    I was at this show. It was over 100 degrees in the stadium and no beer was being sold. Water was around 6.00 a bottle...and REM came out and did the slowest set list I've ever heard. It was painful.

      Yes i was there too and the palpable feeling when REM played was that it was the wrong environment for their show. It kind of killed the mood. My friends and i still laugh to this day about it.

    'Nightswimming' and 'Daysleeper' are songwriting masterpieces in my book, but 'E-Bow the Letter' is my all-time favorite REM tune. I was over the moon when Stipe introduced Thom Yorke to perform Patti Smith's parts during the Tibetan Freedom concert at RFK in '98. Chills. What incredibly packed lineup on that second day. No band got a full set, but it was pure magic.

    I think airportman was pretty much all peter buck, i remember reading an interview with him about the time of this when they played this and he said he looked out to the audience and all he saw was fucking confusion
