    "Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

    Next time you need to deal with a widow maker like that one, use a sturdy X frame and set your strap or chain on top of it, leaning a few degrees towards the tree. That way, when the tractor pulls, you add lift to the root end to get it off the ground easier. No digging needed.

  • @scottperry8388

    The sad part of critters for sure, we aren't the only ones that might eat them. Just had some coyotes dig under the wall of a stall in my pole barn to get at some chicks I had there. They ate a couple of dozen before heading out. They didn't even leave a tip. The place is looking great. Thanks for sharing.

  • @stephenfielding2672
    @stephenfielding2672 3 года назад +1

    Shop project make a tree dolly two wheels at the base of an A frame with a hook and chain at the top, you straddle the trunk with the frame connect the tractor from the top of frame chain goes around tree, when tractor pulls it pivots the frame lifting the tree slightly and you drag it out :) you get a lift and wheels easy to move

    I had to put a chicken wire skirt around my coop to stop fox from digging in. I think it’s about 2 feet in length when it lays flat and normally predators won’t dig that far away when they try to get in so it helps.

    ... sorry you had to let Duck Norris go ... my friend uses a large, complete closed heavy ish wire cube (thus including the floor) for her chickens and ducks, coz she was plagued with predators ... she’s lost nothing in over ten years ... they free range most days when she is there ... initially, long laborious task and suppose expense of materials and time, but longevity has more than paid this back and fresh duck eggs ...hmmmmm yum yum ... perhaps a future project ... and worth considering for hen run ?
    ... love my Saturdays to tune into your vlogs ...”destined for Home Depot” (and many more classics throughout your vlogs) ... didn’t realise you Canadians had such a dry wit ... I thought that was just us Irish 😀 ... have a good week 🙏☘️

    Another great vid. Lots of laughs too. Always good to have cameos of Chris and don too! If you ever have time, you should consider building a structure on the sun side of the pond to put the pond in shade. It will help keep the algae down as well as keeping the water colder. One option is to put all your solar panels of that side to block as much as poss. Or just plant some trees, build a wall, or do another out building if the ground will support it.

    Duck Norris. Love it ! Trout pond : I know that’s a shallow pond. The aerator should only be aerating the top 12-16” of the water. Having it sit on the bottom will cause the water to turn over. Like convection in an oven. If u keep it at the top portion of the water it’ll aerate that portion and keep the cooler water at the bottom which is what trout want. Colder water holds oxygen significantly better and warm water does not. Hope this helps. And yes I have a trout pond. Just think about where u catch trout. Deeper pools in brooks and streams. And water in ponds that the pond is generally 25+’ deep and always in the deeper water. Hope this helps keep those rainbows going and reaching grill potential.

    Put small grid cattle panels or fencing under the chicken tractor sides, make sure they are all on all sides so they can’t dig. Move tractor on them. Then when you want to move it pull forward, put panels down and then pull tractor on the panels. You need hardware cloth on the top, raccoons, coyotes, dogs, possums etc can destroy chicken wire its worthless in the wild.

    "Duck Norris" HA! Appropriate.
    Chuck would be proud knowing it survived the attack mere days earlier.

    Regarding the duck relocation - that's what Greg Ovens did for Hop-along.

    I am rather sad to see the channel mascots go.. but at least Duck Norris found a new home with what seems to be a loving family, and people that will not only protect but also appreciate and love him.
    Now we need a new channel mascot... Only thing that seems fitting for the channel is to find yourself a beaver. (And not the 70s meaning of beaver either)

    If you had a permanent home for the ducks. You would place wire way down, bury it or cement in. So critters cannot dig under. You have to keep duckies safe.
