When B.B. King's opened on Beale St, that weekend was Memphis in May Blues Weekend (back when only 50k people or less showed up for the bands back then) and there was Gregg Almond just walking up the street (towards Rum Boogie Cafe, if you know the layout of Beale Street), gorgeous hair, walking like he had some place to be. Very nice, let us stop him to get an autograph. One of my very few brushes with greatness.
Up until Greg passed away the music of the Allman Bros. has been there all my life. Was a 6 year old kid when their first album came out. Then from age 16 till 3 years ago, nearly every summer included a trip to Atlanta or some other city to see the Allman Bros. in concert. Damn depressing to know I'll never get to see them again but thankful for all the shows I did make it to and all the great memories I have from seeing them over all those years. To me they will always be the best band ever. Imagine Duane, Greg, Berry and Butch are jamming out together again somewhere on the other side of the grass. Rock on brothers and thanks for the music and the memories.
I was there at this concert. Great band in a time long past. I saw them 4 times, 3 times before Duane died. "Whipping Post", "Don't Keep Me Wonderin' ", and "Statesboro Blues from the Fillmore East concert though were my favorites. There are only two original members left, Dicky Betts and Jaimoe. To all who are fallen RIP.
You are lucky, I wish that I saw them before Duane and Berry died. I didn't see them until 1975 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I only saw them 5 times. I miss the Allman Brothers, they were one of the best bands of all time.
I saw them in Sarasota in 1969 when I was 14 at the City Auditorium. Totally blew me away. Midnight Rider. Then Barry sang the Hootchie Cootchie Man. But Elizabeth Reed grabbed me the most. I said to myself, "they don't even have to sing". I saw them EVERY chance I got. And they rented a house in the Myakka River for all night rehearsals. It was fantastic.
It's amazing to me to watch Duane Allman play his guitar with that old cold medicine (Coricidin) bottle over his finger. After, I think it was, 1972 they made the bottle with seams in the glass and they didn't sound the same. They say each one had its own sound, so he'd sit with a bunch of them and try them out until he found the one with the sound he wanted. In an interview, Gregg Allman said he still had one of his brother's old medicine bottles that he'd gone to the store and bought for him, then watched him learn to play slide guitar with it. I also read in an article that a man who'd had another one of them for over 35 years as a concert keepsake gave it to Devon Allman, Gregg's son, who now has it back in the family. Very cool story.
50 years old...they are timeless.Amazing that Duane Allman played slide guitar with no pick.R.I.P, both Gregg and Duane. The “Eat a Peach “ album is a double album, too.
This video is amazing. Someone worked extremely hard to piece together smoothly visuals from several different performances to make it work. The power of suggestion indeed!
I worked at Capricorn Studio with them. Never a nicer bunch of guys! Back then, they were never too busy or conceited to share a few moments with a fan. I worked with Johnny Sandlin who produced their albums at the time and he was also a great guy. Many of them have passed on and it's sad. There's only two of the original brothers left, Dickey Betts and Jaimoe and i am grateful every day for that. As for those who have gone on home, they are missed more than i can say, they were a part of my world for 48 years, i became a fan at 15 yrs old and went on to work for them. God bless them. They're in my heart ❤ forever.
Gregg Allman could sing so very good.... Duane Allman played with such emotion... So good... They were awesome... R. I. P. To both Allman Brothers, Gregg & Duane.... Damn don't seem right...
Several songs from the concert (including this one) wound up on Eat a Peach, which was released after Duanes death. They were all collected together on a double CD called The Fillmore Concerts.
Just a note: Gregg Allman was married to Cher in the mid 70's. Duane, the slide guitarist, was a hired gun and played on Layla, songs by Wilson Pickett and Sam the Sham...died so young but was so productive and so talented.
This song is actually one of my earliest memories. My dad loved the Allman brothers and would play his records on Saturdays when my mom was at work. This is the first I ever remember hearing. Always loved it.
Back in 2022. So good to see how you get it. Can you just imagine being there in those days - when this music was your day to day music. On the radio. Playing vinyl in your bedroom. Lord, have mercy! It was too good. You're right. Don't make it like that any more!
Your melancholy & retrospective emotion after the song ended really took me back to those days when I was a youngster back then and reminded me of this amazing mass of great music. There is SO much music to re-visit and/or explore that maybe we haven't heard in many years. Excellent!
I was privileged to have been there both nights they recorded the live album in The Fillmore East. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. and I've been to a lot of great concerts, including Hendrix Stevie Ray, The Doors , Jefferson Airplane ,The Kinks, The Stones...you get my drift !
Great Allman Bros your doing. Please try from the album Eat a Peach "Mountain Jam" " Jessica" It was a tribute album to Duane Allman after his un timely passing. They named the album after a phrase Duane used to say if somebody had troubles Eat a Peach! They were from Georgia, and they grow lots of peaches down there.
And to think theAllman brothers were in their early to mid-'20's in this recordingĺ. Gregg's voice carries the weight of a man twice his age, while Duane played a combination of control & ease, like he was leaning against a wall, hanging out on corner. Gregg, meanwhile sounding so deeply soulful while looking blondly handsome- like a leading man. The brothers are gone now, to a place we hope really is rock 'n roll heaven. RIP Gregg & Duane, thank you for the Southern hospitality presented in your music. Also, as a fellow Southerner & Floridian, your music was part of the soundtrack of my childhood.
You are so right....They don't make music like we had anymore. The Allman Brothers Band is one of my favorite bands. Their music is great listening when traveling down the highway...Growing up listening to the music of the 60's and 70's was the best of times....We had really great music..
Same performance, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reid" I was 21..... back then. WOW time does fly... but I wouldn't trade youth for the time I grew up..... I'd go back and do it again and I'd only take the flip phone back with me.

The greatest American rock n roll / blues band ever. Greg Allman had the greatest blues voice of any white man that ever lived. He sounded black. The band was a guitar 🎸 🎸🎸 band .two and even three lead guitarists. No American band came close to these Cats. They created Southern Rock
Just a fyi, that video is ABB and it is at Filmore East and that awesome aufio is the live version recorded at FE, but it's not video of them playing One Way Out. Still such important song I'm glad you reacted to it.
Greg Allman aka the singer lived in a city not far from where I live in. Close to Savannah, Georgia, USA. Seeing as I mentioned Georgia, check out some Statesboro Blues by the Allman Brothers. Great track.
What do you call a band with 2 drummers. 2 guitars, a base player and the lead singer sits behind a 470 lb Hammond B3 organ. Some would say that’s musical chaos. Nah man that’s just the Allman Brothers
I still have my albums...I've heard people say; man I wish I lived back in the '70s..The music was great, the weed had to many seeds, the gas lines sucked and now I'm 63 with arthritis!!.......but "remember when"
please also Review live editions of Allman Brothers: a) Melissa b) Jessica c) Whipping Post. Great vocals by Greg, and tremendous guitar from Dickie Betts and Duane Allman. Both drummers compliment each other so well.
The song that you have to listen to is Blue Sky. The live version from 1971 SUNY at Stoneybrook is the best version of the song all time. I’m 49 and have seen the brothers over 50 times live.
live at Fillmore east is still considered one of the best live albums ever and you can see why! The Allman Brothers music always puts me in a place of calm and relaxation, Its like meditation for me. Ill put the record on the player, sit back and relax.
Yes it was magic in the making. Funny i just mentioned that in response to the previous post. The whole vibe back then was magical with them. They made it happen. There were bad times too. But they literally made it happen.
That was an obvious overdub. Done well, but that video is of a different performance from the audio. You're correct - no known video exists of the entire March 12 and 13, 1971 shows. And you would have to include much of their next album "Eat A Peach" to cover the entire audio released from those shows. Do it!
The ABB never disappoint. You’re right that music like this just isn’t made anymore. A rare exception that gives hope for the future is The Warning, a three sister band from Monterrey Mexico who are all still in their teens. They flat out rock! Give them a listen and see for yourself.
Tedeschi Trucks Band - Susan Tedeschi and husband Derek Trucks...the nephew of ABB drummer, Butch Trucks are laying down tracks in the same vein as ABB. And Leon Russell...and Delaney and Bonnie...and Joe Cocker...and JJ Cale...and John Prine...and.....on and on and on. TTB is a must-see.

Sadly, a little over a year later Berry was killed in almost the same way Duane was, on his chopper, 2 blocks away from where Duane was killed...You have got to do "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from the Fillmore album!..It is a 13 min. instrumental, but don't let that scare ya..You will actually think it was too short, but here's what I recommend; close and lock you door, and put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign..Put on your HP's. crank it to some comfortable decibels; and close your eyes...Take my word on this!..Trust me....You can thank me later...Enjoy!
You have to do the whole concert. It is the greatest live album ever recorded, in my opinion. You won't find video of it, as early Allman Brothers videos with Duane are very rare.
Actually there is live footage of the Fillmore shows on YT! Not the exact cuts that made the album, but from that same set of shows. Check it out, it’s amazing!
Texas Magnolia that is the blues, I hate that term “Southern Rock”, you can call some of their stuff that, but not that tune. It’s like calling Zeppelin metal. Oy Vey! Skinner is Southern Rock!
Don't even with me about the Brothers. I was in high school during their heyday in the early 70s. Tragedy stalked them, but OMG, in their prime, they were incredible.
If you like this song, you should do The Allman Brothers "Not my cross to bare" Greg was only 21 yrs old when he wrote that song. One of the most soulful song they have; in my humble opinion!
The Allman Betts Band or Gov’t Mule is as close as you’ll get to The Allman Brothers Band these days. The Marcus King Band “ Goodbye Carolina “ is worth checking out also. One of the best up and coming southern rock/blues bands today.
There really isn't much live video footage of Duane playing since he died soon after the band became famous. I don't think anyone would mind a reaction to the whole concert of Filmore East audio only
FINALLY back to some Allman Brothers!!! Whipping Post was the one that got you my sub and it's been a long wait.... THANK YOU! And YES! PLEASE do a reaction to the entire album! (All audio)
The Allman Bros. are true talent, especially Gregg. He was gorgeous. Greatly missed

Man, the way they storm into the concert with Statesboro Blues...unbelievable, man!
dickie betts, most underrated guitarist of all time, his les paul tone is phenomenal!!
He lives less than 10 minutes from me.
Duane Allman came back from the Derek and the Dominos session and said " Eric Clapton is no Dickie Betts".
@@jimystpats4483 Interesting
@@StrikitRich I'll pretend he his my cousin.

Any format works for me...its all good!
Berry Oakley and his Fender Tractor Bass which was a modified bass
Dickie never got the respect he deserved as a guitarist until Dwayne died. Definitely one of the best rhythm players ever. Great lead guitarist.
Their double album Filmore East is just one of the best Live music ever.
There really isn't much live video footage of Duane playing since he died soon after the band became famous. I don't think anyone would mind a reaction to the whole concert of Filmore East audio only
Did you just say that? Not much footage since he died?
@@1perfectpitch Not much footage Duane specifically. Obviously there's tons of live videos and DVDs of the band since then.
FINALLY back to some Allman Brothers!!!
Whipping Post was the one that got you my sub and it's been a long wait....
THANK YOU!
And YES! PLEASE do a reaction to the entire album! (All audio)
Yeah, sorry been a long time. More coming very soon.

It's all good, I know doing these reactions takes a good bit of work 👍👍👍
Like your Pittsburgh Pirates hat! ⚾️
Yes that is the best live album. Yes listen to it straight through. If not Stormy Monday for sure.
