You know what's insane? Even to this day, Psycho Pirate still, to this day, remembers everything that's happened throughout the entirety of the DC Universe's history, at least that he personally viewed.
The Flash: The only big name hero death that ever lasted any significant amount of time. Also the one that bringing back has caused more problems then good.
man. imagine what would happen If nostalgia critic discovers his true power. he is already powerful enough to cause explosions with a hand gun he's killed Angel's he's used the RUclips comment section to fight zuko and defeated shamilan and even caused two nuclear explosions through sheer rage. imagine him with psycho pirates power's.
Interesting fact about Barry Allen's death: It was implied later that his energy went back in time, and took the form of a lightning bolt, which became the very lightning bolt which hit Barry Allen's lab, and made him the Flash.
Archeopteryxman421 when i discovered that i only could think "ffs barry, are you ever going to not create time-space mayhem with your actions? wally doesn't create another earth or paradox or multiversal chaos when travels in time, are you sure that you're not the villian?"
Fuzzy Barbarian you know for all of Linkara's complaints about how the New52 screwed up the Teen Titans, at least the Titans are still relevant to casual comic fans (thanks to Wolvman's run and the 2000s cartoon show). When was the last time the Legion sparked interest outside of hardcore Legion fans? Hard to imagine before the Crisis, it was once one of DC's bestselling titles. Us Legion fans had it worse I tell ya.
Well, *currently* the Legion is sparking interest, but I think a lot of that is more new readers interested at the *idea* of the Legion. Also, helps that it's a mystery to unravel.
Hell, there's kinda actually four Legions... and depending on how the retcon in the last issue of their most recent ongoing works out, possibly five... and the Rebirth Legion so far seems to be a new Legion too... ugh. Though to be fair, the second reboot (the Threeboot) wasn't at all necessary, since continuity wasn't an issue with the Reboot Legion. Then the third reboot (the Retroboot) seemed to exist purely for nostalgia's sake (that and most people hated the Threeboot), but continuity, again, wasn't an issue. The Rebirth Region (which I like to call the ReLegion) at least makes sense from a continuity standpoint after the Retroboot screwed itself. While I like the Reboot Legion best and it would've never existed without the original Legion getting screwed, it's just insanely uninviting to new readers. And all because of the Superboy thing, a retcon I don't even dislike.
Superman: You see, buddy, you're so proud how you're a monitor, a great power that can't be challenged. But you need to understand that though you may be a monitor, I AM A MAN!!!!!
The Regular Show finale seemed to take a bit of inspiration from this story. Pops was destined to fight an Anti-Pops, as they had for eons, and like the Monitor and Anti-Monitor they were both equally matched. While the final battle didn't reshape their universe, it was a fittingly epic way to end the series.
Psycho Pirate: "I remember all the other earths, and I'm never going to forget. I hope they don't all try to explode out of my head and break the comic panels. Also I can see you staring at me, cut it out it's kind of creepy!"
I shoiuld probably talk about THIS comic, though. Honestly, I never knew the story of the Crisis itself. I'd heard of the Anti-Monitor, Barry Allen and Supergirl's deaths, and the skrunching up of all the universes into one, but this is the first time I've learned the whole story. And...It's kind of amazing. I can see why it ended up influencing decades' worth of comics following it. I cna also see why DC would have floundered a little, because after you make the multiverse explode...where do you go from there?
+Curt Clark: How do you top Crisis On Infinite Earths? YOU DON'T. DC had NO BUSINESS trying to revisit it with Zero Hour, Infinite Crisis, Flashpoint, Rebirth, and any other DC reboots I missed?
You know, it's... Actually kind of sad, to see what they did with Superboy Prime I mean, come the end of this series, the kid went to hell and back with the other heroes, to the dawn of time and back, fighting the Anti-Monitor in his home turf alongside the original Superman, and at the end of it all, even if he knows he'll die... He's okay with it. Because he did what Superman is meant for: to protect and save everyone. And then they went and just... Shat all over it. Made him a massive "Fuck You" incarnate to DC fans who made complaints about the company, and in the end... Made him more known as a despicable villain, than the true hero he could have been. God dammit, I hate it so much.
To be fair, look at this from his perspective. He just gets powers, then gets dragged into a multiversal crisis. His native Earth is destroyed. Everyone he ever loved, his friends, family...gone. And then there’s one Earth left. He gets stuck in a “paradise” dimension with an elderly alternate version of himself and his wife and a redheaded guy. He never really got to be a hero. I say that he would be understandably bitter.
I always thought that was the Anti-Monitor's skin, not teeth. That stoic, neutral expression is a lot scarier to me than the idea that he's constantly giving a Liefeld grimace.
Final Crisis said the Multiverse was still out there.. then *something* , *something* Superman Robot, Universal Vampire *Something* ... Grant Bloody Morrison...
@@pious83 He writes a lot of trippy stuff. I want to read his run on JLA though. World War 3 sounds like another one of DC's crowning moments of awesome!
I got the Graphic Audio presentation of this event and I loved how it captured all the crazy insanity of this event in a short tight knit package. Also some really great voice acting. I kinda miss how you didn't cover my favorite line from Anti-Monitor. "Why are you all fighting me? YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD!" That's more or less the perfect line of a villain getting pissed at heroic determination in the face of impossible odds. Evil cannot comprehend good indeed. Still, great work here, can't wait for next week.
Am I the only one who finds it weird that Linkara will spend so much time martyring Supergirl sacrafic, yet mostly skip Barry. Look I get Linkara prefer Wally which is fine, everyone can have their option, but that doesn’t mean Barry shouldn’t get his dues
To answer the end-of-credits question... maybe the Monitor knew the future while the Anti-Monitor didn't because the Monitor actually looked for it? I mean, the Monitor actually studied universes to learn from them, right? While the Anti-Monitor just wanted to conquer and destroy and so forth? So if the Anti-Monitor had done the research, he could have gotten future knowledge too, but he was too busy smashing things to realize it.
You can see that with the Psycho Pirate. The Anti-Monitor was so consumed with his plans of conquest... that he didn't realize Psycho Pirate had an actual limit to what he could do
The fallout of this event comic can still be felt today: the consequence of having too many characters to work with can be dire. You end up losing track of every participant of that story, so the solution is to read the previous issue's summary. In fact, many of today's shows and comics still refrence this major event, with their own spin on it.
I agree, the original Anti-Monitor design is great! The more well-known design is kinda... it's okay, but it doesn't have that same otherworldly, demonic sci-fi look.
I can imagine that the second look is preferred by artists. It’s sleeker and easier to draw. The first is one of those designs that basically only Perez could pull off.
Regarding Supergirl, there was another reason... the Supergirl movie flopped badly in theaters which gave DC the go-ahead to kill her. At least she came back and is somewhat popular again.
conplete with getting her own TV show 30 years after she got killed off and 10 after her reintroduction (and Harbinger's unnecessary death) under the likes of the current shell of his former glory in Jeph Loeb
I personally think that it was originally intended to be Lady Quark, but editorial told Wolfman and Perez to change it to Supergirl. Lady Quark dying fighting the Anti-Monitor makes sense, because she had nothing left to lose at that point.
Not necessarily, although I can imagine that didn’t help things. In actuality, Dick Giordano, who was executive editor of DC at the time, felt Kara was redundant, just Superman with boobs.
Not necessarily, although it didn’t help. Dick Giordano, who was DC’s Executive Editor at the time, was never a fan of Supergirl. He felt she was redundant, so he saw Crisis and the plans afterward as an opportunity to get rid of her.

No Lewis, we're not all dead because in 2005 the multiverse, including Earth-Prime came back into existence. We don't remember being destroyed, same as the post Infinite Crisis Earth-2 didn't remember being destroyed.
Except that's just because people remember it being spelled in a less stupid manner because our brains reject the idea they did something that dumb, because seriously, stein is a last name, stain is a thing on the carpet.
Implying that their real last name is incredibly stupid? Also, what incontrovertible proof do you have that people remembered it being spelled differently simply because "our brains reject the idea they did something that dumb?"
Aside from the standard "because of all of the physical evidence that shows it was spelled that way", which is not 'incontrovertible' if you choose to believe in multiverses being a legitimate thing along the lines of the whole 'you can't prove God does or does not exist' game, occam's razor. Its a simple, logical explanation; Human names commonly end in -stein, but for some baffling reason, the creators spelled it -stain instead. For most people, they were books they haven't read since childhood, which likely means most of their experience with them was having the book read TO them, and there's very little phonetic difference between the two spellings.
True, while he's back and celebrated so much now, godspeed Barry Allen... Godspeed. *salute* I was introduced to The Flash via the Justice League series... I didn't think much of Wally West, or the Flash in general, because I was, as typical of those of my age back then, a die-hard fan of Batman. Then I saw the episode taking place in Central City, when he was actually talking down The Trickster instead of just having another brawl with the villain. Then when Wally West, the Flash, nearly killed himself to defeat the union of Luthor and Brainiac. It's easy to say that almost overnight, The Flash became my favorite DC superhero, more so when I began to properly learn the history of Barry Allen, Eobard Thawne, Wally West, and so on. The Scarlet Speedster, the hero of Central City... and with Barry's (temporary) death in this very event, a hero to the universe. So, I guess... Thank you for shedding more history for us, Lewis. Thank you, because I have no local access to comics, and you showed us just how Wally West came to take up the mantle.
"And thus the Psycho-Pirate became the Nostalgia Critic"- man, in 2020 that is true in more ways than one, especially taking Infinite Crisis' Psycho-Pirate into consideration lol
In Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3, Krang fought and KILLED THE ANTI-MONITOR HIMSELF, and he wore the latter as an exoskeleton! I’ll repeat it, Krang, a talking alien brain FOUGHT AND KILLED A COSMIC BEING WHO WIPED OUT THE OG VERSION OF THE DC MULTIVERSE (which is restored thanks to the Convergence event) AND USED HIS BODY AS AN EXOSKELETON!!!!
There was a small group that remembered the crisis besides Psycho Pirate. One I know was Shazam (the wizard, not Capt. Marvel now called Shazam). I think it was hinted that the Specter and the Phantom Stranger also remembered.
"And this is one of the reasons that hand sanitizer is so important" I can think of another. Man going back to your old videos just has so much 2020 relevant content.
I realised Infinite Crisis would've been interesting if PSYCHO PIRATE was one of, if not THE, big bad of Infinite Crisis. He remembers the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, he's driven mad by what he remembers AND his addiction to feeding on emotions, and he even briefly worked directly UNDER the Anti-Monitor himself, so I could see a way to finagle him being the big bad. Better than having him serve a minor role only to be killed off gruesomely.
It's actually a little sad that the Titans and Legion couldn't have a bigger part in this due to the way they were being published at the time. For those who don't know, DC launched what they called a Prestige line, that would be sole only at comic book shops. They were printed on better paper and used more advance coloring methods. They relaunched The New Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes in this format with new #1's. The existing titles, sold at newstands, supermarkets, etc. were not cancelled. They were retitled Tales of the Teen Titans and Tales of the Legion of Superheroes. They continued to print new material for 12 issues and then started reprinting the Prestige issues. This means that the comic that was most widely available and visible on racks beside Crisis on Infinite Earths was a year old story. There was no real way to cover Crisis in those books very well because one set of fans or the other would be left out. That's why in Crisis, Dick Grayson and Starfire leave Earth seemingly randomly and are not present for the final fight. Its mostly a shame for the Legion since they never really recovered from what Crisis did to its history since it was tied directly to Superboy. They've tried reinserting young Superman into the story, but their popularity never recovered and they keep getting rebooted.
Oh my gosh, I just realized something! The villains going back in time to stop the creation of the multiverse, a mission from which there will be no return? THEY'RE THE SUICIDE SQUAD!
19:54 Golden Age Superman: Anti-Monitor, the thing is, you might be an eldritch abomination hellbent on annihilating our universe, because matter and anti-matter can’t exist in the same space without canceling each other out, and that’s why you are trying to destroy all positive matter... But dammit... I. AM. A. GOD. DAMN. MAN!!!!!!!!!!(infinite-mass punch, causes 9 x 10^9999999999999999 damage)
Are we gonna talk about the time Franklin Richards created a mini universe inside his rubber ball that held a bunch of heroes that were presumed dead next?
Crisis on Infinite Earths was my very first encounter with comic books. My local library had a hardcover omnibus copy of it, and I remember being amazed at it.
I had the same experience with Crisis as you Lewis. I had already been reading mainly DC but the thing that made me love that universe as a whole was Crisis. It showed me just how much legacy there was to that universe. It made me want to know who Blue Beetle was or who Firebrand was. This is why I became the JSA fanboy I am today.
I didn't get super into DC until after I discovered Batman the Animated Series and became curious about some of the characters on the show. "Crisis" was one of the first DC books I read during this formative period, and I had enormous fun with it. The art was fantastic, the story an epic yet ultimately simple "good vs. evil" battle to end all battles, and the idea of all these characters gathering together for a great big hootenanny of a giant SF war was a real treat to a kid who had only ever dipped his toes into superhero tales via "Essential Fantastic Four." (Shouldn't Galactus' first appearance be considered an "event?") Even better, I now had a whole heap of classic characters and stories to catch up with, which I have been doing with the "Showcase Presents" line, a never-ending supply of adventure and heroism that makes the original "Crisis" even more colossal in my mind. And yes, that Alex Ross cover sold me instantly on the whole concept from minute one!
The Linkara of Earth X comes from a world where due to major technological advancements, the internet was made in the 1930s and due to an increase in writing standards and shared ideas from that as a result, comics are considered as they are today for all ages and the Justice Society and Invaders are the ones who get all the events, development, cartoons movies and so forth. Sadly, the enemy is communist russia rather than fascist germany.
While Crisis on Infinite Earths has problems in terms of structure and a dated writing style, I think what it does best is celebrate what came before while paving the way for the future. Through it all, everyone in the DCU was an active agent, fighting against this grand threat to all of reality. It's why, despite still having never finished it, I can appreciate what it did. Compare that to Flashpoint... yeah, I'm still bitter!
The big difference between them was that Crisis was always meant to be a big event, whereas Flashpoint was a Flash story that was forced into being an event.
This was the first comic I read in a serious attempt to get into the medium and it pretty much came about by accident. I was big into DnD and MtG back in the mid 90s, my parents would always grab me the newest issue of InQuest (the CCG monthly book) and one time they accidentally picked up a copy of Wizard. Being like 13 and willing to read damn near anything put in front of me I consumed it cover to cover and was specifically interested in the announcement of this version of the trade and how important it was to comic history. A few months later grabbed a copy at the local bookstore and fell hard into the hobby. I might have slowed down over the years but I still revisit and absolutely adore the medium as a whole.
"Nothing you dream of..." ... O.O HOLY CRAP. I mean, it's terribly written and every sentence ends in an exclamation point...literally every one...but HOLY CRAP. I'M HAPPY :D
Currently in The CW's Arrowverse, there are 5 established universes with recognizable characters. What say you that within the next seven years, the Arrowverse gains more universes and they give they're own take on Crisis on Infinite Earths? I'll even throw out the hope of bringing in Smallville and…omg The CW shows are the only live action DC shows right now that actually embrace superheroes, aren't they?
Djinsin well there is daredevil, Jessica jones, Luke cage, ugg iron frist, defenders, punisher and I think agents of shield is still going. And it's not like the Cw shows are a gold standard by any degree. Gothem is terrible really I watch a few episodes and heat of rage that came off me was nearly enough to burn my house to ashes. flash gets more and more annoying the longer it goes. After sessions 3&4 Arrow is turning itself around. I still in joy super girl I just wish it was less political. And legends of tomorrow is like arrow in that it's starting to get better but it's still has issues with sussing out a working team dimeatic as it can't seem to make the interactions between the characters seem organic. At lest it doesn't feel the need to remind it's watchers that Sara lance is lesbian every episode only every few episodes with is progress. It at lest for the moment seems to understand better than the frist season if you want to make a character likeable or memorable they have to be more than just their race or sexuality
Actually My Hero Academia handles heroes better then the CW shows right now IMO. One of the purposes of the show is asking what makes a hero? And more importantly, it’s already a world that’s so full of heroes that you really do need to find a way to stand above the rest in a unique way.
Sooo... fast forward a year and a half from this review and The Flash dropped a pretty big hint that yes, the much derided CW shows apparently ARE planning to do Crisis somewhere down the line and not treat the "Red Skies Crisis" as a mere easteregg anymore. (I just hope we don't actually have to wait until 2024 for it to happen) And this is while there's rumors of a complete reboot of the big-budget DCEU on the horizon. Let me reiterate: The low budget TV-shows at this point have an actual chance to do their own Infinity-War-scale crossover event, while the movies barely got the Justice League together before everything fell apart (and the latter are rumored to start the reboot with a *villain movie*, just to show off how they didn't understand what went wrong the first time). Can everyone finally understand why people like me, despite all its obvious flaws, still prefer the Arrowverse to the DCEU?
I the feeling that Lady Quark was the one intended to sacrifice herself fighting the Anti-Monitor instead of Supergirl. Think about it, she lost her family and world, and had nothing left. t would make sense for her to make that sacrifice, as there was no place for her on the remaining Earths. I would not be surprised if editorial told Marv to change it to Supergirl dying.
I'm more surprised that Dr Light (Kimiyo Hoshi) didn't have a bigger role. You'd think the Anti-Monitor giving her superpowers would've been a big deal.
@@johnnygyro2295 Ehh Its funny she did set up the precedent of Big event creating all sorts of New characters....that are either never seen again or just become more people you only pull out when you need to kill someone off
The Babylonians had The Epic of Gilgamesh The Greeks had The Iliad and The Oddessey The Romans had the Aenead The Renaissance had Shakespeare And we have Crisis on Infinite Earths!
Stories like this, about several dozen worlds and timelines. About thousands of heroes coming together, that's something I love. It may sound rather silly, but this kinda idea is one I always dream of making come true. To create dozens of stories, characters, and worlds. And attempt to then make a big story that can reach the same level of amazement as Crisis on Infinite Earths. That is a goal and reality I would want to make come true, no matter how impossible it sounds to some. I'm 19 years old and have a lot of ideas in this head. I want to tell all of them, then bring them together to star in a ginormous event on the same level as this story. Like I said, rather silly. But a guy can dream. ^ ^''
As I remember, the Superboy that inspired the Legion of Superheroes was the one from a pocket universe created by a Legion villain (who turned out to be a Legion member from the future). Also, why does Killer Frost have the hots for Firestorm? Does she want to suck his life? Because last time I saw them before Crisis, she hated him.
"But I can't take you with me." Pariah hasn't gone THROUGH the anti-matter wall. He's taken people from one normal Earth to another, but not to Anti-Earth.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was my first serious attempt to get into comics. It made me feel emotional for characters I had surface level knowledge of, and for characters I'd never seen before. It is the gold standard of event comics in my eyes.
The thing with the Legion of Super-Heroes is that at this point they operate independently of the DC universe, because when they tried reacting to universe shaping events it didn't work out for anyone. Basically after this the Legion kept on keeping on, but Superboy and Supergirl were replaced retroactively with suspiciously similar substitutes, they they were rebooted fully after zero hour. Then they were rebooted a second time for reasons I do not know before the Legion of Three Worlds event brought back the original legion which is who we have now (even after the new 52 reboot) so based on that they dawnstar in this and in the culling should be the same person...The legion is a mess.
I wish they had left at least one of the ‘redundant’ Earth 2 characters alive. I would have loved to have seen what a Robin that lived through World War 2 and no one remembers or the daughter of a dead and gone Bruce Wayne would have done in the reformed world.
I don´t care about this series or even Comic books, but I wanted to say that even from an outsiders pov, who only saw 3 of your videos out of curiosity, this is a well put together show, keep up your good work.
Power Girl was a pretty big left over and her ever changing origin... According to Marv Wolfman somewhere in Crisis there apparently showed a way to bring back Barry Allen... I still miss the pre-Crisis Huntress and Robin of Earth 2...
I actually remember the "viewing the beginning of the universe is bad" thing being used as recently as 2010, in first issue of the Legion of Super-Heroes Retroboot series. Oh, and you just KNOW they're gonna call back to that at some point with Doctor Manhattan's hand Actually, maybe THAT'S what killed Owlman and Eobard Thawne! I mean, the Watchmen stuff being a red herring isn't an uncommon theory, and I can see their seeing the beginning of the universe being what kills them instead.
I take it to mean that Pariah couldn't take so many people with him, just who he can hold. I consider Supergirl's death permanent because later iterations really weren't the same character. The newer Kara's tended to be younger, less mature, and not as tied to Earth.
Notable Quotes 2: Anti-Monitor: "Greetings Flash. I hope the Anticipation was worth it! Call me...THE MONITOR!... And very soon, I shall be Ruler of All who Live!" Blue Beetle: "They scared me out of my Wits with this Fright Story that'd give Goosebumps to Steven King!" Wonder Woman: "Hear me Mary Marvel! My Magic Lasso can Calm you! Soothe You!" Pariah: "The Answer, Captain Atom, lies with Young Alexander, as well as with Me. I can travel to wherever Danger or Evil lurk, but I cannot take you with me." Anti-Monitor: "I will absorb the Anti-Matter Energy of more than a Million Worlds! They will instantly Perish! All the lives contained thereon shall Die!" Lana Lang of WGBS News: "The representatives of many Different Worlds have come here to report on what the Press has been calling the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS" Superboy: "Please, I'm Superboy from Earth Prime! You've got to bring me too!" Superboy again: "Even I don't know how I disappeared, but I'm here. And I'm Earth Prime's Last Survivor!" Anti-Monitor: "I offer you my Congradulations! I acknowledge your persistence! Your will to live is Astonishing!" Darkseid: "Welcome my friends, to Apokalips! I am it's master, Darkseid the Destroyer!" Alexander: "I know how the Universe would be Reborn. I knew the consequences. And I could not let you, of all heroes, suffer that loss!" Pyscho Pirate: "You See, I like to remember the Past because those were Better Times than Now. I mean, I'd rather live in the past than today, wouldn't you? I mean, nothing's ever certain anymore! Nothing's predictable like it used to be! These days...Y-you just never know Who's going to Die!...And Who's going to Live!"
According to Wikipedia, the original ending to Crisis would have had the Earth One Supes die and the Earth two Supes become the basis for the post crisis version, having faking his own ageing process in order to not worry his Lois. I would have loved to have seen that shit happen so much. It would have been so interesting to have Superman on New Earth that was a veteran like that a member of the JSA as well as the JLA. It would have introduced so many story opportunities like, what did he do when the JSA was forced to disband? Did he stick around and keep being a hero, did he go into retirement until after his Lois's death, doing hero work in the shadows? Would he have a Secret Citadel or a Fortress of Solitude? Would he have had kids or grand kids or would that have been left up to Power Girl? What would his stories be like and would the Earth One supes have ever come back like he did in reality?
Awesome video. Alright, few things: 1. Supergirl and Flash's deaths were definitely tragic and makes me worried for their CW counterparts... 2. I actually don't mind Anti-Monitor's New 52 self. While it wasn't as good his original incarnation, it *did* expand on New God lore. 3. I'm kind of disappointed Kimiyo Hoshi (The Good Dr Light) hasn't had a bigger role in DC stories. She was given her powers by the Monitor for some reason. You'd think she'd be doing more stuff. 4. I hope you cover DC's Millennium for a future Event Comics Month, since it also doubles as the origin story for the New Guardians.
My only big complaint about this story is all the character death in the second half. Like the deaths of the Earth 3 characters, the Flash, and Supergirl are all great. But so many characters die unceremoniously in that final battle. I have a hard time seeing past it. Also people used to claim that Lord of the Rings or Watchmen was un-filmable? Holy crap they never read this! This book is too epic to even be turned into a DC DTV Animated movie! Thanks for the review as always. It was worth the wait :D
Which is why they instead made a movie based on an unused two-parter for the Justice League animated series that was inspired by it (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths).
Oh Come one decade was dealing with swartz fusing all of reality that cancelled the anti matter but was destroying realty Because The Anti monitor is still pissed he decides to destroy it while it's merging And Now I've Forget Why I've Written This
I didn't get into the original Crisis until about 1990 when some one gave me the last issue. Dude kept referring to Superman and his sons - but after reading a few pages I quickly deduce what was really going on. The image of Superman DA-STROYING the guy that killed universes is what got me back into DC when I was almost going too Marvel. Oh, and Link, you forgot to mention the MESS they made of Powergirl's origin after the first Crisis until INFINITE CRISIS, the real sequel almost 20 yrs later, to fix it back to WHAT WE HAD ALWAYS KNOW WHAT IT WAS.
This was ongoing when I was just being aware of comics so of course I was confused. I still recall seeing Issue 8 with the flash in a store somewhere. The tie ins were crazy I've tried to read them all but it's hard. The big mistake D.C. made was rebooting all the books after crisis slowly. Superman was not rebooted by johb Byrne till months later making the stories that appeared after crisis pointles. No one knew what was and wasn't canon. I think this what they tried not to repeat with the new 52 but even that was botched.
You know what's insane? Even to this day, Psycho Pirate still, to this day, remembers everything that's happened throughout the entirety of the DC Universe's history, at least that he personally viewed.
That probably can't be good for his sanity.

Interesting fact about Barry Allen's death: It was implied later that his energy went back in time, and took the form of a lightning bolt, which became the very lightning bolt which hit Barry Allen's lab, and made him the Flash.
So all his sacrifice amounted to was a causality loop?!
Archeopteryxman421 yup it all goes full circle

Anyone remember Marvel's little homage to Barry shortly after crisis?
"problems for the continuity of Legion of Super-Heroes"
*Understatement of the century*
Fuzzy Barbarian Shouldn't that be 31st century?
Fuzzy Barbarian you know for all of Linkara's complaints about how the New52 screwed up the Teen Titans, at least the Titans are still relevant to casual comic fans (thanks to Wolvman's run and the 2000s cartoon show). When was the last time the Legion sparked interest outside of hardcore Legion fans? Hard to imagine before the Crisis, it was once one of DC's bestselling titles. Us Legion fans had it worse I tell ya.
Fuzzy Barbarian Especially since they made 3 different Legions from 3 different realities.

While the final battle didn't reshape their universe, it was a fittingly epic way to end the series.

the cover was by George Perez but is was painted by Alex Ross and indeed it's a gorgeous cover!

You can tell Ross didn’t draw it because it has Firestorm in it. Ross doesn’t like Firestorm for some reason, so he never painted him.

Curt Clark Have it fight and temporarily merge with it's rival comic book company
Most definently. Honestly this is one of the few comics I think earned the right to be called an Event Comic.
agreed and actually had consequences that effected the universe
+Curt Clark: How do you top Crisis On Infinite Earths? YOU DON'T. DC had NO BUSINESS trying to revisit it with Zero Hour, Infinite Crisis, Flashpoint, Rebirth, and any other DC reboots I missed?
Except Rebirth has been amazing right now and actually saved DC comics from themselves
So if Earth Prime is destroyed, does that mean that we're all ghosts watching another ghost explain the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths? :P
Wait, are we not?
No because earth prime was recreated in infinite crisis
No, no...Convergence kind of undid CoIE...we're good.
That would explain why I feel dead inside.
Earth Prime isn't our earth. Just a representation of ours. Have you ever heard of Metropolis or Superman in our world?
You know, it's... Actually kind of sad, to see what they did with Superboy Prime
I mean, come the end of this series, the kid went to hell and back with the other heroes, to the dawn of time and back, fighting the Anti-Monitor in his home turf alongside the original Superman, and at the end of it all, even if he knows he'll die...
At least he came back to goodness in his fight with "The Bat/Superman who laughs"
I think that too, really not fan of thinking that are his teeth ...
I honestly think he looks much more intimidating if those were his teeth.
Behold! The end result of Youngblood's disease!
I like the teeth idea
They’re clearly lips, not teeth.
No, no, no..we're not dead. Convergence basically undo Crisis on Infinite Earths...we're good.
SMAXZO which creates a lot of continuity issues for the Pre-Flashpoint multiverse

I got the Graphic Audio presentation of this event and I loved how it captured all the crazy insanity of this event in a short tight knit package. Also some really great voice acting. I kinda miss how you didn't cover my favorite line from Anti-Monitor.
"Why are you all fighting me? YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD!"
That's more or less the perfect line of a villain getting pissed at heroic determination in the face of impossible odds. Evil cannot comprehend good indeed.
Still, great work here, can't wait for next week.
Probably because he already used the joke for that line in the Fist of the North Star review.
To the point 2022’s event was Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths

Huh, I understood that reference.
I really hate that episode...
I agree, the original Anti-Monitor design is great! The more well-known design is kinda... it's okay, but it doesn't have that same otherworldly, demonic sci-fi look.
Minus what looks like IVs sticking out of a non-existent nose, I agree.
I can imagine that the second look is preferred by artists. It’s sleeker and easier to draw. The first is one of those designs that basically only Perez could pull off.
Agreed.
Loy Turns that makes more sense
Is it a bad thing that I just recited the "We should DO something! Should we do something?" Line with Linkara?

"UGH, fake news. This is clearly a crisis on only 5 earths"
No idea how played out that joke would be 4 years later lol
No Lewis, we're not all dead because in 2005 the multiverse, including Earth-Prime came back into existence. We don't remember being destroyed, same as the post Infinite Crisis Earth-2 didn't remember being destroyed.
Which is exactly why people today remember "The Berenstein Bears" and not "The Berenstain Bears". ;)
Why does my brain hurt after reading this? My brain hurts now.
George Perez is a real artist genius. An understatement, but he is great with individuals as good as he is with groups
True, while he's back and celebrated so much now, godspeed Barry Allen... Godspeed.
*salute*
I was introduced to The Flash via the Justice League series...
I like how Superboy Prime has the whiny voice even when he's not being whiny here.
Truth is it isn't whining, just awkward puberty
I eagerly await Linkara covering Dark Nights: Death Metal
@@androzani84productions85 He did now. Not only am I happy to hear that voice again, but Superboy Prime got a happy ending and was redeemed.
@@michaeliv284 That actually makes a lot of sense.
"This comic is an epic equal to no other". Damn right, man!
There was a small group that remembered the crisis besides Psycho Pirate. One I know was Shazam (the wizard, not Capt. Marvel now called Shazam). I think it was hinted that the Specter and the Phantom Stranger also remembered.
That would be the Quintessence probably also Zeus and Ganthet was they were part of the group
Brainiac remembers, too, apparently.
Crisis was incredible. It and next week's, are the Gold Standard for Event Comics.
"And this is one of the reasons that hand sanitizer is so important"
I can think of another.
Carl Rood Well, the New 52 version was certainly dead after The Culling, but D.C. is currently setting up for them to appear in Rebirth
Past, Present and Future unexpectedly starting to collide?! Still makes better sense than agreeing to make Superman 4.
Its creepy to think that nowadays that hand is revealed to be Doctor Manhattan's hand.
KajiRider1997 When in this story, if the Anti-Moniter had got his way, it would have been HIS hand. Extended into a giant 🖕.
Funny enough, I heard there was one comic that hinted it was Supergirl's hand at the start of creation.

Are we gonna talk about the time Franklin Richards created a mini universe inside his rubber ball that held a bunch of heroes that were presumed dead next?
The Onslaught Saga! I'd like to see that, too.
I've never read The Onslaught Saga and Heroes Reborn. But they sound like quite the trip...
Dude Franklin Richards is, like, five years old.
And it led to the greatest comic book run of all time, in my opinion: Kurt Busiek and George Perez’s Avengers.
I really love that Titans Tower just has those big glamour pinups of all the members on the wall XD
I am so excited for 2019. Finally we will be getting a live action adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths!
You know I am glad that you reviewed Dino Charge before this, otherwise you would have missed such a wonderful opertunity.
Sometimes the universe allows certain awrsome things to just happen.
This makes me want a Crisis event for AT4W
John Porteous happened already in his ultimate warrior reviews/ the end of the lost beast aka missing number saga
There was no crossover with a parallel universe however. I want Linkara to visit Mechakara's universe
Don't even get me started on Earth 29's Linkara. That one's just a comic book who reviews online critics. Or the Earth 38 Linkara who's just a lamp.
stephenbronx950 And the constant lasers didn't help either. (The joke is referencing the first post Linkara made on tumblr)
17:25 The earth is missing? What if... a piece of the world is missing?
17:38 Missed "SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!" opportunity there.
...Damn, that WOULD have been good.
"The dude takes several fakeout deaths to the point where he's just a screaming, angry cloud--"
All hail?
You owe me a red bull for that nostalgia critic joke bro, my whole desk is soaked.
I might have slowed down over the years but I still revisit and absolutely adore the medium as a whole.
that Anti Monitor face is creepy and awesome, i would be proud to see that in my nightmares
psycho pirate had a great story arc in grant morrison's animal man
"Nothing you dream of..."

O.O
HOLY CRAP.
(I just hope we don't actually have to wait until 2024 for it to happen)
And this is while there's rumors of a complete reboot of the big-budget DCEU on the horizon.
@@shmee123ful Well they are doing it
*Your wish has been granted!*
John Morgan It was teased in the Justice League’s book, but she pulled a Hulk and quit after a couple of issues.

Alternate Luthor's son's name is Alexander. David Xanatos from "Gargoyles" is sometimes compared to Luthor, and his son's name was also Alexander.
Go for it. 18 year old with big stories in my head, too. I intend to tell them.

@@cameronedwards4893 Who knows?
I can't unsee the Anti-Monitor having skin instead of teeth.
Annoying, isn't it?
Oh, definitely.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall Now I can't unsee teeth.
I think those are lips. No way can those be teeth.
It's explained in-story - the Psycho-Pirate alters her emotions to love so she can work with the group until he's taken by the Anti-Monitor.
Oh, and you just KNOW they're gonna call back to that at some point with Doctor Manhattan's hand
Actually, maybe THAT'S what killed Owlman and Eobard Thawne!

Alright, few things:

Greatest exploits you've described Linkara.
I resent what the New 52 did to the Anti-Monitor. His name is not Mobius dammit!!
I watched pt 2 of the animated movie, and this comment is kinda funny
Makes me wonder how the Arrowverse version of the Crisis on Infinite Earths will be handled.
"Infinite Crisis"
RIP, MOBA version.
A true classic in crossover comics and comics in general; I actually have all twelve issues of the original max-series.
