered Friesian mode. As an aside, my *goodness*, do you have three gorgeous horses. It’s so amazing to see all three of them, in their shiny spring coats, active and prancing/bucking around. They’re such an interesting group of breeds, each a contrast to the others. Tara, you are a very adventurous horsewoman!!
I really do hope that you find a workable solution for Apollo's boots issue in time for the event. If I am awaiting in expectation for this one in a lifetime event, I wouldn't even try to imagine how you must be feeling now so close to the day and finding out that you have a last minute problem that could trigger a cancellation. Hes so funny..he reminds me of my 4 Yr old self and my mum used to make me wear this itchy polo neck jumper, it used to iritate me so much and I used to pull it in temper and annoyance!!...😂
Poor Apollo! I have never seen a horse that distressed over what we in the States call splint boots. He is indeed a clever chap and he surely did his best to get those awful things off his legs!😜 What about Vetrap? Not sure what it might be called in the UK but it is extremely light and used as a bandage wrapping in the States. You made the right decision in deciding not to try any longer to get him to adjust to them. I agree it was distressing to watch even though he is in absolutely no physical discomfort, he surely thought he was and that is all that counts.

What a pickle! I would not want to ride him in a group setting knowing how agitated he could become. Even if he settles down to « just » stomping, it’s hard on the hooves and he could hurt himself. Don’t give up. You have a couple of days. Perhaps hand feeding treats s while wearing the boots? Good luck 🍀
Poor Apollo he really wasn't happy I was getting stressed watching him as well and like you said Tara it's not going to work on the day you can't have him fidgeting and upset, I'm glad that he is ok with the white bandages it would be a great shame if you had to miss going, but he was very clever the way he was trying to get the boots off such a sweet boy.

On the other hand, seeing Bella run interference between Apollo and Farouk was very interesting. Not sure why she did it. Perhaps she was trying to protect Apollo because she knew something was wrong? I would be interested to read what you and others think. I am not a horse behavior expert, Just simply interpreting what I thought I saw.

Maybe if Bella wears some boots, Apollo will see how stylish she is and follow along wanting to wear them also. She probably wouldn't mind them at all. He really is quite a clever boy trying to remove them. I can just hear him thinking. Boots are for humans Mum and I'm not going to wear them!

As an aside, my *goodness*, do you have three gorgeous horses. It’s so amazing to see all three of them, in their shiny spring coats, active and prancing/bucking around. They’re such an interesting group of breeds, each a contrast to the others. Tara, you are a very adventurous horsewoman!!
I really do hope that you find a workable solution for Apollo's boots issue in time for the event. If I am awaiting in expectation for this one in a lifetime event, I wouldn't even try to imagine how you must be feeling now so close to the day and finding out that you have a last minute problem that could trigger a cancellation. I wish you and Apollo the best. 💕

Poor Apollo! I have never seen a horse that distressed over what we in the States call splint boots. He is indeed a clever chap and he surely did his best to get those awful things off his legs!😜 What about Vetrap? Not sure what it might be called in the UK but it is extremely light and used as a bandage wrapping in the States. You made the right decision in deciding not to try any longer to get him to adjust to them. I agree it was distressing to watch even though he is in absolutely no physical discomfort, he surely thought he was and that is all that counts.

What a pickle! I would not want to ride him in a group setting knowing how agitated he could become. Even if he settles down to « just » stomping, it’s hard on the hooves and he could hurt himself. Don’t give up. You have a couple of days. Perhaps hand feeding treats s while wearing the boots? Good luck 🍀
Poor Apollo he really wasn't happy I was getting stressed watching him as well and like you said Tara it's not going to work on the day you can't have him fidgeting and upset, I'm glad that he is ok with the white bandages it would be a great shame if you had to miss going, but he was very clever the way he was trying to get the boots off such a sweet boy.

Perhaps when he is in the parade, Apollo won’t notice that he has his white boots on. To busy showing off. You could put lots of talc or chalk on his legs !!
