People forget that Mustangs are so successful that Ford cancelled every car they made *Except* the Mustang. They've been a cheap option for decades. Mustangs are like air: So common, you forget its there.
I originally wanted to get a GR86 during 2022, but dealer markups were insane to the point where a new GR86 was the same price as my 6k under MSRP new 2021 Mustang GT. I’ve learned a lot about the mustang platform and have grown to really enjoy the form factor and the aftermarket community. My biggest drive was to build my mustang GT into a road course oriented car instead of the typical drag car build.
I scooped up a 2010 GT500 for 30k. Upgraded supercharger pulley, exhaust and tune. 30k for almost 600whp is a nutty deal. Ive actually kinda abandoned my love for JDM stuff because of the absurd prices. Still have my miata though
Thanks for the cameo at 3:20! We bought that car for roughly $10k 10 years ago and have been building it ever since. We continue to stick with our new-edge because it’s proven to be able to compete/win against 6th-gen Camaros and 7th gen Mustangs. We’ve also learned a ton along the way as we’ve modified nearly every aspect of this car.
I have an ‘18 Focus ST and it’s a car that I’m never going to sell because of how good and easy it is to work on. It’s reliable, it’s fun, it looks cool and it’s pretty quick for a 4 door compact hatchback. This car has a lot more power than its 2 closest competitors, the Civic Si and the Golf GTi. It’s more on par with the Subaru WRX (minus the AWD), but it’s just as fun, much more reliable and easier to work on. I know I’m a Ford fanboy but they just make great quality vehicles for their price point for different enthusiasts. They have the Raptor: used ones go for under $40k all day. Which is you look at the capabilities of that truck, that’s an insane deal. You can get into a V8 muscle car for $5k for an older model, and around $25k for one of the newer ones with the backup cam, nice interior and all the modern interior features. You can get a fun FWD budget daily like a Focus/Fiesta ST for as low as $8k (Fiesta) and $12k (Focus) for GOOD examples. Not to mention, the aftermarket support for all these platforms is massive, so finding mods for these cars is never going to be an issue.
@JMG0590 absolutely, I've got a 2018 FoST I've been daily driving for almost 3 years now, FBO and BT for the last 3 months, I'm only about 6k in on mods and it's an absolute blast to drive, super easy to work on, most things are easier with a second set of hands but can be done on jack stands in a garage. My wife helped me with installing the new turbo and it was her first time wrenching and she loved it, might try to pick one up for her in the near future.
@@JMG0590 DEFINITELY a great buy in 2024. Prices for these cars are at an all time low right now, and they’re capable little hot hatches! You can’t go wrong with either the Focus or Fiesta. The Fiesta has more of that “tossable go-kart” feel to it, and it feels quicker than it really is. The Focus on the other hand is heavier, but it’s significantly more spacious inside, and the 2.0 eco boost is a very capable engine. Not sure exactly how much the 1.6L in the Fiesta can handle, but I’ve read that they’re also capable of well over 300hp. The fun thing about those cars is that when you’re pushing 300-ish horsepower, that’s already more than enough to have fun. The ST community is really helpful. There are tons of forums that go over fixing common issues, how to mod your car properly, and answer most questions that people have about both platforms (Focus & Fiesta ST). Personally I like the Focus more. And I’ve owned both, but honestly you can’t go wrong with either
Ford really gets overlooked in the performance car scene. They are one of the only manufacturers that actually seems to care about their customers. Giving Ford owners FREE experiences like octane academy for the Focus and Fiesta ST guys. The new Mustang driver academy that is again FREE. Or the amazing aftermarket partnerships that they have with brands like Roush, Saleen, and RTR. All of these brands, especially RTR gives back to Ford owners and enthusiasts with amazing experiences.
Mustangs and C5 vettes are going to be the best bang for your buck at this point in the game....cheap, good power from the start, great mod support and endless supply of junkyard parts to be scavenged.
Don't sleep on the fiesta ST guys. Suspension, wheels, big turbo and all supporting mods for around $20k including the price of the car. I've had a 2004 mach 1, 2004 cobra, MKIV VW R32 etc. and the fiesta is my favorite car of all. Full on go kart for the street.
@@chrisjosekuehl No, the 1.6 is a tough little engine. With a proper tune the stock engine can be very reliable up to around 330whp. Many owners have gone beyond that without issue, but its basically the agreed upon safe ceiling. Mine has been in the 280-300whp range for 25k miles and hasn't skipped a beat. Most of the ecoboost problems you've probably heard about were related to the 2.0 in the early model year Focus STs.
As a JDM fan boy, it's sad, but American cars are so affordable and easy to repair when you break and blow things up... which is gonna happen when you race stuff.
I picked up my 04 new edge GT for $1100. I’m not a ford fan, actually I’m a gm fan boy but trying to find a Camaro or firebird from the same generation for less than 5k is near impossible. I immediately took the mustang on a 2000 mile rally (video on my channel). Two weeks later I took it on another 500 mile rally. Had to change the intake midway through the first trip but I was still blow away I was able to limp that 4.8 nearly 3000 miles lol. Planning on building it into a legit rally/safari car this fall.
STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP. SN-95's are currently averaging $3k Right now, DOn'T RUIN THIS FOR ME. I've been looking into one to make into a drift car for awhile. If you make them explode in price I'll never forgive you.
Bought a 2020 mustang gt brand new and recently picked up a 2014 shelby gt500. I absolutely love both of these cars. The gt is so fun to take up and down mountains with eibach sportlines and the shelby is such a scary fun ride that wants to slide everywhere. Absolutely love both cars and plan to track them once i get some better wheel and tire setups with some extra goodies under the hood.
I have owned a 97 Cobra, 03 Cobra (why did I sell it?), and now an 01 Cobra. The 01 is a roller that I plan to drop a coyote and T56 into it. It's already modified with about 10k in parts and upgrades that I don't have to dump into it (K-member, suspension, rear IRS bushings and halfshafts, fuel system and more). The new edges are probably one of the better deals right now that you can easily buy parts off the shelf that are still affordable.
My dad was into lowriders and muscle cars so that’s what I started off liking. But with movies and video games I got into tuners in the 2000s like you said. Now I appreciate everything don’t really have a favorite type of car. New edge and sn95 are dope. And people forget about the terminator
I’m really suprised more people aren’t running rwd trucks, even when they were new a manual v8 work truck variant of the f150, 1500, rangers, Dakota, rams, were all super affordable and they made a ton of torque and were absolutely tanks, I used ti drift our company work truck all the time.
I really wish I could have been able to afford the early 2000’s cobra r, independent rear suspension, tons of upgrades for reliable tracking, ad I think it still is beautiful to this day. Of course these day I think they go for 6 figures, I also would love to find a mercury marauder and do a manual seap
I have a S197 and I love it. the best part is the amount of aftermarket compatibility and options. How ive always looked at ford specially since about 2010 is they build a platform, race it, drift it ect. then revamp the road model run ir for a couple more years then rinse and repeat every model. look at FD for example, take BC, Summit Racing and Roush. every time a new platform enters the scene they get to develop and test new after market parts. Being that its an American platform and you also have other American companies like Selby, Saleen and Roush that make whole cars and kits for them make the after market almost seem bloated but im sure its the same if you had a 350z in japan I would assume. Point being, Here in America the mustang is a great car for enthusiast in my opinion because 1. there are alot of them out there in all models. 2. cost for parts are usually cheaper because there American made and dont have to ship as far. 3. there are professionals like Von, Chelsie, Adam LZ who regularly use them and talk about them so you not just following some youtuber for advice or inspiration (not saying thats a bad thing).
I have been telling my friends the 00-10 mustang v8’s have gotta be the new entry level drift cars. I should have bought one a few months ago the price of them just went up thanks Alex 😂
I’ve got a 94 3.8L SN95. I like Autocross and touge. So far, I’ve only done touge, but I’ve kept up with Miatas, Mazda 3s, etc. with 30 year old suspension bushings that made the car wander and slide around each corner. There is this Audi that I have my sights on and with the new suspension components I should be able to improve a lot more. This has also been without subframe connectors btw
Currently making a spreadsheet of modern cars with at MSRP to see what you can get for what price. Just to further my knowledge of the modern equipment. But American cars do have more HP for less $. But there's still other differences than just HP from other manufacturers
You know what this means, right? Now YOU have to buy an SN95 Mustang to prove your point. On the note of cheap tuning, I spent under $400 for a full exhaust or my 5th gen Pontiac GTO. Maximizer catted long tube headers and an OBX catback from Walmart. There's no way in hell im dropping $3000+ for a full exhaust.
I really wish those gto’s sold more, the manual versions are rare and people want to charge too much for them, I’d much rather have a 6.2 manual gto than a mustang or Camaro base v8’s,
I've been saying this for years now. If i was gonna build a drift car I'd just buy a mustang and do suspension. out of the box the power is decent and small upgrades are cheap compared to more desirable platforms. Not saying I'm a fan I like subies and toyotas but yeah the bang for your buck is no joke here.
I’ve been saying this loudly for a few years now! Picked up a 2006 GT 1 owner for 5,000! Put another 5k into it and bam- Drift Car! Great video as always Alex!
You're right, Sn95s and New Edges are 100% the cheapest way to get into motorsports right now. Plus, they're incredibly entertaining to drive. I'm about to buy and build a 4th one. Now, please stop talking about them and inflating the prices, lol.
100% agreed, Ford is killing it for best bang for your buck and SO much support. I personally own a 450 WHP 2.0 eco boost Lincoln MKZ, and I tell everyone to get into Lincoln as you get cheap Ford parts but luxury of a Lincoln. The 2.0 is going crazy with Chelsea denofa killing it drifting with his fox body mustang. Love the vids man been watching since day one and the previous channel 😉
If a rise in popularity means the prices go up, on the other hand maybe at least Polyphony will put one back in Gran Turismo. Probably not, but a guy can dream.
when you hear the color, French Blue Metallic, you think exotic super car or maybe a high-end euro car of some sort. Wrong, Ford focus baby. I feel like ford is really doing it right with the s550 and s650 though currently, give us back the focus st and i think it would quickly become a fan favorite yet again.
You can also get a MK1 Focus for literal Hundreds, buy a 2.0t for also hundreds from a wrecked For Escape... and if you wanna be really fancy... RWD conversion kits do exist...
My first car was a 94 gt convertible and I loved it but unfortunately I blew it up so now I’m rebuilding an 88 gt with a coyote and I love this car to so I think they’re alright
The fact i can drop 32k including mods and car price and get 1000whp on a car now is crazy and i think it just shows how good ford engineering and the after market for mustangs can be
There are very few rwd cars that can actually seat 4 people. I used to track race a lot, then I got kids, now they are almost all grown but I want a track car that can still carry the whole family. 240’s are completely overpriced even though they are kind of a bucket these days. The is300 is almost impossible to find in a manual and you’ll pay too much, the clean g35/37 manuals are also overpriced and very hard to find in a manual. But thankfully the Mustang and the Camaro are not only pretty available with manuals and as long as I get a 16 or newer they will both have IRS, which was held me off before from getting a mustang, even though for some reason the Camaros are quite a bit more than the mustang for similar equipment. Even though I’ve always been a Chevy guy for my old schools and trucks, I did own a 59 ranchero that was pretty cool. I’m getting close to convincing the wife that it’s time for me to start tracking again.
Delete this before prices skyrocket. New edges are already getting harder to find. Even the v6 cars, in my area last year, i could find a v6 for 1500, now i can't even find a shell for 2k
Not gonna lie ford mustang are the cheapest to get and parts are pretty affordable. So makes sense as a budget drift car or even a regular car. So common that many people forget about them
ALEX IF YOU WANT A STANG THEN NC IS WHERE THEY PASTURE.....IVE GOT A FEW MAY HAVE ONE WITH YOU NAME ON IT AS LONG AS YOU GUYS DO IT JUSTICE AND PUT THE SAME EFFORTS TO IT AS YOU DO THE JDM AND GERMAN CARS YOU OWN.....MAY HAVE A GT FOX (BEST STANGS) WORTH DONATING IF I CAN WATCH ITS REBIRTH ON THE CHANNEL....I JUST CAN'T CRUSH THESE THINGS IT HURTS MY HEART IF I DO.....
Now I'm curious about their other cars like the Taurus SHO or the ST siblings. Sure, not as versatile as the Mustang but since the title said FORD and not MUSTANG, it really should be brought up.
The SHO’s have real reliability issues and the engines are mostly built my Yamaha so it doesn’t share a lot of parts with other fords, unless you’re talking about the more recent one, I almost bought a focus rs, but there were so many people with blown blocks trying to increase power.
I think the reason ford isn’t going to kill the mustang is because of its success and racing heritage. I think if for were to kill the mustang they would at least have the perfect swan song for it and it would be a perfect swan song for the muscle car that really kickstarted the muscle car era.
Yeah people are sleeping on v6 sn95/new edge mustangs hard... there's gotta be 5000 of them available cheap across america and if you don't have fetal alcohol syndrome you can build those very nicely.
Ford isn't just the answer to affordable racing. You can make money racing a Ford. If you want to get into rally racing and you buy a focus or fiesta or really, any ford product and compete in sanctioned. Rally events and you do good Ford will give you a kickback for the advertising. It's similar to what mazda does for the spec meota series
It’s not as small or light and an actual ls, but the engines are tanks, you can find cheap v8’s from the old crown Vic’s, one of the police agencies I contracted with has their training car, it had a cage and they used it to teach cops how to drive fast and do another maneuvers, it had over 300k of hard and I mean hard miles on it. It only ever needed routine maintenance, of course police agencies do stellar on the maintenance.
i’m fucking haaaaaate these car lists let the cars stay lowkey. it’s not even gatekeeping, anybody into cars doing ANY research will find this shit out. all these videos do is give foe-enthusiasts a way to skip what should be looked at like a barrier of entry, honestly
They might be a little overpriced but it’s a super rare hyper performance model of the most popular pony car in America, the only mustangs that might be worth more would be a Cobra R and any Shelby models.
I hate to say this but cars are so damn expensive right now maybe a mustang really is a good option now. I keep hearing people mention this in threads about cheap power. Its such a basic bitch car though, for non-car guys to feel cool that i would be embarrassed to drive one (though they are badass) But now that EVERYTHING from japan is 30k+ the mustang might just be the new honda civic...

Thanks Alex, now the price of New Edge's are going to go through the roof!🙄
If a rise in popularity means the prices go up, on the other hand maybe at least Polyphony will put one back in Gran Turismo. Probably not, but a guy can dream.
when you hear the color, French Blue Metallic, you think exotic super car or maybe a high-end euro car of some sort. Wrong, Ford focus baby. I feel like ford is really doing it right with the s550 and s650 though currently, give us back the focus st and i think it would quickly become a fan favorite yet again.
They are adictivo.. once u buy one ..your HOOKED!
Fr tho quick napkin builds for an '04 are tallying up darn pretty!
I didn’t even know you had your own channel after fitment industries damnit
You can also get a MK1 Focus for literal Hundreds, buy a 2.0t for also hundreds from a wrecked For Escape... and if you wanna be really fancy... RWD conversion kits do exist...
My first car was a 94 gt convertible and I loved it but unfortunately I blew it up so now I’m rebuilding an 88 gt with a coyote and I love this car to so I think they’re alright
I'm on marketplace right now. I don't see any manual mustangs that aren't crashed for under $15k
LUNCH VIDEO!!! 💪🫡
Shhhiiiiiii
There goes my cheap mustang prices
Yes ( I drive a 1973 240Z)
New Edge prices are about to go up lol
@Morgan Drifts on the thumbnail 👀
Delete this before prices skyrocket. New edges are already getting harder to find. Even the v6 cars, in my area last year, i could find a v6 for 1500, now i can't even find a shell for 2k
STOP MAKING MY MUSTANGS EXPENSIVE!! DONT SHARE THE SECRETS 🤣🤣
Alex with that said, you guys haven't made a proper video on the SVT Cobras.
New edge mustangs are very overlooked
Mustangs are super easy drift cars, lol. Except for the S550, that one definitely takes a little more experienced driver to be able to wheel it lol.
Random Hank is Built Ford Proud. Nuff said
I'm not gonna lie I hate my mustang but damn is it cheap to work on
I have a 98 GT drift car, it rips
Imo, I always thought a Ford V8 swap would have been more interesting than another LS.
And now mustangs just got expensive
Welp there goes cheap Mustang prices lol
Looks like I’m not buying a mustang now
I kind of feel like this is just a big advertisement for C J Pony parts
i’m fucking haaaaaate these car lists
let the cars stay lowkey. it’s not even gatekeeping, anybody into cars doing ANY research will find this shit out. all these videos do is give foe-enthusiasts a way to skip what should be looked at like a barrier of entry, honestly
No bro stop the new eage mustangs were my secret 🤦🏻♂️💯
Oh FUCK ME, now I gotta plan to get something else cuz Mustang prices are gonna go to the roof
I’ve been joking about how bmws are the new Silvia’s 😢
Barra powered FG Falcon..
Mopars are cheap, too. U can get hemi chargers magnums and 300s for under 6k.
No manuals, gross
boat cars
I would love a Terminator cobra but sadly they are overpriced!!!
They might be a little overpriced but it’s a super rare hyper performance model of the most popular pony car in America, the only mustangs that might be worth more would be a Cobra R and any Shelby models.
@@chrisjosekuehl the cobra R is rare…….terminator cobras are not. I’d say they are uncommon.
One like in my local area and I can pull up 8 for sale
If i did not live in nyc i could own a car😢.
I feel like Fords are easy to work on to
Don’t tell anybody about 96-01 Cobra’s Alex
The answer is ford if you are in the US, in other regions it would change
I hate to say this but cars are so damn expensive right now maybe a mustang really is a good option now. I keep hearing people mention this in threads about cheap power. Its such a basic bitch car though, for non-car guys to feel cool that i would be embarrassed to drive one (though they are badass) But now that EVERYTHING from japan is 30k+ the mustang might just be the new honda civic...
Ironically I’m throwing the 2.5 from the ford fusion in my Mazda 3 🤣 motor is ridiculously cheap
96 gt doesn’t make 400 horsepower
Put your money where your mouth is. You’ve been touting this for months and if it’s not just another advertising gimmick, where’s yours?
1 view in 1 min bro fell off 💀
This channel is cooked 😂
Hey sn95 owner for 24 yrs this a another great commercial
Hey Alex " the liberal" Martini...where are those bubba Wallace nooses at??😂😂😂
A single cab Chevy Silverado of the same era with a 5.3 can beat a mustang in terms of racing but not drifting.
I would like to get a junk Foxbody notchback ($500 all day where i live)... Get all the parts exterior like the Saleen Mustang... And K Swap It... 🤷🏽
