The Gujarati sailor whom Vasco dagama followed.. his name was kanha, who was an employee of Virji Vohra a mercent of Surat, ans was carrying 3 cargo ships mostly 6 times bigger then the that times biggest warships of Europe... the description of the ships is mentioned in journals of Vasco ......

Please search this in internet and make 2nd part and cover the maritime history of Kalinga/Odisha.

Exactly about Ramayan I also got thoughts that why dint Shri Ram sena used naval ships to attack Lanka. As what I can understand as the number of soldiers in His army was so huge for which thousands of ships would have to be made. Plus their ration, astras, weapons etc. For which Lots of time and material would be spent to make or arrange ships.
Therefore Shree Ram chose to build a bridge on ocean which could be easier.

Very nice series, commendable. Viewers could also refer to a book called " India and the Indian Ocean" written by Sardar Panicker wherein I recall I read that ancient India made very strong and large ships which carried 100 elephants per ship from Indian port Tamralipti in Orissa to Japan about 4000 years ago.
