In this Video i see a real disadvantages of analog gear is that you waste a lot of time setting it up and have less space in your studio, but now or less surely for „real“ mastering analog gear seems to be a must have.
Yea! Bravo; and all the best with the new!
Looks great!
Great job, Wytse - I own about 5 % of your gear as a home producer but I have 500 % more cable mess! Taking this as an inspiration for 2023 :-)
You remind me why I decided to go completely in the box a few decades ago.
Velcro your studio together. Like an enormous pedal board 😋
I don’t know why, but this video is so relaxing to watch.
Thanks for this video... This reaffirms that I never want to have an analog studio again. Thank god for being in the box. I don't miss these days at all. I still have a studio with monitors and controllers but have got rid of 90% of the gear. BTW thanks for the Velcro idea. I have a few controllers that keep sliding around and I think the Velcro is the perfect solution.
I kinda love it 😅
This was incredibly satisfying to watch
If anyone's asking about the background music in the timelapses: It's "Sandstorm", by Darude.
Wow what an amazing job you did! Your studio looks sick! Congrats man
The most amazing thing to me is the fact that you have the patience to solder so many cables. I'm pretty sure that blue sparks fly out of the top of my head when I have to do it.
Good job, looks awesome!
Good job man! Wish you a good 2023!
Great work Wytse! Definitely a must do from time to time :)
one of the best parts of doing a nice full redo on one’s studio is getting to re-remember all those good ideas you had along the way that made it possible! Fully defining and documenting the studio gives workflow peace of mind, but also a lot of appreciation for the improvisation, creativity and messiness that makes it special. great video and best of luck w the new config!
remember, Reaper is wierd with rme, turn off harware latency reporting, and use reapers software solution, so your prints are in real time, otherwise they will be offset a tiny bit
Any details or link for those unaware of the reaper solution?
I have never heard of that issue and I don't seem to have any on my setup (last version of Reaper, Windows 11 and an RME UCX II with the latest driver). I have not found any discussion about it online. What are you talking about?
I measured the latency with the loop test (plug a cable from an output to an input on the same sound card). On that system, compensated by the driver, it was 0 sample.
@@Mrlultime There is round trip latency that occurs when moving a source in and out of reainsert, there are two ways around it. first, after pinging the device for a latency offset, bypass reainsert and reactivate it, this will phase align the audio (i dont know why rme and reaper do this) another solution requires a few steps, but makes it so you never have to od the ping, bypass rectivate dance.. and thats turning off hardware latency reporting and have reapers latency compensation do what it does.
P.s mysetup is hdspe aio, aes to rme adi2 pro fs chained with the ucx II... I have a hybrid setup and ive been with RME a long time. Im would never discredit their amazingness. the bug is strange, and far as I know, it probably effects other vendors more than it does RME.
CONGRATS!!!!! IT LOOKS GREAT!!!!
This was great to watch. I’ve got to kick procrastination out the window and get my stuff in my small studio sorted.
super super impressed that your studio is completely solar powered! that's cool as fuck
The whole building (Sound Vision Studio) is solar powered 😊
@@Whiteseastudio Please make a video about the solar setup, I think it has a potential to inspire a lot of people in the studio-owner community.
Inspiring care and self-sufficiency!👏🏻👏🏻👋🏼🧿
Merry Christms, Past Wytse! Happy New Year Present Wytse! Goodness, as much as all of that gear produces fantastic results... It's a lot to deal with and maintain for a small business like yours. I applaud your tidy cables, though!
Congrats to 150000 subscribers!
I'm rebuilding mine, as well. It feels VERY good to be super organized. I also am big on labeling wires. Things will get plugged in straightaway, with zero guessing about anything. Looks GREAT!
"It is now thursday, and I have been so tired that I couldn't find a pair of socks in the same color. Ahh, whatever, this is RUclips and music" xD
Big credits for all the hard work on your studio. I am really in love with everything you got going in there Wytse! Just amazing discipline and work!
I gave up matching my socks by color many years ago....now if they are the same thickness I am happy!
Wytse - I love how you solved a riddle I have been scratching my head at for a year or so. You use a power conditioner as a main hub for power strips! It seemed so obvious when I saw it on this video, but my mind was stuck on the way the Type A / B connectors in the U.S.A. work. The larger EU connector was always obnoxious in a way. Until I saw how you managed them here! Thanks for that! (love the studio setup btw).
U need a nice huge logo in between the black spot between your two speakers maybe in led light
I always forget how much of a monster cables become.
It when you most feel like you have a lot of stuff in your studio when you have to get behind things and sort out wires.
Always look so plush you forget… this was a reminder lol
Wytse this was awesome to watch! And what a cool collection of gear you have accumulated over the years
no snake oil in new video!
job done from heart is nice to watch
congrats!!
Wow you just from from a 9 to 9.5 ....well done ...looks and sounds like a 10 to me ....cheers
Great video - I am going through a revision of my much more modest studio, and am happy I don't have as many cables to handle as you. I replaced my 12 year old Mac Pro, and Digidesign 003 with a Mac Studio Ultra and an MBOX Studio, and between updating software and rerouting cables, I am busy. The results are worth it - the new Mac is silent, so much better when recording with microphones.
looking nice!
Great job!
awesome workl. I recently updated my desk too, cable management is a work in progress. Now I actually found out that I can fix my Kopp multipower plugs into a rack, So that will be done next.
Great Job ! Nice to see that update ;) Cheers from France
very cool
Looks great! Goed gedaan man.
Its been cool watching from where ya came from to now... enjoyed the vid... keep on keeping on...
You can also drill holes on the rack tray and take out probably 2 screws randomly from the bottom of the RME. In that way you can screw it fixed on the rack tray, this is how I get my Lynx Hilo on the desk.
Cute slippers ! :D
Good morning from sunny Devon!
Wytse dropped? Let's goooo 🙏🏾
nothing worse than tangled up spaghetti, unless it's on a plate of course. I don't have anywhere near as much gear as you and it does my head in because cables just wanna do their own thing. It's very cathartic to sort out such a big job in anticipation of a new year, and a whole new blank slate.
The work paid off, and the end result looks brilliant. Super-impressed with what you did with just the power-rack alone, and even more impressed that you have it all solar-powered. Looking forward to more videos in 2023, and I wish you the best of success for the new year Wytse. Great job fella !!
Studio looks amazing - great job. Been watching since you first started on RUclips and your studio evolution has been so well done - congrats.
Also it’s depressing still how many people comment on W’s finger nails. He likes them, end of. Did people not learn that if you’ve nothing nice to say about someone’s appearance then don’t say anything?
W - your gear collection has become really unique, really interesting choices. Regards from Bournemouth England!!
So neat
truly a steely-eyed missile man
Try SCE to AUX
for switching things on and off. search for " ADJ PC-100A " . its just a rackmount power strip, but its way cooler to have em rackmount compared to loose strips. It took me a bit to find it, but hopefully you can find one that takes those plugs from across the pond...
luv ur channel, Ur setup looks nice !!! very nice
I have rackmount power strips, they take up more rack space than they seem, as they are generally very shallow and also adaptors go upwards or downwards, so eat into the space above or below. If well planned or if you have the rackspace then it's not an issue, but something to bear in mind when purchasing rackmount power strips.
gotta love that lewitt merch 😊
I was wondering about using 80/20 for just such a build. Very cool.
It would be really exciting to see a video from you about the power consumption of all the studio devices. An exciting factor that you could look at more closely in comparison to VSTs.
Full studio is around 750 Watt
I just started purchasing hardware this year& I fell in love ,I’m buying alot more ,I debating on my next purchase
Wow it looks so nice now! great job. I'd recommend some wood oil & wax for your desk and racks to seal them and give them a finished look without having to completely dismantle and remove everything again! You can just tape off the gear and wipe it on the wood with a cloth! Once it's dry it'll make the grain pop, and give a finished semi gloss look!
Its covered in epoxy
Always save your head-eggs!
These are my favorite type of video's of yours. Love studio maintenance and gear maintenance. Have you ever thought of staining the wooden desk? giving it a nice wood stain could make it look a little more integrated i think.
Also, how do you find using a single screen? I've always worked with two but i have found lately that the second monitor has become my procrastination monitor.
Congratz with the 150k subs.. amazing - and well deserved! now.. tell me if i should buy the API 2500+.. :D
I'm a lover of analog too, but this is a prime example of why so many are just going soley ITB with great monitors, treatment, and converters.
Have the same issue w my desk it’s so frustrating
dank voor de leerzame video!
I also updated my gear, went from a 3800x to a 12 core 5900x and i can say it’s a beast in cubase. Next upgrade will be an RME babyface
Got me one of those 5900Xs too, I agree...big improvement over 3700X I had before.
Velcro tape is one of the best inventions of mankind.
You are crazy and i love it.
Weldon...am a huge fan of how organized you are!!! What time did you start each day and what's your typical start and end time of each work day?
I start at around 09 and end at around 18 every day
As an non Patreon/Pay to say Supporter..... Ill aways remember you drawing Diagrams , talking analog synths, (106 from memory) , and to see you evolve..... Awesome...
Im writing a song for you... Its called "Greatroot" by "Blandform"
Workin
WIP. Cool saddle stool, just what I am looking for! can you hook me up with where I can purchase one please...thanks!
Your setup is great... nothing like a custom desk - but where is your arm rest? You must have permanent creases between your wrists and elbows! 😁
Pretty wild custom monitors you have there. have you ever done a video on those?
let's get startethhhh
I would have an absolute fieldday automating your studio with Home Assistant /HomeKit
I have a few plans for that already, would love to talk with you about that 😊
Good progress! It’s never ever really “done”, is it? How’s the noise from the fans in the JH-24? I had a JH-16 many moons ago, I’m assuming the fans are similar…not super quiet. Maybe it’s a non issue if you’re just bouncing through it.
Anyways, the new studio is looking awesome…good enough to make the perfect the mix of Sandstorm!
Is there a video where you talk about the sound foam on the back of your computer screen? I too have an ultrawide monitor and wonder if trying some foam on the back would help with reflections because my setup is so close to the wall.
No video about it, it makes a small difference, but I'm doing as much as I can :-)
@Whiteseastudio.
Hey man, trying to get into analog gear and was wondering how live vocal effect pedals with compression and reverb compare to an effects rack. If you could do a video comparing stage effects hardware (like the boss ve 500 for example) to some rack mounted setups i would be more than interested in learning from it.
Do you get much use out of the ART compressor?
You must do having it in the main desk rack
Big important super question. And hello. As soon that I open your video I saw the speakers in the back. What are those speakers with multiple 4 in woofers. what brand are those?
I can't even watch this because i have alot of studio transition pains right now aswell. Good god the things i have to do 🤦♂
I would love the blueprints for that desk! Is there any documentation on it?
I don’t have it, but I could ask
@@Whiteseastudio Would be insane it's a really dope design light but sturdy love it.
Obligatory IKEA control room rug ✅
ah, that monitor stand is sweet, can I ask, which model it is? thank you! :)
Min 12:30 Dope music ;)
did you replace the tubes in your VLA?
Interesting the desk is mostly built with t-slot aluminium profile, I'm going to build my own desk because no money & didn't think to use that as a foundation it makes sense & then finish with wood.
It's also easy with measurements. The T-Slot profiles need exactly 50cm in-between to fit 19" rackmount equipment.
Love your stuff❤
Listen, when you cut by hand, could you tape in the gear a bit with masking-plastic as if you were to paint in the room? This is because one wants not to have any dust flying into the gear. If it's taped (outside the gear, but sealing the gear), it shall not come any dust there.
Where did you find those small blank rack panels on your console?! They look like 1/2U or 1/4U blank panels...not a full 1U rack?! Need something like that!!
They are 1/3 I think... Got them from Thomann
Mooi wark, one sok off man.. zo bekend! Haha
Oscillating saw!? U need one!
Hey Mr Genius (nog de beste wensen b.t.w.) I hope the trouble with your neighbour is fixed by now. I know so well how this kind of shit messes up your life. Question : I'm trying to mix music in my home studio now for several years and when I compare my mixes with proffesional mixes my mixes are always less "big". On my masterbuss I put an SSL compressor and a Limiter but still I miss that "body". Lately I put an MV2 on the masterbus and then I get closer to what I want to hear but in all the youtube tutorials that I watched I've never saw anyone go for this solution. Is an MV2 on the masterbus a bad idea? (I mix in the box) Thanks for all your videos they are great. Greetings
I think its good to remember that if it sounds good, its good lol. One thing to look out is that the MV2 applies dither (according to the marketing blurb). But I would also look into adding some sort of mix buss eq. A lot of engineers have a pultec or equivalent plugin/hardware on their masterbus which might be what youre hearing. If you have Noiseashe ruletec, I have had a great experience with those, otherwise try experimenting with Analog Obsession's EQ's. Or maybe even experiment with your own favorite EQs!
also, just because it's not on youtube or a forum doesn't mean you shouldn't go for it! Finding little hacks that no one else is using is a great way to develop YOUR sound. just a thought :)
Why not use velcro for the cabling? Zip ties are so annoying becaus you can only use them one time and you need a cutter to take them off.
yea the Velcro cable ties are Godly ! Can't live without them
How's that velcro holding on? All my RME interfaces get pretty toasty, I'm not sure the glue will hold up well.
how do you control your monitoring level with the rme ?
just totalmix or are you using an external monitor controller ?
External monitor controller, it's part of Quasar
👍🙂
how do you handle dust on your desk and gear? i have a significantly more modest setup and wiping it off seems to be taking way too much time lol
I use the swiffer duster
@@Whiteseastudio cheers
Out of curiosity: How big is your room? What are the measurements?
I have just one question, what is your need to paint your nails? does it have any functionality or is it just to show you're deconstructed?
Do you used the art for vocal tracking ?
No
Do you still use the ART VLA compressor?
Yes
not the glamorous work, but the necessary work.
I'm happy i'm too poor to work out the box!
I don't like the rug! But wow, you have really gone a very long way from where you were when you started! Studio looks very pretty. Now all you need to do is change the rug.
