VICTORIA KELLY: Lyre
Composer Victoria Kelly calls upon her Faroe Islands whakapapa (her grandmother was born there) in her work Lyre, seen performed by @NZTrio in this SOUNZ Film from the Concert Chamber of the Auckland Town Hall. She writes,
“The Faroes are astonishing in their beauty and strangeness. Their isolation is like a tone in the air. Fog appears and disappears around them, as if inhaled and exhaled by the surrounding sea…In this piece I explore the lure of the islands.”
