I've met Billy 3 times. He is really down to Earth and cool. He used to date a friend of mine that had passed, and when I asked him about her, he said yeah her grandmother called me to tell me about her... this was after he had known her but hadnt seen her in probably 10 years. Rock on Billy hope you live to a 100.

People don't realize that Ed had a deal with Billy and had to make huge payments to sell those copies.
@edcassells Well, the original 'SG' was actually a Les Paul. From '63 on it changed to SG after the man Les Paul stopped endorsing them.

@jamescsf The SG used to be called les paul when it first came out, it even had a little plate between the neck and neck pickup that said "les paul". Billy probably refers to them that way because he was around when they first came out, or because Clapton's SG was one of the ones that had the "les paul" name attatched to it. could be either of those reasons
I wondered about that. Explanation makes sense. Although I was thinking “If BFG wants to call an SG ‘LP,’ then who the hell am I to argue?”

@LessthanJake14 actually, sg's were originally called les pauls, but les didnt like em, so they changed to sg, for solid guitar

The SG was Les Paul II , Les didn't like it & had his name tken off the head stock you can find SG's that are in fact "Les Paul" 2.0.
Watchman4u yes i have since cleared my ignorance lol. Eric clapton actually played a "Les Paul" that was what eventually became the SG Model in Cream. I stand corrected.

@EuthanizeReligion Which came first, the SG, or the double cutaway Les Paul model? ( the les paul special was it called?) I used to see a lot of double cutaway les paul models in the 70's. Joan Jett, Pat Travers, etc.

To be honest, I do not know why Ed is still in business.
I'm not familiar with his luthiary skills, which might be good or not, but I've seen some of the guitars on the website, and seeing him putting other companies names on the guitars he had made is just unacceptable. Isn't that a crime to create copyrighted products unauthorized under a companys name, and then sell them?
I wonder if at :20 seconds, that's Ace Frehley's guitar??? ;-)
It's an Ace Frehley model, it's not his actual guitar. Just like the Clapton SG is a remake, a model Gibson put out, it's not the one Clapton actually owned.

@teckogecko5 Actually,even though to you and i it isn't a les paul.If Claptons was a first year SG they did in fact have a "les paul" plate between the neck pickup and the neck.I believe those are the ones that got through production before Les himself could object; as the SG was to be the "NEW" lespaul model and when he saw them he fucking hated them.So Really i think the REV.Billy G. was correct.and anyway-WHO the fuck are you to question the coolest fucking man on Earth?just kidding.
Les Paul is the mother of the SG and this is the Eric Clapton SG from Cream...
Its not an SG ..that is a Les Paul...The origianl SG's replaced the Les Paul and took its name..Until LES got wind of it....They renamed it the SG which stood for solid Guitar And after many years the Origianl Les Paul design was re released many dont know that Gibson did not make the Les Paul for a number of years,,,Les Paul HATED the SG..His wife Owned one..lolol..It was White..Rick From Pawn stars owns it now..

I drove from phoenix to vegas to Eds home to show him an invention.I told him I also have a DVD of it.He said-'I can see it works just by looking at it'. He was pretty cool but he kept slipping in and out of sleep during the meeting.He was surely a 'different' cat. I was a little sad to hear he passed.

the first gibson SG shapes were called Les Pauls. Billy is just older and more knowledgeable than most. Les Paul didn't like the "SG" shape and distanced himself from them...but if you are old...you call original SG s Les Pauls....
