This is the best video I have seen on down imaging. I am new to using a sonar and I needed this video to give me an understanding of what to look for when using down imaging.
Good informative video, Chris. I have an inexpensive little down imaging Lowrance unit on my trolling motor, and this video does help explain what some of the images I've been seeing on my unit, really are. Hopefully, one day soon, I'll be able to afford a larger, nicer upgrade, to the small, 2-D unit I have at my console, and it'll have side imaging as well as down imaging and 2-D sonar.
Great info, I’ll take all the sonar information you can do. Are you going to cover side scan next?? That’s where I could use the most help understanding what I’m seeing on the screen. Thanks Chris!!!
I have the 3-1 transducer on my Lowrance Elite FS. I do not have the side image module that goes on the trolling motor. I am guessing that I still should be able to use the down imaging, correct??
Good video Chris, thanks for all you do!! What do you think about doing a video on card options and functions of different cards you can get to show bottom contrasts, ledges in So on of mapped bodies of water ????
Thanks buddy very informative.. My question is. When you pull up to a new body of water or a body of water you haven’t fished in sometime. What are some of the first things your looking for to find fish during winter, summer, spring, fall. Thanks keep up with the videos bud.
Great question Austin Sims and one of the first things I do is try and figure out what I think the fish are doing for the time of year it is. Then start breaking down deep water shallow flats, low current, high current and other things like that. But we have to remember this is just a starting point.
Can you show us "how to fish it?" Once I see something on my unit I don't know how to fish that spot. I already passed it or don't know exactly where that was, (i.e. side of the boat, left, right, back, etc). Thanks for all the instructional videos!
Thanks so much Chris, very informational, love these sonar videos, looking forward to a side imaging one !!! Also what’s your thoughts about that Cabelas PFD your wearing ?
Another great video Chris. When you do the side imaging video let me/us know if you would, when you stop the sonar to zoom in on a piece of structure can you mark its location to fish it later even though you've likely drifted away from it? Or do you have to circle back to the structure to mark it's location? Thanks.
@@slungercatoutdoors From the back of the boat to the end of the screen going outwards and not downwards. I've tried to look all over, but I'm not finding anything.

Your welcome Mike and thanks for watching
@@slungercatoutdoors you're welcome my friend 👍 I will keep watching 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Great video Chris! I like the fact that you stopped & zoomed in. This will be a huge help for me on the water. See ya at Wheeler!!!
Glad you liked that little touch thank you. And thank you for watching

Thanks for the information it works on lowrance 7 inch screen triple shot. Thanks again 👍
Do you have Fish Reveal? I would love to see a video on what we are looking at on it, etc.
Good tips my question is do you catch more fish on down or side imaging ?
Chris you did it again bud!! Great video keep em coming! God bless!!!

Your very welcome and I’m planning on trying to get those fired back up for you all!!
Great job Again Chris
Thanks Mike
Nice video!
I use the downscan a lot. It eleminates a lot of the guessing on the regular 2D. 😎
Thank you it definitely does! Thanks for watching
Good information video Thanks alot buddy.

I would think so but not 100% sure
I have a triple shot lowrance 7 inch. What color is the catfish look like. Thanks fer great videos & information 👍💯💯💯💯💯
Hi Chris, can you tell the color of the bottom..what is muddy color like, and sand color on the lowrance
Yes and that would make an amazing video. So thank You
When you find good structure how do you know where to cast is it right under the boat or how does that work. Just got a down scan depth finder.
I throw out a float right when I see the structure and use that to orient where it is.
Depends on where your transducer is front or back of boat and sonar usually goes out about 30 in a cone shape from what i have been told
Hi,
What transducer you have?
Just found your channel. Great video !!!
That’s great to hear hope you enjoy the channel! Thanks for watching
Chris, you did not mark that wood?
Yeah actually already had it marked
Good video Chris, thanks for all you do!!

Great. Video. Is. A. Tripple. Shot. Lowrance. Deph. Finder. Good. Or. What. U. Suggest. For. Me. First. Time. Thanks
Hey Mike it really depends on what you budget is. But Lowrance makes a lot of great units. There Ti series is good as well. Thanks for watching
@@slungercatoutdoors thank u Chris souders. I. Will. Get a 9 inch tripple shot. 👍
Would any of these tips work for garmin
No these tips can be applied to just about any sonar that has down scan. they may just need to be tweaked for each brand.
I have HDS9 gen 3 w 3-1 transducer. Do u need the module as well for 3d sonar?

Absolutely that will be part of the chart/mapping video. Thanks for watching
Excellent video sir thank you
Thanks so much Chris, very informational, love these sonar videos, looking forward to a side imaging one !!! Also what’s your thoughts about that Cabelas PFD your wearing ?
Thanks Skip, I really like it very light and comfortable.

Thank you and great question. You can definitely mark it for later and I will absolutely go in to my detail for you all on that.
Stated "for the depths I fish I use 455'.
Would that be 10ft, 40,50... 70?
Yeah sorry about that. I normally don’t fish anything over 100ft and that setting works best for that. Thanks for watching
do a video on anchoring!
Are you fishing that little tournament in marietta may 18th or just speaking?
I was just there to speak. Wish I would have had time to fish tho
Thanks buddy!
Your welcome and thank you for watching
So the down imaging is actually a combination of 2d and 3d.
Chris, please check out the fish reveal update... and record your first impressions.
I think this would make a great video!!!! I'll do it
Thanks
Your welcome thanks for watching
Didn't you see that 67.3 lb Flatty with the turtle bite right behind the dorsal fin??
No I didn't see that one.
How far is it from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen when you are using down imaging?
That’s a good question and to be honest I’m not 100% sure. Are you wondering what the length of bottom your seeing on the screen?
@@slungercatoutdoors From the back of the boat to the end of the screen going outwards and not downwards. I've tried to look all over, but I'm not finding anything.
Read Buck Perry’s book to learn the difference between structure and cover.
I’ll definitely take a look at it thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
