thanks for the tour, really appreciate what you do. i really enjoy how you explain everything because for me it helps beyond my comprehension. please continue making videos, i cant come to fully explain how much it helps.
Very cool to see how your gear and setup has grown and developed over time, your methodical approach and seeking what your preferences are in uncompromising ways . This should be inspiring for everyone... You have implemented your strategy effectively and I am very happy to see it and for every success to come your way as a result of your hard work and gifts. You studio is like a little machine, I dig it :) cheers !!
Brilliant. Loved seeing round the studio. I also like how (just like me) it's the small things like your patch cable holder that you really get a kick out of. I've just ordered 10 mop and broom holder brackets to make some mic stand holders out of. Can't wait to build them! Haha
Hey I will use the opportunity of being somewhat early on a new video of yours to thank you so much for all the great and inspiring content you have been putting out. I have learned so much from your videos and have been binging a lot of your old ones after discovering this channel. Keep up the good work :)
love the music in the b-rolls. great video already
1:01 Doug DeMuro has entered the chat
YEAH...thought the same thing :D
Damn, you beat me to it! :D
Thanks so much for the tour, Wytse! I've really enjoyed following your progress, reviews, and content. Cheers from South Wales, NY USA. - chaz
You made yourself a really nice workplace. Very enjoyable tour.
"show you all the quirks and features of my studio"
*doug demuro intensifies*
For those interested in the bass absorbers: www.gearslutz.com/board/bass-traps-acoustic-panels-foam-etc/743040-tims-limp-mass-bass-absorbers.html
Man, you inspire me to work more with music! Thank you for that
this is a nice studio man feels really unique to you and everything has its place
I really love you're videos man. Just found you last week
Where is the lava lamp, bloody amateur!
Hey, at least he's got the methadone bottle (19:22) to keep clients well when they are sweating and puking. XD He didn't show us his mirror though :( Bwoahahaha!
He has hue lamps ... thats cool. Have to see if I set up HUE lamps too ;)
Sweet, sweet studio!
You are awesomeness itself! Good show!
This is coming from someone new to hardware. Was wondering if you would ever make a video showing how to properly set up outboard gear.
Loved the intro!!
Thanks to your video from before- I'm going after the Tegeler reverb... Mannnn stellar
👍🏻
I just got my new 16 core Mac Pro .Expensive yes but even more amazingly powerful and the build quality has to be seen to be believed.Best Mac I have ever owned and I had a few.:-)
Bravo master!!!
Killer setup!
An audio god. Fantastic stuff
Can you do a video explaining how you converted and rack mounted those eq modules from your old console build?
Prachtige Studio Wytse👊👍😎
Hi, just curious: which issues did you have with ScreenFlow when using 64 channels (I assume you just disabled all but the ones required)? Thanks!
Great stuff
Very nice tour. Of course I favor the 24 and 2 channel reel to reel tape machines, but it was interesting to see all of your "stuff" and that your interest actually includes building the equipment that creates the final product. I don't think actually building equipment is too common, but it is a special and worthy attribute in my way of seeing things.
Much thanks for your videos
I love it when it " just works"
Hey there! Thanks for the tour! Just wondering if you can tell me what the patch bay type is. I remember you mentioning it in another video with its rather unique connectors but I can't find that video. I'm looking to add more patching to my studio and am looking for alternatives to TT/Bantam.
i have a mid 2010 mac pro with 24gig of RAM. i just switched over to a new maxed out mac mini with the i7 and 64gig of RAM and a sonnet PCIe/thunderbolt echo for my UAD card and i couldn't be happier. everything just works. i did upgrade my lynx aurora 8 from firewire (400) to thunderbolt 3 which is also a nice update. but yeah the mac mini seems to be just fine, using PT and the usual mess of plugins and working at 96khz. so i don't know, "it works for me" is not anything, but the mac mini does seem fine.
I have a question for you. With people like Andrew Scheps going entirely ITB for mixing, does that ever make you question if your own equipment choices are absolutely necessary? Or do you choose to use the equipment you have just because you really enjoy the equipment itself? (I’m asking about things that could be replaced ITB, not really things like the Sony 24 track tape machine which is just miles beyond the tape emulations today)
I also run a Crown CTs for my mains. I solved the noise issue by changing the fans to Noctuas and adding a on/off toggle switch to the front panel. When critical listening is happening, just kill the fans then flip 'em back on afterwards. It's honestly a life saver. :)
Really cool thanks for sharing, :)
0:58 I was not ready for that lol....You could have started with THISSSSSSSSS is my studio, and I am gonna give you a thorough tour of it lmao.....but anyways, good work
love the video, so what is your hourly rates for recording?
I got Neumann KH310 Speakers as mains, but getting a single ("mono") Avantone Mix Cube really helped in getting a balanced mix faster. Highly recommend those little speakers, be it one or two.
Nice studio tour! However I wonder why you choose Motu converters over the others?
All I can say is that I just Blew my Load looking at your studio...
WOW.. I have 1/100th of what you have.....
quirks and features. yes!
I’m thinking of getting myself some avantone mixcubes, but i keep seeing some studios using only 1 mixcube while some other studios (including yours) using 2 mixcubes. Now i wanna ask is it better (or essential) to use a pair of them or is using one enough? Also, is it better to check your mix in mono with a single speaker? if so, wouldnt it better to use just only one mixcube? Awesome studio by the way and love your vids!
Hey man. Just wondering what you're using in conjunction with the 8a for 64 I/O channels. I have a console I want to integrate into my studio but I need to expand my I/O capacity.
I have been specifying Powersoft amplifiers since they became available in Australia a number of years ago - they are great! And quiet. I also love the Extreme switches, and agree with the comment below - leave it turned on. The first time I specified them, the Integrator was not happy as he knew how to program the Dell switches. Extreme taught him what to do and he has used them since then.
I just upgraded my converters to the Motu 828ES pretty much the same guts found in the 16A. Did you notice a step up in sound quality from your Apogee Rosetta such as depth or stereo imaging?
GOLY, and Gustav the creator, is amazing. I have used his Porter Grinder EQ and besides the Knif Soma it's my de-facto favorite EQ of all time.
YESS
For what do you use the SPX90 for? Is it the famous symphonic effect or there are other good patches on it? I'm always wondering if I should buy one! Great studio, you have some profound knowledge on gear, that's awesome!
This is dope to see what you're working with for you mixes etc. Can we see the actual room in one shot next time? More about the actual shape and size. You touched on the room being special but we never actually saw the the room. Nice one
Great video as usual! You should keep both of the XPS 90s. I'm not sure but I think some ICs being used in these units are not being made anymore and very difficult to find.
I had the same Acer some years ago until it blew :D Now I have a new old Acer :D
Maybe its old fashion, but I'm really interested in a hybrid recording process where you track to reel tape and then record that digitally. Then mix in the box and then back to tape for mastering and of course everything ends up digital once again for distribution. Do you see that as a feasible way to work? ...or is there such low benefit that the effort isnt worth the gain?
Eric Valentine, Shawn Everett just to name some random guys that still do that ! ;) Shawn especially has a really creative approach to it, you should watch his "mix with the master" video, if you've got access to that... If you don't you can still find some interesting interviews .
@@blondissalvation That's really good info. I'll check it out
Thanks!
@@IPushHard You're welcome !
I’m very curious about the diy pultec ? I would love to make one myself
Great tour of a beutifull studio. Would love to see a video going thru the sugnal flow , digital and analog
I know it's already been mentioned a few times on here, but a Hackintosh is perfect for a DIY guy such as yourself. I've been running them in my studio since 2009. I've also made a GSSL and pultec clones, I've made my own bass traps, I've spent hundreds of hours reworking my MCI 500 console etc etc... you and I like doing the same kinds of things... so you gotta trust me on this, hahaha :)
Your desk looks very clean and tidy! I’ve always got a lot of paperwork and clutter on my desk, even on the floor. Isn’t building a custom PC from off the shelf parts a viable option for you? You get great value and you can tinker with it to your heart’s content. I reuse a lot of components where possible, the case is from 2004 originally for a pentium 4 and I upgraded the motherboard and disks 2 times and is now a core i5-9600k. I’ve also got two internal blue ray drives. The ceiling of the rooms sounds like it’s a drop ceiling, the size of the cavity controls to a certain degree which frequencies it will block. With the walls mass is really important, like concrete or blockwork but with a poreus surface to absorb noise. Building accoustics is sadly an underrated subject in the building industry. It’s easy to screw it up and hard to get right.
>"I spend most of my time sitting behind the desk"
>Literally sitting behind the desk
Will we ever see all the cut-out scenes or a directors cut? Studio looks fine!
You gotta get an ultrawide monitor. I can tell you from experience it is an absolute godsend for audio work.
let me makes a hackintosh for you with a thunderbolt 3 and USB type -C 😉
I came soooo close to building a Hackintosh. I ended up buying a used 2016 MacBook Pro that did everything I needed.
Cool video as always, nice explanations and of course, you got very nice stuff. :-)
What about your monitor speakers?
Prototypes, cant talk about it
can you someday compare one of your mixes from your analog console to a mix from a digital console. i have always wanted to hear the difference greeting from Minnesota U.S.A.
Sorry for the sort of unrelated and probably stupid question, but what is such a building with multiple studios/practice spaces (I've seen vlogs and music equipment demo advertising videos filmed in rooms that look like they were meant to be a practice space for bands) called?
what was the first console you pulled the eq's from?
Hi, Could you give more inside on powering your studio? How it is done, what is happening when power lines from the city reaches studio building?
Currently I'm moving to a new studio where electricity is "poluted" because of big factories nearby, I need solution for clean power.
Thanks!
i know its an old video...but may i ask why are you using 192khz?
Would you recommend the hardware Shadow Hill compressor?
Are you selling the eq you made and are not using ! Would love to hear it. .
Thnx for the video always waiting for them
hey @whiteseastudio , I added Tbolt3 to my Mac Pro 5,1 a while back. its totally possibly, not for the faint of heart, but possible. they're SO CLOSE to having it be super easy to add with out any wrangling. you can actually buy the cards ready to go in and work
Hiya White Sea. I'm working in the same field as you and recently my main 2012 Mac Pro died completely and I was disappointed that there wasn't a similar reasonable replacement model available. After puzzling it through I've ended up using an iMac and getting Thunderbolt boxes for the hardware AES cards I used to have in the Mac Pro. It's all working better than ever. Quieter too. I'm suggesting its worth you considering iMac plus peripherals. It could work for you too.
What material did you use for the limp mass in the Bass Traps?
Also I have to say that you have a really awesome studio! Thank you for showing us
rubber!
Nice
Have you demod the Art Pro VLA II??
I'm trying to find out what patch bay exactly that is. Help a brother out!
Do you always work at 192k when it's your choice?
Great museum
Maybe it's time for a Hackintosh.
Rick Beato has an older video that greatly explains the basics of Hackintosh in his Studio context! "How To Beat Apple At Their Own Game"
Do you turn off all equipment, or some, when you are not at the studio and turn it when you return?
I turn everything off
Lots of reflective surfaces?
Where did you get get your racks from ? I've run out of rack space and I'm looking for slanted racks like the one's in your studio
Thomann
That's why I've always built pc towers for DAW and Video work. The customization/price point return on value just destroys Apple , and I've never had a problem in my DAW that can be attributed to Windows OS, so it all... Just Works.
Why don't you leave your switch turned on 24/7? Those are not really meant to be off, they're deployed in always on environments
Is it going to be a Tube Tech CL1-B?
It is truly uplifting to see an environment that contains too many buttons and switches to count.
Nice wallpapers
Cool! But what did you do with your Elysia Karacter?
its still in the rack
first of all i like your way of handling gear, you seem to be an incarnation guardian for studio equipment. what always excites me is how you integrate your humanity into this dry matter. By the way my question, what kind of coffee do you drink and are you also oldscool there?
Its made with fresh coffee beans, but done with an automatic machine...
From my point of view it seems like a super expensive setup & these days studio audio has been made super simple going digital & you have all the plug-ins that emulate analog audio I switched over years ago & have saved me so much money. I feel the biggest investment these days is plug-ins. All in all Nice set up.
nice one
nice
Power amp for Avantone?
Very cool setup!
your advice is some of the only I trust. I dream of someday having a quarter of the analogue gear you have. I did keep my Vastex PMC 03 proffesional scratch mixer, and VCA, has effects sends, and is known as a mixer (even amongst djs) for giving a very very flat sound. (one of the reasons IMO that is the go to Mixer for the Technics DMC competitions yearly) I remember when I saw my mixer in Rick Rubins studio and I got excited. I mean im runnin just a Tr8, Minilogue, two pcs with ableton 10 suite, Audio technica Mh40x (surprisingly decent headphones). m I have put kids through college with plugg ins. I kinda figured thats where tech was going, and to some defense there are plugg ins that really do add really amazing effects SOME
you have a DREAM Studio. I love vintage gear aswell, 1176s, Valley people Dynamites *(the original) , shoot I used to use My sp505 as a Microphone preamp because it had all 16 Roland effects.
It used to be about how one got the sound there, as clean as possible /Or slightly driven (in rock distorted, but not CLIPPED) most music today I can tell half of the Transients are flattopped. rrrr
another guy you might find kind of interesting to listen to, kind of in the same resonance as the guy who creates the AIRwindows THANKYOU SOOOOOO MUCH TODAY. Sorry to hear about Goerge (sp?) My grandfather who was a famous bassist, and is why I do what i do passed this year aswell. 2019 was for BITCHES! I pray many ah Blessings to you and your studio from a REAL RASTA with locks pon mi shins
how does one just build an eq box
That’s so weird I had a recommendation of your tour from a year ago and watched it, now you just uploaded a 2020 version wtf
Very good, but how do will recall these 32 EQs?
I know you have a 2 year old video on your console, have any of the modules been updated since? Maybe once you get your new monitoring solution hooked up do a new tour of just your console and how you like to use it.
Dude, after they changed to the new MacOS, I had a good think and I bit the bullet and got a PC. I never thought I would switch as I have used the Mac for so long. But I could get everything I needed with a own build. AMD Threadripper with 64 GB and raided 1 TB SSD and a VERY large backup... I checked the price for something similar on a Mac Pro. It was 21k. My new setup? 2.5k. Windows is pretty damn stable nowadays and everything just works. Im sorry Mac, you lost me because you dont care anymore but hey, my laptop is still mac and I have iPad and iPhone. Im not crazy....
Apple still cares... they just don't care about YOU. :). They only care about phones now. When Jobs died, it was the beginning of the modern era of Apple turning into a phone company that also sells computers. They've lost a lot of the education market for the same reason - they have no inexpensive competitive products. 6 months ago I had to buy a laptop for doing live gigs, home recording, and video editing for the channel I was starting. I considered Windows but I'm a hardcore Logic Pro X/Final Cut Pro user. For me, it's the best. I ended up buying a used MacBook Pro from 2016. I'll give them this - old Macs don't die too often. But I would seriously consider a Windows laptop, or at least a Hackintosh. If all I ran was Ableton Live and Pro Tools, I'd go Windows.
@@budgetguitaristcom I agree with you. The main reason for me was that all my old 32 bit music plugins were now gone. But since I used Studio One instead of Logic, The jump was not hard for me at all.
Why are there so many studios in one building ? just curious ..
I would like to hear your mixes and masters, do yo have a link to them?
his studio website?
10 people are jealous.... me too but I do thumbs up! Thanks for sharing Wytse!
