    Kagen, been watching you for awhile now and just wanted to tell you that my father and I have decided to sell our 19ft nautic star and buy 2 solos. Thanks for all the videos, you were one of the main reasons why we made the decision.

      GoodVibesEveryday being that I am in the Houston area there is a distributor named Brice Sanchez. He doesn’t have a shop but works directly with the creator of solo skiff. You can find him on FB.

    Some good hook ups, let that drag do what its mint to do, sometimes you don't get a good hook set and will hook the inner skin of there mouth, if you got the drag set tight, it will rip out. Loosen that drag up and play them out, you will get more fish in the boat. Congrats on the truck bro.

    Great video's! I like the thought you have put into rigging your skiff. I have learned a lot watching your videos. I am working to have a Solo for some fall fishing. I have mainly been a Bass fisherman most of my life. No way my bass boat is going in the salt and I really like how you can get in that skinny water on the skiff. Cannot wait to get a skiff and maybe come to one of your meet up's on the water.

    Sup Kagen, would you need a vessel license to use these small motorized kayaks? I'm assuming having one of these is similar in having a boat like license, boat & trailer insurance. Watching you and other kayak fisherman's catch fish and applying maintenance is far easier than owning 21ft boat. The 2 things I dread in having a 21ft boat gas and winterizing.

    • @WynneEden
      @WynneEden 4 года назад +1

      Probably depends on the state, but I don't know of any that don't require registration (and CG lettering) if yo use a motor. If you only paddle or pole it, you won't have to register it in some (many?) states. The motor (electric trolling or gas/propane) is what makes it a non-human powered vessel. That also changes the USCG lighting rules, by the way.

    Simple is better; makes sense to me. What was the wind velocity when you went out fishing?

    • @KagenFishing

      Wind was blowing 16-20 probably. It was terrible but skiff handled it well.

    • @CoastalGX
      @CoastalGX 4 года назад

      Kagen Fishing I just bought one but my buddies advise against anything over 10mph on the lower Laguna Madre. Those winds in your video appeared a lot stronger than 10mph.

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  4 года назад

      Coastal GX in winds that high I do stay in more protected waters. But I have taken my solo skiff out in winds that gust over 30mph before. It’s all about knowing your personal experience on small water craft and your comfort ability with being safe.

    Been watching your channel for several months and I appreciate your work. Looking at purchasing a Solo and wanted to ask about your add-ons. The Solo I am considering is bare bones. Skiff, motor, paddle and trailer at $3500. What would you estimate are the costs you incurred regarding the purchase of fuel can deck padfing, fish finder, micropole, Rod raks, h rails etc? Trying to get a rough estimate on additional costs to make the skiff "fish ready". Thanks.

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  4 года назад

      Mark Shipp to go out and catch fish you only really need a rod holder and an anchor if in deeper water. Of course it is nice to have some accessories. I have most of the gear I have rigged on the solo in affiliate links below. Of course powerpole is most expensive and you have to build mount for it. Then fish finder, academy runs deals on them occasionally.

  • @mehmetdtx
    @mehmetdtx 4 года назад

    this is not a rigging question, but I am just curious. If you were turning (propeller at an angle with the skiff) and hit a log.. what are the chances it will rip up the plastic hull and cause the boat to sink?

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  4 года назад

      Mehmet Dogan if the motor is in the normal running position just turned and hit a log there is a plate above the prop that would block the prop from hitting the skiff. It might throw you out if running at high speeds cause it would lift the back of the skiff up. This is all hypothetical tho so in this realm anything can happen haha.

    Did the aluminum rig help with the stability of the motor? I want to get a solo skiff but I'm worried about the integrity of the mount for the motor

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  3 года назад

      The motor and transom was perfectly fine without the transom saver. The main reason I got it was to mount my power pole on the back. But it does add more rigidity to the transom

    Did you just use stainless screws to mount your H-rails? And are they pretty sturdy? What did you use to seal the holes where your transducer and power supply wires run to your fish finder? How fast can you go and still get depth readings?

    • @KagenFishing
      @KagenFishing  4 года назад

      Yes I used all stainless but I used bolts with washers under it and is very sturdy. I used flex seal silicone stuff, more like their version of caulking not the black spray. If its calm I can go about 6-8mph and it will still be able to get depths.
