Thank you for showing us how you left the 1.3/8" ungathered on the inside of the gathered shoulder front piece so that the placket, once turned, lays flat. Unless I'm much mistaken, the pattern itself doesn't mention that at all, which is shocking really - as it's so important for the placket to lay smoothly. Your video was super helpful, I only wish I'd found it before I'd ripped that gathering part back for the third time.
Katrina, the blouses are gorgeous and the black floral one looks absolutely beautiful on you. You did a wonderful job on them and your sewing is impeccable. Take care and be safe.
I bought this pattern today (using your affiliate link) and can’t wait to make it. Love the way you finish the front placket at the bottom. I’ve saved this video in my “sewing techniques” folder so that I can refer to it when finishing the bottom of this cute top! Karina, thank you so much for sharing your awesome talents with us. Happy sewing!
Thanks for sharing...i am attempting my Ballad blouse today..will use all the very helpful tip you provided...i especially like the idea of hemming before the placket is sewn
Today I was shopping the Love Notions sale and saw your pictures. So, naturally, I had to look up the corresponding video. I just love that fabric you used. Of course I bought the pattern using your newest coupon code. Thanks
I made my Ballad blouse...oh how I wish I could have posted a pic here...thanks much for posting this video and the tips...I posted a pic in the Love notions fb group
Oh wow these are both gorgeous ! Just when I think I don’t need anymore patterns I was wrong . Beautiful makes and beautiful pattern . Thank you for this great tutorial.
I like that you made the button placket in a different color. I definitely will take advantage of your lengthening and slimming fabric choices. Great tutorial. A bit fast (talking) but well done. Thanks.
After watching your pin tucks technique video yesterday, I was very excited to see your makes for this sewing pattern. Polka dot prints always make me smile and I love your "welcome to Brazil" fabric as well. Now I understand the potential hacking options for this pattern by transforming the gathering ease into pin tucks! So exciting. I also started piecing together/using scraps for the insides of a garment to save fabric as well. You are a wonderful inspiration!
I have the pattern and the fabric, just need a contrast for the placket as I think it will look better with the print, and buttons. I'm learning a lot from your channel.
Gorgeous blouses, just had to get that pattern from your link. I have some fabric on order which will be just right for this, can’t wait for it to arrive now! I can only see flowers on the second blouse as well
Hi Karina, Thanks for this Vlog, and the pintuck Vlog. I think I got 6 patterns this weekend, and once I saw the Ballard blouse I knew I needed that also. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and your creativity.😃 Liz from S.Fla.☀️
Just lovely Karina! I think this is a must have pattern😊 I’ve finally gotten around to making the Ballard. Your video content was a nice addition to the well written pattern directions. So very helpful to walk me through a few extra steps. ❤️
I absolutely love your videos, you have made me want to expand my sewing from my usual tee shirts and sweatshirts. I saw this pattern yesterday and looked to see if you had done a video about it. So excited to see that you have. I managed to sew the Metra Blazer using your video and I know that I will be able to sew my first blouse following this video. Thank you so very much for making these videos.
Wonderful! I have been waiting for this pattern and am glad you are so quick to sew it into lovely garments. I wonder if you could add marking pens and chalks to your Amazon list? I need some more and could get some similar to yours. Thank Karina!!
Hi Karina, I just bought my first pattern thanks to you. I'm super excited to try it, think I'll try some shirring on my version, wish me luck. Thanks again for your super awesome channel, please don't stop teaching me 😊 did you try shirring before, please let me know also if you have any tips to share that would be great.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles wow, now I'm even more excited to see how you do it. I used shirring recently on the cuffs of a shirt. It came out beautiful and I love it. Looking forward to your video 😊
Another win from Love Notions! I realised I was wearing a hacked Lyric while I watched you 😁 Both versions are very pretty, but that fabric of official version is stunning! I'm looking forward to seeing the black pin tucked one soon 😉
I can't wait to see your hacks! I bought this almost the instant it released. Shirring is on my list of things to learn this year and my last trip to the fabric store included a few lovely woven fabrics, so the timing was perfect.
I love this blouse, and just bought the pattern. What I would like to know is HOW MUCH FABRIC this pattern takes I can't find that measurement anywhere, and I don't know if you mentioned it. Well done on these tops. Very inspiring.
If you look at the website where the pattern is listed, you’ll see a tab that says fabric requirements and you can see how much it is. It is also in the pattern instructions. I never mention fabric requirements on my videos because it’s different depending on many factors like fabric width, size and option of the pattern chosen. In my case, I use the least humanly possible with creative layouts, so the amount I use won’t work for everyone. I focus on the sewing :)
You make everything look so easy, must be your enthusiasm! Just beautiful! I was all set to make the Ballad in a beautiful deep sea blue rayon swiss dot crinkle challis and you advised against using a crinkle rayon because of the front placket. Is there anyway around this? If I used a sew in interfacing in place of an iron on would that work? Can you suggest another pattern for this crinkle rayon? It is so beautiful I would hate to ruin it. Than you for all your inspiring videos. I enjoy them all
The crinkle rayon would be ok in the interfaced areas but it will grow in all the others. It’s also difficult to work with. I’d make a maxi skirt like the Allegro because then if it grows, it’s just part of the design and there are only a few seams there.
I always sew my guide lines in a contrasting color so it's easier to see when pressing the edges under for hems or areas that need to be turned under. If you're going to take it out anyway, why not make it easier on the eyes? Yes, it's an extra step and a little more time, but well worth it, IMHO.
It makes no difference to me because I can see the color when I’m pressing in the raw edge 🤷🏻♀️. I don’t need another color. Maybe I will in the future.

I’m new to sewing clothes so I appreciate your teaching videos. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
My confidence grows with each video I watch. I can do this!

Thanks for sharing the way you do the bottom of the placket! I'm about to try that on my first Ballad Blouse.
Those bright colours look so good on you. The solid placket is inspired. Thanks for all the tips.
That’s a very nice pattern.
Did anyone else see the little monkey faces in the second blouse fabric? 🙂
All I see are flowers :)
Lol 😂 I also saw the monkey faces.

so happy to use them :)
Just downloaded this pattern. Can’t wait to sew it.

I love doing that :) and I use less of the main fabric 😅
I much prefer the curved placket - I would hack the pattern to make it that way!
Super easy to do :) I like it too.
Wow i love those shirts, great choice of fabric.
Thank you so much 😀

I bought the ballad blouse thru your link. Hope I find the courage to make it one day.
No need to rush. You can do it :)
I bought this I can’t wait to make it. I have some beautiful crepe do you think I should use something different for the placket?
It should be fine. The interfaced placket will be good :)
