Cool sheath... An 8 inch blade knife has always been my standard outdoor carry. Anything smaller is more task specific. Bigger is a heavy blade Machete 12 to 18 inches... a real work horse!
I've have a Meat Cleaver I have used like a mini machete for about 30 years, used on hunting trips, float trips, snowmachining and general camping. its been a great tool.
I haven't tried Kydex, but have used leather for ALL of my sheathes. I must admit that I like the "natural" nature and feel of using leather. I had an original army machete, and loaned it to a mate who was dying from pancreatic cancer to use of a last bush camping trip. Then he passed away while I was OS for work, and his family said that my machete couldn't be found, but I am sure that a son took it, as he raiding his dads workshop for whatever he could carry, within days of his passing.. Since then, getting another original has been impossible due to restrictive law changes, so I have given up on getting another one.
Ive really liked the condor terrachete. It is absolutely the perfect fit for me. Its design looks like a barong so it's like a weapon i train with as well as a amazing tool. Plus the sheath is ambi which is something not easy to come by. In my training over the years the only thing id call a true survival knife is a machete. Every army has used one an still do.
Bolt in a canvas loop at the top for a drop belt loop...just an idea....been wanting to make a sheath....got the kydex months ago but u know how it goes....lots of awesome pointers and ideas... awesome video 🫡
Taping the blade and handle would have given you the tolerance you need to remove the knife easier. Thank you for an interesting video. Snow is better than rain.
Here in Quebec, the most impressive bird is the Ouuuch Ouuch bird. It’s a bird with a body as big as a golf ball, and balls as big as oranges. Every time he lands, he cries out Ouuuch Ouuuch. The first time we hear it, it’s terrifying
Coincidentally I am building a “KNIFE” of about that same size around a blade and brass fittings I purchased from Ragweed Forge. The style is “Laplander” based upon the EDC knives that the Lapland people use for everything. Those style and size knife like yours there would be a great choice for a “One Tool” scenario. Thanks for the video!
@@JakeRyan-k6hI was just wondering the same, made my first some 45 years ago, hhey are roughly what this is, different handle and so but functionally same.
That is a really cool knife. I think I’m going to make a kydex sheath for my machete. The cardinal is our state bird of Indiana. Two good videos in a row! Though I do like most of your videos. 👍🏻😊
8 inch is perfect as long as it's tip heavy. You could do a 3 pancake and have an area on back of sheith for a 6 inch bastard file to take nicks out of blade
@ New Hampshire state raptor. State bird is the purple finch. I enjoyed these two videos BTW. Among many actually. I have a machete in progress based on one from a while back. Based on the same $20 big box blank. As a land surveyors son, I grew up swinging machetes. Keep at it.
Yep looks like a pretty cool knife. Are you extra chipper lately Jason or is that just extra coffee? I know you are usually in a good mood but it seems a lil extra lately. Haha I’m with you on that one, coffee really cheers me up immensely.
Here in Brazil we use this small machetes as survival knives, it's a classic.
I use an electric flat griddle to heat my kydex. Great video, Jason! I love the drizzley rainy days also!
Great idea!
Cool sheath...

Looks awesome! State bird is a northern flicker. State flower is weed
That is a mighty fine survival tool.
I would love one of those micro machete 🇨🇦
Absolutely 💯 love 8-9 inch blades. Perfect in my opinion.

I hope you find it!

Taping the blade and handle would have given you the tolerance you need to remove the knife easier. Thank you for an interesting video. Snow is better than rain.
You just made a Dao. Though Dao are usually a bit thicker and distal tapered. 🙂

I’m going to try to make a sheath for mine tomorrow, how firm does the material inside wood form need to be???
Pretty firm to form around the blade.
In TN, it is the Mocking Bird. Flat Dark Earth is the color my wife wont let me paint the Bedroom.
22 LR for rivets, thats awesome

Mockingbird here. I bought a short machete over 30 years ago. Don't care for the handle ,so it doesn't see much use. Might have to modify it....

Thank you! 😊

There are grommets for attachments the would hold up better to 550 instead of just kydex.
I didn’t have any. Good call.
State bird - Golden Bosun.

State bird of Iowa is the American Goldfinch
Scissor tail fly catcher.
Never heard of it. What state is that?

A machete and a 22 rifle is the SHTF standard 😂
Tough combo to beat.
👊🏻👍🏻
Cardinal
Mosquito Ga!
Tis the California Quail.
Until 1948 it was the mockingbird.
Mockingbird

Ohio Red Robin
