This question is asked time and again, so here is the answer coming from a life long swimmer (68 y/o). Swimming is boring and slow to watch to the untrained eye. As a sport it is too hard compared to other sports. A swimmer has no one to talk to once he or she begins to swim, there is no chitchat even in training, the swimmer lives in his/her own world of splendid isolation. Unless you are a swimmer you have absolutely no idea how fast these guys are swimming, the average swimmer who can swim a couple of lengths doesn't have a clue. Swim fans are normally family of swimmers or swimmers themselves. Swimming is only watched at the Olympics on TV.
What a stupid answer. Olympic trials will be in Lucas Stadium in Indianapolis for insane prices. Honestly, most American swammers understand SCY more than LCM. NCAA meet is far more exciting than Olympic trials. The reason the stands aren't filled is bc the NCAA doesn't understand they have a great product to sell. They are only understanding that Women's basketball is marketable now. NCAA should fill the stands with students or swammers. They could easily.
Each to their own opinion, but I'm afraid no matter what is done in an effort trying to "sell" swimming to a larger audience the results are always going to be the same in terms of bums on seats and generally demonstrate a lack of interest on a large scale. No amount of flashing lights or MC's doing introductions will really help. Professional leagues crash and burn, ever wonder why? It's because they can't sell it as a sport. Swimming is a niche sport and will remain so, that's a real shame but it's a fact. In fact you have answered your own question by mentioning Women's basketball it's to easier to participate in faster and more exciting to watch...think about it, accept it and live with it, you'll sleep better. I wish things were different but they never will be. Have a happy Easter.🥚
Is it just me or did Leon never come to a complete hold on his start? That looked like a false start to me... Do I think that gave him a competitve advantage? No. But if they are going to call Carles Coll Marti for a false start in his 200 IM then they should have kept that same energy towards Leon.
post the relays. the on-deck view would go nuts
Why arent the stands filled? This is the best swim meet every year. Should be standing room only.
That’s what I was thinking
My only guess is the fans are all behind the cameraman, but I wondered the same thing.
