In this video, Adam goes over how to have connection in the downswing through 2 simple drills. The secret to connection can be created by having the hands at the body's center throughout the swing. By having this connection, the golfer will be able to get the hands faster than the hips, preventing "spinning out".

If you are new to golf and just starting to introduce yourself to the instruction that is on youtube, STOP. This channel is really all you need. If you do not like his instruction that is fine, move on, but you wont find a better A to Z instruction that makes sense to the beginner all the way to the pro. This guy has a way of telling you what you need to hear and giving great visuals of what you are supposed to feel. So much of golf is feel, and he does a great job of explaining the why, and explaining what you should feel between good and bad. He is a great coach! Never met the guy, but he can coach his pants off online for sure.

I would call that "elegant". Such a perfect solution to a difficult issue that many young players struggle with. Top class coaching.

I’ve added the pump drill to my practice and warm up sessions and it’s great. I appreciate your ability to as a teacher to both tell and show.

Love this drill. Most instructors are emphasizing hip separation from the upper body during transition, but if your range of motion is maxed out at the top of the backswing, trying to create separation is going to cause the upper body to come across and go over the top. This approach keeps my swing more balanced and consistent.

This came out at the right time for me- woop woop! Still got a long way to go but I'm starting to be able to keep my hands and arms in front, and it's making me realise how much speed/energy/efficiency I was losing fighting to get around myself. On the cusp of a total breakthrough regarding this aspect of the swing. Always knew this but other stuff had to change 1st, so I could achieve it. For me, it was my coach telling me to swing back with more chest turn, with what I perceive as super short with club more vertical (like your wall drill + big turn-short arm swing concept), now everything else is incrementally falling into place. These videos are coherent with my lessons, and are proving to be a great supporting resource. Thank you!

Amazing video. A summary of what should be done in order to acquire an amazing golf technique. The technique he explains involve not only to sync hip and club, but hit the ball putting into the equation the abdominals, gluts and triceps. I think there is not better technique to balance compression and consistency.

Thanks for this, I've been helping a friend (and myself) who was a bit "armsy", and told him to feel more like he was hitting from his sternum. This is a better way to illustrate the feeling. Will definitely help me, and hopefully himbas well.

Hi Adam, great lesson once again! Love your work.
I was wondering if you could could do a lesson on the follow through (if you have any students that have a similar problem). When I attempt to cover the ball, I tend to move a lot forward through impact (head and upper body clearly in front of my lead leg in follow through) and I also struggle sometimes with my head getting in front of my body-hands through impact and hitting it behind.
My coach is trying to get me feel like my hands-arms do all the work, but that makes me feel very disconnected and I don't like the thought of 'just let your body follow your hands'.

Can someone clarify the swing sequence for me on the downswing? Should I be dropping the hands into the position demonstrated in this video before rotating through??

You can preach connection to most players and they don't change a bit. Go watch them 10 minutes later and they are right back to that hacker's swing. But when I went to a connected swing (which was not easy) my whole game went back to when I was 25 to 30 years younger. And I was very straight again right off the first tee. The first 4 inches of take-away is very critical just as Nicklaus always insisted. That's because it is the only place in the swing that consistent connection can be initiated.

Do you do a military discount with your online lessons? lol. I recently played the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island for $175 with a military discount... Couldn't believe it actually... I originally paid the $600 for it and I was walking down the 18th hole and my caddie looked at me and says... Did you ask for a military discount? I said, No! I went back into the pro shop and they refunded me $425 for the round... Pretty amazing day.

God I keep trying to do the pump drill, but my trail side isn't loading correctly so everything else is kind of getting screwed up. I keep flipping between thinking I need more hip bump, or my upper body is the one messing it up. When I have had it working, the pump drill is seamless, feel's like all you need is a 3/4 swing to hit full distance on everything. If you can load correctly, the pump drill is kind of the king of drills, hope I get to experience it again.

This may be due to the release of angles.
When you do that feeling, make sure 1. Your hips stay closed and 2. You maintain the wrist angles.
Once you get to that slot position, you are free to rotate through the ball!
