I just want to pre-apologize for how I pronunce Primanti Bros. I just could not pronounce it right, so I just went with the way it came out. I just kept messing up when I said it the right way. My apologies Pittsburghers! We still loved Pittsburgh (if you can't tell).
haha, no worries! It's a very specific, somewhat nasally 'aaaa', rhyming more with the word "man" than the gentle "ahhh" sound. Was so wonderful to see my fair city featured on your videos. Hope you had a great time and visit again!
The reason why theres a little story about that with the french fries on the sandwiches, especially at the Primanti Brothers, there’s a little story When the truck drivers used to deliver especially down in the strip district, they always needed to eat and run. They never had time to sit down for meal. So what they did when they made the sandwiches they put everything all on the sandwich so you don’t have to be like taking a bite here go grab a french fry cause you don’t have time for that when you’re driving.
Pittsburgh native here-great overview, Mark! Some other recommendations for anyone visiting: Italian food - Girasole in Shadyside, Pino’s in Point Breeze, Penn Mac (grocery store with the most amazing selection of cheeses you’ll ever see) in the Strip Pizza - Fiori’s in Brookline, Mineo’s in Squirrel Hill, Colangelo’s in the Strip (best served for breakfast with a cannoli and a cappuccino from next door to wash it down) Coffee - La Prima in the Strip, Commonplace Coffee in Squirrel Hill, Red Hawk in Oakland, Colombino in the Strip, Zeke’s in East Liberty Breakfast - Kelly O’s (best French toast ever) Mexican food - Patron in East Liberty, Mad Mex in Oakland/East Liberty Thai food - Nicky’s Thai Kitchen in North Side, Took Took 98 in Squirrel Hill Tea - Dobra Tea in Squirrel Hill, Fuku Tea in Oakland If you’re craving something in particular, just ask someone! We have a lot of city pride and are more than happy to share our favorite things about it.
My Dad always said that the chip chopped ham was the reason my Grandfather had a quadruple bypass. Apparently he ate it in his lunch every day, but thanks to our wonderful hospitals he lived to almost a hundred.
I'm from Pittsburgh but now living in Denver. Every football season, I order 3 or 4 pizzas from Mineo's on Murray Ave half baked and frozen and FedEx overnight. Every Steelers game I have a slice or 2. This yinzer says Go Steelers 🖤💛🏈
Mineos is the best pizza in Pittsburgh imo .. I just live closer to the Mt Lebo one and it’s just not the same as sq hill that I grew up on every Sunday after temple
I agree with everything in this video mark, and as someone from Western Pa, I loved walking to our local eat n park with my mom to get a cookie and go see my dad at his work. When I was younger
Love the content. Next time your in Pittsburgh I would suggest. Pages for ice cream, DeLucas for breakfast, Fiori’s for pizza, Peppi’s for hoagie. Wash it all down with a Turners Tea.
I have seem 4 videos and none was like yours. You was very inform let me know a lot about Pittsburgh food you got straight to the point !!! Thank you very much!!!❤❤❤
I love going to Pittsburgh...primarily to go to PNC Park! So thank you for adding a few new places for us to hit...especially with the non-dairy hint; my wife will dig that!
Check out Apteka for pierogies and other great Eastern European inspired dishes. And there are so many local breweries here now that are so much better than iron city. You can also get lots of good food at some of the local farmers markets. Also check out Vegfest at the Allegheny commons park if you’re visiting in late august. That’s all.
I've been watching your videos for years, and I'm pretty excited to see you've now made your way to my city! And yeah, you can't beat fries on a chicken or steak salad here :).
@@WoltersWorldEats next time you're back, I definitely recommend going to Max's Allegheny Tavern for their German food (and Reubens too) and trying the beer from Penn Brewery!
I’ve been waiting 6 years for Mark to get to my city. Thanks Mark! Whoever put the words over the eatn park picture left off the H in Pittsburgh, but that’s understandable. Let’s go pens!
When I went to Pittsburgh, I went to this neat Brewery that used to be a Cathedral (and ate pierogis and a Lemoncake there.) I also ate Ohio Valley style Pizza while I was in Pittsburgh and....that was something. Not going to say it was great but it wasn't terrible. It's probably part of the experience.
Grew up in Western PA with great Italian and Eastern European food. Most of my favorites are homemade especially the baked goods like nut, poppyseed, apricot rolls. Cookies at all events as well as the pretzel salad and Pittsburgh potato casserole. Also you missed hot sausage sandwiches and wow....Mancini Italian bread and rolls. The milkshake place is new..not old pgh. There are more local fish fries during Lent and more restaurants now than when I grew up. Lots of ethnic influence in food here. Each immigration and migration leaving its mark.
Great video! We live about an hour and 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh but we make it down as often as we can. And you can’t go wrong in the Strip District with food or shopping. I always make sure and grab some Steelers and Pens gear but back to food the last time we were down we ate at Jimmy and Nino Sunseri Co. They have phenomenal subs! I had an eggplant and meatball sub and it was delicious and my wife loved her sandwich too.
A little late to this video, but if you want good Sushi in Pittsburgh then you have to go to Andy's Sushi. He is located in Wholey's fish market which is another Pittsburgh staple in the strip district. As soon as you walk into wholey's he is directly in front of the door. He has been making sushi for decades and uses the freshest ingredients you can possibly get in the burgh. Check it out!
My home town! I loved going down memory lane! And thank you to all the commenters with additional suggestions. There are so many great places to eat in Pittsburgh no one should leave hungry!
Next time you're in the general Pittsburgh area, check out Uncle Sam's Subs. They shave the meat on a deli slicer immediately before cooking. And if you dine in, you get complimentary fries.
This is great. I am from western PA and live in Tucson now. I try to explain fries on everything and Sheetz to everyone but they just can’t comprehend either. I usually default to saying “kind of like smaller Buccees” if they’ve been to Texas. Primanti Bros are good but perhaps a little overrated. I think it’s worth getting one if you are in the city though.
Could you maybe get a Sonoran dog and an Eegees and think of us. I had to cancel my Tucson trip this week. 😭 Eegees was my favorite treat as a kid. -jocelyn
Visiting Son-In-Law in a couple weeks for a Pirates game and looking up food places. Never knew Perogies were big there, Perogies Plus is on the list with Primanti Brothers, what about Scrapple or is that and East Coast thing? Thanks for your videos I look you up when ever we travel.
Good job my guy, I grew up there in Carnegie 5 miles west of dahntahn. Good eats there too BTW. Pizza wise - Fioris hands down. Any locals want that smoke please go ahead. LOL - S/O to Showcase BBQ near Wilkinsburgh also. Tell Drew the owner Nate sent ya. Peace my friends!!

Yeah, I think it's overrated too, but I still say it's worth stopping at for someone not from here if they've never been. Burgatory is a great choice for burgers and I'd also add Peppis is excellent if someone is looking for a more traditional sub/hoagie in Pittsburgh.
Sheetz doesn’t compare to all the great eateries Pitt has. Please avoid gas station food. I’m shocked it’s on this video. So many great places not mentioned.
