There’s a match that is often over looked. Shortly after Yokozuna died the Undertaker defeated Raven. This during the American Badass Era and the Undertaker came out without his motorcycle and wearing a Yokozuna tee shirt. After the match the Undertaker pointed to his shirt and pointed to the sky. That match was for Yokozuna.
Do u know when this aired? Sunday night heat? Raw? Shotgun sat. Night??
ibzan arroyo Raw.
Kool
Beautiful
Thanks. I gotta check that out
Yoko was tight, favorite theme song ever. One of the most impressive big men I've watched work. I used to whistle his theme song to my son as a baby to help him calm down or go to sleep when his mom wasn't around.
How does the song go ???
@@Super122291 just s bunch of flutes , very relaxing
Finally the long awaited Yokozuna episode.
The NEW gen era is the stuff that i grew up on.
And Yokozuna was 1 of the few highlights during that era.
Always enjoyed his work.
53:15 Yoko and his flipflops story 😆
I can just picture it.
Typical Mr Fuji btw xD
54:22
Helicopter story and Vince losing his sh*t
OMG
loved the new generation era
Yep, this was my era too as a kid
The 1980 and 90 where better then the new era suck sorry to say
Starts at 5:51

As w
I remember Yoko destroying Hacksaw Jim Duggan with 4 Banzai Drops in February 1993
I remember that episode!
I cried lol
If I remember correctly he "broke his sternum"
I heard Duggan suffered cracked ribs from those Banzai Drops
One of my favorite moments
I started watching WWF through old PPV VHS rentals at my local independent "Pop & Go", our version of Blockbuster. Those wrestling classics could be found next to the pornos in the small room behind the black curtain, and through these tapes I got a hankering for coffin matches, royal rumbles and the whacky 80s that ran rampant in the WWF at the time. I didn't realize it first, but Yoko is in the same vein as Jake the Snake, a performer who goes under the radar at first but steals your heart before you even realize it.
29:58 February 6, 1963?? Damn, Conrad made us all get old! Actually it was 2/6/93 and was taped a month earlier on 1/5/93. I remember how HUGE the reaction was when Hacksaw knocked Yokozuna down, and how the crowd nearly became riotous when Yokozuna dropped that quartet of banzai drops (including the last on the American flag!)
I laughed when he said that!
Honestly when I saw this was a Yokozuna episodes and it was damn near 3 hours I didnt think it would hold my interest but man this has got to be one of the best STW episodes
"Good Night brudda" needs to be a shirt!
I got into wrestling in late 90s but really cool to hear and learn about Yoko in this episode. Thank You!
We need a 2005 Summerslam show. I'd love to hear about the debacle of Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan
And the eddie, Ray ladder match over Dominic's custody
Did anybody actually continue watching wrestling after WrestleMania 20?
I must drop an additional comment on this video just to acknowledge how good this episode was, really enjoy the wrestler profile/bio shows.
Yes!!!! Finally a trip back to my childhood
Obnoxious generation. I'm sure they did it just for you.
So, I’ve been one of the guys who have said “Yokozuna show?!? Who wants that?!?” This was a great show and reminded me a lot of my childhood. Really enjoyed it.
Yokozuna was is still is my favorite wrestler thank you Yokozuna for everything you did for the wwe rest in peace
He was in WWF
“Killed it for me.”
To some degree it killed it for everyone.
I mean Yoko was always a top notch monster, but when they REALLY went to pay this stuff off, at the next ‘Mania, the impact of Bret toppling wasn’t as unbelievably huge as it could have been.
If Hogan hadn’t beat Yoko, then Yoko would have been a monster that no one could stop for a year straight.
Bret/Taker FINALLY toppling THAT beast would have been pretty much the biggest deal since Andre.
Especially since it meant zero storyline-wise. Hogan just won the WWF belt only to never wrestle once on WWF TV until Yokozuna won it back. It was done just to get a superficial pop to close WrestleMania IX. For that, it worked, but it was bad for the WWF in the long run.
Yeah they totally drop the ball with mania 9. I've never been a Hogan fan, but especially by this point I really hated Hulk.
I hated that. I love Hogan but him beating Yoko was trash. Yoko would have gotten crazy heat closing Wrestlemania and Bret finally beating would have been huge
@@BGLEE001 yeah to me it was Hogan politics in plain sight. But then to go from Hogan to lex was an extra bit of bullshit. Shoulda gone back to Bret. Woulda been a huge baby face victory and if done right still have yoko getting plenty of heat.
It didn't kill it for me. I stayed in kayfabe and said that Hogan beat him because he just had a grueling match against Bret and was tired. Matter of fact it made it better for me because when Hogan beat Yoko in 21 minutes I already knew it was Hogan's politicking that led to that. So I knew then that Yoko was going to get his come upence' later on and Hogan was going to get beat for the title in a fare and square match against Yokozuna!
I literally had tears listening to the end of his life... Man he's truly missed. RIP Yoko...
His leg drop looked more frightening than the Banzai Drop. That leg looked like he just collapsed a man's skull.
Always got a great crowd reaction too.
And he always did it so smoothly. Hulk Hogan's leg got nothing on that
It always feels so weird that Yokozuna, this other worldly monster kinda guy, died within walking distance of where I lived. In Liverpool City centre at the Moat House Hotel, which was demolished to make way for the shopping centre called Liverpool 1. That's just mental to me, he died where Liverpool 1 is. It's just hard to get that round my head for some reason.
1:51:48 Godfather clarified on a DVD somewhere that BSK did indeed stand for Bone Street Krew, and that it did indeed refer to all their domino games.
I think Godfather said that in one of the Attitude Era network specials
Facts!!
Yoko was badass! I have the April 94 WWF Mag with He Lex and Bret on cover signed by all 3! Got it right b4 Yoko died, so Happy I did!
Wanna sell it?
That's dope bro
nice! how soon before he died did you get it?
ajk he’s lying you moron
29:54 I remember seeing this match, but I wasnt born til 20 years after 1963...
I wish they would release a DVD of his life!
1:41:33 Story of Yokozuna eating 50 deep fried turkey butts dipped in mayo (JR referred to them as turkey tails in a similar story).
Admit it. Your favorite wrestler to play in WrestleMania The Arcade Game was this behemoth.
Great Show, Yoko one of the great super heavyweights that could move around in the ring. R.I.P.
“He could tear up a Korean bbq” lmfao I can’t 😂😂😂😂
You can't what?
Big_dro I can’t take internet sarcasm 😂😂😂😂
Hippie Sunflower I know what your saying. I can't either 🤣
I can't last 3 rounds eating Korean bbq
dont forget that turkey a$$🤣🤣🤣
Man, its about time huh
Yoko gets some love
Yoko's early 90's run is legendary and very underrated. He was one of the best big men ever (that I know of) in the business. Great worker for his size and gimmick who could really move well to be as huge as he was. And mostly everyone has high praise for him as a worker and a person. He was one of my favorites, for sure, R.I.P.
No joke about that live reaction "gasp"...so awesome to have seen him during that push.
Flatulence Pile u shut fuck up loser thats all u got damn waste of life
This is great, but are we ever getting a Mick Foley episode?
There's one on when he won the championship in 98. But nothing dedicated to his entire career, I don't think.
Wanna hear about Bam Bam Bigalow and yeah bringing mick in as mankind.. Also Diesel as well..
A part of me wants to hear about Santino Marello... Since he was one of my favorites and bruce was there for his start
I would like them to do a Booker T/King Booker episode
We get a lot of info on individuals even in PPV episodes. Foley has been talked about a bunch. 35-40 minutes (maybe more) just on the KotR 98 episode (Hell in a Cell) was dedicated to Foley and Taker. The Raw episode where he won the title had a good deal on him, too. A Foley episode wouldn't have much left to talk about. Bruce didn't work with Mick a whole lot, so probably nota lot more to tell
Also hoping we will see a Kane and Jim Johnson episode. Always wanted to Bruce thought of Billy Kidman's theme/lyrics from Jim Johnson. Since its a very stalker/sexual assault song
I never thought I'd here a Mannie Fresh and Birdman shoutout on something to wrestle
The helicopter story is f**king hilarious. That's a shirt
I waited for this show for so long, Thank you so much for making it happen
Hogan was pinned by Taker in 1991, jeez Conrad, jeez
Yes!!!! Been waiting on this one.
that Todd Pettengill ad-libbing rendition was top-notch hahaha
If you watch a lot of the old Yoko matches, you’ll notice he used to semi regularly do a rock bottom as a kind of long 2 count move. Must be a popular one with the Samoan guys a guess.
His nephew Solo Sikoa is now using that move
Saw Yoko vs Taker and Hogan at houseshows in Germany I went to in 1993. Both matches ended with DQ-finishes of course. Still very impressing.
Can we get a faction warfare episode in the near future??? Those days when wwf was hanging on by a thread to compete with wcw are fascinating
Poor Yoko...had to believe he was been gone nearly 20 years. The Moat house Hotel where he died was torn down in 2005 due to the discovery of asbestos
"He was huge. He was just fucking huge. He was just way too big!" 😂😂😂
Excellent - as usual. I am going to a diner and ordering Turkey ass with a jar of mayo.Thank you Bruce and Conrad.
I always order the Turkey ass 😆
I love this podcast really brightens up my day after a rough one Bruce your Dusty impressions are fricon hilarious to lol.
1:33:03 I always read that it was apparently Bret Hart and Undertaker who were nearby discussing business when Bret heard the explosion/spraying water from the washroom, they bust through the door and found Yoko sitting in the shattered remains with poop/water everywhere, Hart/Taker had to duck back/choke back laughter for a moment to come back and look all serious with Yoko pleading for them to get him out. [www.inquisitr.com/1612427/wwe-the-undertaker-and-bret-hart-once-had-a-yokozuna-poop-encounter-backstage/]
Also remember reading about a rib on how Mr. Perfect made Yoko think he had chocolate bars on a plane/kept asking him for more . . . which actually turned out to be laxatives and poor Yoko had to have newspapers set up near the back area while the poor stewardess's had to keep the curtains closed while Yoko had to relieve himself in the air. Can't imagine how bad that was and/or how much Yoko probably wanted to kill Perfect after that. (surprised Bruce didn't share that story if it did indeed happen.) [www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/2ybg7q/bret_hart_tells_a_hilarious_story_about_mr/]
Despite the stories, will always remember and love Yoko as the greatest monster heel in WWE history.
Mr. Fuji helped Yoko with baths and wiped his ass if needed 132:52. I used to think Fuji was a total asshole for the mean-spirited ribs, but this shows a totally different side. Respect to Mr. Fuji
Great episode guys. Would love to hear a Ken Shamrock one 👍
"Regis is great and Kathy is Kathy. " lol
This was a great episode. The helicopter story had me dying 😅😅😅
I remember attending a show in Bournemouth, England in December 1993. I saw Yokozuna against Undertaker. I was in awe of his size! Plus I heard him speak too! He was mocking us kids at ringside. I was shocked that this "Japanese" wrestler spoke perfect English. 😂 Great memories.
Bruce tell the guys running the Network to put the Free For All’s on there. There’s good stuff
29:57 "On February 6th 1963 on superstars Duggan is going to succeed in knocking yokozuna down" 😂
LMAO 😂 LMAO 1963
King Sports 🏈
The Intrepid is an aircraft carrier, not a battleship FYI.
I watched the Yokozuna vs Austin match as a 14 year old kid. I remember the rope breaking and till this STW episode, I believed it was not scripted. Oh the good old days...
You could put Yokozuna's 1993-94 up against anybody best year as far as who he defeated in a calendar year
You better believe it. Yokozuna was a truly believable monster heel, one of the best in WWF history.
He destroyed Hulkamania!!!
We Worldwide! YES! Finally! Good riddance! And when Hogan returned in 2002 and said the fans drove him out of the WWF, I was screaming "NO, Hogan, it was YOKOZUNA who drove you out of the WWF!"
Thanks yall, glad you listen to your fans request. Keep up the good work.
Holy shit, I saw his ppv debut? Cleveland Survivor Series
One more thing to add: The stories you get from wrestling, in particular what goes on behind the scenes, road trip stories, ribbing stories, airport/flying stories are stories you will never get from the NBA, and NFL combined. Very interesting indeed. By the way What do y'all think Yoko's max bench press was?? I bet the man could bench well over 300 lbs easily. That's the only thing Conrad left out of this episode. I'm sure Yoko did some weight training early in his career in his prime.
Yo man I was 6'0 195lbs lifting over 300 lbs just because i worked out an hour a day for 6 months or so... most of the guys in the WWE are probably lifting between 400-600lbs for a 1 rep max, even the guys without a great physique or size like Mick Foley should be lifting north of 300lbs. So 600lb, athletic, extremely agile, Samoan Yokozuna is certainly able to lift well over 300lbs. I'd venture to say when he was in shape that was part of his warm up.
So mr. Fuji was yokozuna's home health aide and social worker? That's crazy but awesome of Fuji to help the man out.
Love these individual wrestler episodes... keep them coming!
I remember WWF wrestlemania arcade game. Yoko was my favorite character.
I thought I had heard one time that the traditional Samoan diet was very high in fat. And I was thinking, "Maybe that's why all the Samoan wrestlers are big, heavy guys"
Rikishi calls mayonnaise "Samoan steroids."
Yes most of them are fat
This was an awesome podcast episode. Working man's podcast. Y'all put a lot better content out right now than ESPN does on First Take. Their content sucks. I't's all about LeBron and Brady........Anyway R.I.P. to Yokozuna. I didn't see a lot of his matches but the one I did see was against the Undertaker in the Casket Match on here. Good match with a great ending in that match with Taker on the Jumbo screen ascending to the heavens so to speak. Guess Conrad didn't like it at all since he skipped right over it. As athletic as Yoko was in the early 90's, I'm real surprised he never got a call from an NFL team after he became real famous in the WWF. I would have liked to think once he fulfilled his 3-5 year contract deal with the WWF, he would have made it to the NFL. Yoko would have made a good offensive lineman, or a really good center.
"turkey ass dipped in mayonnaise" Conrad acts all surprise though. meanwhile JR told Conrad about Yoko eating deep fried turkey tails dipped in mayonnaise. Maybe he forgot or maybe this episode was recorded before the JR episode.
They both sound revolting to me lol
He was surprised by the fact that Bruce said a COUPLE JARS of mayo, that’s a lot.
The cross over between Sumo and wrestling is HUGE in Japan.
Rikidozan, the man who started ProWrestling in Japan was ex-sumo and was found and trained in America because he met a pro wrestler in a bar who wanted to use him in the US as a foreign heel.
Rikidozan went back to Japan and brought prowrestling with him.
There is a documentary on his life and the start of Japanese pro wrestling here for free on youtube, search Rikidozan.
Its very good.
I hope you guys do a full episode on the Samoan dynasty from the beginning to now.
Would be a solid episode IMO
This was a great podcast. Conrad and Bruce had a great conservation on Yoko. This has to be one of the best episodes in the business. Yoko was probably one of the best big men. I agree with Bruce, that promo with Fuji wanted Yoko to crush the casket and when Taker popped out has to be one of the funniest promos in the business. Yoko was funny as hell falling on his ass running scared of the Undertaker. I think Yoko had a long reign as WWF Champion cause it happened in 1993. 1993 was a such a down year for wrestling after Hulk Hogan and the shit hit the fan with the steroid trial. I agree with Bruce, I would have had Yoko drop the title to the Undertaker nothing against Bret. Bret has always had great runs as champion but something about Taker and Yoko screamed great chemistry and those stories were like vacation setting up the feuds. Bruce and Conrad will have a great October and November at Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard. A Lot of great topics coming up. Especially next week with Smackdown presenting No Mercy 2004 (that was during the time where Raw and Smackdown would alternate PPVs but meet at the big 4).
Time to talk Mick Foley guys! Please!
He’s one of the most respected and liked Wrestlers ever.
Idk he seems as much of a crybaby as Bret hart judging by his books.
1993 - Asian Americans are concerned that a Japanese wrestler is portrayed badly. 2019 - Karia Sane, Io Shirai, Asuka, and Shinsuke Nakamura have all turned heel, including gimmicks around spitting green mist or refusing to speak English. Glad we have come so far.
@4:45
Bruce was right, Pat Patterson does love to work with peter ......
1:24 fifty shades of grey line had me crying with laughter😂😂😂
I beat da pussy like hulk hogan 😁
Hall Ho Gee
Incorrect about last time Hogan was pinned being 1990 Mania. Undertaker beat him for the title in 91 on PPV Survivor Series
Yoko lost 33lbs after taking massive shit! That is hysterical!
"Ghahd DAAMNN it...."
dude what is that drop from.. its driving me nuts.. i know exactly what you're talking about but i can't fucking remember what its from
Bret probably practiced the Sharpshooter because that set up the finish of WM 9. Sharpshooter and then salt in the eyes..
46:10 Conrad must have forgotten about Survivor Series 91 when Taker pinned Hogan clean on PPV
Taker also beat hogan for the belt at this Tuesday in Texas I do believe but I could be thinking of the survivor series match
It wasn't clean. Remember the Flair interference?
Using a steel. Chair to tombstone hogan on is not a clean pin
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 Dying laughing at these fools talking hip hop!!! Conrad earned like 20'000 cool points with the big tymers reference that started it!!!
I was there for the 1993 cage match at msg , Bret and Yoko tore it up.
Lies
THE GOOD GUY how do u know he’s lying idiot
BANZAI!!!
I wonder if Conrad sees any parallels with him and Yokozuna
Haha. Two fat fucks talking about another fat fuck.
TroystonB show some love to the chubby guys Troy
Do a Mr. Fuji show please!
Awesome I've been looking forward to this.
They need to talk about Diesel aka Kevin Nash & also WWF 1993 was THE worst
We've heard a lot about him on previous shows. Bruce didn't work with him that long. Probably not a lot more to tell.
I vividly recall the effect that Yokozuna's music used to have.
For about a year he was the man in WWF. I guess Ric Flair would be suing, were he still around.
As a kid his run felt like 20 years. I swore he was undefeated forever haha even thinking back now I thought it was longer then a year.
@2:16:37 "It got a dud rating but... who cares what Meltzer thought about this, this was entertaining to me"
Am I drunk right now? Or did I hear that properly? Way to go Conrad. Above and beyond.
FUNNY SHIT. this latest episode is already my new favorite.
01:25:00 THERE AMIGOS IS HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂😂
A sumo wrestler is called a Rikishi.
Yoko should have been unbeatable until WM X with Bret.
This is fun, what's the status on the King Kong Bundy episode?
Dig dig diggity dig diggity dawg
I love the story of the ropes breaking. Happy accidents
"The toilet exploded." Fuck me.
Fuji was a pro. Harley did the same thing with Happy Humphrey
That "Free For All" Match w/Austin is on the Free For All VHS
Great episode
Vince got this one right. Lex has the charisma of a tuna sandwich on white.
Great podcast! Great Stories!
“Cue the fucking helicopter!!!!
“....a couple jars?!”
Fuji could be vicious when he wanted to be.
The Undertaker's best friend Mr Rodney "Yokozuna" Anoa'i.
